    thank you! just bought a used 50w OMtech that had been in storage for awhile. scouring you tube for similar machines so i can get mine up and running. i was able to clean the other lenses but was unable to get to the main one. i guess i was afraid to pull at the black hose too hard, but that was what it took.

    This is a good video. I appreciate your doing this. Can, sometime in the future can you cover the benefits (or not) of changing lenses and different focal lenses. Again, thanks for a great video.

    Good tutorial, one correction - the plastic ring goes below the lens, not above. it is there to isolate air in bottom chamber.

      Then why does the operating manual state "Carefully insert lens into the lens holder, ensuring that it's rounded convex side is facing upwards. put the o-ring on top of the lens. carefully reassemble the lens and laser head attachments in reverse order"

    Let me ask you this. Your laser head seems super tight mine moves if I try to take anything off of it. So I can wiggle it a little bit forward and back. Is this normal? If not do have a video of how to tighten it?

    Can you put a 1.5 or 4 inch lens on an Omtech machine? Would you just drop it into the cone??

    Thanks for this. I've had an Omtech 60W red & black laser since February and just cleaned the lens and mirrors for the first time. I have the autofocus sensor, so had to remove that in order to unscrew the cone as well, next time I'll try just unscrewing the entire air intake as you did. One issue is I'm not sure if I put the lens back in right side up or not. Will the results be very obvious if I have it in upside down? I know your video and OmTech's video both say that one side is concave and one side is flat, but they both appeared very flat to me. And I can see my reflection in each side as well - in one side it is quite close so my face appear large, so I assume that's the side that is supposed to go up, while the other side (hopefully the flat side) looks more like a mirror image, where I can see my face and shoulders etc, that is, one side appears that I'm looking into one of those magnifying beauty mirrors and the other side appears more like a regular mirror with no magnification. Hopefully that's the flat side and goes down (towards the work piece)?

      The side where you can see a full reflection of yourself is the curved side and that is the side that should face up and receive the laser beam.

      @@BeardedBuildsCo Thank you! I had put it in upside down, although surprisingly it seemed to still cut fine and be about equally sharp. I’ve flipped it over now, but googling I came across a handful of articles suggesting round side down, or that it doesn’t really matter (!)

    Can I do this with the chiller and laser on or should it be off?

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  4 місяці тому

      Either way. This does not require you to manipulate any electronics. If you were concerned you could just turn the laser key to off.

    Good video.
    FYI:
    A dirty lens can also cause the laser to burn the lens where the dirt is. Anything that impedes the light going thru the lens can cause heat, which in turn can scorch or burn that part of the lens. The higher the wattage, the more heat.
    Same goes for ALL mirrors that the light bounces off of.
    I retired from a Cable Company and worked mainly with the fiber optics (transmitters and receivers, etc.). I learned alot about the importance of clean fiber connectors, which also applies here.
    I currently own a Glowforge, but am seriously looking at an upgrade to a AF2028-80.
    Bottom line... Keep ALL lenses and mirrors clean!

    So I just got my 55 W and fired it up is it normal for the red dot to be 6" away from the laser nozzle ? If not how do I go about adjusting that?

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  3 роки тому +1

      The red dot comes at an angle from the side of the laser head it is only accurate when you has set your focus height.

    Hi sorry to be a pain but I moved the shaft rather than unscrewing the nozzle part has that now lost my focus or does it not matter to the focal part where the shaft is positioned

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  3 роки тому

      It should not make a huge difference. If you see any issues then it would just be an adjustment of the knobs on top of the laser head.
