the sound i've always been searching for summed up in one clear, concise video. some heroes don't wear capes.... or maybe he does, we can only see his hands.
I don't remember ever touching a piano, and I don't know how the algorithm got me here but I was mesmerized watching this and I think I'm going to try to find a keyboard tomorrow.
I don’t think there’s ever been a single video that made feel inclined to like, subscribe, comment, and add to a playlist of mine in just one single video. That changed today, with this beautiful and well constructed video. Thank you so much :)
Every so often you find somebody who, despite not even knowing they existed every preceding moment of your life, quickly comes to occupy a special place in your heart.
The thing I love about this channel is that it makes it very clear that there's no 'trick,' no 'easy' way to learn music at a high level, but he breaks it down in easy to digest parts so that it seems easy enough that you'd want to practice it - which only makes the person better by practicing. "The best way to learn Music is by playing Music" is exactly right, and this channel showcases that.
I'm self taught, and just the pentatonic hand grip alone blew me away. i have been compensating so hard to do something you effortlessly visualized in an extremely approachable way in less time than it takes me to brew a cup of tea. The hallmark of a great teacher. Thank you.
I played the piano sins I was 9. I’m 14 now and I had no lessons. I just freestyles and sometimes I played songs but I never really knew how to jazz. This helped me out so much ❤
I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate this. Actually being able to play something this beautiful takes away so much of the frustration of trying to learn how to play. Thank you for sharing this.
A book as a companion to the videos would be great, with sheet music. For example for this video there could be sheet music with maybe 5 examples of what to play with pentatonic hand grip. Patreon members could get a pdf -- a typical "free but pay for extras" model that pretty much everyone uses. Oliver is so nice he doesn't want to charge anyone for things. But he could always do "suggested price, but pay what you like" and many people will pay for sure.
@@rickhood1801 A book would be amazing for sure. Even without the voice the graphics alone are amazing. It would be interesting from a writing standpoint to turn his demo explanations into book format. The Guitar Handbook comes to mind as an endless well of perfectly useful inormation with the right mix of text and graphics.
This is the best channel I’ve come across in my channel filled life 😅 I’m so so glad to have encounter this wealth of systematic, creative, rigorous, accessible and intuitively organized/delivered content. Thank you. I am just inspired by your mind for teaching.
I'm classic piano player (I'm playing piano over 40 years) and I always wanted to learn how to play jazz because I like jazz very much. But never know how to begin and what to do. 😂 Those your videos are fantastic, and whole your chanel. Hope I'll start play jazz finally (with my 51 years) by looking and listening to you! Thank you very much for your time and great advices. ❤️🌹 (sorry for my bad English, it isn't my native language)
I've been fooling around with my keyboard for years, and this is the most inspiring thing I've seen. I could kind of improvise a bit, but it was just always the same chords/patterns. I tried this, and immediately sounded jazzier, richer and more interesting, and when I mixed it with simple chords, and scales, it sounded even better. I could sit for hours and play using this method, all from one sixteen minute lesson. Thank you so much!
the position he speaks about is basically, 3, 2, 2, 3.....this is essential info to build good chords every time.....3, 2, 2, 3 is the spaces between your fingers from each other.....so if c is your root note, 3 spaces from that is your next and then 2 from that is the next, then another 2 and then 3 and so on....good video thanks
Am I the only one who wants a video just watching Oliver playing the piano.... I'm not a musician, but I like music, his methods of playing and teaching just draw me in and keep me watching and enjoying such outstanding videos. Stay safe mate and stay as beautiful as you are ❤
Jazz piano is something that I thought to be too difficult to try at the beginner level. I actually played piano for several years previously and last year I found a teacher for the purpose of playing jazz piano one day, and he told me I can start to think about this after another one or more years of foundation. He doesn’t play jazz piano but suggested that he could refer another teacher until I’m ready. But you just showed me how easy it could be learned and executed! I stop taking his lessons later on. So happy that I came across your videos and now I’m confident to say that jazz piano isn’t something I can’t do in the near future. You are doing something very meaningful to music lovers. Thank you so much for the videos and also for not promoting stuff in your channel even when you have every right to do so. Good luck!
Classical piano is taught in a very different way and tries to avoid picking up what they consider 'bad habits' their method is mainly built around reading music and playing other people's music as opposed to creating your own and experimenting. They'd only consider composing your own music after mastering all of that, the problem is when they get to that point they've never improvised. I think it's better to learn via the improv method, while learning to read music on the side, best of both worlds.
mr. precious prehn, there´s not enough thanks i can give you! i mean for 15 years i was just playing autodidactic, finger for finger, tone by tone, just imagine of what you created your fantasy by all music noticed in life and listen what you are playing. Also some kind of visual particularities like symmetry or figures you recognize on the keys... all that made it really hard to follow classical, usual education, without losing fun or progress. But you made it possible! Thank you so much for your souly way .. sooo sympathetic!! :)
Been searching for ages to find someone who can actually explain and help me open up so many new ways to play, you have COMPLETELY changed how I play piano, Thank you 🐐

Not only was this one of the best, most clear and calming tutorials ive ever watched, I felt like he is my guardian angel taking care of me the way he spoke. So much care and passion and so relaxed I dont know what to say but thank you for that experience.
I have to say, that as a long time guitarist who is now learning jazz piano, this channel provides same kind of insights that we often use in guitar playing while learning to improvise. Might be one of the best educational piano channels on UA-cam!
The only thing better than these videos are the comments. Always positive comments, people supporting each other in diving deeper into music and positive thinking. You don't just have a UA-cam channel, Oliver, you're slowly changing the world to a better place. I love it ;)
Absolutely incredible. Thank you very much, this is truly amazing. Often "it's so easy" is not, but this is instantly applicable and opens so many other doors in the future.
Stunningly beautiful sounds! 🙂Bravo 👏I took piano lessons many years ago for harmony and theory purposes. Never got into playing any songs of music. This lessons makes me want to buy a keyboard and try. Greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area! Thanks for sharing!
This video was a shocking opportunity for me, a piano beginner, to let go of the big and heavy burden that I had always been impatiently tying myself up to lead myself to my goal. thank you too much!
This is a wonderful melodic musing I could play for hours, Thanks so much. I don't know what's more pleasing, the piano or Oliver's pleasant speaking style. ;-)
How I wish there was someone that did this with the guitar! Still there’s so much in here to unpack and transpose to the the guitar! Best channel discovery of the week!
Thanks so much Oliver, still following your brilliant work and I couldn't thank you enough influencing me into the wonderful world of Jazz. Cheers from Oz buddy 🍻🎶👋
thank you so much for another brilliant, well explained and inspirational video. You have a great gift in teaching music and I am so grateful you take the time to share this with us.
Struggling years ago with no reference & proper guidance to know it's called a penatonic today, really is a great help & rediscovery. Thank you Oliver. Wished I met U years ago but it's never too late... So they say.
Your video is just amazing, thanks a lot for sharing this penta position that works so well by only "moving" it up and down for a semi tone. It is like you learn the piano without knowing the music theory. Before your video, I thought that playing "free jazz" was the very last step of the Jazz music (I am still unable to pass the 1st one...) but now, my piano makes incredible song... thanks again. I pressed all the thumb I could on your video!!!
Excellent! It reminds me of Chopsticks song everybody can learn in 5 minutes and sound like a pro. This method is super coz it further gives room for improvisation. I'm going to clean out the dusty piano now and jazz it. Thank you Sir.
feel so blessed to have find your channel. I ve been struggling with piano learning for so long. gave up many times. Now ur videos are my soul's salvation. Thank you for the heavenly beauty you share with the world. Too bad i live too far from France to study with you.
It's a clever one this. Sliding the 4th to the 5th when playing a pentatonic scale in the right hand starting from the 5th degree of that in the left hand and then reverting it back to a route note pentatonic scale and repeating gives you that expanded sophisticated jazz sound. Much enjoyed
He is like that music teacher who always is chill and plays jazz between his sentences, who everybody loves
His voice is so soothing 😌
Smooth as whipped melted Butter on toasted bread 🧈😋
Smothered with classy and relaxing music. God given gift to us All!!❤

Why have I had piano lessons. 40 years of rock blues guitar….. bands, etc…. I NEVER heard of this…. Awesome.
this is not just a lesson it's an inspiration!

OK, dude. Seriously, WRITE A MUSIC BOOK!!!! I would DEFINATELY buy it and I know everyone else would, too!!!!
But perhaps video is a superior medium for instruction? I think so.
@@johncitizen8828 It all depends, some people respond to the mediums differently. It sure is nice not to have a screen sometimes.
@@nebula0697 That's sort of psychological approach that expands a lot the way we understand the process of learning in deeper levels...
