I started drinking it because of those Guanyaki or whatever the brand is yerba energy drinks. Huge fan. But you're right they're way too expensive. I've found that drinking yerba mate the way it's "supposed to be" is helpful for me because it actually gets me moving around a little in the morning. It's more involved than simply popping in a k-cup for coffee or even brewing a pot. Having to consider that has helped me be more punctual in the mornings. It's added a little structure to my day, which has been beneficial on its own.
Im from Argentina, Mate land, same with Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, we drink mate,,, all day, we travel with our thermos at work, take it to walks in the park for little pick nicks, as soon you arrive some friends home, well offer mate if you are really close and trusted, or coffee to those no so close as preference. Yes, sharing mate is a matter of friendly and welcoming gesture, we drink it from same container with a metal artesanal straw on it, the container is the very fruit of yerba mate if you are a humble native of this countries, you probably have the original container for mate drink, there is a great ethnically history behind yerba Mate. You can ad milk to mate tea, orange, lemon and grapefruit peal, pieces of cinnamon sticks, coffee grains, mint, clove, we use to ad any herb to it and whatever your heart desires

Sometimes I will go back to my matcha green tea just for a change but I always come back to Yerba Mate. It gives me energy both mentally and physically and it helps curb my appetite. Argentinian here who’s been drinking mate for more than 30 years. Organic Yerba mate is not a thing there and I’ve never heard of any cases of cancer linked to drinking mate. People drink it mostly hot in Buenos Aires almost every day from 1-3 x a day and start drinking it young in many cases. Interesting video 👍
Thank you for sharing. I love Argentina and the culture. Yerba mate has been used for many years with no problem, however not all sources of it are the same.
When someone has tongue or throat cancer doctors can't really say that it is because of that. The problem is not the herb itself, it's the temperature. Drinking mate at very high temperature may burn the tongue, lips, throat, etc... If that process is repeated through time, it may become cancer.
I've been drinking mate almost daily since i was 8 years old and im 29 years old now, never had any downside effect, I'm not a doctor just stating personal experience

@@amywilliams8876 3 to go cups, thermos brand. I drink it hot. I’m also self employed with no debt, so I basically do whatever I want on a daily basis.
The problem with these studies is the experimental group was compared to a placebo control. If we're comparing to green tea as the introduction suggests, a good source would be a paper that actually had a third comparison group that received green tea supplementation prior to exercise. Additionally, it's very possible that this increase in FAO/EEFAO is caused by the caffeine content of Yerba, not some other unique chemical property. A fourth group using coffee, which has a similar caffeine content to Yerba, should be included in the design to discern whether this is the case or not. It might not be cost-effective to source Yerba if you're only doing it for better fat oxidation when a cheap cup of coffee would do the same trick. If someone wants to switch because they like the taste more, all the more power to them. But there's too many holes in the research shown to be drawing conclusions about it being better for fat loss.
Yep, couldn't agree more. And the talk about it resulting to cancer is even more baffling. It would b be great to have a more in-depth and wider research on yerba mate.

Yerba mate has been linked to cancer but the studies that said that were extremely badly done and more than likely false. They were asking smokers and already cancerous people if they drank mate
I add some data. Mate is a diuretic. And if you are not used to drinking it, it will cause severe diarrhea. You can always start by drinking mate, but cooked mate, which is more similar to tea, it is easier to prepare, richer if you add sugar and smoother.
Yes you are correct, when I 1st started drinking more Yerba Mate I got sever diarrhea & it was from a Mild Yerba Mate brand (I started with a light Yerba mate, but I think I drank too much on an empty stomach) . I actually called out sick to work cause I was on the Toilet 10 times that day. I think my severe diarrhea was the result of Drinking a lot of Yerba Mate (like 3 16oz glasses in a row) on an empty Stomach. @@harleyrenegade8035 It just takes a while. Consider that Argentine children and pets drink mate without diarrhea. Although it is always a diuretic.
