Hello Emanuele, many thanks for subscribing and I’ll be more than happy to answer your question. App connects via the built in GPS. SE has the basic GPS, which enables you to connect with the car for its basic features (heating, fault, lock/unlock, find car, charge status, heat battery etc). Trophy/Luxury has GPS and unlimited wifi hotspot (built in sim) as well for satnav, music app etc. this means the range to connect the car depends on the gps and your phone’s wifi/network availability. I turned on the heating of my car from 160 miles away for my wife. Remember, car heating automatically turns off after 10mins of activation (for safety and preserving the battery) however, thats more than enough to defrost the car and make it warm. I hope this has answered your questions. Thanks.
Thanks Roy. If I could find £6k, I would surely go for the trophy. However, I keep going back to the value you get for £26K. I think, it’ll have to be the SE
Hi Saurabh, I noticed your comment about the seat upholstery; Burl Goldsmith makes a very good point about this in his delivery video. The seat upholstery is only covered under warranty for 1 year, so if you’ve got an issue with it, bring it to the dealer’s attention with your 12 months - they should be able to sort it at the 1 yeah service. Great video - really annoying that the presets aren’t persistent - kinda kills the benefits of the instant start if you have to spend 30 secs with the drive configuration - #1stworldproblems!
Cheers.. thanks for your message. Unfortunately I ended up getting rid of my MG due to many problems with it. I wasnt getting anywhere with the service/warranty team.
Have you try to reach MG to have them mitigate some of your issues, especially the software issues which can be fixed through OTA updates. From what I have heard, they haven’t fixed the most obvious one yet. It’s a bit disappointing.😅
great video! I'm. new. to all this EV stuff, did you need to buy a specific type 2 cable to go with the mg4 and ohme gone charger? could you link me to where you one please or the right one to get? thanks keep. the vids coming
Cheers, I can totally understand where you are coming from. I was quite intimidated with moving over to EV too as we all “fear change”. The switch was smooth and I havent looked back ever since. Car comes with type2 cable (standard cable) and Ohme home charger comes with 5m tethered cable so no drama there too.
@@thedoyles6013 that’s exactly what I was told. Just tell them very nicely that the granny charger is going to be no good for you as the socket isnt close enough and you arent planning on getting a home charger yet. Only option you have is to use unthreaded work/destination chargers. Just request them to swap the cable with a type 2 and they’ll do it fro you. Failing that, just google standard type 2 cable, there are so many retailers out there. It shouldn’t cost you more than £150ish
Morning, you mentioned a 50:50 weight distribution for the car, but why do you drive the care then with different pressure on front and rear tyres? 2.6Bar on front tyres and 2.9Bar on rear tyres. Energy price of 10p/kWh -> that´s fantastic. Why is that so cheap in UK? 🙂
@@Letstalkelectric Sorry, but I meant the bank where you sit on top. Usually this can be pulled up first and then the part for your back can be fold a bit more down to get a flat boot. I have not seen anyone folding that seat cushion up to the back of the driver seat. That is why I am asking cause our test ride will be after chrismas . Thanks a lot.
If I didn’t have my leaf Tekna 40 I would definitely test drive the MG4 . My leaf does have heated seats , heated steering wheel and full leather interior, all of which I would miss . MG should have option for leather seats .
My number one hate is the "main" window demister button. While using android maps and Spotify my windows starts to get misty. If you press the on/off air conditioning your screen changes and to get back to the android maps is four key presses. If you press the back window, Android auto map is still working as expected. If you press the front window button the screen loses the map. It's as if you pressed.on/off button
You are right, Oct Int do not directly work with MG and other cars due to no API connection. However, if you have Ohme Home Pro installed then there will be no issues at all. That smart charger works as a bridge between Oct and MG
You forgot to add how stylish it looks compared to the other cheap EVs. The BYD Dolphin for example, only a mother could love the face/front of that one. 😉
Do you get subsidiaries from the government or local city to lower the 26000 GBP which is astonishingly cheap considering tthe 26000 incl. 20% UK VAT. What do you have to pay for delivery / shipping ?
@@Letstalkelectric In germany you get the subsidiaries still but guess what: the british prices are lower even after 6000 € grants by government and 3600 from manufacturer. Price here is 32000 € + 1000€ delivery + 1000€ Epress in 2022 = 34.000€ and 4000 more for bigger battery and 6000 more for luxury which is your trophy. We will get that trophy in the light grey version and DOVER WHITE . Funnny that we get british named lines that do not exist in britain like comfort and luxury. There seem to be a lot of smaller differences between the lines cause your car shows a lot of differences in detail like in the booth no second level floor and 6 speakers , so 2 in the back instead of zero. I check the small british user yt videos cause they look different on topics compared to the german view on the same car. Your one has the LFP battery and therefore you will face far slower charging speed due to cold temperature. You will need a far longer battery pre heating to get anywhere close to advertised 117 kw. We have seen here first comparison rides of Cupra born = ID.3 family and MG 4 big battery in November where the Cupra born charged with 60 kW after a 45 km ride on ionity charger. In 10 minute it charged 8 kwh and then the Born owner did ride the MG and afterwards charged the MG4 with 120 kW and 16 kWh in 10 minutes, but this is the Li Ion battery which does not suffer that much from the low temperatures. A german youtuber got the white standard version and had only gotten 60 kW but now in december with 0°C ambient temperature and was quite disappointed, again ionity high speed charger capable of 350 kW. If you wann know better about the dependencies check in your app the battery temperature at arrival in front of the charger cause that is the key element which determines your charging speed cause the car communicates with the charges and delivers the info about the charging speed it wants to be charged. And be aware that 1°C can make the difference between 90 kW or 60 kW chargigng therefore preheating is pretty good idea or charging instantly after a long ride cause then the battery is already in best state to get charged cause preheating can need a lot of energy like in the id. family where the battery is charged with over 6 kW which might add 6 kWh onto your consumption in winter if you need to preheat for 1h before charging. It all depends on your behaviour and especially fast charging is a lot faster and more convenient after along ride in winter instead of before the ride. great car, great videos and eye for those details others did not mention like the peeling effect on the seats which was another reason among your feeling about dark and dull interior to go for the trophy with light grey interior and bi color.
@@tusharshah8938 I would buy sooner rather later as prices are going up by £1000 from next month and honestly, there will always be a new number plate temptation. You still 2.5 months before 23 plate is out
Hello, I have been having my car (mg4 trophy) for 3 weeks now, and I am using it as a taxi. In the temperature of 1 °C I was averaging 3.4 - 3.6 miles/KWh, but in the temperature of around -5 °C I was averaging about 2.7 - 3 miles/KWh depending on the driving style, road conditions, and terrain. Since I got the car, this is what I have been experiencing. I was always having my heating on at around 22 °C and passengers are frequently opening the doors in the car, so the heating system has to work hard to keep up with the temperature inside the car. On a side note, my rear window always fogs up, so I need to use the rear window heater often. I think its a badly designed or just the rear window is too close to the passengers that they can quickly steam it up. Regarding the consumption, I may need to improve on my driving style as I was coming from a prius as my previous car. That was handling differently compared to this car, so I presume that I just need to get used to the pedal movements (travel). This car (mg4) has very sensitive pedals in eco mode than the prius had in eco mode. In the prius, you had more pedal travel, and it was easier to save on fuel, but in the mg4, the pedals do not have as much travel to play with.
Ordered the SE Long range. I just can't fault this car at this price point. If you told me 5years ago I would be purchasing a MG and a EV at that I would have given you fairly long odds at that!!!!!
Hi, it completely depends on your daily “non stop” range. If you can keep your daily milage under 220-210 miles then there is no real reason for going to the LR. 1. SR has LFP, can be charged to 100% regularly without impacting the battery 2. Lighter car 3. Marginally quicker 4. £2500 saving’s straight away 5. No additional tech, unless going for trophy
I have an MG 4. But being old and decrepit - I could do with a video on how to use it in conjunction with an iPhone for maps, google search and entertainment.

@@Letstalkelectric if you download the warranty pdf you'll find those questionable SE fabric seats are only covered for 12 months probably just before they need replacing given their quality (or lack of it). To clarify the MG4 doesn't come with a comprehensive 7 year warranty it comes with a reducing 7 year warranty where most things don't get the full 7 year cover ! Now I'm not trying to say it's a bad car, a 1 year warranty on the soft spongy seats could be a good thing 👍
@@Letstalkelectric No, it’s a Max and as far as I know, they’re not being built just now. BUT fingers crossed production of the Max and Tour will start up again soon.
I think the standard range car is the better option because you can charge to 100% all the time, whereas the long range they recommend only 80% to prolong battery life. So in real terms not much difference.
Hello everyone. Thank you for the review. I got the trophy long range. I have done more than 9000 miles in just over 4 months. I love the car. It has some bugs in the infotainment system, but overall, it is a very nice vehicle. I have not used ultra rapid chargers, so I am not sure of the maximum speed of the charging, but I will do it in a few months later. As I am planning to do a long European holiday trip with this vehicle. The estimated miles I will do in a month will be about 2700 miles. I may do a video of this. I love these reviews, but I still do not know how this car behaves in a long term of ownership. I have realised that the car has developed some squeaking noise in the cabin, which comes from the glove box area. The driver seat is holding up well. I have bought a seat cover for the other seats. I do not know how those will hold up. I am using the car as a private hire vehicle. So, I have many people getting in and out on a daily basis.
Great review but the 2p per mile is being subsidised by you having to pay 43p per kwh during the day for your household needs. Also 4 miles per kwh wont be your 12 month average as you havent driven it in winter. An equivalant ICE car would be thousands of pounds cheaper plus EV's are depreciating faster than conventionally fueled cars at the moment. Bottom line if you want cheap motoring with great build quality buy a Toyota Hybrid.
To bad english is always doing it different ml/kw here we use X for 100km. If i was able to calcute yours its 25.625Kw/100km Adding to confirm you have charged 216.9 @ home in your video i see you charging at Tesla that will make up for the consumption differen if you charged always ad home then consumption was going to be 21.69kWh/100Km here But you havent so The 25.62 will mostlikely be real consumption ITS HIGH REALY HIGH then again what can you expect from a car thats 12000€ difference from Higer brands. you can ofcourse drive alot for 12K ad the end you still will be cheaper with the MG but the more you drive the closer you get to a EU car
1 mile -> 1.61km, 4.1miles per kWh -> 6.6km per kWh, which means, as macmonkey1000 already mentioned, 15.1kWh / 100km -> that´s really a good value for a MG4 🙂
the dislikes you mentioned put me right off. Don’t think it has regenerative braking .. you didn’t cover that, for memory.I wonder whether MG fix things you mentioned. And any many are not “ software updates” , eg lighting in back of car Truly if they don’t fix problems, I’m not buying it .. the water bottles not designed to access without a simple grasp, very poor etc
Hello sir, the mg4 has 25% of regenerative braking strength of the output of the electric motor. This is not the strongest at the ev market today, but it does its job. I got the trophy model, and it does work just fine for me. I definitely would suggest some software update to mg as well. They have much more room to improve in different areas.

Remember, car heating automatically turns off after 10mins of activation (for safety and preserving the battery) however, thats more than enough to defrost the car and make it warm. I hope this has answered your questions. Thanks.
@@Letstalkelectric That is amazing! thank you so so much for your answer, very exhaustive!
I hope my car arrives sooner than later!
@@bexem you are most welcome. I hope you get yours soon…
I have a Trophy Long Range on order. So looking forward to delivery in February.
Great spec and the light bar 🥰
Have you all look at battery degradation on MGs in Norway. Not the best so I guess cheap is cheap. It would be a big concern for me long term.
Cool emotional content & review! Thanks a lot for this video!
You are most welcome, Dave. I am glad you found it useful
Brilliant info, your 10 dislikes are understandable. Would you buy the SE again or upgrade to the Trophy ?👍
Thanks Roy. If I could find £6k, I would surely go for the trophy. However, I keep going back to the value you get for £26K. I think, it’ll have to be the SE
Yes I understand , I think I will go for the long range battery. 👍
@@royboydanny1415 Now SE LR is a perfect match. That would be my choice too
Hi Saurabh,
I noticed your comment about the seat upholstery; Burl Goldsmith makes a very good point about this in his delivery video.
@@Letstalkelectric oh, I’m sorry to hear that Saurabh - seems like a cracking car. What did you get instead?
@@grahamkutner-simon8272 I ended up getting a Tesla Model 3
@@Letstalkelectric out of curiosity was it a case of returning it because of the issues or more like losing money on it by trading and such
@@AbdoJouma hello, it was more around the safety issue I had which made me very uncomfortable letting my wife and my son get in that car
Loving your videos. Keep it up
Nice review. Thank you.
Getting mine today.
WOW!! Congratulations… I am sure you’ll love your new car. 👍👍. And it’ll be a 73 plate 🎉
Have you try to reach MG to have them mitigate some of your issues, especially the software issues which can be fixed through OTA updates. From what I have heard, they haven’t fixed the most obvious one yet. It’s a bit disappointing.😅
Hi not yet. My issues are very minor so not too concerned about them
It's very tempting, but I'm worried about the reported oil leak and quality control. The MG5 seems robust so I'm hopeful.
I was a tad bit nervous before buying. Good news is MG is aware of the issue and there a quick fix for it. Yes, MG5 looks promising though
Having had 2 MG4's and rejected both for multiple issues.
I would look elsewhere
@@djewson Totally understand where you are coming from.
Thanks for the clear information. A trophy should be mine in March. Unless BYD make their move into the UK
BYD looks promising. Either way, you cant go wrong.
great video! I'm. new. to all this EV stuff, did you need to buy a specific type 2 cable to go with the mg4 and ohme gone charger? could you link me to where you one please or the right one to get? thanks keep. the vids coming
@@Letstalkelectric amazing thanks for fast reply! I've bene told that mine is only coming with the 3 pin charger not type 2
Hi, 10p/kwh is only for the off peak hours
can you fold the rear seat bank up like in any GOLF or ID.3 ?
Hi, rear seats are not adjustable. They just fold down completely to access the boot
Absolutely, heated leather seats would have made so much difference to the interior quality
The trophy version has all of those I believe
Trophy has these features too although I think seats are part vegan leather....
Oke, I understand that you have an SE version. I would like to know if you have chosen the trophy version what your dislike were?
What app do you use for intelligent octopus?
Their faq seems to imply it won't work with mg (and many other cars) , but you've had no problem?
You are right, Oct Int do not directly work with MG and other cars due to no API connection. However, if you have Ohme Home Pro installed then there will be no issues at all. That smart charger works as a bridge between Oct and MG
@@Letstalkelectric thanks. I'm getting the ohme, so shouldn't be a problem.
@@logant6490 Ohme is great. There is another Video I did for the home charger. You may want to have a look. 👀
You forgot to add how stylish it looks compared to the other cheap EVs. The BYD Dolphin for example, only a mother could love the face/front of that one. 😉
Can you use the cams as a Dashcam?
Hi, unfortunately not
Do you get subsidiaries from the government or local city to lower the 26000 GBP which is astonishingly cheap considering tthe 26000 incl. 20% UK VAT.
What do you have to pay for delivery / shipping ?
Hi, not any more. We used to get it until a few years ago. Yes, this one is the cheapest family EV you can buy in the uk
Thanks for all your videos on the MG 4 hopefully I will get my Grey Trophy in February.
Very classic colour. Love that shade of grey on mg4, especially on Trophy. I am sure you cant wait..
might as well wait for new reg in March. Will you?

Hi I picked mine up only 2 days ago and I’m getting 2.3miles per kWh it is -1 degrees c is that normal
Haha, totally with you on that. MGs have come far from what they were before.
will you advise long range?
Hi, it completely depends on your daily “non stop” range. If you can keep your daily milage under 220-210 miles then there is no real reason for going to the LR.
1. SR has LFP, can be charged to 100% regularly without impacting the battery
2. Lighter car
3. Marginally quicker
4. £2500 saving’s straight away
5. No additional tech, unless going for trophy
Looks ideal for me think I will get one
I have an MG 4. But being old and decrepit - I could do with a video on how to use it in conjunction with an iPhone for maps, google search and entertainment.

I don’t like the mg range to be honest worse still the after sales service however your review was excellent.
Should dig into that 7 Yr warranty and compare it to what the legacy auto makers are offering. See Volvo EX90 only 3 years ☹️☹️
3 years on an electric cars is just a joke.. looking forward to the 7 years warranty
@@Letstalkelectric Note not everything on the car is not 7yr I think only battery and chassis. Not the infotainment system. I could be wrong.
I am at least 2 maths away from delivery of my LR version
@@VhudziJena yes, you are correct. Most car manufacturers only offer that long warranty on battery only however, MG’s 7 years warranty is on everything on the car. Of course, consumables are excluded (lights, tyres, wipers etc)
@Macmonkey1000 hahah. Good point
ALL good points thanks

I think the standard range car is the better option because you can charge to 100% all the time, whereas the long range they recommend only 80% to prolong battery life. So in real terms not much difference.
Couldnt agree more, Stephen. Value, logic and usability all are winners with the standard range
My MG4 seats way too soft.
Ergonomics oversight
Will never be on my shortlist of cars to consider. Even if I could charge at home and had the money!
To bad english is always doing it different ml/kw here we use X for 100km.
If i was able to calcute yours its 25.625Kw/100km
Adding to confirm you have charged 216.9 @ home in your video i see you charging at Tesla that will make up for the consumption differen
if you charged always ad home then consumption was going to be 21.69kWh/100Km here
But you havent so The 25.62 will mostlikely be real consumption
ITS HIGH REALY HIGH
then again what can you expect from a car thats 12000€ difference from Higer brands. you can ofcourse drive alot for 12K
ad the end you still will be cheaper with the MG but the more you drive the closer you get to a EU car
1 mile -> 1.61km, 4.1miles per kWh -> 6.6km per kWh, which means, as macmonkey1000 already mentioned, 15.1kWh / 100km -> that´s really a good value for a MG4 🙂
dear ho dear it’s a very cheap car some people will mown about eney thing 😮
if you like the MG4, you don't like driving.
the dislikes you mentioned put me right off. Don’t think it has regenerative braking .. you didn’t cover that, for memory.I wonder whether MG fix things you mentioned. And any many are not “ software updates” , eg lighting in back of car
Truly if they don’t fix problems, I’m not buying it .. the water bottles not designed to access without a simple grasp, very poor etc
