Advertising Revenue for this video goes to the NFL, I'm so sure they appreciate my effort and your time. Also a huge shout-out to Justin Timberlake for providing search deep empowering content to demonstrate this beautiful vintage television to its full potential.
I got this thing inside my home It goes electric, wavy when I turn it on Brings static thru my city, all through my home Smoke flying up, no ceiling, when we're in our zone
One thing I will say for Timberlake, back when Johnny Cash died and Timberlake was nominated alongside "Hurt" video. Timberlake won but said onstage he didn't deserve the award and it should have gone to Johnny Cash. He got my respect for that.
Honestly Shango, I fix stuff for a living like you do, and I think these repairs you do (and self criticize) are the most amazing because it shows how completely you understand the system and how it works.
These videos are exactly why I love Shango's videos. Truly a master, and when those tide pods came on, and Crystal Pepsi, I lost it laughing. It's the little attention to detail that gets me.
Tubesets rule, amazing that this heavily weather abused/flooded out, rusted set got resurrected and working. Pity you cremated the orange tuner subbber device. Enjoyed every minute of this video. keep up the great work. Brilliant patch up on that flyback TX.
Who would have ever thought that you'd see the Super Bowl playing on a 1960's GE TV that was left for dead decades ago in the desert? Your clever hacks to get it working again were brilliant!
Clever application of the blonder tongue modulator IF output. I like the touch with the product placement. Great videos, this is one of my favorite channels. Keep up the good work!
Never watch nfl because never saw the point in grown men fighting to get a ball between two sticks in a field. Iam however addicted to your channel and your tallent is incredible. Ask yourself the question. What have i learned, or how better is my life after watching nfl game? Answer, its not and in fact you are monetary poorer. Watch shango66 and you have learned something, a skill that could enrich your life, save you money make you of positive worth to society. Give me shango 66 any day over a boring childish nfl ball game.
So Cool! We had a 1960 G.E. Portable that replaced a1951 Magnavox with a dead picture tube. That G.E. was tube tech top to bottom and we got twenty two rears use out of it. It was my window on the world ! Patent 3190554 .
Hi shango, found the channel a month or so ago and just wanted to say that you are pretty amazing to watch, a bit scary, but still amazing. Please keep up these great videos. See-ya...
I was on a WestJet flight during the Super Bowl, and almost every seatback monitor with live satellite TV was tuned to the Super Bowl for the entire flight. When the airplane landed, the flight attendants announced they would leave the TV going for the last few minutes of the game. This was one of the few times I didn't see passengers rush for the door when an airplane landed.
My first solid state 19" Sears TV circa 1974 had a power supply draw the louder the audio was...picture would shrink just like this GE does when volume turned up....it was just bad or cheap circuit design. I think when this GE set has the audio fixed it will not have to be turned up as much thus not really noticing the picture is being shrunk. That said I bet even after audio is fixed picture will still shrink when turned all the way up. Pounding disco music shows were fun to watch the picture shrink with the pulse of the beat!
Vert. hight & Lin. control failure was sort of a common problems on these and similar tube sets back then, these were the cheapest of the cheap back then, fixed a lot of them Admiral made very similar sets too.
I bouhgt one of these back in 1965 which was in a blue case. It worked for about five years and then the tuner died and it was well put in the trash. It cost around $95 and was bought in a drugstore if I remember right.
Another good vintage tube product resurrection video. I recall you said in a previous video about the GE "these things usually just work" and sure enough, this does, after a bit of perseverance. The HV drop causing picture shrinkage with increased audio is because the TV does NOT like Justin TImberlake with his Hando "Romper Stomper" look. I must admit before I saw this video I'd never heard of Tide pods. They sound like a suppository.
oh new shango066 vid and wow! i'd forgotten about that set and the others as i was thinking about the philco ford (not! just been a while since we've seen anything from that place on here)
What does "do not test " mean...is that hi voltage...I do transistor radio and some tube radio repair, and just began again after 30 years of not doing it.
I bought a very similar set at Woolworth's back in the '60s. The TV costs $99.99 plus sales tax but the store's cash register could not ring sales higher than $99.99 so the cashier had to ring up the sale as $9.99 ten times, then add the sales tax. I still have the TV but I have no idea if it works.
Working wonders for our entertainment daily for we, the shut in Americans who love old electrical crap! Thanks a Million, another hour wiled away, and today, nothing new! Just great old stuff!
In late 60s there was a GE television manufactured and sold here in Brazil which is basically the same, excluding the UHF tuner. Sorry that I don't have mine anymore, the CRT was so weak that it didn't produce an image and I throw it away, it was 20 years ago. :(
Another remarkable repair. I wonder how many saw the superbowl in black and white? As for Tide I can't stand the stuff. It takes 2 washes to get that artificial chemical perfume smell off your clothes.
very similar cabinet (the back in particular) to the British KB (Kolster-Brandes) KV003 "featherlite" dual standard (405 VHF/625 UHF) portable, also from around '65, big difference is the KB was all 'hard wired' chassis, no pcb, and we didnt have 'compactrons', so all 'normal' B9A valves/tubes (some were dual section such as triode pentodes or double triodes)
It use goes to show how electrically rugged these old tube sets were; try putting a modern flat-screen set in the same conditions and you’ll be lucky if it doesn’t explode in a giant fireball! (sort of like the EOL videos on this channel) 😎
You should get a neutral density filter for your camera or just find a way to get one mounted to it. A non polarized darkening filter should reasonably fix your issues with blanking, it'll result in a lower shutter speed and more blur in quick movements but it'd be a nice compromise so it's easy to see the screens.
What, no complete teardown and reassembly using NOS period-correct date-coded parts? But seriously, I"m amazed at the picture quality, especially with the water damage. I'd call that one a win.
+The Guitologist I was thinking that too - a 1Meg resistor with a 1Meg trimpot in series might allow some adjustment for vertical linearity and be close to the original value (2Meg). The set would still need a complete re-cap but at least you'd have some control over the vertical by temporary component substitution. Fixed resistors in place of a pot have the potential to drift and affect alignment. But I don't think it's worth the time and/or money to invest in a full restoration in this instance, given the overall condition of the set plus a dead tuner.
Great resurrection. I got the same TV set many years ago. It doesn't work, but it seems good, nothing missing. Do you know where I can get the schematic? Sds Ricardo Todt PU6RIT, brazilian ham.

Probably for the best, loosing the audio when Justin Trousersnake appeared. Remember not to eat too many Tide pods between meals!
One thing I will say for Timberlake, back when Johnny Cash died and Timberlake was nominated alongside "Hurt" video. Timberlake won but said onstage he didn't deserve the award and it should have gone to Johnny Cash. He got my respect for that.
Since watching Justin's vitalizing performance, I'm a new man now
Whose to say if Google Adsense just pockets the money?
jesus shango that toddler in the hot car and the tide pods got me. Keep doing what you do man, I love it.
Honestly Shango, I fix stuff for a living like you do, and I think these repairs you do (and self criticize) are the most amazing because it shows how completely you understand the system and how it works.
This sounds leds me to believe in a high voltage leakage, probably on flyback transformer or picture tube ultor...
These videos are exactly why I love Shango's videos. Truly a master, and when those tide pods came on, and Crystal Pepsi, I lost it laughing. It's the little attention to detail that gets me.

Fix the tuner subber!
Who would have ever thought that you'd see the Super Bowl playing on a 1960's GE TV that was left for dead decades ago in the desert? Your clever hacks to get it working again were brilliant!
Beautiful old set. A TV made today would not even power on after being subjected to the abuse that one took.
the tidepods and the pepsi were fitting perfectly in the scene 👌👌
Dear Shango066, You are the most amazing person that I have ever seen getting these tV's working again, very nice job.
Clever application of the blonder tongue modulator IF output.
I like the touch with the product placement. Great videos, this is one of my favorite channels. Keep up the good work!
picture is better than most of the tvs I had growing up

ISO Guy - Agree football bores me to tears.
This gave me some understanding of the game ua-cam.com/video/a3jw79p4v7g/v-deo.html
Football was fun when games were played outside in the snow and mud.
shango
love yours way that you diagnostics and repair stuff.
its interesting to see you fix
in other form stuff.
GOD DAMN IT!!!
half an hour of repair, and it turns out to be a Tide ad. Dang it!
Shango...you are unbelievable. That TV was a mess and you still got screen on it...I knew you would the minute I saw a bit of scan. Very cool.
Mmmmm. Crusty this television is... Great video Shango. I likey watching you make working TVs from literal dust.
So Cool! We had a 1960 G.E. Portable that replaced a1951 Magnavox with a dead picture tube. That G.E. was tube tech top to bottom and we got twenty two rears use out of it. It was my window on the world ! Patent 3190554 .
I like the Simpson meter... classic look. Another great repair too.
Is that the one with 100,000 ohm per volt sensitivity? If so definitely a cool keeper.
Great to have a Shango video. Appreciate the upload.
great video as always you did it again and you always do a great job thank you for sharing this
That end shot of the working tv is well compiled.
Brilliant. Thank you for putting so much effort into a mountain stream washed bit of vintage disposable technology
Combination TV and Easy-Bake oven.
Wow, I'm astounded this was even recoverable.
Absolutely fascinating! This guy really knows his stuff.
Good work shango. I thought it was gone to hell.
This was the best Timberfake ever sounded. Good work!
I love all the police sirens in the background
My man knows all about UA-cam
Hi shango, found the channel a month or so ago and just wanted to say that you are pretty amazing to watch, a bit scary, but still amazing. Please keep up these great videos. See-ya...
Helarious, better than binge watching Plan 9 from Outerspace.
Taking nothing away from Mr. Timberlake-- this is the best way to enjoy such a solid performance! Nice.
I bought one of these in July 1965 in a store. It worked for about 5 years. The tuner quit working and it went in a dipsy dumpster.
"Baked like a toddler in a hot car" 😂 hot tot
Subigirl Forester Ouch, that hurt my brain.
Shango, you are amazing.
What a really neat and informative video! Great job!

OOH! I LOVE snacking on Tide Pods! Watch out for that heartburn though, but some hot wings will do that anyway...

nice to see this working! love the old compactrons. you got me with the tide pods
As the old saying goes, "One man's garbage is another man's treasure."
"One man's trash is another man's resurrection video."
craving that pepsi crystal! not found anymore in quebec province :P
Vert. hight & Lin. control failure was sort of a common problems on these and similar tube sets back then, these were the cheapest of the cheap back then, fixed a lot of them Admiral made very similar sets too.
Ahh lets watch some sports with a refreshing bowl of tide pods and some pepsi coke!
I know nothing of electronics and didn’t understand 99% of what you were talking about but this was quite an interesting watch 👍⚡️⚡️⚡️
I bouhgt one of these back in 1965 which was in a blue case. It worked for about five years and then the tuner died and it was well put in the trash. It cost around $95 and was bought in a drugstore if I remember right.
No vacuum bulbs were sacrificed in the making of this video

You are a genius!!! I love your video!!!
Blows my mind how an old TV can be that abused from weather etc and still function. Bet a modern tv would be toast
The GE lives another day!
oh new shango066 vid and wow! i'd forgotten about that set and the others as i was thinking about the philco ford (not! just been a while since we've seen anything from that place on here)
Amazing you can take a 52 year old set that has been in the weather for god knows how long and it can be made to work. Try that with anything modern.
Another fun video guy, thank you for posting it!
Perfect monitor to play fallout.
What does "do not test " mean...is that hi voltage...I do transistor radio and some tube radio repair, and just began again after 30 years of not doing it.

You saved 9¢!
Pro1er - Woolworths use to sell cool electronics once, like tvs, air conditioners back in the 60’s & 70’s etc. now it’s just a food supermarket.
Do you live in Oz? There have been no Woolworth's in the States since the '80s.
Pro1er - Yes I do & we have Woolworths everywhere here & Coles supermarkets as well. :)
I have two. One works fine. The other does not. The many GE items I find usually are almost completely if not completely functional.
Working wonders for our entertainment daily for we, the shut in Americans who love old electrical crap! Thanks a Million, another hour wiled away, and today, nothing new! Just great old stuff!
Thats why the audio is distorted, to prevent copyright strike?
YOU ARE A GENIUS !!!!!
Those Tide pods lol 😂
pretty amazing how 9 tubes could do so much, nice save on the fly.
This chassis looks like one from a B&W Admiral set I took apart years ago; it had compactrons as well. Probably a close sister to your chassis.
crystal pepsi AND tide pods_ oh man i missed a good party
i remember getting the jumping picture to stop by slapping the set on the side. hence OLD SLAPPY
I think he just pressed the recently used words button for the description!
another resurrection.. you're the Zombie-TV-King. BTW, those purple-mint-pods go well with crystal pepsi
Love it!!!! You going to eat all those tide pods? Bahaha
Another miracle resurrection by Shango of The Desert.
Amazing Shango.
In late 60s there was a GE television manufactured and sold here in Brazil which is basically the same, excluding the UHF tuner. Sorry that I don't have mine anymore, the CRT was so weak that it didn't produce an image and I throw it away, it was 20 years ago. :(

I’ve never tried them as I only use OMO powder. I don’t know if we have tide pods here in Australia.
I didn't watch the Super Bowl (because I can't say as I cared even slightly), but I did watch the Cubs win the World Series in black and white.
I just did a google search & no we don’t have the Tide brand here but do have other brands that make these similar pods like the Tide ones.
Miracle 33GY7 horizontal output tube, not affected by the tide pod challenge. I hope you don't mind me using your "baked like a toddler" line.
This TV is the best earraper of all!!!
What's With The Tide Podds Sitting Out?
Mabey The Audio Output Tranceformer
Is Getting Ready To Go.
Nice repair, I wish TV Repairman's where still a thing so as News paper delivery with milk.
Thank you for the latest video!
baked like a toddler in a hot car! hahaha love your darkness.
Hilarious bro, I almost spit my tidepod across the room.
I had a B&W GE as a kid with good UHF and VHF reception; remember Kennedy funeral
When you said shorted audio opt I was thinking plate to grid coupling cap
very similar cabinet (the back in particular) to the British KB (Kolster-Brandes) KV003 "featherlite" dual standard (405 VHF/625 UHF) portable, also from around '65, big difference is the KB was all 'hard wired' chassis, no pcb, and we didnt have 'compactrons', so all 'normal' B9A valves/tubes (some were dual section such as triode pentodes or double triodes)
Shango066 can make just about anything work !
Super shango066 :-) old TV magic Fantastic!
Love the tide pods. Great video

Pure gold....
Seems to be a low hour set left to die, sad.
Incredible it came to life and didnt get a short in the line transformer.

im so hungry for a tide pod and a pepsi now...
Tide pod eating could get You to the Hospital or Poison control center.
Tide pods make your arse blow bubbles when you fart.
Who wants to eat one? Is this a thing?
erik litchy - I think I will pass, thankyou. LOL 😂
thanks captain obvious, i think the viewers here are aware of that...
I don't understand the description.
Am I too drunken?
nope, not enough sober.
LOL was hurting my brain trying to understand it too. 😂🤔
I think shango066's voice recognition on his phone wasn't working very well...
too much spaghet.
I see what he did there. Pushing the phone's text prediction over and over makes really fun scripts. Hehe
Omg, tide pods in a bowl. enjoy the game. 🏈
It sounds like your running a tea kettle. Haha
Gee, five years less in the desert and it would probably work as good as new!
That's a rather nice vintage meter; don't think I'd want to destroy that.
What, no complete teardown and reassembly using NOS period-correct date-coded parts? But seriously, I"m amazed at the picture quality, especially with the water damage. I'd call that one a win.
21:40 1M pot in series with a 1M R? Might get you there.

Complete recap? You people are no fun!
Hey shango I have a very similar set that is also a sa chassis but I'm having trouble finding a schematic for it, what Sam's number did you use?
Great resurrection. I got the same TV set many years ago. It doesn't work, but it seems good, nothing missing. Do you know where I can get the schematic? Sds Ricardo Todt PU6RIT, brazilian ham.
TIDE PODS, you're Killing me, L-O-L !
22:50 Yes, my favourite songs now with extra bass
