Scout is very good starting class, arguably the best. I at least think it is better than soldier by a longshot.
    1. It outpaces the other classes feat wise with all of it's useful bonus feats, (including uncanny dodge which is nice).
    2. Increases ALL 3 saves every level, whereas other classes only do this with one type of save. Also starts at +2 for all saves, whereas other classes start with +2 on only one type of save.
    3. Gives a wide variety of skills and the second highest amount of skill points. (two more per level than soldier).
    4. The loss of heavy armor doesn't hurt because it won't matter once you become a jedi (it restricts important force powers).
The only thing you would lose out on by going scout over soldier is a single point of attack bonus every 4 levels and 2HP per level. But, if you start saving your level ups at level 4 until you get jedi classes, you'd only lose out on 1 point of attack bonus and 8hp in total. But in return you get 2 more feats, 2 more skill proficiency's, 8 more skill points, and +3 more to WILL and REF saves than soldier, which is well worth it for the benefits.
Also, my advice is to NOT go Sentinel ever. It is underwhelming, and only gives you immunities that you can find most of elsewhere. Always go Knight for melee focuses (lightside reccomended) or Consular for casting focus (darkside reccomended). There is no rule stating that scout is stuck to speccing into sentinel, nor would it be optimal to do so.

The KOTOR ones are a classic! Especially about their stories!

I appreciate you having made this, as a 25yo just now playing k1 for the first time ever, right now. Because of that, not only have i subscribed, but I feel a little more valid in saying that you lost the plot pretty hard at 7:30 ish. I'm sure your content has improved since this video, I just wanted to bring it up as both KOTOR games went on a massive sale for May the 4th, and lots of people like me will be looking for build guides. Love the solid info up until this point, (probably after, too, you seem knowledgeable), but maybe a revision of this video would get a fat chunk of new attention due to the recent sales of these games. Personally, I just bought k1, k2, and republic commando for less than $11 usd.

(Also still going to like and continue watch this vid because it's very helpful, just wanted to give some loving feedback, as a lifelong gamer nerd and searcher of build guides)

Self reply vid commentary #2! I decided to pick a scout for some diversity in my first play through, and you suggested only skills for the soldier class at start

DON'T waste points on skills! leave it at 8 BECAUSE your teammates will have the skills you'll need, just switch to them if you need to bypass a lock, computer hacks, mine recover ect. Also if you pick scoundrel / jedi consoular you want a high wisdom for force attacks down the road.

ENGLISH! It's okay bro, i do that too and it always happens when it's most inconvenient.
Not a bad starting guide. I've played this game since I was 12 or 13 (I'm 26 now lol) i hope more people come to love this game like i have:)

Hey mate, just watched the video, as someone who plays a lot of Kotor 1, I'd say that it wasn't a bad guide. A basic one for people who haven't played the game, as you stated in your description.
Could have possibly cut it into individual videos of each class to allow you to go a little bit more in-depth without having 1 video run for too long.
The text that comes up for scoundrel is spelled wrong, you wrote "scoundral" with an 'a'
Thought the music was just a touch too loud, could have easily got some background music from the game, maybe Manaan music?, to suit the video more.
All in all, fine video, keep the kotor videos coming!

Scoundrel is better than soldier. More skill points, you get a dex bonus(helps with the obstacle of Taris for the beginning of the game).

I pretty much never pick Soilder as the other classes perks are so much better.

@@BritishGuyGaming Yeah, when I first played the game a long time ago, I would moronically pick soldier.

      @user-un8jx8yo7z 3 роки тому +1

Why would you want more skill points except for role playing (Especially when you team mates can cover your skills) ? A dex bonus for Taris is not a good reason to pick a character. Soliders get the most feats by far. If you said something about the ability to sneak attack on stuns then you'd have an arguement but those reasons you gave suck.

@@user-un8jx8yo7z I feel like soilder is the best if you're just starting and don't know how everything in the game works. And getting more feats is always a plus, i just think that all the other soilder benefits are a little lacking.

    • @user-un8jx8yo7z

@@BritishGuyGaming can you give me a comparison what pushes the other classes higher in trying to understand. Honestly when I wanted to min max I picked solider it was just to strong not to. I think they also get the most health too which isn't a bad thing.

As a point of interest, Jedi gain Jedi defense. Automatically which is a +6 defense. According to my research, the defense stat is underutilized in the first game, and still about as useful in 2. Dex is good for blaster builds - which are very counter intuitive for what your character actually can't help being - but I like unarmed builds in most RPG's so I've got no legs to stand on there. It's actually more defensive in the long run to invest first in Strength for any character except consular - who'd want Wisdom pumped for their version of "moar powar." Greater strength directly contributes damage to your main weapon - lightsaber in the end game and is a little more reliable than the blasters overall. You will still be hit. No matter how high the defense value is. I've actually tried an 8 str, 16 dex and 20 con build. I did a LOT better with an 18 str, 8 dex and X con - note: I said x con, not x-com - toon to start with.
For general reference and as an Aid to this very good starting point (which I am not trying to contradict, but to help) - with help copied in my own research from the wiki:
Going to level 8 = 13 force powers for a Guardian Char, and a Sentinel. 15 for Consular.
Going level 5 = 16 force powers for Guardian and Sentinel, 19 for a consular (anything more in holding levels can be needlessly difficult, and worse on higher difficulty levels)
For feats the worst combo you can try is scoundrel/sentinel and it doesn't matter if you take to level 5 or 8 as it's the same value either way: you get only 8. Which is enough to max only 2 lines.
Best is Soldier/Guardian with 13 feats to claim, but a scout/guardian gets 11 if taking the first to lv 5; a soldier/consular and a scoundrel/guardian both get 10 feats when taking the first to lv 5, which still fills 3 lines. (Scout/Guardian arguably loses one feat slot if taken to lv 8 - but just as arguably gains it back, since they get Implant lv 3 at that rank for free - which is what I would have probably used it on eventually)
    * I think if you want a straight damage character might be best to skip Consular - despite the benefits incurred to force points and saves it does make you weaker in melee combat. (you will not be able to stun everything) My next build to attempt is going to be 18 strength, 8 dex, 10 con, 8 int - The actual skill increase is horrendous in 1, per point invested. i.imgur.com/UKbWGRN.jpg - This chart will show what I mean. Far as I can tell it's accurate - 16 wis. There are two items in game that you can use on the Light Side, that grant in congruence 10 wis: so you will basically be a force god no matter what if you choose to get them. (I tend to want to play tanky, so I haven't done it yet, but my last soldier build had ridiculous HP with Toughness, at level 17, with only a 10 in con) For reference, implant is recommended as a feat line because it can boost stats, but is probably best used to grant immunity to poison - to ward Plague, or immunity to mind affecting. If you have the DLC Yavin, there's an implant that grants both as one.
This is a very stats based game, so hopefully I haven't gone too far down the rabbit hole for new players to follow, and hopefully it doesn't come off like I'm trolling. There's a lot of builds that can be viable. The difference is whether you care to play optimal, and by how much. : )
** Wisdom should be higher than charisma - unless you are intentionally playing a character that wants to use opposed sided powers. A light side character that uses mostly dark side powers. Other than that, and a slight boost to persuasion, Charisma does nothing of note. Wisdom contributes not only to force points at base, and perhaps gained per level, but also to saves against force powers so it's always more useful. (It's in the attribute description, so I'm still not intending to insult here. Just help) For reference, the reason I say Consular makes you weaker in melee is because it gives less feats, and those are how you counter lower attack rolls. It doesn't matter how much damage you're meant to do, if you miss. They are however stronger as 'classic' magic users. They're basically the non-blaster ranged option. One point for skills - There is an argument to put off taking points in skills until you become a Jedi; because your MC is the only one who can put them into Persuade. Once you become a jedi, the persuade skill becomes a class skill, as does awareness. It's much cheaper in that case to spend them on persuade, which is the only skill that can't be covered by your party, after becoming a jedi. Your MC is also the only one who can take 'Dominate Mind' as a force power - though I will admit the times you'd really want/need to use it; it will either fail contrary to what you'd expect of the name, or give you dark side points. However, it's also a fast way to gain them in some areas, if that's the playthrough you're going for. It's of course up to you whether you want to play the charming, persuasive/diplomatic character. I'm still not sold on it being worth it for myself.
