    Small criticism - when these lyrics were first composed 400 - 500 yrs ago, the English pronunciation of the word 'wind' (as in the weather) was wind (as in wind a clock). That's why the line: "In tempest, storm and wind" no longer rhymes with 'find' because we no longer pronounce the word as it sounded all those years ago. I for one am determined to wind the clock back and sing it as it was meant to be sung!

    • @ImNotJoshPotter
      @ImNotJoshPotter 21 день тому +7

      Just looked up the middle english spelling of wind: "wynd".
      I always pronounce the rhyme when I stumble upon these in poetry.

    Great version of the carol. Merry Christmas to you guys. I can totally imagine Thorin and the rest of the Company singing this in the Blue Mountains at Yule, except they'd substitute Mahal, the name of their god, for Jesus.

    Yes! You perform Advent and Lent songs so inspiringly! Now all we need are: Veni veni Emmanuel, Adeste Fideles, and Angels we have heard on high for Christmas, plus Lenten songs for next year. ;)

    Why does this song feel as if it is being sung by a secret cult underneath a chapel as they consecrate weapons to fight demons.

    There is another side to Christmas. A deeper, darker side. We all know it, even if we try not to. This song reminds me of that.

    The best version of this I’ve ever heard. But I think “wind” in this is to be pronounced to rhyme with “find/mind/behind”. It’s an old way of pronouncing the word, and old-timers around me still say it like that, which is the way I think it’s supposed to be pronounced here. But it’s no big deal, and the song is still fantastic. God bless you all, and a Happy Christmas.

      Hah, that tripped me up the first few times. I, in my head, was expecting the "wind-up" version of the word just so it'd rhyme.
