Hi dear fellow Musicians :) This playlist is a collection of NewJazz lessons that all show different approaches on how to play and improvise over the very same chord progression as used in the lesson above (a standard sequence of fifths in Emi): ua-cam.com/play/PLd8gNAxPUcJzqwqL21s9NExEKpk14bglb.html Enjoy :) Many regards from Oliver Prehn
People don't realize how much you are giving them in this lesson. I would like to donate and I will. As soon as I get some money I'll send you something because you are showing us more in one lesson then we could learn on our own in a lifetime, jazz is dying because we failed to share this great music and teach it two the young ones coming up behind vs. God bless the work of your hands.
@@NewJazz i subbed. but can you make a playlist series of videos from beginner to mid to advance. I honestly don't know which video to start at. like, if im in a certain level, which videos should I start with ect.

@@freeyoutube8298 Oliver's videos are very interesting: they don't have an order, and you can just pick a random one to practice, and practice a lot of time! Once you practice about 4 to 5 videos or more, you will find they all connect together. Well, you can even pick a video, and only practice the easy parts of the video.
Oliver, your teaching has enabled me to start soloing. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for not baiting your lessons with pay to unlock the rest of the lesson. For this reason I will be donating to your amazing channel.
Clearly not only an exceptional and passionate musician but also a very humble and extremely generous kind person in sharing to the world and bringing joy and knowledge to many. Thank you Oliver.
Man, you literally blew my mind with how clear cut and concise this 20 minute video was. Explaining basic and complex jazz playing in individual steps. Awesome 👏🏽
It doesn’t need to be “on the beat”.. it needs to swing. That’s something you do excellently. Your dynamic control is top top. I have yet to hear you make a mistake, so you not only have a nice touch but you’re very precise. Good pocket

Im a bassist but this video is so good. Not only teaches 51 good licks in the standart jazz progressions but it actually tells me what you are doing when you are doing it. I knew some blues, arpeggios and chromatic licks but I didn't know how to mix and match them to create the mood and emotions I aimed for, it helped me so much I will have to study that triad hand grip later with my bass to see how it applies but I guess I will just adapt it as a extended triad (octave 5th) with a 2nd or a 9th and make some cool phrases, the stacked fifths sound just great
Thank you sooooo much, Oliver. Each of your lessons are demystifying the improvising process. Your graphics, timing markers and slowing the levels down are tremendous! Yes, yes, I adore the slow motion. I realize speed will happen as I get things under my fingers. So, very glad that you have the time now to let your musical and teaching genius shine. Someone else can drive the bus. Keep playing the music, Mr Oliver!
Another great intro to several techniques. Thanks. You asked for views on slow motion......very very welcome to keen novices.....be assured. Keep safe.

Gracias!
This is just what I want. Thankyou. More please. The notation and the music demonstrating it. It's the fastest way to learn new material. People who don't develop reading skills have to rely on their ears and memory. That has it's advantages but sharing music with others can be limited in a studio situation with new material that's cleverly arranged.
Wonderfully perfect class, I love your teaching, and I dream of being able to play like this one day, thanks you Oliver for providing me with this amazing class, my congratulations for making your knowledge available with so much love and dedication
Love the way you swing, you can really tell the difference. Thank you so much Oliver for all the great information on your channel, best regards from Argentina!
Brilliant lesson Oliver ! Your best New Jazz production yet. Mixing arpeggios with blues, triad and chromatic licks is where learners struggle to decipher what is happening, so the colour coding is an ingenious idea. Although UA-cam allows users to slow videos down (or speed up!), your "intentional" slow motion explanations, as part of the lesson, are invaluable and essential for me at least.
The only bad thing about this video is the title. It doesn’t do justice to the ground it covers. I learn so much from this video! A real gem for jazz beginner. The key is, i may not be able to do it now, but now i have a much better idea of the path to do jazz piano. One example, i know what a blue scale is but i never know it can be applied in such simple manner. Thank you for putting things into context in only 20 minutes!
