You read that article on Hot Rod where they took a 4.8 to town? Made something like 480hp and 380ftlbs NA? Then they bolted on 2 76mm turbos and cranked it up to 1200hp for 60 runs. Didn't break a thing. Thats one seriously underrated motor. I'm considering buying one to put in my 85 Mercedes diesel.
the 4.8 have the power to surprise this i have a 2000 silverado and she is quick with only a tune and cold air intake they are braught down for some reason but the 283 is one of best motor general motors ever made get a turbo and you will see what it can do my brother owned a 04 4.8 with a turbo and i sink in the seat and gave me whiplash lol worth every penny.
It's fast but that 60 looks horrible. Any reason you aren't running a two step or a transbrake? Are you still running that 8.6 rear and that's the reason for the soft launch? Or does your set up have alot of lag?
I have ywo questions if you have time.. what trans pls dont tell me 4l60 that thong would fry that in a heartbeat th400 or 4l80? And what rear end? Stock posi or after market like detroit or eaton? Thanks.. Evan
they didnt come with them you had to put them on and because they call the 4.3 the 3/4 350 because it has the same specs as a 350 just 2 cylinders chopped off the torque on them is ridiculous and with a supercharger you really dont have to take it to a dyno for a good tune just to use it as a dd
@bglowark12 True, they are easier to install. But you'll get more power out of a turbo. Personally I rather work with a V8 than a V6. To each his own though.
the v6 def has specialized performance parts. If anyone knows of a site for headers for the 4.3 let me know because ive been trying to find them since i have holes in my manifold
i guy did his own its extended cab and normal bed but it rips. so i wouldnt mind doing one in my short cab long bed 5 speed. superchargers are way easier to install than a turbo i think
No, the larger the CI the more engine output. If you took a 293 4.8 and converted it to a 383 6.3 stroker , 30% larger engine. You can gain up to 65-85 HP. Also understand other mods will benefit even more.
500hp to the flywheel or ground? 500hp is easy to achieve with a $10,000 budget. Easiest way is spending about $7,000 on a whipple supercharger at 6-8 PSI. The kits come complete with proper injectors needed. Expect 1200-1500 install and 500 for a tune. Understand this, you may and will need to make adjustments to the transmission to avoid ruining it. Adjustments to your axle if you plan on running stickies will also be a must.

what does someone need to make 500hp out of a 4.8? turbo kit, innercooler and injectors?
never underestimate the 4.8 my 03 sierra 4x4 has one and it will keep up with my dads 5.7 no problem, new mbrp cat back exhaust goin on tommarow !

Same bore, but the 5.3 has a longer stroke. Which in theory means the 4.8 can rev faster and higher.
Truck had 70k when I installed the first turbo, it currently has 111k.
i have the 4.8 in the 2003 silverado.. how are you getting these number with stock internals?
