I came across this video on accident and this is probably the finest Minecraft documentary I have ever seen. It was so well researched and explained. Some may say that you missed or left out something but I could tell it wasn't the point to get every single detail of its history in this video. It for me personally expressed the significance of the game and how it was a place just to relax, build, and have a god time with friends. It is an important Journey to know especially since its been a part of my childhood ever since my friends forced me to play the Xbox 360 edition when it first came out. I really am thankful for you making this video it brought back a lot of memories and made me remember the journey Minecraft has given me and all of my friends. I'm glad to be your newest sub.

Minecraft is that game we remembered playing as a kid and being really good, and when you return, you get the same feeling. Unlike some games that have horrible graphics and are only kept alive and good in our hearts by nostalgia alone.
Same here, having started playing when i got into programming (probably what got me into programming too), it really is something special to me and probably more with a similar story.
I was so shocked to learn that the name for the groups of heroes in Minecraft fckin story mode was a reference to one of the original names for Minecraft.
Kurogane -sensei: If anything, Minecraft will be on a rollercoaster course with continuous falls and rises as time goes on. I saw from another comment someone was taking about how the game will fall when the current generation of kids grow up and then rise again when those kids (now adults) start playing the game with their own kids. The cycle would then repeat. I’m a part of that current generation of kids that will continue the trend with my own kids (when that time comes of course, I’m only 18 and having kids is not on my radar at the moment.)
2009-2011: “The Phantom Menace”; Minecraft is new. It builds up a small, but wholesome community. It has no influence on pop culture, but it’s growing. 2012-2015: “Attack of the Clones”; Minecraft in its prime. EVERYONE is playing Minecraft. Tons of UA-camrs such as Stampy, Dantdm, PopularMMOS, Tobuscus, etc. 2016: “Revenge of the Sith”; Minecraft begins to decline. UA-camrs leaving Minecraft was like Order 66, and Minecraft has lots of drama in its community. Eventually Minecraft ends up declining in popularity and dies. Late 2017: “A New Hope”; The Update Aquatic is revealed, and seems to be a promising update. This update serves as a “New Hope” for Minecraft. Could Minecraft possibly return? 2018: “The Empire Strikes Back”; Fortnite builds an “Empire” that nearly destroys all chances of Minecraft returning. Lots of Minecraft players that had been playing during the dark ages quit and start to play fortnite. Things are looking grim for Minecraft’s revival. 2019: “Return of the Jedi”; Minecraft’s return. Popular UA-camrs that quit in 2016 return. Fortnite’s “Empire” collapses, and Minecraft takes the crown. New UA-camrs such as Skeppy, Dream, Technoblade, and Wadzee emerge as well.
And that is only a few years away, and hopefully, Minecraft will have such an impact on the next generation, and they will keep it alive and maybe, make it the 100 year game
I think one key aspect of the resurgence you missed is that now, after the resurgence Minecraft isn't seen as cringy or as a kid's game. This has allowed for long-time UA-cam Minecraft servers to be an acceptable watch for all ages. The best example of this is Hermitcraft. Before the resurgence, Hermitcraft was popular with the core of the survival Minecraft community, but didn't really grow because anyone not in that community saw Minecraft as a cringy kids game. However, after the resurgence, it had grown massively because potential new audiences are not alienated by the social pressure of the game.
My big fear with the future of Hermitcraft is that Grian and Mumbo, the two largest hermits by a landslide, are proving to have a good chunk of their fanbase that is really immature. Its already starting to hurt their reputations to some extend and im worried is could seep into the rest of hermitcraft
I remember when the game wasn't even 5 years old, watching over the shoulder of someone who I considered a brother as he played the game. Were it not for him, I wouldn't have discovered the game until much later. I remember, being 12 or 13 at the time, telling him to watch out for that tree falling, or be careful about this normal oddity in the game. After he left, I remember moving to watching videos at the time, as I had moved to online homeschooling, and totally buying into the existence of Herobrine as a vanilla thing. I may not have played as much as many other people have, having played a bit on pc, and filled a harddrive with worlds on the old 360 in a year, but it holds a very special place in my heart. I plan to, eventually, express my interest in coding by making mods and tinkering around with stuff. Now an adult, watching this video tugged on some heartstrings for me. I'm definitely gonna go to sleep listening to the orchestral remixes.
Doesn't matter how deep a documentary goes in terms of Minecraft, Players like me know everything that's gonna be in it. That's how long I've been a member of this community. I didn't stop when my friends told me that "Minecraft is a kid's game". They just hated on it blindly. I introduced them to Minecraft and here they are, waiting impatiently for the Nether Update. I enjoyed this one. Just fills me with nostalgia.
I'm a fairly young Minecraft player. I began playing when I was around 7, and now I'm 13. I didn't stop playing Minecraft even when fortnite came around, and I won't stop playing it now. I'm barely a teenager, and even I understand how good of a game Minecraft is now. A seven year of and a 20 year old can pick up the game and love it. It's been six years since I started playing it.
aha that was me, i played mc few months ago because i was never able to (im 13). and i played with a friend. im thankful she didnt teach me or explain minecraft because i got to learn by myself. though i am sad i didnt have the same nostalgia was people who played since like 2011. still, im thankful
This isn't just a game, It's what raised so many people. It's what gave so many children, teens, and adults memories. In all these years, I never would leave the game for any other... When it started dipping, many people made fun of me for playing the game. This game will last forever and will come back even better than before.
Ngl, thats what got me to start playing for real, before then i had only tried PE years back. Philzas clip happened the same week my friends wanted to start a realm and I've been sweating in java since
If this is true, you will know the struggle of pe. We had no nether! Our world was only like, 250 blocks by 250 blocks. I feel like we never got any of the updates. It was also hawd to build things because you had to tap for every block.
@@mr.varietyguy2637 Yes. The struggle of pe was insane and you know I still remember that pe always had the cool features before java, like boats and the nether reactor core was only in pe
i still love pe to this day cause i was raised by that because it was wayyy cheaper and i remember playing life boat on it all the time and using a nether reactor core because we had no nether. and then getting boats and fish and being so excited
the guy who suggested the name "Minecraft: the order of the stone" must feel like a god rn, the game is literally the most popular game in the entire world and even the story mode used the name "order of the stone" in it
Anyone else remember playing when zombies were the only monster, you had no hunger bar, the world had borders, steve made that oof sound, there was a useless xp, and of course the nether reactor.
Honestly, I started playing Minecraft when it was released on PlayStation3 in like 2013? Cuz' my dad bought it and then, in like.. early 2017? I stopped playing it as I never had my dad there to play it with me. I never played it again until mid 2019, I finally got my sister to play Minecraft with me on the PS3. I never played Minecraft by myself, it was always with my dad, so when he started chemo I didn't dare touch Minecraft. When he died, it made me cry to think about playing video games with him. Proud to say, the way I've started coping and playing Minecraft by myself is carrying a book around in Minecraft that I named "Dad" with all my favourite things about him, all the jokes he would say, his habits and routines. All his little catch phrases and nicknames.. and even his favourite colours and sport teams. It's silly, yeah, but it's the best way to play. For me, at least. When I play online, like when I bought Java and Windows 10 on my laptop, I would usually just have my Dad's photo in my lap. It made me sad when Minecraft started losing popularity- it was my childhood. I'm glad it's getting popular again. I know what I said above is kinda unnecessary, but I have such a strong emotional attachment to this game as this game, and just video games in general, were how me and my dad bonded the most when he was around.
@@yahelix8482 ajbduws It's fine, we're getting over it slowly and at least I know he's somewhere playing video games and asking my cousin's if they're winning theirs.

i remember when i finally got minecraft and an xbox 360 for christmas back in 2011 after watching countless videos from captainsparklez stampylonghead and the yogscast and reminding my parents that i just want minecraft. when i saw the huge box underneath the tree i opened it and went straight to my room to assemble it. i remember the first thing i did was place jack'o'lanterns so i can see in a dark room in the old preset starter worlds back then. its been 9 and a half years of me playing minecraft and i still play it to this day on xbox one and pc, im 16 now. i cant express how much minecraft has made an impact in my life and im sincerely thankful to have lived my childhood the way i did. thank u for reading
basically lmao. it's just that what caused the downfall of minecraft (cringy kids and content saturation) started affecting other games as well, mostly fortnite so we all rushed back to minecraft lol
I think that there’s another reason why people came back to Minecraft that was sadly not touched on in this video. I think one of the other reasons was because of the 10th anniversary of the game coming up at the time. Which if you take notice the anniversary was right around the time that the game started to gain popularity again. People just heard randomly somewhere that hey, the tenth anniversary of your childhood favorite game is coming up, which made people go back to it.
i agree on that, also, Minecraft never really went away, during the "dark times" Minecraft videos still got millions of views, more views then other content, sure at the time most people weren't playing, but there was still a market for it
Thank you for making this video, it means a lot to me being a old Minecraft player. It reminds me of the times I would get on my old Minecraft server and just mess around with my friends at 3am. This is one of the greatest games ever created and will leave a mark on me for the rest of my life. Every day I think about this game and it makes me wonder what would my life be like if I never played Minecraft? Where would I be? I would give anything to play Minecraft for the first time again. This was very nostalgic for me and truly appreciate the video. Thanks.
5:28 - "Minecraft: Order of the Stone" Oh wow, they've already made the Minecraft Story Mode story beforehand. I see what they did there, and they gave us a history where that came from.
im glad he mentioned it because I've always thought SMPLive had a lot more to do with its resurgence than mistakingly credited Pewds for it, like John said, he only fueled it.
Minecraft will forever be cemented in my head, I've started playing again and I'll sometimes see or say something that immediately brings me back. I've made so many worlds with high school friends, ex's, friends, ex-friends etc. I remember everything and I still sometimes build something and realize it's actually the same as I built from a long time ago, this is the type of game that just implants itself in your memory. I can't enjoy this game alone because I just think about the stuff I did in the past with my mates and it's kind of depressing and lonely. Good times, always good times.
I played all the way up until around december of 2018 when I finally decided that I should play something else since none of my friends played anymore. Then suddenly a couple months later everyone began playing again and I was so confused.
I never left Minecraft. I was still playing even if people were making fun of it, and I was embarrassed to admit for playing it. But now seeing it grow and people starting to love the game just brings me joy. This is easily my favorite game of all time.
Same. I remember getting bullied for liking Minecraft. I remember when me and a few other kids who nobody liked in class were the only people who played Minecraft. I remember hoping that, one day, Minecraft would make a return... That day came
and then it became one of those big aspects of Minecraft. Building, coding, combat, exploration and REDSTONE. Seeecret Friday was a game-changer in both figurative and literal terms.
Okay- holy crap was this well made. I can't believe something of this caliber is coming from such a small channel; this is, like, professional work! Good job man, I hope it gets the attention it deserves.
that's one of the reason Minecraft is a special game Minecraft is full of building destroy adventure killing mobs or players and most of all it adds horror when Herobrine arrived
Herobrine moment 😊 That was also how I was ironicalkt introduced to the game...my friends showed me and my fellow Sunday School friends Minecraft for the first time just trying to find Herobrine.
I've been playing Minecraft on my mom's phone since about 2013 when my friend recommended I play it. Then about 2015 I got Minecraft ps3. I was so happy. Minecraft is a game I've been playing almost my entire life and never stopped playing. I love you MINECRAFT😀
Lol it was recommended to me earlier and now I'm here all up in my feels even though I didn't grow up with it and only started playing recently. Glad to see this work of art is getting the traction it deserves!
I remember when I first was about to get minecraft (as a gift card at the store) I was also wanted to get club penguin membership but my mom told me I can only have one so I was set on buying CP membership but had second thoughts and decided to choose minecraft. Best decision I've ever made.
@@DreamingBloodfiend Minecraft in the past: Man. All this building is really tiring me out. I think it's time to go to bed. Minecraft after Microsoft: Alright, I'm taking a nap bye. Minecraft in the recent years: You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby. Minecraft: (sweats profusely)

I know I'm really late but I just wanted to say thank you for making this incredible video. I am now 20 years old and I pretty much grew up with Minecraft aswell - still enjoying it occasionally. You just gave me a trip to the past by showing all these clips, soundtracks and naming these UA-camrs. The end, where you (or all of us) are thanking Mojang gave me immense goosebumps. Thank you for making me smile at least 10 times in one video :) Minecraft really took part in making me what I am today - making me love videogames, connecting to people through them and even choose my job because of it! It's crazy to think about how much this little, blocky game affected me as a person. Thanks again for this video.

I think it's funny that he said "It's like an endless Lego world" because when I was 5 (now 14) it was my first videogame and I wanted it because of my obsession with Lego bricks. Also, does anyone still remember Minecraft Lite on mobile devices because everyone I ask doesn't and it feels like a fever dream?
I remember Minecraft lite! I'd spend hours on a single world that would be lost as soon as I closed the app. I loved to build whatever. I missed having more mobs than creepers, so I build my own creepers! (To be fair they looked like green dicks all over the place)
When he said that horses were added in 1.6, I realized how long ago that was. Also, it feels like Microsoft bought Mojang only 2 or 3 years ago and not 6.
Does anyone remember the minecraft lite on the iPad or similar things, you could only have a certain amount of blocks and you couldnt save the world lmao! Bringing back the memories!
@@officialprincelouie I feel like 1.9 wasn't that bad either. People raged over a combat system that wasn't just clicking fast. Eventually they add crossbows and that. I feel as if 1.16 is the best update minecraft will see for a while

Minecraft is going to peak again when all the parents of when Minecraft came out plays it thier children. It's going to be the new way to bond
And that is only a few years away, and hopefully, Minecraft will have such an impact on the next generation, and they will keep it alive and maybe, make it the 100 year game
@@Gamersoul333 then after we are gone they will play it again with their children, saying "daddy and grandpa used to play this before"
In 20 years, the comment sections of Minecraft songs will be kids saying “my mom/dad told me about this”
I think one key aspect of the resurgence you missed is that now, after the resurgence Minecraft isn't seen as cringy or as a kid's game.
