    On this channel, I like to cover games that have failed, games that have died, nostalgic stuff, and games that are awesome. In today's video, I revisit some old Minecraft Xbox 360 worlds and take a trip down memory lane to determine why Minecraft doesn't feel fun anymore

      I only ever got the game for our ps3 when I agreed to having my dad pull on of my very lose teeth out. I was always super afraid of someone yanking a tooth out of my mouth. I still have the ps3 and all the words on it. It’s crazy to remember the stuff you did with your friends as massive projects and cool designs. I never played online so when my cousins, friends, or other people came over are largest priority was to play Minecraft. We would play for hours and have to take turns because we only had 3 controllers, (eventually we got a 4th one.) in all actuality when O load up one of the worlds there really isn’t crazy stuff, I just imagine it being that way.
      A few things we did are crazy, like a theme park and video studio. They are just massive plain walks or paths of cobble but they are still impressive for minds of 8 year olds.
      We often built stuff in creative and then played in survival because we where all scared of everything. Even in peaceful.

    If this helps anyone: I figured that playing in a singleplayer world gets stale really really quickly. I tried to start three whole new worlds in singleplayer only to almost immediately lose motivation to play them. Instead, I went online and tried to find a survival server with not too many people on. This is how I spent my life in 2012 and 2013, I would join little communities and play on those servers all the time and it was always extremely fun. This time was no different. I barely even see other players on the server because its survival and I'm busy working on my own base and resources, but just knowing that there's other people on makes all the difference. It takes all the loneliness away.

We all share the same feelings in Minecraft we all did the same thing but in a different way your last block that you break or place maybe the first break or place for a new player. From personal experience after being on countless realms and servers the best thing to do in modern minecraft is try to come up with build ideas, just anything, it can be super ambitious group projects where you can have fun making something with your friends or something ABSOLUTELY mind-blowing that you may never build but it helps keep your motivation high, I am on a realm now that has been going for 4-5 months now and its great, we take breaks from it but i still love it so much, i have netherite tools and armour but its only because it makes building easier and i still havent beat the game, its all about how you go about playing, exploring is still fun, building is amazing and satisfying and its why its the best game ever made.

I have been having a hard time with women and stuff like he was saying and just recently my best friend and I made a SSP world and we have not even made a mine yet in almost 2 weeks which is just crazy considering how we should have a while ago. But I think we all need to play the game like that. Dream and all of the new guys have commercialized the game and now it's not fun just like Christmas is sometimes. The game and life it seems was so simple when playing with your friend like he said and experimenting with block and pallets of block was the most fun thing you could do. DanTDM saved my spare hours when I wasn't at home able to play Minecraft. And in total this game should go down in history books as the greatest idea to ever be created. I would just like to thank the community and develoer who have made this game (and my life) what it is today.

      For me its weird, that this guy still tries to play the single player minecraft and enjoy it, when it was only fun from 2010 to 2016, when its not that your anymore elementary school kid who is experiencing these things for first time, when it was exciting and fun as child, when you exeprienced them for first time and so how you think your going to get fun out of it again, if you have already experienced it a lot in early 2010s, when you aint the happy child anymore experiencing it for first time with new things. After experiencing single player and beating the game in normal and hardcore mode and getting used to the game. The next step would be to go in multiplayer and play diffrent fun modes, when you already know how to play the game and so there you can play hunger games, skywars or other diffrent group game modes with pvp, unitil you have had enough of it and so then you can move to other videogames, so for me its sad this guy try to experience minecraft like its new game to him, when he cant, when he aint the little kid anymore and has played the game so much by now, that it does not feel new or exciting, so its sad that this guy tries even that in his early 20s, when im not that stupid try it, when in early 20s competitive games with guns are more fun to you, than playing minecraft, because you aint the 7 year old child anymore experincing it for the first time.

    Damn the reason I’m watching this is because I’ve recently been hit hard by this awful feeling of deep sadness whenever I’m trying to play the game. There was this really fun period of about 2 years where my friends and I got really, really good at the game and played every day after seeing each other at school. We made castles and villages, and massive mountain ranges behind them. But eventually I had a falling out with one of my friends and my other friends moved away. I think it’s so sad that I’m not going to be able to play with them again like I did before, but I’m still trying to enjoy Minecraft as I get older instead of becoming one of those kids who thinks theyre too old for it. I just wish I could get that same feeling as before instead of everything feeling overused, depressing and tainted.

    I started a minecraft world with my cousins who are a similar age to me, but they're a certain bit younger that makes their year group seem so different to mine. I'm 16 and theyre 12-14. We started the world after a few days of fantasizing about how amazing and huge this world will be and how it'll just be like the old days of minecraft from when we were little. Me and my eldest cousin started by building a house, taking a lot of time on it to make it look pretty while my brother and my youngest cousin had already gotten full netherite armour and found a stronghold. I'm not sure why i got so disappointed but it aggrivated me that all they cared about was finishing the game, not actually "playing" it. It just makes me feel sad that although they are only 3-4 years younger than me, their view of minecraft has been completely changed from ours who played minecraft from the start, and this video completely encapsulates my feelings about this ;-;

    Oh my gods. I... I have no words. This video is EVERYTHING I've been searching for. The reason for the change, the underlying cause, the lessons, the answers, the experiences, everything. This video is a gift to fellow nostalgic Minecraft players like me who are endlessly and desperately searching for a way to relive the Golden Days of our inexperienced Minecraft beginnings.
    I've been trying to revive my early experiences with this incredible game for a couple of years now, but no matter how hard I tried, I could never find the right way to do things. I've tried to resurrect the old days of Minecraft (at least my perception of those days) through resource packs, searching for nostalgic seeds (don't try it, it never works), and so many other things. But thanks to this video, I finally know that the solution really is as simple as hitting the brakes and getting off of the roller coaster. Stopping to smell the roses, to look and wander around. To explore, to experiment, to not set goals. To play the game YOUR way, instead of trying to accomplish everything as soon as you can. Only then, when you take some time to set down and play in the sandbox for a while, will you be able to truly rediscover the simplistic beauty of Minecraft.
    Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

      For me the endlessly and desperate search to relive the "golden days" isnt exclusive to just minecraft. I been trying for many years now to get the same feeling of excitement and wonder i had back then in the form of trying to re play past games including minecraft, play new titles with the bois (or at least i try to), or even things outside of gaming. At the end of the day all i can think of is, "its just not the same", its honestly really saddening and then i get super nostalgic all over again then the cycle continues.

After watching this video I realized that I've never been bad at the game, because you can't be bad at minecraft. My friends were beating the ender dragon, getting good gear and doing other things very quickly, which made me question if I even knew how to play the game "correctly". I still remember 2017, those beautiful worlds and those fantastic friends who accompanied you on every adventure, but when I look at the Minecraft main menu I feel so ... empty, bored, sad, with no source of fun. Let me tell you a story. My name is Liam and I'm a guy who likes video games. I once had a group, "I.G.D.M.A", and we played happily at many games (Rec Room, Minecraft, Destiny 2, Etc.), but the one we played the most was minecraft, a masterpiece that made me learn and overcome many situations in my life, but in 2020 something happened ... our group began to die and no players entered the parties or played with us, we organized events and other things but the group was now lost. Sometimes we got raids from old members of the group and I was very sad, now I'm 15 and when I take my controller I can feel the nostalgia, the old worlds and the old friends ... but when I enter the parties I always want to turn off because now ... Minecraft has changed.

      I feel the same. Your story is amazing btw! Lemme tell you my story: I started playing Minecraft back in 2016 I was 6 years old. The first time I entered the game it was amazing. The music, the atmosphere, and everything. It was amazing. I used to use my dads account and play with some random kids that I barely knew. It was amazing. Me and my brother had bonded so much and had so many memories from the game. Some were hilarious, some were crazy, but it was always fun in the end. One day, my dad got me and my brother a Nintendo switch. It was cool!!! It was the nether update and I liked it for a while but then I realized… something was wrong. The Minecraft world seemed so dry… so weird. After a few more years of playing it got more boring, gradually. I hated how they changed all the textures, and how they kept added new mobs( they are very cool but why?) and they made things too realistic! Minecraft was supposed to be a game of imagination, fantasy and freedom. An escape from reality. Now Minecraft IS like reality. I miss when it was simpler. I dunno if you like the old or new Minecraft more but it doesn’t matter bc it’s still Minecraft but they totally changed the vibe of Minecraft and I just Don’t know fully how? I’m 13 and played for 7 years, I still like it but I want to make fun memories that feel fun and epic and different like the old days idk why it feels so different in Minecraft…

    A little late to the party but what ever, I find my most interesting ordeal I had with Minecraft was during about around 2012 or 2013. I played Minecraft on the Xbox 360 almost every day after school. Threw out that time, I made a good friend threw that I met on a server game. She and I slowly became friends and played a lot together on survival mode and the server we frequented. I even befriended her younger brother as he joined up in our games. However, after a few months of gaming, one day for an unknown reason, I found my account was completely gone, I don't even remember why this happened, but all I know is that I begrudgingly had to figure out ow to make myself a new account as my parents helped with my first one. I was never able to find my friend ever again after that, and all my motivation to play any online games seemingly died along with that account. Now days I'm over it and now have no worries of sabotaged accounts. but when ever I go back into playing Minecraft, I always wonder how My old friend is doing. Does she sometimes wonder where I went, or has she completely forgotten about me. Who knows, but as OP said in his video "life is complicated."

      That's so sad and heart crushing tbh I remember the same, as an older gen, that happening to many of my pokemon games. I'm grateful that MC java allows hard digital backups as well as cloud backups through realms though I don't think many console versions allow it the same as PC does. If it didn't, I probably wouldn't even play because I know the feeling of working many years on one game (Pokemon Crystal/Ruby/diamond/X) and then all of a sudden lovely Nintendo deciding to make all of it obsolete - untransferable. Not even an attempt to keep any of my pokemon alive from my childhood. I felt betrayed and couldn't even when I thought about getting something new from them because after that I just thought "Why Bother" they'll make it obsolete in 5 years. Minecraft is a very different play experience but time and energy put in are the same. The fact we can play almost any version on java and knowing they've been keeping the worlds alive for years is something I look for in a game, and probably why I didn't start playing until the past year. I don't know any other game like that right now. Every other one especially console games will become obsolete and unplayable if the console so chooses it. And you know.... Just because it's gone/aka digitally dead at least we still have our memories of them and it is possible to keep those memories alive by recreating. I think about the one day if we do have some kind of worldwide magnetic wipe and we lose everything... the equivalent to a housefire for those who journal on paper. I think - would I still do this? And the answer is yes. I'm here to be and experience and love what I am doing not to hold on to everything.

When you begin playing as kid, you don't really care about speedrunning, stat maxing, or perfecting the game, you are just trying to have fun after a long day of school or during the summer when you have no responsibilities. When we replay games when we are older, we try to copy some of the repetitiveness and be efficient because we are used to that but it just detracts from the experience.

    It's strange, I remember always feeling relaxed and unconcerned with time when I was playing Minecraft way back when, and I always feel rushed playing the game today. I thought it was just the circumstances of the time, but I went back and played old beta Minecraft, and it was just as relaxing as I remember it being. Old Minecraft feels like it was made for the experience, and modern minecraft feels like it was made for the end goals. When I play current minecraft, I always feel rushed to complete projects and reach certain points in the game, whereas whenever I play old Minecraft, I feel like I enjoy the whole experience, and I'm not sure why.

    • @carrot7868
      @carrot7868 Рік тому +45

      Perhaps it's because of associations? You associate old minecraft with relaxation, while the new one with completing a goal. It could also be because the old versions didn't have a goal to begin with - it was a sanbox, there wasn't really much in it - so you kinda had to get your own way to have fun. The new version, hovewer, is a lot more flashed out. But with that it also aquiares a purpose - and with a purpose it might feel like the creativity is limited. New or old - I'm glad you get to enjoy the game :) This comment section make me realise that I don't have to do anything in Minecraft, there's no need for a purpose or conclusion. • @NorthEevee
    @NorthEevee Рік тому +172

    About half a year back I got to relive the old days of playing Minecraft with friends and strangers. At least, as close as you can get. I was going to join server which was about to launch with about 100 people. Before it went live, a lot of us went into little 'factions' and I joined one that was jokingly themed around Kanye West. Launch night happened, everyone got on and we all gathered around one spot before we headed out on our pilgrimage to our now homes. We went across oceans and rivers until we found a sizable valley snugly fitted between two mountains. We camped there overnight but before we really settled down someone found a village not too far from there. One by one we made our way there and settled(well, more like conquered) the land.
    I build a crawlspace house, whilst others made their own houses or took an existing one by force. We had one person living in the church and we jokingly told the guy to hold a service in the name of Kanye, so the guy went to work painstakingly copying The Book of Genesis and replacing every mention of 'God' with 'Kanye'.
    After about a day or two the server owners decided to open up the Nether for all of us, and we went out and explored. I made a lot of beds as I wanted to be the first one to find Netherite, but unfortunately someone else from a different group beat me to it. I was however, the first one to get a full set of Netherite armour a day later.
    After I got my gear I found out you could not only lock chests, but also furnaces and even crafting tables. So, obviously I made a large tower with a water elevator that would entrap anyone that got in. To lure people in, I shoddy wrote "FREE DIAMON. UP TEH TOWR. TOTALY FRE". I knew that people weren't going to fall for it, but with that many deliberate typos anyone would want to see what really was on top. There was nothing. Well, there was drowning. But I was kind enough to make a ladder at the back so people could get their stuff back.
    We later expanded our town from the damp swamp we had claimed, and erected great manors on the hilltop above. This kind of created a divide in architecture, so we decided to call the lower section "The poor district". I lived there, happily. I even made a nice basement beneath my house.
    Eventually the time came to defeat the Ender Dragon. This was a major event. The server was as populated as when it launched and there were many proxy fails to be found. But then, the Ender Portal was active, and we all jumped in. Frantically, about a hundred players rushed to kill the dragon. And we all did it. But then came the rush for the egg. We the Kanyes had made a pact with one of our allies - The Pirates(They had an amazing base with a pirate cove, including skull. Absolute legends) - to not let the third major faction take the egg. After the scurry, one of the Pirates managed to get the egg. All of us Kanyes got to hold it for the achievement, and we did bully the third faction for not having it.
    After we did all there was to do, I undertook a few megaprojects. I made an underground ice highways that lead to spawn. We didn't want any randoms getting to our place through the Nether so that was the fastest way I could get there. My second mega project was the 'Great Wall of Kanye'. A large deepslate wall that went on for quite a while.
    The last thing I build was a floating pixelart mural of an Eevee, right above my house. I had a lot of great memories on that server. And even though it's been shut down, all of us Kanyes are still in our Discord server, waiting for the day it'll open again.
    So yeah, that's the story I wanted to share with you lads. Those were a great three weeks we spend together. It was an absolute blast. And if any Kanyes ever come across this comment I left here, I'd like to ask you a question, for old times sake: 'Kanye slapen?'

    This video made me sad for a different reason: I only just got into the game last year for a few months and picked it up again a couple weeks ago. I haven't really made all that many memories with other people. So I'm sad I missed out on that, as pretty much none of my friends want to or have the time to play it with me. But something I'm grateful for from this video is that I have been going my own way. When I stream the game, people hammer me to "make this, make that, get the Ender Pearls," etc. But I just want to run around, mine, and if I have a creative spark, try and make a cool-looking house. Or add to my ever-growing chicken collection. Connect my houses together through underground tunnels. I have no interest in that progression. I just want to chill. I never play on anything but Peaceful difficulty and people get after me for that, too. When I'm using the wrong tool for something, people get mad.
    But the point is that I'm making my own mistakes, I'm going my own way. So watching this video and hearing that people have lost sight of that mentality makes me both sad for them but happy that I'm still in that period! It makes me more grateful and has inspired me to continue doing it. I've also only been working on this one single world. I've spent about 7 days of real time in it... I only just found out recently that some people tend to move onto a new world pretty quickly, but I have never had that desire.

    My goodness, as a 16-year-old who still has played the game since 2011, personally, this hits harder than those who first played the game at 11-13 years old or middle school age, because I played it at 5 and literally grew up with it, Minecraft being a part of my foundational memories. I don't know how to put it in words but this struck a deeply hidden nerve and finally surfaced it. A good point in the video: our perception of time has changed drastically. No longer do we possess that carefree attitude and hunger for knowledge, the burning curiosity that kindled most of our enthusiasm! Now with all the increased burdens that come with growing up, we can no longer have that perception of life that way because we must keep moving forward. The linear process of the race to finish the next task, that attitude bears a similar approach to that of studying in high school and college, because time has become a precious commodity. What I think is that drive and passion to gain more knowledge, our ignorance in life and Minecraft, the desire to learn more, the EXPERIENCE and the JOURNEY that we took is by far the most valuable thing that all of us could've taken away from it. Alas, no longer can we bear that same relaxed attitude of that in a 4th-grade relaxed primary school classroom, the freedom and the feeling of time being slower back then, therefore granting us seemingly endless time to play Minecraft and do what we love. Maturing is also a big part of it, now that we are all more knowledgable our desire for the unknown has greatly depreciated. I think its important to let go; one era has passed, and the next is to come. One day, I'm certain of it, we will look back on a day like this and yearn for it as much as we missed our young childhood of playing Minecraft.

When I tried it out I realized why Minecraft was so boring. It was its iconic terrain generation and textures. In the pursuit of realistic terrain, Mojang got rid of Minecraft's identity of the surreal worlds we all used to play in. Back in the days before the terrain was changed, all I could do was look at the beautiful mountains, floating islands, and lush forests. I was a child back then. Now I'm 20, married, and my wife is 2 months pregnant, and I realized how much we took it all for granted and how much fun I was having with the old terrain. Seriously you should check it out

I realized a major reason why this was a big factor for me when I was a kid when I tried playing the first official release that they have available on the launcher. It still scared the living crap out of me at 19 years old , And I think I realized it’s because back then, they didn’t really do the whole like audio thing I don’t know what it’s called but basically they now have it so you can hear how far away or approximately where a monster is at any given time. Going into this I thought it was going to talk about the updates, but it hit home with the feeling of playing the game for over a decade. I'm one of those people that play slow and take my time in the game, but everyone else rushes though it. Now as I play more games with my friend group I get that feeling of wonder I had when I first discovered the community years ago. Hopefully one day that feeling will come back to the blocky world of Minecraft again, even if it means stepping away for a time

    It’s funny because yes as we get older things don’t always have that feeling, but one thing I appreciate about Minecraft is how it never really lost its identity after all these years. We get older, but I’m sure to new players it’s just as good - I’m happy Microsoft didn’t butcher the spirit of the game.

    I love that longing feeling, its my favorite one. I recently discovered that there's a whole cultural philosophy around that feeling in japan, they call it "mono no aware" (empathy for the ephemeral). In hindsight, they do actually use it in everything, all tv dramas, mangas and animes, videogames...
    As I've doscovered, it's difficult to distinguish your own normal nostalgia from mono no aware, but whenever you feel that weird sensation of "borrowed nostalgia" from someone else's experience, that is always and clearly mono no aware.

    It's funny, seeing these types of videos cropping up over the past few months and it really made me wanna go back, dust off my old 360 and boot up my minecraft world I had with my cousin, and our friends. It's.... amazing to see how everything was frozen in time, nothing changed and you can indeed remember most things but forget the context of them. I went through so many of my worlds before finding myself on a special one we all made at the end of Middleschool while we're all in 8th grade or somewhere around there. It was a world we worked on for 3 years before we all graduated Highschool and moved onto PC, not really touching minecraft from that point on outside of maybe Hypixel or whatever. After returning to that world, it was an emotional trip seeing the names of everyone on the house. Tac0, Feral Wolf (My name at the time), Jman, Tremax and so on, only to see the mansion our best builder on the server made, owned by our good friend Jaykay. Sadly, we last him during Covid and seeing his Mansion still there, doors still open and Wolf sitting by his door inside of it nearly had me breaking down in tears realizing the fact he's physically gone forever but as long as my 360 Hardrive was functional, his work and memory remains intact. Hell, most of our main villages doors were still open so I spent awhile going through the homes and seeing what we had done though made sure not to disturb anything, closing each door one by one, knowing they'd never be opened again and finishing off with Jaykays. Is it corny? Cheesey? Yeah, yeah it really was but I'm a sentimental dude. Minecraft is indeed a timecapsule, one that hurts to open up, it reminds us all of a time where we had no adult responsibilities to worry about, lived with our family and just went to school. Now? Most of us are in our Early to late 20s, maybe even 30s. Stressed, depressed, worrying day in and day out about our futures never to find these times again where we can just... Chill, build and get together and create memories. I'm 24 now, trying my hardest to make something of myself with Twitch, failed with youtube and stressing about my future. I miss being a kid, I miss minecraft....

      Hey man, you can never really fail UA-cam. Sometimes it's hard but seeing it as a hobby may be what you need to get it back up and going again and you never know you might be surprised by the outcome. As a 17 year old trying to make the most out of my miserable time in the education system in the UK I urge you to find something that makes you truly happy. I'm always thinking of the things I hope to be able to accomplish in my life and it's never too late to do so. It's also never too late to kick it in reverse and take a completely new route. however, this may be hard for some people obviously I'm not aware of your circumstances. Just remember that you're not confined to the things you can currently see and things that may seem out of reach may only be a decision away.

    My favorite games of all time are Minecraft and Terraria. I remember building huge roller coasters with my sister and not caring about the ender dragon. I knew it was there, but there was no point. I miss those simplistic times of building and learning about the world of Minecraft. Recently I started playing Terraria with another really good feeling of learning, exploring, and getting my character stronger. There was so much time to do something in between bosses with my friend, and that's what made it so fun. When we started another playthrough, we just rushed to the next boss without spending time to do stuff, also we knew everything about the game. My first playthrough was 80 hours and my second was only 19. The difference between them was very large. I miss when I could start a game and enjoy myself and relax, but also have that boost of adrenaline when something exciting happens. This video really got me thinking and I really enjoyed it.

But I like the idea of having the time capsule you spoke of. By that I just mean revisiting old worlds and seeing what went on. My main world now in game I’ve been playing for a few years and it has a lot of history to it. On top of everything in this video (which is explained amazingly), I feel like the versions of Minecraft have been getting more and more ambitious since 1.15 to the point where Mojang has been delaying and removing feature that were supposed to be in the game in an update. Sure there's a lot of stuff in the game now, but it doesn't feel as simple or as fun since there's so much to do and so little at the same time. Along with having so much in the game, it also makes all of the original mods for the game that would add crazy mobs and dimensions feel not like mods since the game itself feels like a giant mod of the original game. It was great when an update happened and it brought a new biome or two, or something like the elytra or new blocks, but it was still a small update that didn't really change the game, but with stuff like 1.16-1.19, it really changed the game with giant new world gen, op new armor, new enchants, a load of new achievements, a lot of new mobs, a boss, and some 'lore'. If you look back on it, four or five updates in the original Minecraft adding blocks in one update, mobs in another update, and biomes in another, all of those singular updates are now packed into one update each version and it's really crowded. I'm not saying that these new updates are bad, it's just that it pretty much a new game living in an older games skin and it feels weird.
