Overthinking It subjects the popular culture to a level of scrutiny it probably doesn't deserve.

I am OBSESSED with this song. "Overthinking" be damned, this is just the right amount of analysis we need for a song oozing with symbolism. I swear, Luke Black really just wrote a song specifically for me and injected it right into my veins. Outstanding song and I hope this gets the recognition it deserves in Liverpool.
+++++
Serbia are certainly bringing about a whole new genre of music to us Eurovision folk. As long as its sounds like this year and last year, I'm all for it
Serbia entering new alternative era of Eurovision and I'm living for it!
Serbia is sooo underated thia year. This is easly top 10 or top 5. Like message is soo strong and music itself is so original and not generic like 90% of esc this year
Luke Black is my biggest grower ❤
Serbia has always exceeded expectations at Eurovision, so innovative and memorable.
Such a deep understanding and analisys, thank You. We (Serbia) are proud of Luka (and Konstrakta).
Konstracta blew me away, I’m a great fan
As a gamer, I can feel this song.
Thanks from Serbia. ❤
Luke is really special.❤
I love Luke ❤ He’s probably the most wholesome guy in the contest right now and I feel like me and him could be such good gaming buddies!
As a covid gamer, definitely relate a lot to this, regressing to comfort in a world that doesn't exist and where tasks are given to you. Perhaps it's a chance encounter with my first Eurovision (especially seeing the age of some of the contestants and feeling wild that some are young 20's or even teens!).
Much respect for it and I actually really enjoy it.
This video makes me like Serbia’s song even more now that I know all the symbolism!
You`re a master analyzer.
In the target. Well done 👍
Great video! Thanks from Moscow ✌️
tbh i’m not a huge fan of the song, but because of this video i can at least understand him and the song a lot more. i like the idea and meaning of the song, he’s very relatable, and while that doesnt suddenly make me love the song, i can appreciate it more than i did before. thanks for that!!
I wish more people are like you, who can still not like the song but understand the artistry behind it♡
I find these videos are really helping me get into this year's contest - some of these songs have layers.
Bravo Luka, ta tri prsta mnogo govore o tebi.... Originalan, fascinantan, odličan, kompletan.... Srećno u Liverpulu.... 👋👍❤️🇲🇪🇷🇸
Oh man, you are genius!
The way he says Čačak 😂😂😂
hahahahahahaha I'm sorry but it's hilarious 😂
Its time to win new sound on Esc ..Go Luke ❤
Impressive analysis. Your drive for truth, research and deeper understanding is awesome. Thank you for such a great comentary.
Thank you ❤️
Gooo Luke ❤️🦞🔥
I'd always rather take overthinking than underthinking, which most of the other reviewers do.
This was fascinating 🖤
I was looking forward to this analysis. ❤❤❤
You really did your homework!
Добар је Лука, бољег нисмо могли да изаберемо ове године. 😁🇷🇸
Pa baš je izabran pravi i u odnosu na ostale, sve ih stavio u senku.... 👋🦀🇲🇪🍀🇷🇸❤️
Such an AMAZING analysis!
This is HOW it should be done!
BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!
SERBIA will save the world!
(What is going on with this country?!)
Serbia has set NEW STANDARDS unseen before.
Should we say anything about KONSTRAKTA?!
BEAUTY will save the world!
THANK you Serbia for everything!
Wow...great work! And what an amazing analysis again. It is just what I was looking for. Thank you!
BRILLANTE INTERPRETACIÓN!! AMO esta canción. Amo su interpretación, el ambiente, etcetera
awesomely researched, as always
Odlična, kompletna analiza!
Bravo!
The best analysis of the song. You hit the nail on the head. Well done. ❤
Our national broadcaster should include English translation of song titles for national selection so people can immediately know what title means. "Samo mi se spava" many people translate by online translator incorrectly as "I am just sleepy". That has much less impact than "I just want to sleep forever"
Could you explain the synthax?
Like "spava" must be sleep, but I don't get what the words "samo" "mi" and "se" mean when sees a single.
@@hazy-skies2630 you can't translate them separately. "Samo" is "just". Me=to me, se=untranslatable, similar to"myself" but not with that meaning in this context, spava=sleep, but the verb construction of Luke's sentence doesn't correspond to the English one ( I just wanna sleep, I feel like sleeping all the time) and doesn't exist in English.
@@hazy-skies2630 Serbian grammar doesn't always literally correspondent to English one. samo mi se ... can be translated as "I just want to"... then add verb /sleep, eat, live, fight, sing (spava, jede, živi, bori, peva) and you get "verb is making me only want to do that" there is alternative way to say the say, as Luke is singing "želim zauvek da spavam" which literally means "I want just forever to sleep". Serbian is like a Yoda speaks, it can be used backwards to make a point. that is why google translate fails, and they should put proper translation to avoid confusion. where you from?
@@colinafobe2152 I'm italian but I speak russian so I 'm a bit confused because serbian is a bit less slavic, like the presence of the verb "to be" LMAO
also I thought samo meant "to me, myself" and it means "just". Well I never really cared about being exposed to serbian until last year ESC but I'm recently getting into balkan languages.
@@tead5675 Thank you, I can really catch the vibe in his words but I wanted to catch whether the samo the mi or the se stood for "I want to sleep" cause they all looked like synonims to me hahah
Great analysis!
That's a good analysis! Also thank you for referencing the paper about climate anxiety as I am studying youth-work at university and it might be helpful in my studies.
I FUCKING LOVE LUKE
💤✊🦞💤✊🦞💤✊🦞🦞🦞🦞 Thanks ❤
Thanks from 🇷🇸
Please do Poland’s Jann Gladiator (it’s not like there’s anything to overthink in “Solo” anyway..) 🤣
Bravo, genius explanation.Thanx for mentioning Konstraktas Evo,obecavam! It's beautiful, lavanda and patchouli, great minds, both, but unfortunately on Eurovision politics are intruder.
Amazing analysis 🙌
the sims thing is so cool, i had no idea thats what he was referencing
"Great Serbian minds think alike"
So truee
Thanks for another great vid!
gonna be honest, i think i might be the exception here that actually had a 2020 better than 2023
the themes of dejection at current events connect on a deep level
I was waiting for that 'girl call universal'😁
I thought it was "girl call universal"
I relate to this song so much especially after the pandemic;;;
I did wonder if the wave was a Sims reference - nice to know I was right
Thanks very much for nice explanation 😊
Thank you for your great analysis! I love, love, love it!!!
wow! ❤💙🤍
Wow great ❤thanks
01:47, funny thing, the somewhat red-haired girl representing Austria, Teya, is Serbian too 😊
I know, been practicing pronouncing her name. I think I got it.
@@overthinkingit oh, this guy and his lines. Love it. 🤣🤣🤣
I think she participated in serbian esc preselection 2020
@@bisiblis yes, as Thea Devy with Sudnji dan 😀
Also one of the Slovenian band members this year is also Serbian.
Cha-cha-k 😂
Divan grad Čačak.... 👋❤️👍🇷🇸
@@systemupdates___ Finland also loves Cha-cha-k, so much so they wrote a song about it this year. Cacak representation.
The Diablo 4 ending was so meta 😅👍
Amazing review. Thaaaank you ❤
Cha cha chak 🤣🤣🤣
I did not like the song as I could barely hear his singing.
The meaning is indeed fascinating
❤❤❤❤
0:06 game over
I really like your videos, they're really well explained and funny :)
just an ever ending question: why the euopean map in the opening/ending is a from the 1910? xDD
That always catch me and I never comment it
Thanks a lot, you're amazing
This is an interesting question. The map isn't supposed to be accurate and up-to-date. If it were just a current map then this could be the intro to ANY Eurovision channel. But using an old map is supposed to be a nod to the idea of the "old world," and an indication that we're coming at these songs more from an historical and academic perspective rather than with deep contemporary knowledge. Our first big opening was a microphone bursting through a Renaissance map of Europe, and we like that idea of new pop music colliding with old traditions and customs.
Thank you for the beagle footage! So... The German song will be next?
That was a basset hound.
@@andrijacerinikolic7063 #hero
Great video! Could you potentially do Austria and Estonia? They both have interesting themes (especially Austria) that I’d love to see in more detail!
I don't want a Lord of the Lost Fortnight skin......I want a Lord of the Lost Smite event!
Overthink Romania!! I'm thinking there has to be something I'm missing there
Love the phineas and ferb reference😂❤ why did nobody commented about it 😅
The robot you can just unplug is very Doofenshmirtz. Waiting for somebody to mention the Undertale screenshot. 🙂
Sad dog videos: those videos about dogs with sad stories like the ones from The Dodo (cry guaranteed, if you have a heart).
🦞.. yes, but what’s with the lobster?
I'm waiting for Germany ( great vid btw :) )
I am dismayed at who actually won Eurovision 2023. There were a few good contenders.
Yeah Nine Inch Nails! If only for two seconds 😅
please do germany next!
First, sorry for the long comment but it needs to be long to be complete and on point.
I don't like your analysis or explanatioj of Luke's song. It gives to much attention on supposed Luke's personal stuff while forgeting all the things you mention happened during c ovid when most people were sad, plus some lost loved ones. Also online mental support like with his letters was a common thing. So it's not ok to forget wath was the spirit of the moment and turn this song into some personal struggle. This is milles if not oceans away from beeing that superficial.
You analysis throws people of the path of trully understand the song.
I wrote poetry myself so I know/learned how the process works, from the inspiration to making good or bad lyrics. Good lyrics come only from the soul and can be personal in rare ocasions and in pop when we talk of music. But when it comes to art personal feelings and things you do,, like playing games are ALWAYS just a sourrce to get ideas and inspiration to the ways of presenting/pointing out bigger society related issuues. So the song is not about Luke's personal feeling of sadness and wanting to hide from it in games and struggle to come out of it.
This song and its presentation is about a very urgent need for the people of the world to wake up and see the control they are under everyday and that someone is obviously pulling the strings. So if you constantly escape from thinking about reality and life is like a game were someone clearly made a system of control. The same system produced the world in fire. So to be be free and create a better world, we need to wake up, person by person and refuse control so we can beat the bad system. That's why the dancers are hooked by 'strings' but so is Luke, only his 'string' is more comfortable bed because he's the midlle player controling lover lplayers. So Luke wakes up to the presence of control and sees the world as it is at fist Hello! and gets free from the monstrum system at the second Helllo!, later frees the others by unhooking them from the system and control. So the system lose its power and enemy, the system, is defetaed.
There is one thing more visible to us Serbian speakers. After both Hello! we have background completely hypnotic voice saying ''spavaj'' wich mmeans ''go to sleep'' like a subliminal order. That's the system trying to bring person who wake up back to control or so to say dream/zombi world.
Also lyrics ''I don't want to choose my fighter'' are not about escaping from the problem but about not wanting to pick sides when you know some problem in question is generated by system in control creating constant conflict so it can control the world. It can be simple things like men against women to any major thing. The following lyrics ''who's taking control of me'' are confirmation of that since, they mark the moment when person becomes aware of the control and starts thinking who's the one making us to constantly pick sides. So, will you open your eyes and wake up?!
👍
He didn't take anything away from any other interpretation, just contextualized it. Get off your high horse
i wish to have friends in high places and mommy and daddy that can buy the whole competition. But my parents are dead, and there are no friends in high places - only enemies. When the censorship stops, the truth will come out - until then I will be marked as an enemy of the regime.
I found everything about this song sonically irritating. This video gave me something more to appreciate but I think there are just too many signifiers I have no connection to.
Did you hear the audio version first...?
@@egyptianhibiscus9203 I always watch the version that goes on the playlist.
Luke is a serious cringe lord
All hate to luke
Hate? Because you don't like him?

Evo i ti. Čim komentarišeš.
Y'all should do a video on Poland and the irony of that NF being 'allegedly' rigged against Jann while Jann's lyrics and meaning of the song is essentially literally about such a situation
The next analysis should be ''who the hell is Edgar ?''. That could be a great review.
Literal or metaphorical sleep as an escape from suffering seems to be a theme this year. I can think of Serbia, Latvia, and Spain, three very different songs that treat the topic from different perspectives. A lovely trilogy.
These three are my favourite songs!
Maybe they speak to me cause I’m always tired lol
🙂
All three are basically my top 3, but not in the order you mentioned haha
i love all the three songs so much :’)
Great analysis!
i remember u from last year konstrakta analysis, lots of love. love this song and the stadge performance. x
Brilliant analysis and choice of clips for this video. Well done.
After this deep analysis, I love this song even more.
Bang on! Luka for the win! 🏆🏆🏆
This was a great video and it will immediately bump the song up in my rankings!
This is why is important to have new interesting entries in Eurovision. we get to discover new interesting artists offering different styles. basic eurofans only care for rankings, if they had to choose, Eurovision would be all Fureiras and Loreens one after the other😪
When I first saw the performance of the national final, I didn't really get the video-game theme. But now, after this video, I feel like the puzzle is now complete. Hope for better graphics and costumes in Liverpool and this will be an all time favourite!
You're so amazing, I have no words to say how deep this was, I thought I understood the song, but you nailed it. ❤ Love from the Konstraktaland
Bravo Luka!Bravo Čačak!❤
Great analysis as always. ❤
The way you pronounce "Čačak"....😅
Yeah, it’s hilarious when foreigners place the stress on the second syllable instead of the first. 😂
Omg his song is profoundly deep. That makes me love this song so much. 💗
Luke is the only man I've seen reference the matrix recently that appears to have actually seen the film
The song jumped several ranks upwards on my list after I finished watching this video. Thank you for sparking a newfound appreciation for Samo Mi Se Spava within me. ❤
Excellent analysis, thank you 😊
Wow, love your deep analysis
Best song esc 23
Highly recommend listening to Konstrakta's new song, mentioned at the end of this fantastic video. It's truly a piece of amazing art and very catchy too.
