- Grading the New Orleans Saints 2024 NFL Draft picks. In this video, James Skrmetta reacts to each of the New Orleans Saints draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft and gives out his final grade for the New Orleans Saints draft. CBS Sports give out grades for the NFC South. NFL Draft grades: New Orleans Saints make the most of limited picks. The Saints grabbed an immediate starter at guard or tackle in Taliese Fuaga. He is another member of an extremely talented offensive line class that should have success in the NFL. The Saints grabbed a starting-caliber cornerback in Kool-Aid McKinstry and a developmental option at quarterback in Spencer Rattler. For as few draft assets as they came into the draft with, the Saints fared pretty well. Saints with an elusive A-plus grade for their haul in the 2024 draft. Not just for getting the most out of their early-round picks in right tackle Taliese Fuaga and cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry, but for getting great value later on with picks like quarterback Spencer Rattler

I’m just glad Saints didn’t trade away a first round pick to reach for someone they could’ve gotten with the 198th pick in the draft.
Exactly. We've learned to take small positives after the last several years of drafts
1st round - about 50% of players drafted in the 1st round developed into solid NFL starters.
2nd round - about 33% of players drafted in the 2nd round developed into solid NFL starter. From here, it dropped by 50% per round.
3rd round - about 16%.
4th round - about 8%.
5th round - about 4-5%.
6th round - about 2%.
7th round - about 1-2%.
I’m gonna give it an A. You have a franchise tackle to set the tone for the running game. You have a great DB. You have a potential heir apparent at the QB position to keep pace with the rest of the young QB’s in the division. A QB who people were comparing with Mahommes. Sprinkle in some rotational depth and special teams players and one project in the last round and you have a good draft there.
The last round guy looks the part, I hope him and Trevor both become successful LTs
Good thing we have one of the best Wr coaches in the league. That should help Bub develope.
I think every Saints fan should be excited about this upcoming season honestly. We had a good offseason, made some FA signings, including a splash signing in Chase Young, had an A draft imo with some guys who can start right away. Some possible steals in the late round too. New Orleans is hosting rhe Superbowl in for the first time since 2012. We also hired a whole new offensive staff. I know a lot of our fanbase is gonna still say "oh but we still have Dennis Allen" and "oh but we have Derek Carr". Those shouldnt be reason as to why we shouldnt be good. Derek Carr is a good quarterback and im tired of people saying he sucks. Hes more than capable of leading us to the playoffs. DA is a good defensive mind and our defense has been great for years under him. Klint Kubiak is now gonna take over our offense so it should be better this year. So im gonna say it again: every Saints fan should be excited for this upcoming season. There are a lot of reasons to be excited. I know I am. WHO DAT⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️
I'm cautiously optimistic. We're being overlooked and underhyped, which is honestly the best place to be. As long as DA lets Kubiak take full control of the offense and he lives up to his expectations, then it should be a solid season. I think the personnel is mostly there. It still boils down to how the trenches perform, but with most of the other pieces, they have the potential to make a run.
Its funny that saints fans love to hate on carr when he is a proven starter which ceiling is mvp voting and pro bowl caliber, but get their panties all wet for a guy whose ceiling is "probably a starter".
Most of them are just dumb
@@dl9232 Yeah let them sleep. We're better as underdogs anyway.
With Kubiak at the helm the offense is DEFINITELY gonna be better this year! ⚜️⚜️⚜️
Good draft, but under DA as coach, I’ve learned not to get my hopes up. Good players can’t fix a bad coach.
Well we may have a good OC now, TBD. I think if Kubiak balls out and gets head coaching offers, saints will have to promote him and let DA go. They know they can't keep rotating coordinators just to avoid the inevitable with DA
Just remember where Marques Colston and Jahri Evan’s came from and when they were drafted. Not many people expected them to make the team.
You must don’t watch highlight
Jaylan Ford a beast 😅
DA said he's going to exclusively play special teams.
I can understand what he saying tho fam the highlight tape was like 2 minutes 😭
Means isn't raw he was very efficient at last year. Great speed, makes contested catches and great size. Basically all you can ask for out of a late 5th rounder imo
Pretty sure he's only been a full time WR for a year or so. Def needs a little development
This man said taking an impromptu add. Did anyone else look for the skip button to get to the video? Gotta love the raw uncut stuff!

It’s was stated that due to NIL’s the draft had a major fall-off when it hit the 4th round. The developmental players started in the 4th this year. There was a punter taken in the 4th.
Josiah Ezirim could be good, but he needs to be coached up, especially since he switched over from defensive tackle. He has all the physical tools to be a solid offensive lineman.
I was surprised to see we got an A or A+ on most sites but then again I didn’t really see them giving any team below a C and that was only a couple
PFF only gave out 4 A+ grades. Colts, Saints, Eagles, Steelers
Boyd will definitely play snaps. He's a solid run stuffer. Ford will play STs and be blitz package LB. The others Means Ezirim are developmental who if they hit could be starting X and OT which are great risks to take. I like the draft. Ford and Boyd are gonna be contributors.
I'd grade it about a C+. At pick 14, no defensive player had been selected yet so we had an opportunity to pick our number 1 graded defender in the entire draft, or trade to someone who wants their number 1 defender. I think the two best available players were DEs Jared Verse & Laitu Latu, and it's hard to imagine the 14th offensive player being better than the 1st defender.
But we couldn't really pick defense because our roster & cap limitations force us to draft for need. In a situation like that it's hard to imagine that no team would've paid a premium to move up and select their top overall defender? So i think that was a missed opportunity to either trade back or pick BPA like Verse. The team might've argued that they "needed" a OT and he was the only starting caliber one left, but personally i liked the LT Amegdajie from Yale who went 73rd & the LG Bebee from K St who went 70th.
Overall i think we got two starters. The issue with the Kool Aid pick is it's kind of a lateral move in the short term because it means Lattimore getting traded. I'm ok with it especially if it saves us enough to retain Adebo, but it is kind of a lateral move. I like Kool Aid though. He's high pedigree. Rattler was great developmental value & Means is intriguing. I'm not sure this draft was super deep after pick 150 so I'm not expecting too much from the latter round guys. Ezerim i couldn't find film on so i didn't really have him graded. Boyd & Means have some athletic traits to maybe develop into rotational guys. I think my biggest concern was that interview with Fuaga after the draft where they asked him who his favorite players were and he said "i don't really watch football. Gotta get away somehow." I get that playing is a full-time gig but that is a huge red flag. He seems like Peat where the game was probably forced upon him more than him picking it because he loves it. Kool Aid interview & Rattler interviews were good though. They seem hungry.
I agree with ur assessment! I LOVE our first 3 picks A+... and then after that we fell back into the developmental bs guys
Just watched ford highlights 🔥
Exactly bro dude a beast I’m pretty sure the saint watch that before drafting him
DA said the plan is he'll exclusively be on special teams
It's true what you say. We don't know how any of these guys are going to do. Consensus seems to be that the Saints didn't reach on any of these picks and got really good value on most, at least as compared to how they were ranked by the various media outlets.
I'm optimistic about Ford as a 5th rounder. Seems to be a tackling machine. He had 100+ tackles each of the last 2 years at Texas. In context, his tackling numbers would have put him 2nd in the SEC 2 years ago and something like 4th or 5th this past season. The intangibles seem to be there in addition to the production, too. I think he was a team captain. He was the one they signaled the plays into, and he communicated them to the rest of the defense. The reason he was there still on the board in the 5th round is he's not one of those workout warriors. If I have a choice between the "best" player and the "most productive" player, give me the most productive guy every time. Saints have some good linebackers, so he might have to wait a year or so to get on the field on defense if everybody stays healthy (which never happens, but it seems like everybody always assumes it will).
I'll disagree with drafting for special teams. It is critically important to be good on special teams, and more important than it has been in recent years potentially with the new kickoff rules. We'll see how that all plays out. In the last few years you didn't even need to run a kick coverage team out there. Just have your kicker knock it through the end zone. It was the most boring play in football. Now that's about to change. You need guys like Ford running around making tackles out there.
Well he also added that he well ultimately may be the only lb on roster other then Pete so I like line backer in the 5th
A, thoughts on the undrafted free agents?
I still believe they could have used one of those day 3 picks on WR B. Rice. Then the saints would really have an A grade.
I think rattler gonna be that QB from this draft that becomes a elite QB something tells me he's the saints franchise QB
Whyd you hit skip on that Fiver Ad?!
Fiver tryna RUIN my flow!
I thought the day 3 picks were solid. Finding a starter in day 3 is finding a diamond in the rough, and if they are gunna pick the eastern western kentucky or northern iowa guys... I'm more than happy with them doing it on day 3.
Ima watch but where’s madden
Uploaded!
@@JamesSkrmetta I’m late but I’m watching it now
I think you're underestimating Jaylan Ford out of Texas, he's a better linebacker than you believe, and he's an all-around type linebacker, and with him learning behind DeMario Davis. He's gonna be a steal.
Do you buy in to what some analyst are saying that because of NIL more Juniors are staying in school and the 5th rd has now became the new 7th rd where to depth in talent isn’t there like it was in previous years? That would be why they’re taking shots at Rattler and Ford in the 5th rd
That's an interesting take. I guess on the other side of that, if players are staying an extra year, the prospects you're getting are more developed and you have more info on them. So some positives and negatives.
Big Bad Bud is Sweet William now
If Ram is healthy enough to play and now you have Fuaga on the opposite side with McCoy and Ruiz inside and you just need to fill one more spot now. You gotta feel much better.
Bub looks good. Fuaga looks great. Kool Aid looks like Lattimore jr. Big question is how the left tackle position will pan. I think with the coaching changes were going to cook this year. But its a win win, because if we miss the playoffs, DA is probably gone.
It's very dependent on if they can learn and retain a completely new playbook, new scheme and if the coaches can figure out the best way to translate it to the players.
I think Means will be The Deebo for the Saints.
I think they do ok because you’re going to plug all the holes in 1 draft next year they will have 1st, 2nd and a 3rd
Saints -b+
Interesting note chicago coaching staff has 5 coaches with saints connections.
Yo James was Kool-Aid bpa?
DA said in press conference that on day 2 they had a couple defensive players that they had high grades on that they put “targets on” to go and get
Probably. Lot of boards had him Top 25
Bub means have a deep Samuel type body. Kubiak tunnel vision
Nailed it. “Bud” Means.
His real friends call him Bud. No biggie
Khristian Boyd Grade A
Kool Aid is gonna be the big nickel since Taylor struggled there. We wanted to draft Winfield for that.
I’d try him back at Free Safety like he played in college
Only the top 2 guys need to preform right away, we have depth at the other spots. Yall be so worried when we already have great players we just need depth.
we blew a 4th round pick last year with lockner. didn't fill the key spots we needed. 2 years ago we did well with the tight end, next thing we got rid of the TE coach as scape goat.
The Saints checked all the boxes ✅. It's an A.
💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I see your channel is blowing up
We flying!
I mean Shidd bub might be better than ced Wilson tho 😂
It would be so cool if Rattler works out
That would be v'cool
The quarterback the saints draft who's impact hopefully is not needed right now
I give the draft a B grade for now. Only because the Bub Means selection over Brenden Rice. I strongly disagree with you about Jaylon Ford he can flat out ball. He was a tackling machine in college.
The only way this draft works is they have a set plan to trade Lattimore, Taysom Hill and possibly Kamara post June 2nd for OL help on the left side. Right now this OL is weak. I liked Fuaga a lot, but Kool Aid was a luxury with Powers Johnson sitting right in their lap.
Kamara is going nowhere. Lattimore maybe but Taysom and kamara are staying
Bub means is going to play the role deebo Samuels play
Bub Means is a lot more like Robert Meachum than Colston
And I’m calling him bubba from now on
Bub means business bro 😴
I think that one OT is going to be the only impact player. Rattler will play in the preseason.
Kool-Aid will make an immediate impact this year.
This draft was a A. Def better tha n the last Few yrs. All these 5th rd picks will play. Mark my words! This team is getting injured left and right. No way these players don’t see the field. Also UDFA Jallin Holker is a complete beast and we have him. LET KUBIAK COOK!!!
Again no madden upload:(
Check again 🎉
How drafting a 6’2 240lbs lb from Texas a reach in the 5th round???
Bc he was graded a 7th rounder or undrafted free agent
@@JamesSkrmetta Well I’m not interested in grades just what I see on tape.
Haha really expecting 5th rounders to do anything, what a joke 😂😂
I hate people who give out grades and don't know the players. Just cause they went to a school you haven't heard of doesn't mean they suck.
@clarktownsend8991 typically that's been the case with small schools, they are usually there for a reason, Saints have been getting burned by small school players when picking higher draft picks
Puka Nacua was a 5th round pick last year
Are you Ex Miltary or Ex Athelete ?
Not ex military but some would say a current athlete. Former multi-team intramural flag football champion and adult softball league champion
Are you a saints fan
Give us an A+ Rattler was hated on and we got him extra cheap. Bub can block well and he's a 6"2 deep threat. Ford can play side line to side line and he played over 500 snaps on special team's. Boys is the nose tackle we needed to help stop the run and Josiah switched from DT to OT and only gave up 3 sacks in two year's.
BUB Means. B-U-B.
A grade for the draft. Great day for us.
Great job Mickey!
A+
Still po about the Sean Payton trade smh I knew Mickey would end up caving to Sean , old habits are hard to break, he’s been spoiling sp for so long he doesn’t know how to tell him No smh he should have stuck to his guns and demanded the John Gruden to Tampa deal for starters but to send a 3rd round pick to Denver just infuriated me, that was just dumb smh the saints don’t value draft picks enough in my opinion, Love Mickey but he should never be involved in negotiations for any thing with Sean Payton lol he just can’t say no to the guy , he loves Sean Payton they’re best friends, what they did in New Orleans together will link them forever, idk why he left although I have my suspicions but he will never find the family environment he had in New Orleans and it’s because of everything they went through with Katrina and Drew the Bensons and winning the super bowl for the first time for saints fans , it’s just such a special story with losing Mr Benson and Will Smith and Drafting Reggie Bush and getting suspended for a year over fake bs and all the records with Drew and the offense it’s just can’t be replicated, dever in a great organization in a great town with great fans but it’s not New Orleans as far as SP in concerned and it never will be lol there’s no place like home and New Orleans will always be home for Sean Payton, when he goes into the Hall of Fame it will be as a Saint, he’s to New Orleans what John Elway is to Denver he’s our favorite Son 😂❤
Let the film play
