    These were exotic stuff when i was in my electronics TV and radio repair classes in high school! One classmate eventually went to a shop that carried Sony and became quite good at repairing them. Years later when I'm living in san francisco, i met him again which was pretty cool. He was doing well fixing trinitrons and VCR's at the time, wonder what's happened to him..

    You said it before: "Never try to rejuvenate a trinitron, it will get worse". Of course this one was already quite broken, so there was not much to lose.

    • @markpirateuk
      @markpirateuk 3 роки тому +4

      Absolutely, Trinitrons do not respond to rejuvenation, in fact it can completely kill the CRT.
      Even if you had a good replacement CRT, setting it up is difficult to say the least!

      I've had some luck rejuvenating those early trinitrons, it's the later ones that don't like it.. This one is worn out due to the instant on keep the heater running thing.. The 2UK, European models I did it on haven't got that fortunately, maybe it's only the mark version with the mains transformer that has it, mark 2 had the switching type supply Shango was mentioning at the beginning.

      @@HughTVDX that’s not true - I’ve rejuved high end Sony monitors with great results, that last. Those tubes were on the market from 1995 thru to the end of the crt era. That said, you have to be careful and try to limit it to clean & balance on the 467.

    • @andershammer9307

    The Zenith dealer which I worked for in high school also sold Sony, but mostly radios. There were five techs in the shop, and two on the road, but only one who worked on/with Sony equipment. He was the equivalent of a "Rolls Royce mechanic". If memory serves, the chroma sections were nearly bulletproof, however, the HV/horizontal oscillator sections were prone to needing work.

    Hi from the UK. As a long retired TV engineer from the 1950's to 2002, I am fascinated by your terminology, and your approach to not repairing a TV. I didn't see you check the hight voltage (HT), or the CRT final anode voltage (EHT). Even if the CRT guns are low emission, the picture should focus. That there was no green in the mid to low lights, yet there was in the peak white, is quite confusing. Of course, the problem with Sony's Trinitron series wasn't only with the 'Beam Indexed' CRT, it was also their unique 'get around' circuitry. Here in the UK, where we used the PAL colour system, Sony used their 'get around' circuits which didn't make a lot of sense to us technically. Incidentally, here in the UK, old analogue TV's no longer work. We are completely digital now.

    I enjoyed the video as I’m an old Sony TV guy with some knowledge on them internally . That’s all I’d ever buy for the house, and most of them still work perfectly today even though they are put aside for new Sony LCD sets. I had to stop watching this when Harris can on the tired old KV 1210. Can’t take her, not even in purple.

    all the Trinitron TVs i've had for repair, the horizontal output transistor blew either caused the high voltage rectifier shorting, or it shorting due to the transistor blowing making it not economical to repair. most of my repairs were the good old rca xl100 ct chassis, fixed so many of them i didn't need a schematic. the xl100 chassis were used in so many rca tvs it didn't matter if it was a small one or a big floor model console tv, cold solder joints, bad chroma processor, bridge rectifier, and h-op transistor for common failures. rejuvenate the weak crt, and send it home

    Interesting old TVs. Are they all the original components? I don’t know a lot about these but VERY interesting. I volunteer at a nice living museum here in England and we are having a 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s street located at the museum including an old music/TV shop where we’ll keep old vintage TVs and I’m so keen to assist in the shop. You sure know your stuff though as you’ll know, TVs like this back in the day built up THOUSANDS of volts NOT to be messed about with. Am I right mentioning the colour gun at the end of the tube is made up of red, green and blue? I noticed the blue colour parts working. Again most interesting.

    Question - it's got a separate cathode HV power. How does a rejuvenator work exactly? My theory is reversing the flow of electrons to throw off junk on the cathode? I assume you don't need HV power anyway - you don't need the set on... but does it matter that it doesn't have the typical HV cathode going through the CRT board? (I would appreciate not having to change my underwear if I touched the CRT board when it was on lol)

    I have tried to rejuvanate, boost or kick a few of these with the same result. Sony Tubes do not respond. Here in the UK we had mostly Mullard tubes that generally did and Mazda which were very hit and miss. You;re best bet is to drive the heaters really hard from an external supply - I mean really hard! - and them hit Rejuvanate 2. It may blow the heaters but the tube is already dead so nothing to lose. The best answer for such a rare set is a new tube..... put the set back in the Chicken Coop and see if there is a tube to be had.

    TV channel 6 should be analog everywhere in the US and Canada. It’s a great way to get information out on two different formats, that being radio & TV. Leave channel 6 analog, channels 2-6 are junk for digital anyways.
