They don't pay him because Prague city council are most likely on the take. You don't think they couldn't stop half of what He's stopped ? They have the power to do that but honesty isn't profitable.
I think most of the time they want to do something about it but the laws are complicated, and everything takes a long time on that level. The rules need to be followed, and the bad people unfortunately use it to their advantage because they know how to find the tiny holes in the law to make what they're doing legal.
I will have to put Prague on my tourist list . Love how you have kept your heritage buildings. Well done on shifting the grime out of the crevices of the city
It's kind of normal all throughout Europe not to tear buildings down needlessly, actually. Prague is also lucky that it didn't get bombed too heavily during WW2; many other historical cities in Europe, (typically, London and Berlin) were not that lucky. You can still see Prague was also affected - the Old Town Hall (yes, the one with the famous astronomical clock) is truncated on one side because it got hit during the war, and there's one 15th century church with a 20th century section, for the same reason.
it is nice to witness the fruits of undeterred labour. the sentiment of "oh it's the capital shady business is unavoidable" is universal but not infallible. people like you and videos like this stave off bad money and hard times.
Thanks Janek and Honza. I was an exchange student in Prague in 2016. At the time, Prague was still infested of scams. But due to your team’s perseverance. It seems that the city has really changed a lot for the better. Your videos have really saved me at the time and 10000s of others. You guys definitely deserve to become honorary citizens of Prague.
I really think that these scams are something government should look after on a daily basis but no, government wouldn't ever do anything unless it's outrageously obvious.
I almost naively exchanged a small amount of money at one of these kiosks when I visited Praha in 2011. Fortunately, I was able to figure out with my phone that the rates they offered were a complete scam and found more fair service at one of the exchange offices in the city.

In my city you'd probably get a fine, in a lot of cities they are very anal about residents bypassing the red tape and doing things themselves. Although sometimes if someone takes action it can shame them into fixing the problem faster.

1:36 It is not true. Business contracts typically include a clause that the agreement is void if one of the parties violates the law and is prosecuted. There are reparations involved as well for the ending of the contract due to criminal prosecution by anyone against one of the signatories of the contract. Keep up the good work! I am glad to see someone fighting these problems in Prague.
As you say though, the contract likely requires them to be prosecuted and quite possibly also found guilty. They have not been prosecuted so that clause if it indeed exists in that particular contract can't be invoked merely because a concerned citizen claims that a law is being broken, even if he can prove it. You'd have to get that prosecution process started.
@@Frag-ile Actually he said the city claimed it couldn't do anything, but it could stop the illegal activities and if there were a conviction then the contract. So for the city to say it couldn't do anything sounded like corruption.

@@jakubblaha4904 well yeah I guess he spends a lot of time in the old town square lol
I can't understand why the Prague city council don't pay you for your services to the city. But well done on doing it voluntarily.
Probably because these officials are involved or related with these scams or companies one way or another.
They don't pay him because Prague city council are most likely on the take. You don't think they couldn't stop half of what He's stopped ? They have the power to do that but honesty isn't profitable.
@@apophisstr6719 no xdd thats not true… they are talking about other things xdd
Politicians are the biggest scammers
I think most of the time they want to do something about it but the laws are complicated, and everything takes a long time on that level. The rules need to be followed, and the bad people unfortunately use it to their advantage because they know how to find the tiny holes in the law to make what they're doing legal.
Glad to see shady businesses going out of business.
Good work my friend, changing the world for the better😁👊🏻
You forgot to mention the grass growing next to the Dancing House, love locks gone, and Lime Scooters out of the water. Keep doing great things!
Nice to care about your city that much. Good to see that ordinary people can have a substantial impact.
Keep up the good work.
A Hero saved Prague Czech republic salute you efforts. Every good work results come with late good returns. 👍
I really think that these scams are something government should look after on a daily basis but no, government wouldn't ever do anything unless it's outrageously obvious.
I know right!?!?!
That's the "government" for you...
The enforcers get a cut that's why they don't care
For anyone learning Czech: It 's true, instead of "hat's off" we say "hat's down".
Same in French, "chapeau bas"
Huh...cool.
Same in Romanian, to keep the thread going ahaha :)
People like yourself give me hope for humanity. Thank you for being a force of good in the world!
I almost naively exchanged a small amount of money at one of these kiosks when I visited Praha in 2011. Fortunately, I was able to figure out with my phone that the rates they offered were a complete scam and found more fair service at one of the exchange offices in the city.
After visiting Cz in 2012, I want to thank you for all the effort you put in to improving Cz. Its the most beautiful and enchanting place I've ever visited. The buildings are just world class gorgeous, and the architecture is unparalleled. You're doing Gods work if you ask me. Love Cz and cant wait to return again in the future.
I went to Prague and I loved it. Thanks for making Prague a better city.
04:05 - I've often been tempted to buy a pressure washer so I could take care of problematic filth in my neighborhood. It's one way that civilians can handle problems that the city takes too long to perform. Love your work, and you're doing great things to improve your gorgeous city!
In my city you'd probably get a fine, in a lot of cities they are very anal about residents bypassing the red tape and doing things themselves. Although sometimes if someone takes action it can shame them into fixing the problem faster.
The moment you mentioned pressure washers I imagined you'd be pressure washing the scam artists off the street.
@@stephhhie17 there's a time honoured tradition in the UK of drawing dicks in pot holes in the road, so local government is compelled to fix the "graffiti" which is a higher priority than repairing the roads
@@EmperorSigismund I don't live in Prague, but if I were pressure washing the streets of L.A. on a volunteer basis, I'd be more than happy to hose down the scammers. "Yeah, you got a problem with this? Take it up with my boss. I don't work for the city."
@@stephhhie17 If you wear a hi-vis jacket while you're doing it, most people will assume you work for the city and will just ignore you. ;)
Janek, we need to create "THE SCAM POLICE" and recruit some warriors to fight scammers
Thanks for speaking such wonderful English! I’m a monolingual Californian, but I can understand any honest attempt a person makes speaking it, from anywhere in the world. Yours is impeccable. Glad to hear that your videos have improved some situations in your home city of Prague, and I hope to see it in person someday!
in 2015 I went to Rome and was horrified by the volume of scams. 2 scammers for every tourist. Every big city needs people like you.
When you start to expose criminals, sometimes they bite back ! Take care and Thanks for doing this work . 👍😊
It's one thing to scam people and another to attack/hurt them. These scammers are mostly cowards who just run away when you confront them.
same does not apply for mafia exchange bureus.
I'd hope he has a Concealed Carry permit, just in case.
thankfully this is not america so it just doesnt happen here that a group of people "drives-by"
Guys, you're doing a GREAT JOB! Thank you! I'm watching your videos for years and it's really impressing. I wish there were such people in other big touristic cities in Europe.
Man, proud of you, I just fear some retaliation from some of these people against you. Stay safe!
These guys are cool exposing scams in their city and working to improve the infrastructure and environment for tourists and natives alike of the city. I wish I could do something like this in my city but in America confrontations with people in public are a little more fraught with danger just because the scams are often run by larger more violent gangs.
I LOVE Prague - been there as a young kid and never got scammed any of the times BUT I love that Honest Guide helps tourists to avoid em - the city of Prague is beautiful and amazing and they have great food and beer and lovely people
Or maybe you just don't know you've been scammed 😏
Can't THANK YOU enough for such amazing service. We watch every single video with a great expectation and you never disappoint.
Seriously, you are providing not only entertainment, you are providing a service and the municipality should support you with the tourism funds.
You make the tourists to feel safe and be able to enjoy their trip, if this is not the goal of the touristic funds, tell me what it is.
Thank you once again, and know that you always get my LIKE even before the video start :)
This shows how amazing the internet can be that allows you make your city/country a better place over time :)
Dude, massive respect to the change you've helped bring along.
You actually improved your city
I only ever knew Prague because of some other kind of videos but man, its a very beautiful city and you guys actuallu helping the city become better for tourists makes me want to take a visit in the future.
That's activism! Keep it up! Respect!
You guys are a blessing ❤
I wish more of us would stand up for our cities like this.
Great work - the world needs way more people like you, helping shine a light on unscrupulous scamming and criminal cockroaches. Make the scumbags scurry.
Prague is my favorite city. I was there 5 or 6 times since I moved in Germany from Canada 8 years ago. I know about the crooks that tries to trap tourists. I've been had once and now I pay close attention to the conversion. First time I see your channel. Thank you for doing your best keeping your beautiful city honest. I can't wait to go back.
You guys have done an amazing job, I hope you get to do this worldwide to help make tourists and locals life a bit easier.
I visited Prague a while ago, it was the first time for me having an extended visit outside my home country. I loved it there and was lucky enough to avoid getting scammed. I love the metro. I was very lucky because my ATM card from my home bank in the US worked at local ATMs so I never had to exchange cash.
I still remember when that guy at the scam exchange office tried to spray you with Mace despite the plexiglass barrier between you two. There are few things more satisfying than watching an idiot Mace himself. 😂
Oh man, I gotta see that! What video is it?
@@tylerm.9408 It was one of the very early videos when Janek put signs outside of the scam exchange offices. I forgot the title and unfortunately I think the video has been taken down.

You’re a great inspiration! Appreciate how genuine you are and the service you’re providing. Looking forward to traveling to Prague! Thank you!!
Good going, Janek and Honza! Thanks from all the visitors to your wonderful city! But be careful. You're pissing off some very bad characters who could be dangerous.
Hats down to your labor of love, I can read the appreciation you have for your beautiful city. I loved Prague the first time and I'll surely be back! This kind of work it's so important for the improvement for all, real inspiration!
That's so cool that you actually made some many things happened.. I'm glad that someone also did their job by closing these places..
ive been to Prague 4 times now and every time i get scammed by these exchange places it what made me stop going to Prague. even though I'm fortunate enough to not care about a little sum that goes away, it makes me think about the ones who are less fortunate though especially that woman whos crying , these people who work there have no remorse at all . BUT seeing these changes makes me wanna go back to Prague because i really miss it deeply, its so beautiful.
you're "honestly" one of the reasons I moved to Prague
@@TheRootedWord not really surprising. The most corrupt places in Europe are in the former East Bloc countries, which is a real shame because they are the most interesting countries to visit.
@@johnlastname8752 Really? Our politicians in America are constantly legalizing corruption. They are professionals at corruption. You are just parroting propaganda. There is corruption everywhere because human beings are everywhere.
@@TheRootedWord I did say "in Europe", but even then it would be ridiculous to claim that the US is more corrupt than Hungary or Russia. I live in Europe and have have visited these countries and have a lot of friends there, so I think I have a pretty good idea of how much corruption they have. Also, I do know that not all of the former East Bloc countries are like that, especially the Baltic States.
You've got to have some balls to call out these criminals to their faces! You have my respect, sir!
I've just visited Prague recently and I had no bad experiences. I am pretty sure a very big thanks goes to this channel as well. Keep up the good work!
Your content is absolutely fantastic, great work guys!
I always got the feeling went I went to places like prauge that they were just avenues for the corporations and government to leverage historical landmarks, and the city's historical significance for profit, and that the locals didnt actually have much pride in them. You've really changed my mind on that, and I hope to revisit it some day ^^
Great video.. One SUGGESTION PLEASE!!!! I would highly recommend you do something about all the drunks hanging out outside the main train station Praha hlavní nádraží drinking alochol and harrassing pedestrians.. I spent 2 weeks in Prague last month and witnessed a fight inbetween these drunks along with them sitting on benches right when you get out and nearby bothering people... Granted there is a police officer with a dog at night by the door, during the days it is still pretty dangerous. I would love to see them cleaned up next time I visit the beautiful city. Cheers!!!
You are not the hero the cities deserve.
But you are the one the cities need.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Is amazing to see channels like yours helping change the world.
The change is coming, is taking long, but we are going to get there.
I hope the love lock issue is eventually solved , I don't know why it annoys me so much , probably because I'm a historian and love ancient gothic architecture. Plus there's something just so ignorant of destroying historical artifacts with a stupid padlock.
Hi, thanks for your efforts!
Just a question: Do you ever feel threatened by them? Have they ever tried to adversely affect you after you published the videos?
Want to know that too!!!
I Wonder what a tourist from a violent country like Mexico or Brazil would do in this situations, as a Brazilian i think that i would try to harm them as much i could If they try to scam me

This guy is the prime example of "complaining won't get you anywhere"
But is complaining did work.
One of the most satisfactory videos and stories I have ever seen. To see all you guys do for Prague and to know that actually the "city" listens and do something about it is great and big! Would love to see official restrictions or laws against hanging "love locks" all over the city and also have the authorities take care and put a fence all around that small garden in front of that funny crooked building and officially ban tourists from stepping on the statue to take pictures because all they do is destroy the monument and the garden. Kudos to you and keep up the good work.
This is the second video of yours I ve happened to watch and you have a wonderful mission for the betterment of people.Well done.
Good for you for keeping your city honest. Makes it easier for tourists like us to visit knowing we won't get scammed. I wish there were more folks like you all around the world.
what happened to the devastated plain dirt plaza you ploughed, watered and sew grass in? As a communal gardener I have a feeling of it not turning out well but even if so that is no shame at all. I can admire anyone trying to improve their home no matter the outcome as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
I was hoping for an update on that as well!
The main goal is still: getting rid of scammers in taxis
