As someone who owns a Pen Tablet & iPad Pro. As intuitive it feels working on a display screen, you still have to take into consideration the drawbacks: Poor Posture, Eye hand view, etc. What I mean by that is, the posture & body mechanics when using a display takes more of a toll on your body as opposed to pen tablet. Your shoulders & neck won’t be as stressed. For a pen tablet, b/c you have a complete POV of your work on the screen, you aren’t limited visually b/c you’re controlling the mouse cursor. This can also apply to tablets too, not just pen displays. Pen tablets are advantageous in this area, even professionals stick to using it instead of going for a pen display. At the end of the day, it’s all personal preference.

I probably biased because I am only have pen tablet. So I do not recommend pen tablet, because your art will decrease and and you will feel unmotivated!
Go for display if you can, you can always buy the pen tablet later since it’s cheaper

for some reason, my art improved drastically after i got a tablet that doesn't have a display versus drawing directly on my other tablet. i think it's because for the first time, i can see the entire canvas on a much bigger screen, and i can finally sit comfortably while drawing so i dont feel any strain on my neck and back. my drawing is a lot quicker now as if i were drawing traditionally

based on my experience between a pen display and a tablet. I agree graphic tablet is better because I was able to last longer working on my art. And I noticed these days professionals recommend tablets which I figured. I know some are willing to keep a monitor close to your face but for me I feel irritated and i gotta say heads up to those who can last longer but I prefer to keep the distance between my eyes and display. You can use an arm desk but I'm fussy with extra movements. All in all, you wanna feel comfy with arms and back and eyes relaxed with long hours of art work = Graphic Tablet, need close up details you need to fix = Graphic Display. The only time I use a graphic display is when I am traveling or at work I draw on my ipad pro with clip studio. I am planning to get the ipad mini 2021 instead for more portability.

The only ups and downs mentioned here are the obvious - price, and the fact that you need to connect/not connect it to your computer. There's nothing about what it's like to draw on them, the texture of the pen tablet vs the glass display, the fact that the display forces your hand to block some of the image, the ergonomics of drawing on a display vs a tablet, and so on.

You can start with a shitty screen of your laptop, and then upgrade to $1000 display . Also you dont have to do cable management, you will need only 1 usb cable or even just a Bluetooth

    •  2 роки тому +3

pen display is not a professional tablet, it is for noobs, no control, the hand is in front of the details you work so you block your details work, and you have to be carefull, its is no portable, lack of controls like ressistant wheels, a good wheel you can find it in the pen tablets pro, in pen tablets you can have more speed than pen display... Pen display is for people that draw awful, and likes manga hentai and god knows what else, i do prefer pen table for zbrush, 3d max, krita or painter. the pc monitor is more bigger than a pen display, and if you work 8 or 10 hours a day, you will lose your vission sooner or late, myopia!. your back is gona be hurt a big, and your entire carrer does not takes 5 years, if you are a pro, you do your job for years, i mean, 20, 30 years, just imagine that with a pen display.

I’d say professionally a pen display or a graphics tablet are mostly the only option, as you said, because of the software. As a hobby, I’d say a tablet is better as you can use it to reproduce films, play games, etc.
Some argue that graphics tablets are even better than pen displays because with pen displays you tend to force your back into bad postures. I’ve never had one so i cant really tell, but i think we tend to do the same thing while drawing on paper. In summary, your back with pen displays: / . With graphics tablets: | .

In my experience; unless you also have issues with the hand eye coordination of the mouse, or think the display will provide a better color monitor than your main one - the only thing you are buying with a display vs a tablet with the extra hundreds of dollars is skipping adjustment period.
In other words, one does not confer long term advantage over the other - maybe for your neck, but then align your monitor. It is not like mouse vs pen - where one provides a definitive advantage with pressure control over the other.

Pen displays look really nice and intuitive to work with....but I'm also suspicious about how long they'll perform, compared to graphics tablets. Also, on "touch sensitive" tablets, do you ever accidentally cause input with your hands brushing across the surface?

    • @teohontech7141

For computer you need HDMI and the two USB, or USB C with a USB C port that can output video signal

i switched from a display tablet to a graphic tablet. But I still cant get used to it even after a week. Is this normal?

    • @Fairygoblet
      @Fairygoblet 2 роки тому +1

I don't know whether it's a normal or not. I have problems with my hands so I wasn't getting used to it no matter what I did. Then, after a very very very long break, I tried to pick it up again and I saw a tip to put a piece of paper over the Tablet Surface. All of a sudden, my hand and my eyes synced up perfectly despite being in completely different places. You should try it if that's the kind of thing you're dealing with.

@@Fairygoblet Thanks for the tip! I might try the paper thing as well. I haven't tried a tablet with a screen yet, but I don't feel like I've been doing very good without one.

It's been more than 6 months i bought a graphic tablet.... my art is really bad literally with the graphic tablet
My traditional art is soooo much better like everything. I just can't get used to be drawing and not seeing what I draw. Rn i am thinking of buying ipad or display tablet. The posture is still bad using the graphic tablet because you are looking at the screen, and it does not stop your back from bending

You guys are just trying to comfort yourselves that you didn't choose wrong going with a graphics tablet, nothing is much faster and better than drawing on a screen tablet where you see exactly where the pen is going and you don't carry any extras with you coz its a stand alone system. Just accept even sweating thats common with screen tablets, you can by a glove to resolve that, screen tablets are just much better and much much faster.

i have XP-Pen G430s pen tablet since 3 years ago, but i think it was too small for me and uncomfortable when zooming a lot and sometimes my pen was lagged when using Photoshop
so i'm planning to get another device, but i'm still beginner...
should i choose ipad or buying pen tablet with android support? (tbh i'm finding a good phone too because my old phone is lagging and slow, but my budget is around $520 so i'm confused to choose what i need now hehehe)

pen display is not a professional tablet, it is for noobs, no control, the hand is in front of the details you work so you block your details work, and you have to be carefull, its is no portable, lack of controls like ressistant wheels, a good wheel you can find it in the pen tablets pro, in pen tablets you can have more speed than pen display... Pen display is for people that draw awful, and likes manga hentai and god knows what else, i do prefer pen table for zbrush, 3d max, krita or painter. the pc monitor is more bigger than a pen display, and if you work 8 or 10 hours a day, you will lose your vission sooner or late, myopia!. your back is gona be hurt a big, and your entire carrer does not takes 5 years, if you are a pro, you do your job for years, i mean, 20, 30 years, just imagine that with a pen display.

based on my experience between a pen display and a tablet. I agree graphic tablet is better because I was able to last longer working on my art. And I noticed these days professionals recommend tablets.

You do know pen tablets are like drawing on paper right? So the hand being in the way, posture etc., are the same exact things you deal with drawing on paper which has been done for eternity by the best artists to exist. So you're logic makes absolutely no sense as far as "blocking details with your hand"
