This song is, no joke, a shining beacon of what you can accomplish in hip hop. It's a damn shame more artists aren't striving to reach these kinds of lyrical heights.

Francisco Gomez I hate when people micro manage other people's comma usage. I understood the dramatic pauses he was intending to create and it made sense. Can we just let people write creatively? You sound like my English teacher I hate that bitch.

I read this article too. People tend to either listen to what's popular or looks good. I'm sure more 'listeners' will buy 50 Cent records rather Aesop Rock. That's the world we live in. People judge you on appearances. So just because someone wears a cap and trainers doesn't make them a 'petit gangster'.

On the album proper, this is combined with Coffee into one track with a 30 second break between the two songs, and it says Feat. John Darnielle on the back, so I've since taken that as a pretty good indicator that it's his lol.

Locusts stole the groceries out the local Farmer's Market
    All God's critters hold positions
Some are violent, some are victims
Each alive is an equal and vital piston I support
So when the piranhas honor New York
My daddy long legs dangled and mangled for sport
And while I bring in every dink in the kingdom with open wings
It all boils down to them shit-soaked pigs
The pigs (what), the pigs (what), the dregs of what y'all aim for
The gluttonous muddy stomachs under the pudgy cakehole
Two-track braniac using the food and payroll
To chew up and consume every cookie, crumb, and peso
And place a cloven hoof on the lucrative when convenient
As the bourbon-odor smokers' coughs smolder off the Cohiba
If Noah had the benefit of hindsight on his ship
He could've snatched two unicorns and left behind the motherfucking...

      My friend,
I find myself very curious as to what you are listening to these days now that you are grown.
I, too, was a young prodigy in my choice of playlists, yet it took me years to grow and ears to grow before I would genuinely appreciate the exceptional aesthetic I had adopted early on was so profoundly more than the mystique I had been attempting to render with accuracy.
I wonder sometimes, if we all might not have myriad 'playlists' (this obviously would include titles on a prominent bookshelf, a curated list of painters, poets, films, et al..)
that we whip out for this or that group of people or circumstance, and if I'm honest, I admit, at age fifty, that only my closest people will ever know my truths (As an example, on the film list, 'Bring It On', the cheerleading flick, will always beat out 'Cannery Row')

As I always say, I don't blame people in power for turning into power-hungry sociopaths. I blame the disgusting system. People in power are often groomed for their positions. By the time they reach power, they're very unlikely to speak out against the status quo, although they know there's nothing good about it. The system needs to change. People are people, and won't ever change.

Somewhat surprised at the lack of Animal Farm references in this, since Aes is clearly no stranger to George Orwell - since he's referenced Orwell and 1984 numerously.
    Notable examples include Freeze...
*"Whilst Biggest Brother's watching Bigger Brother watching Big Brother watch you"*
    Boombox...
*"We could run that Orwell's '84 war for the room 101 detour"*
...and the whole excerpt quoted in One Brick:
*"Platforms have been erected, effigies built, slogans coined, songs have been written, rumors have been circulated, autographs faked..."*
So yeah, the lack of references to Animal Farm - in which the farm is politically taken over and ruled by *pigs*, no less - is fairly surprising. Missed a golden opportunity, I think.
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"
