Serbia are certainly bringing about a whole new genre of music to us Eurovision folk. As long as its sounds like this year and last year, I'm all for it
I am OBSESSED with this song. "Overthinking" be damned, this is just the right amount of analysis we need for a song oozing with symbolism. I swear, Luke Black really just wrote a song specifically for me and injected it right into my veins. Outstanding song and I hope this gets the recognition it deserves in Liverpool.
Serbia is sooo underated thia year. This is easly top 10 or top 5. Like message is soo strong and music itself is so original and not generic like 90% of esc this year
Literal or metaphorical sleep as an escape from suffering seems to be a theme this year. I can think of Serbia, Latvia, and Spain, three very different songs that treat the topic from different perspectives. A lovely trilogy.
When I first saw the performance of the national final, I didn't really get the video-game theme. But now, after this video, I feel like the puzzle is now complete. Hope for better graphics and costumes in Liverpool and this will be an all time favourite!
This is why is important to have new interesting entries in Eurovision. we get to discover new interesting artists offering different styles. basic eurofans only care for rankings, if they had to choose, Eurovision would be all Fureiras and Loreens one after the other😪
tbh i’m not a huge fan of the song, but because of this video i can at least understand him and the song a lot more. i like the idea and meaning of the song, he’s very relatable, and while that doesnt suddenly make me love the song, i can appreciate it more than i did before. thanks for that!!
As a covid gamer, definitely relate a lot to this, regressing to comfort in a world that doesn't exist and where tasks are given to you. Perhaps it's a chance encounter with my first Eurovision (especially seeing the age of some of the contestants and feeling wild that some are young 20's or even teens!). Much respect for it and I actually really enjoy it.
The song jumped several ranks upwards on my list after I finished watching this video. Thank you for sparking a newfound appreciation for Samo Mi Se Spava within me. ❤
Such an AMAZING analysis! This is HOW it should be done! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! SERBIA will save the world! (What is going on with this country?!) Serbia has set NEW STANDARDS unseen before. Should we say anything about KONSTRAKTA?! BEAUTY will save the world! THANK you Serbia for everything!
Bravo, genius explanation.Thanx for mentioning Konstraktas Evo,obecavam! It's beautiful, lavanda and patchouli, great minds, both, but unfortunately on Eurovision politics are intruder.
That's a good analysis! Also thank you for referencing the paper about climate anxiety as I am studying youth-work at university and it might be helpful in my studies.
Thanks for another great vid! gonna be honest, i think i might be the exception here that actually had a 2020 better than 2023 the themes of dejection at current events connect on a deep level
Highly recommend listening to Konstrakta's new song, mentioned at the end of this fantastic video. It's truly a piece of amazing art and very catchy too.
Our national broadcaster should include English translation of song titles for national selection so people can immediately know what title means. "Samo mi se spava" many people translate by online translator incorrectly as "I am just sleepy". That has much less impact than "I just want to sleep forever"
@@hazy-skies2630 you can't translate them separately. "Samo" is "just". Me=to me, se=untranslatable, similar to"myself" but not with that meaning in this context, spava=sleep, but the verb construction of Luke's sentence doesn't correspond to the English one ( I just wanna sleep, I feel like sleeping all the time) and doesn't exist in English.
@@hazy-skies2630 Serbian grammar doesn't always literally correspondent to English one. samo mi se ... can be translated as "I just want to"... then add verb /sleep, eat, live, fight, sing (spava, jede, živi, bori, peva) and you get "verb is making me only want to do that" there is alternative way to say the say, as Luke is singing "želim zauvek da spavam" which literally means "I want just forever to sleep". Serbian is like a Yoda speaks, it can be used backwards to make a point. that is why google translate fails, and they should put proper translation to avoid confusion. where you from?
@@colinafobe2152 I'm italian but I speak russian so I 'm a bit confused because serbian is a bit less slavic, like the presence of the verb "to be" LMAO also I thought samo meant "to me, myself" and it means "just". Well I never really cared about being exposed to serbian until last year ESC but I'm recently getting into balkan languages.
@@tead5675 Thank you, I can really catch the vibe in his words but I wanted to catch whether the samo the mi or the se stood for "I want to sleep" cause they all looked like synonims to me hahah
People with depression tend to have out of body experience, feelings separated out of them, feelings maybe this life is not real... All understandable.
I really like your videos, they're really well explained and funny :) just an ever ending question: why the euopean map in the opening/ending is a from the 1910? xDD That always catch me and I never comment it Thanks a lot, you're amazing
This is an interesting question. The map isn't supposed to be accurate and up-to-date. If it were just a current map then this could be the intro to ANY Eurovision channel. But using an old map is supposed to be a nod to the idea of the "old world," and an indication that we're coming at these songs more from an historical and academic perspective rather than with deep contemporary knowledge. Our first big opening was a microphone bursting through a Renaissance map of Europe, and we like that idea of new pop music colliding with old traditions and customs.

Luke Black is my biggest grower ❤
Serbia has always exceeded expectations at Eurovision, so innovative and memorable.
Such a deep understanding and analisys, thank You. We (Serbia) are proud of Luka (and Konstrakta).
Literal or metaphorical sleep as an escape from suffering seems to be a theme this year. I can think of Serbia, Latvia, and Spain, three very different songs that treat the topic from different perspectives. A lovely trilogy.
These three are my favourite songs!
Maybe they speak to me cause I’m always tired lol
🙂
All three are basically my top 3, but not in the order you mentioned haha
i love all the three songs so much :’)
Konstracta blew me away, I’m a great fan
After this deep analysis, I love this song even more.
Omg his song is profoundly deep. That makes me love this song so much. 💗
This video makes me like Serbia’s song even more now that I know all the symbolism!
Bang on! Luka for the win! 🏆🏆🏆

Great video! Thanks from Moscow ✌️
You're so amazing, I have no words to say how deep this was, I thought I understood the song, but you nailed it. ❤ Love from the Konstraktaland

Impressive analysis. Your drive for truth, research and deeper understanding is awesome. Thank you for such a great comentary.
This was a great video and it will immediately bump the song up in my rankings!
I find these videos are really helping me get into this year's contest - some of these songs have layers.

Yesssss! Finally! Thank you!
It's quite funny for polish people, because in polish there is phrase "Samo mi się spawa" that is spoken similar and means "It's welding by itself"
Highly recommend listening to Konstrakta's new song, mentioned at the end of this fantastic video. It's truly a piece of amazing art and very catchy too.
Good analysis, good job! 👏👏 And your dog is beautiful! ❤️

I relate to this song so much especially after the pandemic;;;

I did not like the song as I could barely hear his singing.
The meaning is indeed fascinating
Great video! Could you potentially do Austria and Estonia? They both have interesting themes (especially Austria) that I’d love to see in more detail!
