Great review! I have a 2024 FX4 and love it. When brand new I also noticed a grease smell whenever getting out of the vehicle after a drive but that went away after about 1,500 miles.
I have a Red Ford Maverick Tremor 2023 and it's fantastic with everything except for Ford should up grade with sound for lane keeping and blind spot monitoring. 14:49
Burning smell is something I experienced but it goes away. I put 44,000 miles on my 22 and I have 9,000 on my 24. But fuel smell in the oil is due to blow by and you will want to change your oil no later than 5k with 100% Synthetic engine oil.
IMO Sand mode lets you use the power more freely than mud/ruts. I wish FORD had some documenttion on exactly what each modes do so we can use them as needed. I thought Mud/Ruts cuts power to avoid slipping tires on the mud but it clearly didn't as I could see in your video. I'm now confused. I thought Sand mode allowed for more wheel spin.
I was under the same impression. I’ve found if there is any rapid change in resistance (ie small hole or ledge) Sand cuts power faster than mud/ruts. If I’m just driving on a flat beach, sand works fine.
@@DrivingLine Is there any reason to use sand mode to begin with? Going up a hill you were able to back down but on flat ground I assume you would have been stuck and switching modes would be futile at that point.
To quiet the engine noise, hang an engine blanket to the underside of the hood. The burning smell is not oil, it is plastic or rubber that is HOT. look around the exhaust or turbos. I have to make a comment here about the steering at highway speeds - I went and picked up my dads new 2024 Tremor edition yesterday and drove it on the highway and in town for an hour and a half I liked how the steering made the truck feel planted on the highway with a stiffer feel to it I thought it made control feel more connected to the road -- but hey I have a but like everyone else -- Nice Video
That smell is probably stickers and glue on parts underneath. As they get hot the glue melts off and it can smell like that. I used to work at a dealership and when test driving new vehicles it would always smell that.
I have the Lariat Hybrid model 2024 and yes it rides like a small truck but it gets very good gas ⛽ mileage. But I still have my 2010 Lariat F-150 for anything heavy.👍😎
Yeah but with just 986 pounds of payload, you can never realistically hit that tow rating. Tongue weight needs to be 10-15% of total weight. Splitting the middle, 12.5% of 6400 pounds is 800 pounds on the tongue. That leaves only 186 pounds left for you AND any other people, cargo, and accessories. If your trailer has 15% tongue weight you are overloaded from the start. Regardless, 2000 pounds towing is really low on this Tremor. I'd opt for the FX4 package instead for that reason alone. 4,000 pounds is plenty for a vehicle of this size, IMO.
The smell is normal, I've had two Mavericks FX4 and now a Tremor and both smelled like that for the first couple of miles, it went away at around 2k miles

Not in the 2024 tremor it's max towing is 2000lbs. You can get a 2024 Maverick AWD with 4K towing just not the tremor package. I have heard rumors of a refresh in 2025 that the towing capabilities may increase but as of right now it's just a rumor just as the hybrid being available in a AWD. Hope this information helps. Ford has done a refresh on the Ford Ranger which offers more towing capabilities. Just it's a body on frame design making it higher to access the frame still keeps the ground clearance comparable. Personally prefer the Maverick and 4k towing is enough for what I plan on towing.
@@anthonyc178 Your putting your vehicle, you and your passengers and other vehicles on the highway at risk. If an account occured and someone got seriously hurt they would do an investigation. If they found out you were towing over maximum manufacturers limits, not only would you be held accountable but chances are high your insurance company would deny the claim. FYI the tremor suspension is not made for heavy loads or towing and you can not get a high capacity radiator with the upgraded radiator fan. You could be doing irrevocable damage and not notice tell later because of lacking the extra cooling needed for the engine and it's components. FYI that's part of the 4k towing as well.
For total weight, yes, when properly equipped. But I'm assuming that's the weight of the car alone. Trailer will probably be at least another 1500+ pounds, so in that case, no.
I’m hoping I can figure out what’s going on with mine. It’s not noticeable at all outside. But, if you park it in the garage, you can definitely smell it.
A lot of the annoying engine noise comes from those high pressure fuel injectors. They are noisy as heck as this video demonstrates. The major downside of all the manufacturers making direct injection motors is that the fuel pump and injectors drown out all of the good sounds and produce high pitched ticking and whining.
The noise will not affect durability. Most of it is due to high pressure fuel pump, & high pressure direct fuel injection. You may be able to fit an acoustic/beauty cover from a different 2.0 eco-boost…possibly titanium/platinum escape.
After visiting dealerships discovering for myself, the socalled affordable Mavericks are as expensive as a Nissan Frontier with a V6, no way will Ford see one penny of my money.
@brianchamblee8182 well it's not a coincidence, because it's the same results regardless of dealership locations. And yea, the Maverick is extremely marked up everywhere
@pleaseadoptus yea, I've been watching the market, and they absolutely increased the msrp's on the Frontier. I'm about fed up with everything,,this is ridiculous. I'm not paying $40k plus for a stupid midsized 4x2 4 door truck. To hell with all of them.
