Thanks Mike. The description was very useful. In the pre DCC days I used reed switches and relays but your method seems to be better and easier to install.
Can it be done? ...I have a couple of older, n-scale, dc locos that I want to convert to dcc, but can’t find which decoders to use. Two Con Cor PA-1’s and a dummy PB-1. Is it possible to house the two decoders in the dummy between the two PA-1’s (one with sound and one motor control only)?
@@nscalemodeltrainshowtochan4479 I have used the FastTracks Frog Juices in the past on my Atlas turnouts because they have very long frogs, and they are amazing. They don't throw the points, though, so that is why I bought the PSX unit, for the reverse loop(s).
Mike if I understand correctly the turnout gets thrown automatically but the switch kat correct or must you use your dcc controller to throw the turnout
You need a detection block and I used NCE BD20's and then to the switchkat to throw it, so on a loop two detector section at the ends of the loop, ahead of the turnout and 2 BD20's (one for each of those blocks and to a single switchkat. Mike
I just figured out how not to get ballast in the holes on Kato turnouts. The lever hole to throw the points. If you take q-tips and cut the cotton ends off they fit perfect in that slot.
@@N-Scale thx i think i might use the automated part and go from double track to single track end cap on both ends of the end cap - need to test it out - but i know already it will work - there is a Audurino circuit to accomplish same stuff ....
Hi there, I have a pretty big issue I hope you can help in some way. I cleaned my track and then ran the engine. Now the engines are stopping dead on certain sections of the track. Did I short out the transformer? I was thinking the track might have been wet. I tried different engines and they all run good in some sections but others nothing. I’m not an electrical guy and am completely stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I can give my number or call you. Anything thanks in advance. Brian
@@N-Scale I was using a pad that attaches to the box car and dropped some tidy track clean track solution and ran the engine around. All of the sudden it stopped. The train works on one section of the layout which makes me think the transformer is ok. Not sure if it was fried it would work at all.
Found it! Thanks Mike.
Dr. Fifer, I should say.
Doctor of How To.
Thanks Dr Russo.

Yes Easier !!
Thanks , Mike
thanks Mike, for now now plans for reversing on new layout but will need some detection. Good info.
That's no plans for reversing, darn auto correct.
@@craiglordable I hear you there.

Two videos in one day! Thanks Mike!
Thanks Mike, just what I wanted to know! And yes, your explanation makes sense!
Thank you Michael.

Alright Mike, now you've done it. You've got me confronting block detection. Better to do it now, I suppose. Actually -- Thank You! --dunc
I put BD20's on all my feeders for future use.
Mike
I just bought two AR1's for my reverse loops. Should I have gotten MRC AD-520's? Using Digitrax DCC.
Nope AR1's are fine
Mike, Good morning.. What type of issue did you have with the AR1? Thanks for sharing and helping us all out
It would not stay latched when reversed
great video
Thank You Blake !!

It is all possible but is it worth it would be the question. I do not do any custom installs but you might try Jerry Rowley at jwoodone@cox.net
I bought a DCC Specialties PSX-ARSC which changes frog polarity and activates the points. Haven't hitched it up yet, though. Thanks for this video!
If it works, I think I need one unit for each reversing loop, total of 2. An expensive, but simple solution. . . I hope.
@@avlisk I have never used any type of frog juicer.

@@N-Scale Thank you so much.. I have only one turnout that I'll need to control. So I assume I'll still need two BD20s and one switch kat?

Cool Idea. If you write it up with a picture or two , I will add it to the How to page on our site.

Dear mike can we do this loop with kato ho scale unitrack
Sure !!
MRC's direction sheet show the yellow wires connected to the rails inside the loop, and the red wires to the track bus - the opposite of your video.
