I agree with Jeff about ”reducing the friction” to make iPadOS more on par with macOS without necessarily having to put macOS on iPads. At the very least, I think improving file management as well as window management (Stage Manager isn’t there yet) would go a long ways. Improving other apps such as video processing could better utilize the hardware as well.
Improved file management, improved mouse control, and improved multitasking when ipad connected to external monitors.
"we did go off on a little tangent there.... as we tend to do" haha made me think of "as is tradition". thanks for the great pod guys at keep it up! i watch all your vids and eager for the Let Loose event!
Thanks @dman7895 for putting up with our tangents :)
Nice video guys
iPad Pro just needs dual boot with perhaps the Magic Keyboard. That sorts out all the problems. Like your videos by the way.
Totally agree with user profiles on iPads. This should tie into family plan so user info doesn’t get mixed up with each other. That should be across all products in my mind. My HomePod stereo pair connection issues all disappeared when I got the priciest appletv 4K. And I’m using the original HomePod. Not the newest version.
I only have an iPad, not a Mac. Can you work the full Final Cut Pro on the iPad via sidecar?
🎯My top wanted iPad features:
1. Magsafe charging ⚡
2. Custom Action button (like in the iPhone Pro) 🔘
3. Two external displays support 🖥️🖥️
4. Built in microSD reader💾
5. Function keys row on the Magic keyboard ⌨️
6. Calculator app ;) 🧮
7. Two usb-c ports 🔌
8. Minimum 128GB in the base version 💾
9. Water-resistant 💦
10. Extra battery power in the Magic Keyboard 🔋
Hit like and comment if you agree or disagree with any of these propositions
I wish there were more pushback from Fernando side of the conversation... him being more into the iPad versus Jeff on the Mac side, I'd like to see a more difference in opinions. Given that Fernando prefers to use the iPad for video production... yet Jeff is not into the iPad for it.
We all know that macOS is a better platform than iPadOS... but why does Fernando choose Mac over the iPad? Wish that was established more...
The Rabbit makes for a good safe affordable fun thing for children to use … adults not so much
Siri reminds me of Apple Maps. Some people were dissing it long after it was really good. When was the last time you tried Siri? I’m not sure when it happened but she’s gotten really good with “on device” task. I can ask her to give me the latest emails from “Pat Mason” or create a route from here to DC or show me the messages Tony. She’s good giving quick trivia type questions like who won the 54 World Series? It’s not that Apple poaches product ideas from other companies. What generally happens is Apple’s patent filings motivate OTHER companies to also pursue the same technology. Apple will be last to bring out a product or feature they were the first to start working on. Apple filed the patent for Vision Pro almost 10 years ago. Anyone who believes Apple jumped on Meta’s bandwagon is a moron.
Benjamen: I agree, the Apple pods can be unreliable. Seems like an incomplete sound solution for TV. I have never been impressed by the sound from the Sonos speakers - ever. One line of Speakers that have served me well for TV and network speakers and on the go speakers, has been Bose. The speakers sound great and perform consistently in all settings. While I like matchy matchy gear integration, Bose coupled with Apple really does it for me in sound hardware.
iPad problems only exist for people who think their iPads should be on par with MacOS, which is a strange take.
The iPad Pro will NEVER be on par with a Macbook Pro. It only competes with the Macbook Air, and yet the people who are clamoring for iPadOS to do more aren’t Macbook Air users; they’re MBP users. In other words, they’re asking for a product that they wouldn’t even use.
A big blindspot the tech community has is it is constantly thinking devices should be replaceable. “Can this AI device replace your phone? Can your iPad replace your Macbook? Can this Macbook Air replace your Macbook Pro? Can Apple Vision Pro be your only device?” and these are just the wrong questions to ask. Technology is not a zero sum game no matter how much UA-camrs want some sort of mythical all-in-one device.
Fully agree
I think you’re forgetting something. Apple _itself_ set this expectation, not us. There are numerous examples of that as well. Not to mention that a fully decked out iPad costs significantly more than a MacBook. I’m not trying to convince you to agree, as that is pointless on the internet, but it’s my take. -Jeff
