I was once considered ‘incapable’ by a former Bishop and Archdeacon because my parishes struggled to pay the parish share. Fortunately I have the Freehold under the old system. I've got 15 years until retirement and thankfully we’re happy here.
I don't care if its a woman or person of colour as they preach the gospel as Jesus said. And tougher line on Priests who abuse. Instead of shifting the problem by sending the person to a different parish. Hoping the problems vanish.
The Church of England needs REAL PASTORS, HARDWORKING MINISTERS as candidates for such high position, instead of people holding a PhD . I am not implying that theological academic degrees are not important, but a testable pastoral parish work and a "hands on" attitude are essentials if they want to keep the Church alive ! Otherwise the denomination will be over in twenty years time.
I'm afraid you're wrong. The problem is too many of the senior clergy aren't thoroughly qualified theologians. That's why they often substitute woke agendas in place of orthodox learning... They may have paper qualifications, but those are so partial and watered down.
I am not British. I am an American. Although I have been in England off and one nearly a year over the course of ten years) and been to church in the City at St. Helen's Bishopsgate and know about All Souls Langham Place, Holy Trinity Brompton, Christ Church Mayfair, outside of London I've never attended a CofE entire service in any of the 10 counties from Lancashire to East Sussex to Devon and Cornwall where I've spent a good deal of time. In America, we don't have an Established Church, so I do not understand the loyalty and desperate desire to stay in the Church of England. Some may be too attached to the idea of what church should be or to their ancient buildings, I don't know. But when a house is on fire, people run out of it as quickly as they can. Why really care at this point who the leadership is of an apostate church? Why not simply shake dust and leave? Let the dead bury themselves.
We are not cowards. Why should we leave? What did we do wrong? Why should we throw away the work of centuries of Christian generations? Schism is murder in the New Testament. Sometimes it is necessary when chucked out by a lost Church such as the Roman denomination. But the American willingness to split over secondary issues like YEC and other nonsense is not a small thing, it is sinful and a rejection of the Gospel.
Good evening Rev Dan. I don't really care who the next archbishop is going to be. Its not a role I would want anyway. I do however care about my local church and the good work it is doing. And all the other local churches.
Well, they could follow the BBC example for their Dr Who lead and choose a ‘two ticks’ non white (male or female) & lesbian/non binary/gay! The result would be the same as Dr Who viewership, rapid decline. Seriously, the C of E needs a strong leader that actually believes what the Bible says. Forget the PhD and higher academic achievements of a candidate. Just stick with what St Paul told Timothy about the qualifications for a bishop. God wants a real shepherd to lead (save!) the C of E.
Although he's retired, Nicky Gumbel would be good. Done a great deal for Anglican renewal and mission. He’s extremely gracious and effective too. If only. However I do think the choice will surprise us all.
The thing with being elected or appointed as an Anglican Archbishop, it doesn't become all about that person's personal sympathies, beliefs, opinions. The Archbishop must be a leader and advocate for every clergyperson and layperson within that Diocese. Which is why he used to be My Lord. It was feudal. Archbishops don't have much power because they must work within Canon Law and secular law. But they DO have influence. Which is why their power bases are often disappointed when the new Archbishop doesn't take a hard line. The Archbishop must listen to and care about everyone.
Isn’t strange that the early universal church of the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th centuries had none the problems that the Church of England have today concerning female bishops, maybe just maybe they followed the teachings that Paul set down in Gods holy Scripture,
They had their own problems with heresies and all sorts of nonsense. Some of the early ones are described in the Book of Acts etc., later ones like iconoclasm, Gnosticism and Arianism were a nightmare and very nearly destroyed the church. But God clearly had a plan, and it survived in the end.
The Children's Society has been a solid support against abuse and I can understand why the Society has put out a statement as it has done! Can I appeal to the supporters of it on continuing to do so and support it! Notwithstanding it should continue to do so. It's so important to maintain line of defence against abuse of children! I believe that is correct for me to make it a call of this kind!
It's now obvious that if safeguarding is to be taken seriously then clergy must be accountable and 'performance managed' on their implementation of safeguarding policy and procedures. My experience of too many vicars is that they think they have other priorities and can make justifiable excuses for why they do not comply with the Parish Handbook for Safeguarding. Clergy need to become employees for this accountability to be achieved. If clergy are serious about protecting people then they will understand the need to compromise on what they may view as 'special' circumstances.
What I find incredible is the fact that any potential new archbishop of Canterbury is not judged on their willingness to abide by the word of God but only by the Anglican church and traditions. I am very concerned that there is no desire for the word of God as preeminent above our traditions. According to Jesus those who would lead should be servants of all and not self seeking and self-serving wanting to be elated by their congregations. How far we have fallen!
The problem is that if it ends up as a woman it would speak doom for the minoroty of complementarians. Mutual flouroshing will come to an end and decline will accelerate.
You might be more protected re employment law but you would lose your individual status & you would be required to say & act as your employer demands . Your Employer is Our Blessed Lord not an earthly being & that in my opinion must be protected at all costs otherwise change results in a Priest being the same as any other employee which will reduce the position of Priests the same as any other earthly being which they are not. That is central to ordination surely.🙏🙏🙏

Probably yes, as the church can do now for staff roles such as office staff, despite in many cases there being no real requirement to be a Christian to be able to do those roles.
@@robertfreeman6082hmm not convinced by this. Most diocesan staff roles require you to be liberal and inclusive so as to not upset the liberal inclusives out there. The same will be true for clergy. You watch. Decline will accelerate.
for a catholic this is strange.......Jesus is the son of god.....God sends his son not his daugther....he was the first priest in order of melchisedek so only a man can follow him as priest, deacon or bishop..........because it is one order.....
I think that the decision to refuse Welby's donation is against the common good. Welby wishes to express his desire for atonement for his offence, worldly speaking. If he didn't donate to the charity, I can imagine people condemning him for not acting out his public statement of repentance in his resignation, only using words. How is he supposed to express his repentance if not by contributing to those charities seeking to amend the hurt caused or aided by the Archbishop's negligence?

DAN: Unless the next ABC is a serious biblical 'Jesus Scholar', the Church will remain 'Welbyised': managerial and bureaucratic, top-heavy, and unable to relate to the churchgoer in the pews: let alone the World. 'Apologetics' needs to be crucial: so that belief in the Lordship of Jesus can be explained in a way which is 'reasoned' and 'reasonable'. This rules out people like Sarah Mullally (London) and Rose Hudson-Wilkins (Dover): as well as most of the current bishops in the Church of England. The Selectors need to look to Acadaemia, and a believing 'Jesus Scholar'. After all, David Jenkins was pulled out of Leeds; whilst Tom Wright is well-published (both Durham). We need someone who has 'theolopgically gravitas': but not 'remote' like Rowan Williams. My nominee would be Professor Martyn Percy: although this would be a controvertial appouintment, and would require Dr Percy's return to the C of E. Certainly, the Church needs to "look outside the box" of its own current bench of bishops. The problem is, any nominee has to be fully on board with Establishment. This is untenable in the contemporary UK: especially when it comes to the Coronation of our Sovereigns by the ABC. This jealously-guarded privilege needs to go; in favour of an 'Oath-taking' Ceremony; with the loss of the Tanakh's "annointing of kings". With regard to Bishop Welby's donation, I had no idea that there are 'Purity Tests' provided by Charities, these days. That let's me off the hook: because I would fail them all, as a human being. This is a stupid decision, taken by stupid, 'woke', members of the Childrens' Charity Board. If this was the C of E Childrens' Charity, then it is even worse: their 'values' do not accord with those of Jesus of Nazareth.
