- This moving rendition of "Greenaway" performed by Paul Young comes from the album ""Words & Music - Sir John Betjeman & Mike Read". Liner notes for this beautiful song read as follows:
" 'Greenaway' (pronounced 'Grennaway') comes from Betjeman's 1954 collection 'A Few Late Chrysanthemums'. The poet's passion for Cornwall, and in particular the North Cornish coast was unbridled. He talked about it - he wrote about it - he loved it. References to Cornish towns, villages and the topography of the area are sprinkled liberally throughout his work. Greenaway is a north west facing stretch of turfy cliff, facing the Atlantic Ocean and close to Polzeath and Trebetherick. A walk along it enables one to see how Betjeman became enchanted with the area. I've tried to capture a feeling of isolation and the forces of nature whilst letting the words breath. The mood of the piece called for the evocative yet sensitive voice of Paul Young, former frontman with Sad Cafe and now singer with Mike and the Mechanics."

magnifique ce paul young
Wonderful song by Paul Young! ! Beautiful video!
Interesting. I just checked on Apple Music and they State this was recorded in 2006. Somehow I highly doubt that. Also shows a photo of "the other" Paul Young. Not a huge fan of that one but this sure sounds like "our" Paul Young. Thanks so much for sharing. I was able to download the song off of Apple music.
I miss you Paul, pure voice 😭

Beautiful song. R.I.P Paul Young ❣❣❣
Well done Tracy Stevens on putting this video together. Such a beautiful song sung by the late great Wythenshawe singer/songwriter Paul Young. I will share this on my FB page dedicated to Paul Young 'Wythenshawe's Paul Young singer songwriter'
Thank you Tracy
Wonderful, YOUNGY was the man
A lovely poem sung beautifully. It was a great idea of Mike Read’s to put this compilation together.
The poem is wonderful, and the song of it is in another realm, thanks to Paul Young. This catches the spirit of everything he did for music.
It is a wonderful vocal to beautiful words -- like you're experiencing that beach with your own senses. A lot of talent here. Thank you for taking time to watch and comment ❤🎶
No, I should thank you, Tracy for giving me this song.. I have tried electric guitaring for decades and now during the lockdown at the age of 78 I have mastered some fingerstyle so that I can do what I now realise I should have done in my youth; sing. Clifford T Ward, then Gordon Lightfoot (hence the guitar accompaniment) and recently Paul Young have been my teachers . They say the twang is the thang but I now know the song is the thing. When this lockdown ends I will sing Greenaway with the guitar in public as my tribute to Paul Young , and I promise you it will do him justice. What an inspiration !

Hope to see you there!
By the way, this is the Paul Young who was a member of Sad Cafe & Mike and the Mechanics. I know there were 2 English artists by the same name and wanted to clarify 🙂
Sounds good to me. thanks again Tracy
How did this musical talent evade us? Appreciation seem to always to be at the passing of the talent!
THIS IS OUTSTANDING, PURE UNADULTERATED MAGIC TO MY TIRED OLD EARS. THANKS TRACY FOR THIS SLICE OF HEAVEN ❤️

Wonderful song 🤗🧐
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Check out Paul young singing the song always the last to know, it’s brilliant, on you tube
Thank you ❤
Sad cafe has and will be always music to my ears! Sorely missed yet not forgotten.
Are we sure this is Paul? Because the other one seems to be passing this off as his own..
You're right, it almost doesn't sound like him, it's as if he's singing more naturally so as to not stamp his own identity on the song to do it justice.
