If you want 3 inch hard rubber casters, you're actually better off to buy the 18"x12" mover's dolly. One of these is cheaper than buying 4 individual casters and their associated hardware, and it only takes a few minutes to pull it apart.

I do not know if you consider wood splitters as "wood working tools" or not, but I do! Since I heat with wood every winter, several years back I purchased their 5 ton electric hydraulic splitter and it runs like a top. I am not into speed and it is not a speedy splitter but it gets 2 cords a year done for me! And when it comes to large rounds, I bought their 10 ton manual lever operated splitter! Works great too and allows an old guy like me to break those rounds a couple of times so they are easier to pick up. I am now 73 and believe in working smarter, not harder! HA HA

Two words, Thank You.......I have been woodworking since I was 9 years old. There was no Harbor Freight back then. Fifty four years later, I am very thankful for access to HF. Harbor Freight has gotten a bad rap for years. Brand snobs. HF newest tool line, Hercules, people need to start looking in to this brand. Whether you are starting out or into the addiction for a while, remember one thing, "Down time is loss of revenue". HF helps relieve down time. Keep up these videos.

I've run into a lot of tool snobs through my work. The same ones you mentioned who think you shouldn't buy ANYTHING from Harbor freight. They change their tune when I tell them about getting a bag of 50 shop rags for $10. Or a 3 dozen count box of chip brushes for $12. My best story is my side wheel grinder. I paid about $13 for it nearly 20 years ago. I don't cut cars in half or anything like that. But every now and then I have a small metal cutting or shaping job, and it has served me well. I've also recently purchased some parts cases. $8 at Harbor freight; twice (at least) that at Lowes and Home Depot.

The heat gun is another hidden treat from Harbor Freight - they frequently go on sale for $9.99 and while they will not last as long as another brand might, they are $10 instead of $30. For light use warming wax finishes or paint cans in a cold shop, they are great deals.
Also, there is a 10 pack of small rare earth magnets for $2.99 and the $20 purple sprayer puts down paint and finish just fine, but it uses more air.

I build gaming tables for a living (custom pool tables, shuffleboard tables, bars, ect). My favorite pin nailer is a Banks 18 ga. A drop of oil each day and I haven't been able to kill it yet. Good buy.

Harbor Freight is a great place to buy a tool you didn’t think you need or probably won’t need in the future. For instance I purchased a power tile cutter for a quick job, never did it before and didn’t think I’d do it again. I’ve redone 3 bathrooms with that cheep saw. I’ve got 3 sons that when they got to driving age. I got them basic tools, so they would stop using/loosing mine. With the instructions if they broke one (socket, wrench, etc) replace it with a nice one as it’s something you are using.

Hi everyone, Great videos and thanks for the post ups. NAILS: There are not that many manufacturers of pneumatic nails in the world. So nail manufacturers mass produce and are then packaged to whoever sells them ( Senco, Duofast etc). So what you are paying mainly for is the name and packaging.

Not woodworking tools, but every shop needs these! The packs of zip ties from HF, they're less than 50% of the bigger stores and just as strong. I prefer the black ties, UV and heat resistant (the white ones get brittle over time)... Get yourself a couple magnetic parts bowls, I don't know how I got by without one before!!

100% yes on the tarps. They aren't the best but this afternoon two tarps that cost less than $5 total allowed me to cover the patio furniture I was about to refinish when a surprise rain shower rolled through.
I completely agree that they aren't meant for the long haul for many people but if you wait for a sale, you can grab a couple for when things get... interesting, and something that shouldn't get wet is about to get stuck in the rain.

I actually get the cheapest spray guns for spraying sealer. Doesn't pay to clog up a good spray gun, after a few uses you can just toss the cheapo. Also, I get shower curtains from Dollar Tree for finishing and painting, similar to what you use tarps for.

You don't need me to tell you your daughter is the star of the channel. But I'm here to tell you she is! What a cutie.
Oh, and like you, I use HF 'disposable' products. They are usually cheap enough to throw away when a DIY project is done but I donate them to our local Habitat or Goodwill stores.
People that need to move cars sideways in 'crowded' garages can use the HF moving dollies. They can be cut down to provide higher load capacity and the castor bearings benefit from added lubricant, but they cost about a tenth of the often rubbish metal ones sold online that even use the same castors!

I discovered the Braun LED lights were the very best low-cost lighting solution for my shop. I started with one suspended above my lathe where I needed bright light. It worked so well, I purchased five more of them and put them all around my shop. Those half dozen lights put out far more bright (5000K) light than the sixteen recessed lights that I had expensively, and painfully installed. Wait for a coupon and get one, you’ll see for yourself.

I bought the Banks pin nailer a few years back and have used it on just about every project. It's been great. And pin nails purchased from HF work just fine and are cheaper than the ones from Home Depot.
Another tool, which I got on sale, is one of their corded variable speed oscillating multi-tools. I was curious about this type of tool, and wasn't sure how much use I'd have for one, so I wasn't about to cough up the purchase price for a name-brand one. The HF one was maybe $25 on sale. So far, it's worked just fine and has come in handy a time or two.
I've wanted a disk grinder for some time, but figured I would only use such a tool occasionally. Not enough to justify name brand. Got one at HF for twenty bucks. The few times I've used it, it seems to work okay, tho it is a bit noisy.
I've also been happy with the various circular saw blades I've bought from them, as well as table saw blades.

My favorite Harbor Freight find is rolls of sandpaper. They have 25 foot rolls of 2 3/4” wide sand paper in 80,120,240 grits for $8 each. They have strong cloth backs but still flexible. I like how the rolls dispense the tape so you can rip off what you need. I have been making my own sanding belts out of it and they’re lasting longer than the name brand I was spending almost $3 a belt.

Just came across your harbor freight videos, I was glad to see you mention the roller stands as they have been on my mind to try for feed/outfeed on my planer. I have to say though that I have not had good luck with their pneumatic tires for dolly usage. you should check out their bar clamps too. i have a whole rack of Bessey bar clamps now, but I exclusively used harbor freight clamps for years until these were given to me.

I want the HF haters to continue to hate. Stores stay stocked up well and aren't crowded lol. I am grateful that there's a place that is affordable enough to allow me to do something I love doing. Just yesterday I was at Lowes and looked at the brad nails. Didn't buy any because of the price and figured I'd check online. I didn't think about HF but should have; that's where my nailer came from.

I know exactly what you mean about the Tarps. There are times that I have to do electronics repairs on outdoors equipment so tarp over the equipment and throw the 3" disk magnets on the unit and drape it to my work van with a few more magnets and you're good to go. ( The company has some special canopy units but I have been told they cost around $1200.00 so there is only one in the State...for roughly 60 people... None of us use it as tarps are faster and more cost effective.

The 52" bar clamp/saw guide is something else worth taking a look at. Makes breaking down sheet goods a breeze.

I have a good friend that works for one of the two industrial grade caster companies in my area, I get casters from HF and most of the nice to be able to move items I have are on casters from HB for the price you just cant go wrong.
I have several tarps for covering a table when spraying glue for laminate, I used cardboard for a long time but the tarps are much easier to store.
I have seen the "cheap" brad nails come out of the box with a ton of glue that will gum up a nail gun, that was a long time ago, If you are getting nails from a retail store instead of a distributor you are paying twice as much.

The air compressor is quiet enough that it can sit next to my work (my shed/workshop is pretty small and crowded) and not damage my ears when it comes on. I do some outdoor shows during the year, Harbor Freight has great prices on moving blankets. I line the bed of my truck, wrap up bigger pieces, and so on. They won't last forever but for the price compared to everyone else, they're great.

When the moving dollies are on sale, it's an even cheaper way to get casters! If I'm doing a project and I know I'll most likely use a tool only on that project, I buy it from HF. If it fails, I can take it back. If it dies after the project, it's still much less expensive than buying a name brand tool. I avoid bits and blades as I've only had bad luck with those.

I recently made a toolbox out of a filing cabinet. I stopped at ace hardware and grabbed some casters for it, not even thinking about HF. I saw the casters at HF, compared prices. Big difference. But, you can get the 1000 lbs dollies cheaper than the 4 casters and they hold more weight

I use HF drill bits almost exclusively. If you catch the regular set on sale you can get it for like $10!! I also got the cobalt set on sale and I am super impressed. I use metal bed frames to weld on and make stuff cause they are free but they are also pretty hard. I couldn't get through the bed frame with my drill press using a regular HF drill bit but the cobalt just went right through.

I have never been a big believer in trigger clamps, but I tried a couple of the 12" black colored ones from H.F. and actually, I am pretty impressed with them. I use the way more than I ever envisioned. Sometimes you just need a clamp to manipulate one-handed and these style of clamps are even more convenient than the clutch type F-style clamps. The heads of trigger clamps are bulkier than "regular clamps" but I now feel they have a place in the workshop.

When it comes to power tools and machines I will pick up a cheap one from HF to see how much I use it, if it's helpful, or if it would be a good addition to my shop. If I use the tool once and never look at it again I'm out less than $50 usually. If I realize I use that tool often or it has become invaluable to me, I will look into purchasing a more professional version of it. One example is my sliding circular miter saw. One I realized how much I used it and how invaluable it was, I found a great quality one from a big box store, on sale, and upgraded. I blessed a friend who I thought would benefit from the HF version, and they have since upgraded as well. The HF tool getting passed along again.

The only problem I’ve hade with the casters is they don’t like to lock. I have 4 on a workbench and the only way I can get the levers to depress is use my heel and all my weight to the point that I’m expecting to break them. Also, a good alternative to tarps is shower curtains from dollar tree. At $1.25 you can’t beat them.

Take a look at the locking mechanism, don't know which style you have, but some or most are adjustable. even if it's just by loosening the actual locking nut and bolt that holds the axle and wheel and bearing in place.

And speaking of those 16 gauge finishing nails, Harbor Freight has a 3-in-1 nailer that shoots 16 gauge finishing nails AND 18 gauge brads and staples. I used every type of nail and staple the nailer supports replacing about 75 sections of lap siding on my house and the nailer functioned flawlessly. I've since use the brads for furniture and trim inside and out and more finishing nails to build a couple heavy workbenches - The thing is a beast for around $80 (with a coupon).

Bauer saw blades. Those blades are a beast and much cheaper than Diablo. I put a 40 tooth on my skil saw and it cuts like a rough cut blade but leaves great finish. By the way. I did this when I bought the saw. I donated the 18 tooth factory blade.

on the subject of tarps, hf has a canvas tarp in the paint section. imo, they are so much better to use as drop cloths than tarps because you dont have that annoying crinkling sound all the time, and they lay down flatter and easier.

I can't disagree with any of these choices. Never used any of their air tools but the Banks nailers have excellent reviews. I've used their tarps for years. They rip like anyone else's LOL! But they're perfect for a job and cheap enough to where it's ok if you need them up but even then you can still use them. The brad nails are awesome. I've gone thru a lot of them and never had a complaint. I have used their wheels and casters professionally and they simply work. You might need to pick and choose if weight is an issue but that's it. The lumber rolling stands are fantastic! I have 2 myself and I love them. They're invaluable.

Several years ago, I took woodturning lessons from a very experienced turner. He recommended the HF Windsor Design turning gouge set. Every time you sharpen you take away metal. If you screw up, you take away lots of metal. Beginning turners screw up a lot. Wait until you know what you're doing to get the Robert Sorby gouges where a single gouge costs more than the HF set.

    • @TheReformationWoodshop

I used the HF set when I turned a little bit and they bent. Don’t know if it was because they’re horrible or because I was still learning. Probably both.

Personally, I have a policy of buying a pair of the blue and red LED mini flashlights ($2.99) every time I walk into Harbor Freight. I give the red ones to everyone I know to keep in their car. They fit easily in glove box or center console and are easy to find quickly when you need them.

I’m a wannabe luthier and I have a garage full of tools mostly from Harbor Freight and Craig’s list. Besides things like clamps, casters, and consumables, I have had good luck with the Banks pin and bread nailers. The oscillating edge and belt sander. It’s cheaper than the Rigid and Triton versions, and seems to be identical other than colors and labeling. The larger bench top drill press has been good also. Their scrollsaw looks good although I’ve hardly used it.

I love USGeneral tool cart. Good quality, fun colors, has solid accessories available, and holds tools & stickers as well as the expensive brands. I added a second pair of swivel casters (also HF) and it’s fantastic.

I've worked as an auto tech for 38 years and have had 2 of their tool carts. I use the 5 drawer at my regular job and have a 4 drawer at home, which I bought 10 years ago for $99. I've had Snap on, Mac, Matco. My main tool box is a snap on, 36 years old, can't be beat, but carts, yeah, go with harbor freight. Cars get let down on them, etc.

I don't think anyone walks into HF thinking "I'm gonna get myself some high quality stuff that's gonna last me the rest of my life." However, you CAN fond some very affordably priced tools that will serve you well for at least a few years if you're not doing professional work. They have a store full of things that can do the job for you while you save up for the "good stuff." It's all about knowing what to expect. I love what HF offers and I can't wait til they open the one they're bringing to my town. Which actually should be any day now...

This is really great content! I'd add, though, that anything you buy at the blue or orange big box store is always going to be a worse value than somewhere else. The only reason to go there is if you don't have an actual lumberyard or building supply store within driving distance.

I mostly like harbor freight. I have had pretty good luck with their stuff, clamps, basic twist drills, and other small things. Some of their more "eccentic" tools are garbage, but live and learn. Their rolling tool chests are unbeatable, and some of their electric tools aren't bad either. I have one of their drill presses, and couldn't be more pleased.

Love the Harbor Freight videos. I was on a remodeling job and needed more clamps than I had and during Covid, Lowes and Home Depot didn’t have what I needed in stock. Ran into HF and bought a dozen 12” “quick grip” style clamps. Man was I surprised. Worked like a champ and still going strong bout 18 months later for 4.00 bucks you can’t go wrong compared to the Lowes or Home Depot quick grip clamps. Highly recommended.

So my only minor disagreement is the casters. If you're going to move it often buy a bit better casters, especially with your workbench. Other than that like others have said when the moving dollies go on sale theyre cheaper than the casters by themselves
