I camped there Labor day weekend 2022. The temperature was brutal. Over 100•f and no shade except for a screen shelter I have. Still a nice place. Showers are also available.
Great video. Antelope Island is a great place to visit and stay. My daughter actually got married at the Fielding Garr Ranch a few years back. The yearly buffalo roundup is great to see also.
Can't wait to check out Antelope Island later this year. Great job of showing us what we can look forward to. Cheers from Los Angeles (at least for today) Marc.
Views of Wasatch front are absolutely mind blowing. My little sister is going to be doing her final stint of medical school around Ogden somewhere in early 2024. I will be asking her to send me photos!
Thanks, Jim and Sue! Antelope Island is very well known to locals, but it seems that few from outside the area are familiar with it. Tonight's new video premiere will be another little Great Salt Lake-area hidden gem.
Thank you Patti! We've spent a ridiculous amount of time in the Uintas over the years, but only a few trips since we started Grand Adventure as we now roam further and wider.
Great video Marc. Utah has so much to see and enjoy. Every year they have the Bison Roundup on the island. Volunteers on horseback round up the bison for vaccinations, health checks, and distribution of some to other bison herds to promote diversity of gene pools. I was able to participate in the Roundup one year. It was the experience of a lifetime.
I think antelope island is a strange place, nice to see all the campgrounds, that horse drawn camper was pretty neat. I was wondering if the salt smell is very bad. Another great video Marc.
Locals call that "lake stink". It's not so much from the salt water, but from dying organisms along the shoreline. That's more of a summer phenomenon. No odor this time around. Also, that camper is what's known as a sheep camp. Those who tend to the flock stay out with them in a sheep camp.
@@WILDEBILL308 it sure is. It's been a while since we've been up there, and it was prior to the start of Grand Adventure. As a result we've got some gorgeous still photos but no video.
Ron, there's not one particular one I can recommend without using it myself. However, they should work with the protocol of any vehicle with an OBD2 port.
Thank you! This episode was primarily filmed with a Sony Alpha a6500 with the Sony G-Series 18-105mm lens, supplemented with a few shots from a GoPro Hero 10 Black.
Thanks Marc... that was a neat side trip. Was that the herd that they used to re-populate the herd at Yellowstone some years ago? Just curious. The bison almost went extinct. I assume that the snowpack on the sounding mountains generally isn't that heavy at this time, in most years. Are they expecting flooding and mud slides after the melt in these mountains? 🤔 Gord
Whether or not they used the Antelope Island herd to repopulate Yellowstone I do not know. Whether or not the snowpack generates flooding remains to be seen. It all depends on how gradual a warm up we experience here. Right now, statewide the snowpack is at 201% of average water equivalent. So it's going to be interesting to see what happens when literally two winters' worth of snow starts coming down.
@@gorrdd The Great Salt Lake is pretty much the only basin runoff for the northwestern third of Utah. The other 2/3 eventually ends up in the Colorado River basin.
@@gorrdd by the way, I noticed your original post referred to "at this time." For what it's worth, statistically the first week of April is the time that our mountain snowpack peaks.
Another great job. You are the best tour guide on the internet. We love your way of guiding us around your travels.
Don
Thank you Don!
The seven mile Causeway surprised me. This would be an interesting day trip. Utah is so unique and never dull!
It sure isn't. Very diverse things to see and do.

Yep Keith, Labor Day is too early for Antelope Island IMO. Spring and fall are the best.
Beautiful and interesting as always. Utah is still on our short list ❤
Thank you as always, Lori!
Antelope Island added to the list!
Glad to see you ran away from the snow for a while!:)😉
Don't let that bison hop on your roof...

We hope to see the roundup one day, Nathan. Thank you so very much!
Interesting.
Never knew there was much of anything on this island.
Thanks!

Our pleasure, Ram.
Great information. didn't know there was an island out there. Thanks Don... Like to see how you deicide and plan where go.
Thank you Don! Our plan for the upcoming season that starts for us in 3 weeks is to have no plan. We will see how long we can maintain that.
Another Great video Mark, thanks so much, always look forward to your Wednesday productions. Thomas.
Thank you Thomas! We love bringing them to you.
That island is a gem! Another great place to visit on my travels in the future. Thanks Marc!
Our pleasure, Suzane.

Great breakdown video.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing.Great info. as always Marc🌟Always wishing the safest of travels👍
Thank you as always Brooke!
thanks Marc. I just may get to Antelope Island this Fall.
Just make sure to wait until late enough in the fall that the temps are comfortable, and the brine flies are on the decline.

Better yet, head on out there to visit. We'll be back in SLC from 12/1 to 5/1 for ski season, as usual.
Wow! This was very interesting! Thanks Marc, great job as usual! We never knew this existed.

Looks like a beautiful spot. Nice looking camping there for sure. As always, safe travels....
It's definitely a unique and special place, Shawn. Thanks so much for watching!
Great episode! Live in SLC through the 80's and never visited Antelope Island. It is now on our itinerary!
Have you done anything in the Uintas?

Headed here in a few weeks for our shakedown with new rig.
This was a well done presentation of the island. Golden spike would be anouther good one.

When are you heading to Washington state next?
Not sure. We are going to likely stay west this year, but our plan is to have no plan.
The majestic bison. Mother natures pervert.
Should be renamed Spider island! They are EVERYWHERE!
Lots of biting sand flies in summer, too.
