- I have my hands on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra with a new variable aperture 1-inch main camera, a new 5X Periscope zoom lens and improved portrait lens with faster aperture. So y'all know what must be done: I took it out to the streets of Beijing for a camera shootout against the Oppo Find X6 Pro and the Xiaomi 13 Pro.

7:36 As someone who does photography as a hobby, this is one of my dreams came true. I always thought it'd be amazing to see a hybrid between a camera and a phone once again now that sensors have become so big. I hope we can see more brands doing this, or at least see Xiaomi releasing these kind of accessories worldwide.

I always wonder why sony does not simply grab one of their mirroless cameras and give it phone features.
True.. but it lacks some points for me.. it would be super great if the camera design is compact that allow us to use smaller filter and additional lens support.. that would be a game changer.. this is just a mere updates..
@@angel20503 Maybe it would be possible to make an adapter for lenses, after all, there's people who has adapted proyector lenses, disposable camera lenses and rangefinder lenses to mirrorless cameras, I think there must be a way to 3D print and adapter for the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. However, I don't think someone will do it soon, due to it only releasing in China and being relatively costly
@@cruzdesangre2850 Yes.. we can 3D print them but it wont look nice.. sure there is 3rd party product like cage and adapter but largely focus to iphones.. again it would super great if Xiaomi or any other brand produce them natively..

That camera grip accessory is great. I have a separate camera grip for my phone but the bulk makes it too wide for grip especially around my palm. Having a dedicated accessory that fits firmly onto my hand is awesome.
I'm totally amazed with the kit especially when it can do half pressed focus, just like a real camera. That zoom switch is also great and on top of that, the filter holder is mind blowing. Imagine using polarizing filter or ND filter on a phone.

The addition with the extra grip/case that gives you smooth control of functions (zoom etc.) is very good, I would like other companies to follow this example.
With bigger sensors, variable aperture, better sensors beyond the main camera, I think we have entered a new era of smartphone cameras. As a fan of the big optical zoom, I hope that at some point we will also see implementations with variable optical zoom, where the lenses will come out of the phone body.

Also, I love how we both share the same idea - a cell phone doubling as a proper camera is an easier option than lugging around a gigantic camera and lens system.
True, I love my Alpha Sony camera and lenses, but this Xiaomi Ultra is the first time I am considering to buy a phone that can replace my equipment for random street photography!

In future, may I request to review each camera phone after typical usage of 3-6 months. The camera quality degradation is a factor that isn't discussed as often.

Great to see review about camera grip.
Many people just doesn't realize what it means, besides protection of lens, you can use ND filter or any other filter, last available on Nokia 808. Camera grip is surely useful for more smooth videos if using just one hand...
Another main point to realize, the grip will let people get more usable horizontal shots, since many shoot vertical.
I've always liked Xiaomi devices, but this one I love. Not only does it look good, but it performs like a beast

The OPPO is more usable as a daily driver with it's thinner body, while the Xiaomi is more camera-like. Both are really great phones!

Thanks for the video Ben, what do you think about the variable aperture? Samsung had that a while ago but I don't think it's a thing anymore on the S23. A feature that gets added and then removed makes it feel like a gimmick. Looks like a great camera phone nevertheless

Hi Ben, Is this much better than the Vivo X90 Pro Plus as far as photos in dark environments? Also what camera flash does it use? I wished the powerful superior Xenon flash would make a comeback.
Still don't get the 1080p limit on the front camera when the main is a step above anything else as far as new features go.
Wow, I much prefer Hasselblad's color science! I don't know if the camera difference is significant, but the colors are much better in my opinion. Xiaomi seems to give too much priority to the blue and colors close to the skin color. When you were passing the blue fence, it was to much blue in my opinion. No doubt, Xiaomi has a good camera. But out of the two, I'll definitely pick Oppo.
The accessories are awesome. I don't see much use for the handle. Cause pocketability is more important in my opinion then grip comfort. But filters - its awesome. The nice addon would be an ability to stick 1or 2 filters to the back of the phone.

I also think that hassel wins, it is able to give a photo different level of tones and contrast and the details of the dark parts are much more elevated.

That variable apertura is a very good news, using Vivo X90 Pro I've realized the same thing as you with OPPO Find X6 Pro, too much light in daily photos, I think it will help a lot to control light.
I love the camera kit... just work harder on the physical controls - make the shutter release button better and add a control dial for zoom. Good direction. Nice intro thanks 🙏
I was waiting for this.
I did import the 13 Pro global and I've been enjoying it. The thing that gets me about this one however is the camera but more so the ability to I believe do video output now as this offers USB 3.2 as opposed to USB 2.0. I think the also mildly upgraded video to the selfie camera to support 60FPs for 1080p . I'm very curious how much this will cost.
The features is so damn cool but i dont like the big black glass on the back.. maybe they should try to make compact, squared or rectangular shaped design so that we can use smaller filters.. not to mention additional lens support..

I was surprised to see that Xiaomi downgraded sensor sizes of Ultra-Wide and 5X for 13 Ultra from 1/2.0" to 1/2.51, which is quite a big difference, when compared to 12 Ultra, actually even to 11 Ultra.
Don't worry about the effect getting worse, because the aperture becomes larger, so the amount of light entering is also larger. The reason why I choose imx858 is that I can't fit a bigger cmos inside and imx858 is the latest generation of Sony. It can work better with imx989 than imx586
@@dylanwang647 It definitely makes it come complete and up to date package, but as seen in the video, Ultra-wide video quality is definitely worse, especially in not so great lightining conditions, no matter the aperture.
