When I heard it back then I thought to myself, this is some special tech.. Then came the playstation and, well.. Still though, it's nice to see as a Sega fan..
Glad you guys finally get to see World Tour Mode in it's full glory, while I dropped a freight train of information on it in the chat. Alpha 3 may not be the competitive game for me, but it was the first game I did research for online, looking up move lists on GameFAQs. If Max's MO with fighting games is still just "to show off cool shit", mine is to find it. Big thanks to Kao Megura, your efforts will never be forgotten.
I remember Alpha 3 World Tour mode very well!! I grinded until I unlocked Shin Akuma and like a madman I played through the whole of World Tour again as Shin Akuma. Now that I'm much older I'm realising just how many good memories I have from the Street Fighter franchise alone 😢
As long as all characters are unlocked by default in multiplayer. I ain't playing hours and hours of characters I didn't ask to play to unlock the guy I want to play against other people with.
Apparently, the reason World Tour was the way it was in the DC ver is because WT characters are effectively put in a 4th Ism, “I-Ism”. You could then save your I-Ism character on the VMU, then load them up on the Naomi version of Alpha 3 Upper, then fight other I-Ism characters on arcades. (I could be very wrong here, so just take all of this with a grain of salt.)
That's basically correct. MvC2's Japanese Dreamcast release exacerbated this by requiring you to play in the Arcades to chip away at unlocking the extra characters. Thank God for Capcom releasing a special edition VMU with a 100% savefile on it (and people who dumped/archived it)
I hope they hide some of the things announcers have said over the years as easter eggs in the new SF6 world tour. I want a big story boss battle fight where a character is like, "TRIUMPH or DIE!!!!"
Akuma: *randomly standing in the corner watching the fight while ordering fruits* triumph or die! *slides in and beats up your would be opponent.* XD I'd love something weird like that.
Max! You sure do bring back memories of this game 🎮 World 🌎 Tour was for me a training tool to enhance my skills with the few characters I've used in this mode. All in all, I have to thank my friend for teaching me the fundamentals of Street Fighter, in general, including Alpha/Zero 3. If it wasn't for him, I would of passed this game up. Thanks, Max for making my day, playing SFZ3
The Saturn version of Street Fighter Zero 3 may be the best home version ever. I never owned it. I had the game in Dreamcast. The two games are identical, but the Saturn controller is the perfect pad for Street Fighter. I had to import an ASCII Fight Pad FT for my Dreamcast to equal what the Saturn had on offer. ed. I also have Street Fighter Alpha 3 Double Upper/Street Fighter Alpha 3 Pro Max on the PSP. It has one or two additional characters, which makes it damn near the equal to the Saturn/Dreamcast version, but the controls aren’t as good because of the button layout and there are some load times to contend with. Still, it’s a stellar game in its own right.
Same. Definitely one of, if not Bengus’ best artwork illustrations, and all the other ones they did for Capcom’s fighting games back in the CPS2-Naomi era are just as amazing

There are little things that I notice that make this different from the PlayStation version. The Saturn version has the echo sounds from the hits when you get counter hits and KOs. The PlayStation version doesn't have that. The PlayStation version when you get a win and do a pose fades out the music whilst the Saturn version the music just randomly stops. So both miss something from the Arcade port which obviously has the fade out music and the echo sound effects from Super counter hits and knockout hit. It maybe a nitpick but those small things matter to me because I actually love the soundtrack for this game. Also the sparks after being hit were slightly different in the PlayStation version and the Saturn version were arcade perfect. The PlayStation version could only show Blanka and Zangief's full win poses if they played in a mirror match whereas on Sega Saturn they had enough memory to put it in there. It makes me wonder if there was a fully arcade perfect port of this game? Probably in the Alpha Anthology port of the game I imagine but that version doesn't have the World Tour mode.
Actually I think the reason why the quality of the sound effects and voice clips is so low is because of the small amount of sound RAM on the Sega Saturn. It only has 512 kilobytes of sound RAM.
I find the Dreamcast and PSP World Tour more fun, you can use all the upgrades you get and not just two or three, there is also more variety of fights like the fight against 2 Super Bisons and in the PSP version the upgrades are not limited only to the Wolrd Tour, they also give you for finishing other modes with the character you used in the WT. Another thing is that I prefer to play in Turbo 1, I think that way I can better appreciate the game and its animations.
