Paul Harvey, a great radio host from years ago, interviewed at the time ,the oldest living person in America, a 105 year old lady. He asked “ what is your secret”. She answered “ honey, I don’t have a secret “. He then asked “ well then, what is your diet”? Her answer which I still recall these 30 to 40 years later was “ for the past 20 years about the only thing I’ve eaten is Kentucky fried chicken and Twinkies”

I am lucky to have Southern European parents where food was medicine. It was fresh daily, made from scratch. My mother never bought packaged anything. She didn't know what they put in it. She ground her own meat also. No sweets or soda pop in the house ever. Shopped 4-5x a week, never once or twice a month.
Ice cream on a rare occasion.
    No leftovers either.
Snacks? Fresh fruits of every kind. Fasting on religious holidays was normal.

Because the parents insist on it. I tried to have a sugar-free second grade classroom, but my students’ parents complained about it to the school board. I was directed to allow my students to eat as much sugar as they wanted.

Excellent information. At 35 I was feeling out of balance, had headaches, didn't know how to get back my strength. A co worker gave me the direction of a naturist and one of his methods was having a cold shower and the grand finale was throwing from head to toe a tub of water with ice. At first it felt like a shock, but the third day all my symptoms were gone. I kept using this method for a month and whenever I feel any imbalance. So true what's been said. Thank you.

wow "guys" , you are speaking to my heart! please let me know what we can do, and HOW, as a society, to change this!! At my age, 73, I know NOBODY who is not on some kind of medicine!! I am not....thank goodness, so far...I do cook everyday, do not buy packaged stuff, no soda, etc etc , everything you tell us, AND I was not aware that that is not the norm anymore.....
I do see that f.i. in the frozen food sector, the green veggies sector is getting smaller and smaller, almost only spinach and some broccoli, that is it! And fresh food also, the variety is diminishing......not as bad as in the US of course.....yet! Now, the gov is trying to get the farmers sell their land, so we can build more houses!......it seems a vicious circle.....

The regulators target seniors to move along some local governments instead of putting z in systems in place to support seniors staying at home the agenda is move to an apt or condos spme seniors end up relocating far due to lack of affordable living far away. Seniors are told young people and families need homes so it's unfair
That you old folks are homeowners
Not all seniors need to live in apts
Or assisted living some are healthy and are entitled to choice
There seems to be an agenda to whare house us in some provinces
Of canada. By placing those with no families in senior facility and take control of their. Pensions leading little for the pensioner after cost of care is deducted so planning for aging is important if one wants to live and not exist. Seniors need not lip service about closer to home
Model instead of focusing on institutions those wo sray st home is far healthier.

I think there is something in your genes that makes you a good sleeper or a bad one …. my husband is snoring beside me, in the sane room, same temperature etc, except I haven’t had any alcohol or anything to eat since 7pm (to aid sleep), but he has! Guess he’s just the lucky one 😢

But instead, as Dr. Hyman says, they set you up to fail. Tell me again that the government is "here to help".

Food deserts exist because the grocery business does not want to set up in that community. The community has to solve the problem at the grassroots level, not by government. These stores can’t set up because of the shoplifting, vandalism and violence. If there was a potential for profit in an area, the business would set up.

    • @believer8480
      @believer8480 Рік тому +1

@@moewilson4605 So true, it’s pretty bad when you have to put bar’s on the windows to keep the thieves out. The new trend nowadays in America, is a group of thieves just walk into a store, typically a pharmacy (but not always) with trash bags and just empty the shelves of whatever they want and walk out! Other shoppers are just standing there with their jaw dropping at the shear audacity! I’ve always said, if there’s one thing I can’t stand is a thief! It would be one thing if they were stealing medicine they couldn’t afford to save a dying child but typically if you’re that poor, the government give’s some kind of aid. No, most often it’s not to save a life but to feed their drug habits or a sense of entitlement I guess! I’m really angry at these thieves because everyone suffers, the cost is passed off to the paying customers through higher prices. Now we’re seeing countless pharmacies just shut their doors and refuse to operate in some of these lawless big cities! The riots over the past few decades are a prime example of looting, where you see people crashing store fronts and running out with high end electronics, large screen color TV’s laughing all the way! If they did what was done in the old days(and in other countries today) cut a hand off for those that joyfully steal, there would be less stealing! How about getting a job like normal people, everyone is hiring now, everyone! The laws need to change, the penalties need to be stricter, with a zero tolerance, or 3 strikes is followed by a long prison sentence. It starts with being raised to have morals, ethics, working to contribute to society instead of this lazy criminal behavior! The courts do little to them and they’re back out on the street doing the exact same thing! I have first hand knowledge of this because two of my kids are police officers. My daughter said, “Mom it’s not worth my life to chase down these criminals who won’t be prosecuted or go to jail and be back on the streets the next day doing the same thing!” It’s hard for law enforcement officer’s to put their life on the line daily when these LIBERAL judge’s won’t enforce the law’s already on the book’s! So these criminal’s ruin it for everyone, especially the elderly in these inner cities, that now have to take a bus to nearby cities to get their prescriptions refilled! Yes, I’m frustrated at our government for the way thing’s are going. It’s as if they’re trying to destroy America on purpose!😢

Regarding the food choices section of this video, I believe that the lack of positive legislation of the food and advertising industries is not only driven by benefits given to senators government ministers and such , but also drug companies that have customers pre made for them from childhood onwards. Most family doctors don’t have the time or energy to educate their patients on diet even if they themselves are up to date with modern thinking . it’s easier to give drugs and in much of europe, it can also be far more lucrative for the doctors themselves who may be offered benefits to prescribe drugs.

@@jonwelch564 I 100% agree. My 83 year old mother refuses to allow her doctor to put her on meds and now I follow in her footsteps. We both tested for high cholesterol and immediately was put on cholesterol meds. NOT, why didn't my cardiologist initially design a cholesterol lowering diet (wol) to see if that would help or make a difference. Nope, not just one but 2 cholesterol meds were subscribed to which one of them increases the odds of type2 diabetes which I don't struggle with. No , no and no. I've already lost 7 pounds in a month just eating live foods. Take your health and those you love into your own hands otherwise, the vicious cycle never ends. The medical industry needs to step up & start giving a damn about others. I want to help in any way, those that struggle with good nutrition. We, as a society need to put our heads together and come up with a program to do this.

2- what are their thoughts on foods that are not accessible for those who live in Northern areas, when nothing grows durimg th cold season,

Thus, there's too much history to detail in a UA-cam comment. But, in short, he cherry picks data, follows fads, and writes fad books based on what's popular. He takes things out of context, too. He's similar to Eric Berg, Josh Axe, and many other "alternative" quacks. I wish I had back the time and money I've invested in these folks. @@mshelle8 My pleasure. Hyman probably means well. Or, at least, he did at one point. I think it's so difficult to become a doctor that I doubt many go into that profession simply for the money. One can make much more than a doctor and do so with a lot less stress and fewer hours. So, I think people go into medicine for noble reasons. However, over the years, providers get worn down for many reasons and "alternative" medicine allowed many doctors to pivot and build a career where they can work less and make more. Eventually, some of them realize they can make even more money by writing books, creating courses, and design supplements. Then, they go on podcasts like this one to promote their latest theory, book, or supplement. Never mind that a year or two ago, the person might have released a book stating the exact opposite of what they now believe. They don't issue any retractions, apologize to their followers for giving them different information, and they certainly don't issue any refunds. Just look at the clickbait titles of these UA-cam videos...there's always one more person with a "fix" or a "cure" for a problem. These videos will never stop. There have been tens of thousands of books written on the topic of diet alone. Why should we expect that the next person will have "the" answer? And, why should we think it will apply to thousands or millions of people? Is there really anything new for us to learn, in most cases of diet, health, and exercise? I mean, anything beyond some new genetic SNiP or some obscure peptide? Will those things be the thing that unlocks perfect health or eternal life? I doubt it. Do we really need someone to save us? I think about people living their native lifestyle in the outback of Australia. They thrive without matcha tea, CBD oil, and goji berries. Most of the time we (myself included) spend on UA-cam and other platforms is not only wasted, I'd say it's likely counterproductive. After over a decade of pursuing health-related information, I have a constellation of facts at my fingertips. First, many of them conflict with each other. More importantly, it didn't ultimately change what I could have learned from my grandmother, with regard to diet. This is why I say I don't think we need more information, regarding diet, exercise, and health. There will be exceptions, of course, such as someone having specific health conditions. I have some issues, which is why I ended up on UA-cam, blogs, and podcasts. Conventional medicine isn't perfect. But, as I've also found, alternative medicine is full of pseudoscience, exaggerated claims, and expensive and unproven treatments. It's a mixed bag. It all depends on where one is starting and where they're trying to go.

Karl Hungus I think the biggest problem is overall people don't understand food or how to prepare it. If you grow up in a home where no one cooks, you have no background. That person continues making bad choices out of ignorance; they have a family...it becomes a cycle of bad food choices out of ignorance. This is where most Americans live. The most complaints I've heard during the pandemic is the inability to eat in restaurants & having to cook! So people buy prepared foods in order not to cook, again poor food choices. Yes you do have to sift through the noise but learning @good food choices is an important tool we all need to learn-relearn. Our health & life is dependent on this.
