Ive drank Yerba Mate for years preparing it in my french press... I ordered a gord and I'm trying it for the first tme... I love it! Thanks for your vids they are most inspiring.
Very helpful info. We’ve been in Argentina and Uruguay last 5 weeks so just recently started drinking Mate. We were also told to start with cold water first o activate the Mate and cut down on the bitterness. Biggest contributor to bitterness we found was the hot water. Warm water worked much better than hot water. Again thank you for the video.
Thanks so much, David. Good to hear that you're in the Southern Cone. I hope you guys are enjoying yourselves. That's right, lower temps, and the initial inclusion of cold water, will decrease bitterness. Also, try exploring mates that are naturally less bitter such as Liebig, Playadito, Union Suave, Pipore, etc. If you ever want to join our little mate group, please check t.me/circleofdrink Saludos!
Everyone just be sure to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. This stuff is also a deuraretic.I don't know why some people also don't mention that as well. So that's my 2 cents lol.Great video yes Dave is on fire and knows a lot thanks Dave. Great video
I just discovered yerba mate and I’m so glad i tried it the traditional way with a straw. I tried it in the past in tea bags but the traditional way is stronger.
The first yerba i bought was a strong paraguayan paraguayan one, definitely very dusty and bitter. The first time i tried it i couldnt drink anymore after a coulpe of sips, the next day i could drink a little bit more and with every day it felt less and less bitter - after a week of drinking it the bitterness didnt bother me at all. Going on for a month now.
@@catherinethorpe4717 i havent Been drinking the past couple months but from what i remember it would get me really energized and i remember being less hungry throughout the day. Idk if its healthy or not but its definitely a good substitute for coffe or energy drinks which i used to be addicted to
I will attest. I was one who tried yerba mate, different brands at that, both smoked and un-smoked leaves. I could not stand it. I tried masking it with honey, sugar, lemon, sometimes even other spices such as anise, cinnamon, etc. I really could not palate it. Here I am ~2 years later, and I love it. Albeit I have yet to try a good ol' gourd again. I still have my gourd and bombilla, but instead I've been french pressing it and drink it straight with nothing added. I'm afraid if I go back to more traditional methods, I will taste that bitterness again and be turned off. But for the past few months, french pressed yerba mate has been my go to for a nice caffeine boost. Never get that jittery feeling like I can get from strong coffee, and it's just pretty pleasant tasting and refreshing, even in warm weather.
Dave I've been drinking Mate for the past few years and its def the best health drink in the world imo. Thanks for introducing it to me. I use a French press every time personally. I just wanted to recommend a new one I'm trying called Salante Power Blend by Itapua. I've never felt as good physically after drinking a Mate as well as that one and it actually has a unique flavor unlike most bitter mates. Please try it and make a review.
I feel like I'm so late to the party I literally just found out about this yesterday so I ordered some from Amazon got it today and after looking at so many videos I made some it's my 5th cup and I don't really feel much effect I like it but I can't say I love it, the taste is okay not too bitter, hope it delivers.
Sure, I can. But quickly, I mostly drink my own handcrafted blends from Circleofdrink.com. Some other brands I enjoy are: Liebig, Playadito, Anna Park, and Kraus.
mate is not bitter. not sure why people think that. its plain tasting. if it's bitter to you, it means it's good for you. your taste buds have been programmed to like salty and sweet foods/drinks. and look what happened to the people of the US ): this mate has over 195 vitamins. just drink it people!
I found out something interesting about why some people respond so strongly to bitterness. They literally have more taste buds on their tongues - there is a greater density of taste buds in the case of about 20% of people, which translates to well over 1.5 billion worldwide, or close to seventy million in the US alone.
I just weigh out 1 gram of yerba mate ground up powder. I put it in a giant capsule or 2 smaller capsules. Then just swallow it. Feel energy after about 30-45 minutes. If I'm in a hurry I just put the 1 gram of yerba mate powder into half a glass of orange juice then swallow. Either way the bitter taste problem is eliminated. I've been consuming yerba mate like this for about 15 years. Good luck & have a great day all!
I'm from the uk but my friend in Argentina got me drinking mate and have been drinking it for a long time now, the type of mate I love is Amanda despalada
I have licuorice root at home and never came to My mind to mix it with the mate. Must be a good idea if you want to add a slight sweet taste since licuorice is naturally sweet taste
I've been considering making a blend of mate and ephedra. It would be a natural version of EC stack, and my hope is it would have some of the benefits of that potent potion without the drawbacks. Stay safe kids.
Im from Poland, im new with yerba mate (drinking for 1 month), i like terere more than traditional hot yerba can u reccomend me some kind of taste or something?
Barely about to try after watching a few videos but wondering where does the guayaka yerba mate rank in these? Is it ok for first time or is it horrible and not recommended?
I love it, but it got to a point where even drinking it with honey will make my mouth very dry and just irritate my throat after multiple tries on and off. Had to switch to guayusa but it’s not as strong as I need it to be
Hi! I just bought Kraus Yerba Mate, the gourd and the bombilla to start drink it. About lower the bitterness, I've some dried vanilla, what do you think is it also possible? But yes i'll try with sage because its also one of my favorite herb ;)
I found Yerba Mate in tea bags & loose leaf for $1.99 on the clearance shelf at Kroger, curious about what it is. I'm a daily morning coffee drinker & want to try this
That Guayaki yerba mate is junk. I got in yerba mate when I bumped into it at krogers as well. There are some good imports from Argentina and Brazil. Keep in mind the people from Brazil, mercy they really like there mate strong. That's my 2 cent's. Have a great day 😊.
Hey Dave I got a question for you, I'm drinking my mate out of this silicone gourd I got off amazon called Qooble, and the bombilla isn't the best and lets little bits of mate come through. Is it ok or even good to "eat" some of it that comes through/is there a way, without buying a new bombilla, to make this not happen? THX SALUD
Yes, some mate particles coming through the bombilla for the first several cycles is normal, but if it's every time, I'd look into getting a better bombilla.
I don't like the first brew of the day because of the bitterness. The following ones I love. That I believe is the bitter dust in it. Any tips on how to de-dust the leaves better? I do use the hand on top of gourd and shake but it does not seem to be enough. I still drink it every day but would really like to love the first brew too. :)
If you really wanted to go crazy, you could use a flour sifter and remove all the dust. Or try a brand with minimal dust in combination with mild flavors, such as Playadito or Liebig.
@@Circleofdrink I am a really new Yerba drinker. I have just started to do several de-dustings with hand and the couple few last ones with moist hand. Works pretty well. Only the fist cup is bitter now. I think I found my way to drink it. Thanks anyways. Seems you just have to find your way to do it. :)
Hi I’m new to this I just had my first drink today help I had to add a bit of honey 🍯 to make it a bit sweet not to much the first cup was warm and straight up raw mate bitter, so my second cup I had cold in my gourd with a bit of honey so it seemed much better ? Any new more ideas to blend a little bit of sweetness till I get used to the bitterness. Thank you 🙏🏽 Luis
The effects of Mate is noticed when you drink it for a while, and then stop it for some time. Mental stimulant, your brain works differently, like a switch that goes off. cant be explained.
I love mate, I'm from Rio Grande do Sul. Yet, this has become a weird subculture now cause it's "cool" and has gone as far as people saying "the herb calls them back... calls their spirit" bla bla bla... Come on, my friend. Wake up. It's a good drink, a healthy drink. But that's it.
Is that Californian White Sage? If so, that's not meant to be eaten. It's used as incense or as a smudge-stick...it's not a food-grade herb. Using a single leaf like you did in the video probably won't hurt anyone, but I urge anyone reading this comment to not treat this as a "spice".
My mistake then. It's sometimes helpful to clarify when there are different varieties of something, as not all may be safe to use in the same ways, or can be easily confused with one another. Anise comes to mind. (There's a toxic Japanese variety), and comfrey (the "wild" species of which can cause liver toxicity).
The reason they come back to it is because they bought it already and can't return it. Then they go, hmmm not bad. Definitely less glittery than tea, not life changing though.
Too much talking like beating around bush. Plus do you know what mate means ? If you wold know you wouldn't call tea leaves in the bowl a mate. Yerba Mate means Yerba - herb Mate the cup.
15 minutes to mix 5 ingredients? Come on man! You're a salesman. You shure know your stuf but it's like i am watching TV Shop channel! Too long. I need a coffee...

bitterness sometimes can be due to
1. putting too much yerba in the mate
2. water being too hot
3. leaving the water to soak into the yerba too long
Lowering water temps, that's true.
thoyo So cold pressed for 12hrs not good? Hahah. I put stevia to offset the bitterness and... Super good!
