Brilliant tutorial 🙂 I'm currently working on a quilt for the end of my bed using a mix of 2.5" and 5" QAYG squares. My machine is also a bit temperamental on the corners, I raise the foot slightly as I machine the corners and it seems to helps.
Did you ever make the half square triangle video? I would love to see it! And, if using the 5” squares for the inside, how big of strips do you need for the outside squares? Thank you. These templates are a great idea! I have the octagon ones! 🌷
Hi Lisa, thank you for your comment, as you might of seen I have had a few comments the same and I will do things differently next time, the other video I filmed shortly after this I have already ditched :( because of this reason. Please bear with as I am learning all the time. Nicola XXX
Your machine is asking you to level up your presser foot. You can do this by putting several layers of scrap material to the back side of the presser foot, and your stitches will look much nicer.
Thanks Sarah, I was so excited about making my new quilt I just used what I was doing OOPPs . But there is another video coming and I will do it differently. Nicola XXX
I know it will take awhile to get the 2 1/2" square template I ordered, but I would really like to see the half square triangle video while I am waiting. Please, pretty please.
I love watching your videos! Im currently working with your 2.5" hexagon set making a quilt sewing by hand. I love it! Are the squares available in the USA?
Nicola are you Miranda's sister or cousin? Doesn't matter love you both!!! Bare with....doorbell! Back now. I just discovered your channel through Missouri Quilt and just ordered Hexigon 3 sizes templates, 2 1/2 and half hexi and jewelry pkg Love your work and you tube I am from Michigan. USA See you later!!!!😊 . . .. . I
I've got a lovely set of 5 inch charm squares I'd like to try with this template - can you confirm which size I need to buy please? I'd love to make the half squares too, please can we see a video? Your stall was amazing at the Stich Show at Alexandra Palace!
Thank you, a 5" charm square can either be the center of the 5" square or the backing of the 3" square (with a tiny bit of a trim), there are full instructions on the half square triangles in the instructions but I will try and get round to doing a half square video. XXX
hello from hamburg, germany, where the hamburgers come from :-) I am looking for your templates in germany but cant find a dealer that has the ones i want... what can i do? Shipping from uk is so expensive...
Nice concept, but feel you left out a vital tutorial on how you sew all these squares together. I also use ‘magic pins’, their called glass head pins and cost a quarter of these expensive silicate head pins.
I think you use the full square and cut them in half. Missouri Star quilts have them online in the US. Along with the batting already cut to size, too.
80/20 quilters wadding is best, you can use up all your offcuts from make traditional quilts, you don't want anything with a high loft(thickness) as it makes folding the bindings difficult.
I agree a contrasting fabric would've been better. I didn't really see this being a tutorial as much as just an advertisement for her templates. Maybe she'll do a better one showing how to piece them together. Though - maybe Jenny at MSQ will do one if she is going to carry the templates. Her videos are always very thorough.
Yes I agree, I didn't really get this one right, I was working on my next quilt and was just so excited just used that, I will however do another video with better contrast. Nicola x
@@sadiejosiemom , I'm so sorry that you thought it was just a plug and not very useful, I was concerned that I just didn't want to keep repeating myself as I have done tutorials on joining the templates before. I am about to make another tutorial and I will take on board all the comments and hopefully do better.XXX
Nicola, thank you for responding. I’m excited for a new template, I made a quilt by hand with the hexagon template. I was surprised that the binding had square corners on the new template, do you think there would be a way to mitre them? Cheers!
@@lilliannecahoon4822 yes you can mitre them I'm going to be showing you that on the Half Square Triangle video, but I need to redo that video, the one I have done is similar colouring to this and I don't want to make the same mistake twice, that one is being binned. Back to the drawing board and watch this space. Xxx😀
Hi Nicola, my little tip, put a piece of material what has wadding in it, and place behind the foot on the corners to lift up the back of the foot xx
Bit of an update, I actually put one of my small rulers behind the foot… worked wondered lol
Hi Nicola, I have just started making you hexagon quilt, I love it all William Morris autumn colours. 😊❤
This is a game changer Nichola, thank you
Thank you Diana XX
I’m doing a quilt using the 5 and 2 1/2 inch square templates, love using them as you don’t have to do a sandwich on a big quilt.
Thanks Athena, I'm so glad you are enjoying them XXX

I’m just learning and really loved this tutorial. Thankyou so much . I’m so excited to find you are here in the Uk 🥰👏🏼🥰

Really should do demos with different colored fabric. Can’t see much on this demo with it being all white :(

Love your clear demonstrations Nicola. I'm hoping there will be a set of these templates under my tree this year.
Thank you for putting them on your Christmas list!! Hopefully Santa has paid attention. Thank you for watching. Nicola XXX

Contrasting fabric and thread colors would be much easier to see during your demonstration.

Love these! Hope I can get these in the US. I have your other templates and love them!

Will you be showing how to put these blocks together? Awesome technique! Thanks
Zig zag together. Did you see MSQC have triple play on the hexies- same technique I’d say
I love watching your videos! Im currently working with your 2.5" hexagon set making a quilt sewing by hand.

Yes they are available Annette X
MSQC
Yep my Janome is the same Extremely annoying it just keeps sewing in the one spot on corners and they don’t even have to be really thick corners
Lovely... Are you partnering with Missouri Star Quilt again for templates again
Watch this space Beverly xxx

I buy machine *needles in bulk* because of the frequency at which I break them. Thankfully I never damaged the machine itself, though.

Don't worry there are more tutorials coming. x
There is only 2 1/2" square template available. Will it show how to do half square triangles on this size?
Did you show your square templates to Jenny from Missouri Star?? She will fall in love with them!! And me it’s already done!
Thank you Claudette, Jenny may have seen them :) xxx
Jenny has a video on them now. Triple play !
Where can I buy the half square templates, I am in the United States
I think you use the full square and cut them in half.
Missouri Star quilts have them online in the US. Along with the batting already cut to size, too.
How do you join them together?
i need a 4" sq
Can you do a mitered corner with this?
Yes, you can do mitered corners, details are included in the instruction leaflet with the squares templates.
Do you use any particular type of wadding ?
80/20 quilters wadding is best, you can use up all your offcuts from make traditional quilts, you don't want anything with a high loft(thickness) as it makes folding the bindings difficult.
Hard to see on the white fabric.
