I am a huge Nirvana fan been since I was a kid but absolutely hated when Kurt and the guys would fuck up songs on purpose for their own amusement. I found it disrespectful as a fan who stood in lines and on their feet all day to see their favorite band and they spew this bullshit. I think Kurt was just mentally exhausted and was done like he said in his "Suicide letter". Still one of my fav bands all time..
They messed up they're songs as a protest against the music industry. Like when they butchered Top of the Pops UK because they were told they couldn't use live instrumental. This was in protest of a tobacco company, Hollywood Smoke, sponsoring the festival. Even though Kurt smoked, he wasn't a big fan of tobacco companies or their advertising.
Who cares. The whole point of Nirvana was they didn't conform to the norms. That's what people love about them, they didn't take things too seriously. People loved that it wasn't musically perfect. All the notes hit, all the guitar playing 100% right. Nirvana were the antithesis of this.. I mean who went to a nirvana show to listen to the lyrics?
