@@Somethin5041 Exactly.
My comment is gone?
Radical's ending dialog is something that I share a lot of sentiments with. Pretty much everything he says is spot on. Even as someone who really loves pokemon, the games have become indefensible unless you act delusional.
@Gabriel Mota That's hardly a hot take cause you're absolutely right. Most if not all the people who express their critique are those who have played most/all of the games and been a fan for the longest.
And I would argue that most of the apologists started at gen 6 and 7 and thus they think SwSd is not that bad cause their standards for a good Pokemon game are extremely low. This is of course just an assumption but I find it hard to believe that people who played through the masterpieces that are the gen 3-5 games back in the day could seriously claim that SwSd are anywhere even close to as good. Not only are gen 8 games terrible Pokemon games, they're just straight up bad video games. And that's a fact.
It really pisses me off when I see the apologists painting people who express critique as nothing more than "haters" and then proceed to declare themselves as "true fans". It's literally the opposite, we hate the games cause we love Pokemon. And those who think the games are good like this have no standards whatsoever.
@@yiangaruga4928 yeah I was fine with this game until I started playing Gen 5 again. My thing is that I’m Gen 5 which I think was one o the best games EVERY SINGLE POKÉMON was animated. I’m also pretty sure 2D pixel animation is harder then 3D animation yet they still did it y’know? The difficulty was also great, it was VERY challenging as the whole game your around the same level as your rival and other trainers. Then they went 3D and it all went down the shitter.
You know, it might be fun drunk... or like 06, where you're there to make fun of it.
I just either turn off my brain when playing, it makes it decently enjoyable.
@Gabriel Mota depends on who you call an apologist. There is a difference between people who like a game and people who are an apologist who defend literally everything they do.
I need to make this clear because for some reason pokemon fans have basically considered these two groups one in the same
"If you like Pokemon games you'll like this."
I liked Sun and Moon more than this. And I *hated* Sun and Moon.

Sword and Shield have sold over 19 million copies as of today, making them the highest selling games in the mainline series since Gold and Silver released in 2000. With the worst production on any Pokémon game to date.

@@sechabatheletsane9784 Sinnoh remakes? Oh god please no.. Platinum is my favourite Pokemon game but I literally don't want them to remake them cause I know they'll find a way to ruin even them.
I bet they'll add dynamaxing in it, remove explorer kit, nerf all opponents including Cynthia, remove battle frontier and resort island...
Seriously, this is their one chance to make new great 3D models for the pokemon. They can just include only the pokemon from 1-4 gen and focus on making new models for *those* so that they can make the rest on gen 9. And yet I'm like 99% sure that's exactly what they *won't* do. They'll probably just copy paste everything and we'll see Barry having the same animations Hau and Hop had... Ugh just thinking about all this makes my head ache lmao

On one hand, I love platinum and I'd love to see it remade. On the other hand, I'd rather not if it's going to be anything like SwSH
If they are going to remake Sinnoh, top of my head the main thing I want them to do is to make sure they keep all the optional areas, improve some of the cave designs (I felt when replaying them that they felt repetitive despite some unique layouts) and make sure they just don't mess up the remake.

Just imagine, the sales they've made might be half deserved instead of not at all
More of both GF and the fan forget this. I mean they keep asking for Sinnoh remake even after this game being terrible and before DLC complete.
@@owo4288 ughh so many people are demanding it to release soon. Just because it’s a remake of a good game doesn’t guarantee it will be a good remake. It’s gonna be marred with all the flaws of swsh.
Majora's Mask was rushed and that was a very good game. Some people consider it the best of the franchise.
The problem is there probably forced to keep up with the anime to push out merch, they probably cannot allow the anime and games to exist at different times, if one exists the other must as well
Still sad this is the first Pokemon game I have no intention on buying or playing...
Right there with ya. Even though all my friends bought/played it and talked about it a lot when it first came out, I still stuck to my promise that I wouldn't support this game because of the way Masuda and the other higher ups handled the dex cut. That, and the general direction the series is going by treating children like absolute morons with the attention span of a gnat, so they think creating games that actually challenge you are "no longer feasible."
I bought used shield, played it and sold it.
Lets say, i tried to collect all but the problems were just everywhere.
Its too easy, lagy, playing together in a raid is a nightmare because you get errors most of the times or nobody wants to play with you.
Render distance is sh*t, story is sh*t, characters are boring or annoying, the world weather system makes little to no sense.
So yeah, you aint missing much
Unless you are a mega pokemon fan and want to keep up with VGC or something...I think you are making the right choice. Playing through SwSh is like playing through the game in an Alpha/Beta stage. Chairman Rose has got to be one of the worst villains, with the DUMBEST motivation, in all of gaming. It's one thing to blatantly rip off Sun/Moon's twist villain, it's far worse still to rip it off only to create a villain that's such a giant downgrade from the last one.
He didn't even have to be the villain. Just completely rewrite the Rose Tower take over. I think maybe we could go with the guards and Oleanna trying to keep the kids from getting hurt by refusing to let them get involved. Oleanna is... Oleanna enough to turn a "hey, this is dangerous" to a full on battle gauntlet in an attempt to maintain control of the situation while the Gym Challengers accidently make the situation worse by reading it wrong(they _are_ kids, after all.) Then for Rose we establish him finding a secret technique to conserve energy early on in game that we're made aware of, and have Eternatus break out of the egg on its own due to Rose unintentionally disturbing it with the power draining he's doing. Continue with Rose and Leon trying to clean up his unintentional mess(by making them take on the side goal of clearing out berserk Dynamax 'mons) and have Sonia search for the Doggos with Hop and Victor/Gloria stepping in when Sworward and Shielbert interfere because they don't want their ancestors' cover up story to be exposed. Then they coulda just made the DLC postgame instead of charging $30 for it.
It's not the best, but it's loads better than what we got.

Eh, it's the same reason companies like Apple get away for all of their scummy decisions: loyalty nostalgia, and money. I grew up playing all the games from Diamond onwards, even going back to play FireRed at some point. I enjoyed all of them up until Ultra Moon, which felt like it should have been $20 DLC for Moon, at a point where they had a console that could actually implement DLC. Then Let's Go Pikachu was just...boring. Nostalgia ridden and pretty, sure, but it really didn't have anything of substance. I refused to play Sword after seeing the E3 footage and seeing evidence of their lies. I was burned twice in a row with their latest games, and after briefly trying Sword from a borrowed cartridge...I'm not missing a thing. I don't even like most of the Pokemon designs this generation.

@@TheCatslock I think the difference between Pokemon and the likes of Bethesda is Nintendo. Nintendo is a fucking monster when it comes to the idea of people messing with their games. It's why so many Pokemon fan games get C&D'd if they get found out before they're released and it's why emulation is becoming more difficult to do. It's mostly Nintendo clamping down on this stuff (although I'm sure other companies have similar sentiments but would never say it) and when one of the main developer teams has a problem with innovation, it can be a very dangerous combination. I'm seeing a pattern here. Many people say how post Gen 5, Pokemon has gone off a cliff, for the most part. It is attributed to many things but I think the loss of the late, great Satoru Iwata plays a hand in this. Many of people's cherished Pokemon titles, From Ruby and Sapphire to Black and White 2, had his masterful touch. Of course, his passing was not the sole reason the franchise is tanking, there is no sole reason. But he left a void nobody has been able to fill.
i think its also due to the fact that fans HATED gen 5 when it came out, like absolutely despised it, many of the fans here who're praising it probably said they despised it then as well, so i think pokemon was like "alright, this game we put countless hours of love and care into, this game we worked so hard on perfecting.. did horribly, nobody liked it and it sold poorly, we might as well not even try with our next entry." and then they didn't try and look what happened? better sales, so i theorize gamefreak just kinda gave up at that point cuz fans hated it when they actually tried.
After this long saga, I think we can agree on one thing.
If there’s going to be a new 3D Pokémon game in the future, let the team that made Colosseum and XD gale of darkness make it. GameFreak can’t be trusted anymore
That’s up to Nintendo. The commissioner of such things since they’re the trademark holders. GameFreak does own everything else regarding Pokémon so they’ll develop as long as time exists. Of course what makes people think Genius Sorority wants to do something on that scale ever again? Maybe they’re happy and content doing the occasional mobile.
Ehhhh, the Colosseum games aren't that much better than Sword and Sield. They are slow, their stories are laughably stupid, there's like a third of the pokemon in those games, and the difficulty is all over the place. I feel like people are looking back with nostalgia googles and forgetting how flawed to shit the Colosseum games are.
@@okagron yes, Ive been seeing this everywhere and it was getting annoying, the whole colesseum comparisson started as an animation and scaling thing.. but internet people spread it as if the entire game was just a masterpiece compared to gen 8
I just discovered this channel and this series recently. I am beyond happy to see that this video was released not too long afterward!
Feel bad for the people who design the Pokémon themselves and the games their designs are in.
Let's not discount the human NPCs or the town setpieces, either. The coding holding it all together is trash, but the designs are quite good.
Yea that's the thing. Most people are complaining about the art and trashing Gamefreak, but they DON'T make the animations. It's handled by a separate division of Creatures. If the devs don't get animations to work with, they can't do much. Shame they get blamed for all of it.
It's the pokemon company, so they definitely have the funds. But I always feel bad hearing "GF doesn't deserve to make a pokemon game". Maybe, say, Monolith would scale the pokemon and get some better lighting, but if the big wigs give them limited models, they aren't making better animations than whay we got.
@@raze2012_ Eh....they kinda do make animations though atleast partly. And that's the reason they used for cutting out old Pokémon remember? It's more then just gamefreak obviously the pokemon company takes major blame. Monolith? Eh....I think they could make better animations though.
@@Jdudec367 "they" only announced the company mentality. They didn't specify who made the animations (the credits do). GF is basically handling the PR so their only admitrence here is working with the cards they got (literally). Which is quicker, but not necessarily preferred.
And given all the discourse (even from Soda himself. Even from YOU), it seems far from "obvious" to people that GF isn't the sole studio working on pokemon games. Bamco is working with the exact same models and animations in Snap 2 and are being praised for it (IMO that will blow back HARD when people realize nothing's changed except for pokemon scaling).
Don't shoot the messenger. Be specific on TPC as a whole if that's the problem. This is like hating the Lion King movie and blaming the VFX studio... The studio that was under payed, crunched, and shut down while Disney walked away with a billion dollars. Clearly these relationships aren't equal.
@@raze2012_ Eh....there is a big difference between GF and Namco as developers though. For me it was always clear that TPC carried a lot of the blame really. Honestly with Snap the animations and models seem a lot better
with sword and shield it was both crunch and laziness though really. So GF still carries at least some blame
I plan on making a parody of “Christmas Time is Killing Us” complaining about Pokémon so far. It won’t be high quality or anything since I quit making videos years ago, but if someone wants to perfect it, let me know.

The DLC says otherwise. The DLC says, "Money. Money. Money. Money."
@@ODSTD56 pretty sure the DLC was planned from the start.
Also, any one else mad at the fact that they didnt let you take your pokemon out during the main game, just the 2 dlc? Or is it just me?

Good video, liked
This game honestly depresses me when you look at how quality Odyssey and BOTW are and how the first console gen could have been like that..
I just finished Part 5 earlier. What a coinky-dink.
Nice Miraculous Ladybug reference
The ending was so true the animation is so horrendous it honestly makes me sad my last favorite Pokémon game was black and white it just really scummy how these people are making these games
That wave of nostalgia that hits me every time I hear FFX-2 music at the end

I remember when Pokémon Bank came out, and I was like "This is it. This is the downward spiral."
28:11 he actually uses an Ultra Ball in the anime to try and catch Eternatus.
I used a beast ball.... For the aesthetic.
@@smithcubs if there is one thing I agree with in this game is the 100% catch rate after a legendary boss, gets rid of soft reseting (unless you like shiny hunting) in favour of free pokeball aesthetics
Regarding the E4 fight, I think the fangame Pokemon Uranium actually handled this much more effectively. Uranium has its own issues, but what it does for the finale is what SW/SH wanted to do-- a single-elimination tournament against remixed Gym Leaders all vying to be the new Champion.
Uranium also heals you between matches, but the twist is that the matches themselves are *itemless*, and the E4 variants of the enemy teams are *brutal* (one of them is designed to be borderline impossible if you don't cheese the match). They also have the full gamut of Gym Leaders available in a randomized distribution, so you won't fight the same leaders every time you play through.
It's pretty funny to me to see the official games implementing that concept from a fangame, and I really like the idea, but, uh... wow they did it worse.
I really don’t have any motivation of finishing Sword and Shield, and I can see I’m not really missing out on the storytelling department.
Whoever thought using JPEGs to tell and not show what was clearly interesting events of the overall story, with the game not letting you participate in them, deserves to be fired.
Not only is that lazy, but it feels insulting. How does Game Freak expect me to be attached to this world’s region, characters, and all the going ons, if you’re removing any immersion where you feel you’re making an impact in the game.
If this game works for you for multiplayer and competitive experiences, that’s awesome!
But for a single player experience, it just feels bland and numb.
they dont, you see the brand, give them your 60 bucks and leave, and if you like the games for some reason or are invested in those competitive privileges they give to the people with the dlc you pay the other 30 and then leave :/

SO! About Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny and whatnot...in the anime, dopplegangers just...happen. There's like 3 or 4 identical Ashs running around, there's a whole episode devoted to Max finding a nearly identical Max and getting into an argument with him, there's a whole section on Bulbapedia for dopplegangers. Also, Jenny and Joy are last names. The Pokemon Centers and Police force in Pokemon are all controlled by a single family.
The more you know!
So there's a monopoly on all public health-care and law enforcement in the Pokemon world? No wonder there's so many criminal organizations and people challenging ten years olds to fights for money. Health care and security benefits must be practically non-exsistant.
@@lunarrobot9714 For Pokémon health-care the Joy family controls a large portion, but not for human health-care. I remember there was an episode of how Ash and his friends went to a human hospital to try to get medical help for a Pokémon, but the doctors didn't want to treat the Pokémon since they were human doctors. Most of the staff didn't look like each other from what I remember.

I love your review(s) of this game. This game really deserved an in-depth critical review because of just how much is wrong with it lol. It’s not TERRIBLE, but it’s definitely not good and GameFreak and GameFreak apologists need to understand that this is not very acceptable for a mainline Pokémon game, especially not one on a next gen console.
Damn your rant at the end really hit me hard. I agree with all of it. They're so shameless in their money grubbing endeavors. And it WORKS. It really is a shame how bad the games, and gamefreak, are now. Awful. Just awful.

Nothing but facts
I actually broke down the size of Kanto and Hoenn and compared it to Galar
Like story content and number of maps etc
Galar has 10 routes, 10 towns/cities (Spikemuth doesn't count as a town) and 2 dungeons (counting Galar Mines as one)
Kanto has 20 routes (some of them can be classed as one route), 10 towns/cities, and 10 dungeons (only one being a corridor)
Galar is smaller than Gen 1 Kanto. What an embarassment
If Smash Bros was made by Game Freak half the animations would be copy/pasted from Melee, they would cut most of the characters and tell fans to deal with it, then charge a fee for them later, and they would make exclusive amiibos that only work with Ultimate and you wouldn't be able to use your old ones.
i mean smash already does cut half the characters, this is the first game that had every character so idk what you're trying to say here lol, a shit ton of characters were missing from brawl and smash 4, also the whole "charge a fee" thing.. smash did that too, mewtwo dlc, it used to be free in the game but now you have to pay for it in smash 4.
@@IamTealeaf Bringing in a character into a new smash game involves creating entirely new models and animations for each entry in the series as well as tweaking mechanics and such each release.
Pokemon has literally been porting the exact same models and animations since X and Y and appending its move sets over time for a battle system that has been unchanged since Diamons and Pearl, making it a ludicrously tiny amount of work in comparison.
Smash's roster cuts have usually been to remove redundant or functionally similar characters, whereas pokemon did it very plainly to make people spend a monthly fee on the scam that is pokemon home.
You can bellyache all you want about having to buy returning characters in smash 4, but the fact of the matter is that the assets and data for those characters didn't exist and were created after the feature-complete and content dense main game was finished. They actually had to, you know, put effort into it. Pokemon just had to decide when they wanted to drag and drop a folder.
@@IamTealeaf Most of the characters missing in Brawl were clones/redundancies. It doesn't even really compare to the amount of Pokemon that were missing from Sw/Sh. Like sure Brawl didn't have Roy but they added Ike as a replacement, who's a lot less of a clone from Marth. They removed Mewtwo, but replaced him with Lucario.
Let's not forget that Mewtwo returned in smash 4, and Roy returned in Ultimate with an entirely new moveset. They brought so many characters back, and have added new characters from entirely different franchises that people never even thought possible. I fucking wish Pokemon got as much love and care that Smash does.
34:41 I’d honestly like to see Genius Sonority try there hand at making a 3D Pokémon game again.
Maybe it’s my wearing rose tinted glasses but, from what I can remember Pokémon coliseum, gale of darkness, and battle revolution were absolutely captivating when I played them.
And yet, maybe the magic that made Pokémon what it was started dying when phones became the newest competition to console games.
Pokemon black/white 2 was also my favorite game. Played it 3 times with every starter.
(osawatt is the best one)
This is like a 3 hour review at this point...I like it
I think Sword and Shield had good ideas. The game was rushed and the people working on the game couldn’t make the game they wanted.
I also have a theory that the DLC wasn’t supposed to be DLC. I bet the team was planning on having the other wild areas in the post and mid game. Then they had gotten word on the dead line and were forced to repackage the other wild areas into the DLC. The Isle of armor story seeming to take place when you get your third gym badge because your starter should be fully evolved at the time. The Crown Tundra taking place after the post game.
So the game was rushed on purpose to make the workers repackaged content that should of came out on day one.
HOOOOOOOLD on a second.
Assuming the majority of fans were playing the game day one, the Isle of Armore hadn't been released. Meaning at the time, you couldn't make your Mons G-Max with soup. You found them in dens.
So either the Gym Leaders had access to the Isle of Armor that was probably planned to be a feature -butbecausethisgamewasrushedandgamefreakneededtosqueezemoremoneyoutoftheirfans-, or those are completely different 'Mons that they caught separately because at the time, either something was either born G-Max or not.
No way, RadicalSoda. The next games will be the fourth gen games remake.
Please no. Please don't let Game Freak ruin my childhood.
Gen 6 is where Pokemon died, 5th Gen was the last heart filled main series game.
