My favorite subclass is "The Dad", you take spy with cloak and dagger and hide in one corner the entire game. Never to be seen again.

I think there are two more worth talking about. The Pepper Boy (Scout with Shortstop, Guillotine, and Wrap Assassin) turns scout into a pure midranger who never really runs out of harassment tools, and the Angel of Death (Demoman with BASE Jumper and Scottish Resistance) can essentially deny an entire map if played correctly.
You fool, trying to give ranged flava a real name, accept the almighty lord Smithsound Team fort two.
You shan’t regret it.

I like how Demoknight exists solely because default Demo sucks at short range encounters, so the devs gave Demo players an option: sacrifice some mid range power (stickies) for short range security (shields).
And then they realized that you can double down and gave Demo the booties and a bunch of swords, flipping the script and giving Demo a completely new playstyle.
And then they nerfed the switch to speed on the swords
@@owenblount7334 and even still, ditching the boots for a grenade launcher is still the better option, almost solely because of sentries.
Can't aim your pipes? Shit at sticky spamming? Can't even main medic? Oh I've got the solution for you! Try out the new subclass aka demoknight! Sound cool on paper and might be too advanced for you like how you play pyro but it actually isnt! All you have to do is spam melee and now you have become a part of (The Corrupted Generation of Demo mains)! Here's the neat part. Trimping is 99.9% of skill that demoknight takes and its not even close to the difficulty of playing soldier, scout and spy. You're useless against sentries and players that have more than 500 hours in the game and it isnt even that much compared to 7k per average.
Well, there is where you are wrong. Demo needs only his bottle to fight anyone. Its just that during one of his more drunk nights, he found a sword and shield.

I kind of made my own sub-class for tf2, “bird scout”
Basically, your entire load out consists of weapons made to increase your jump height (for me, it’s the Soda Popper, the Winger and the Atomizer)

I love how the subclasses generally offer a counter-balance to the core gameplay.
Namely, taking characters who are made to CC and making them 1v1 Gods.
Battle medic is a perfectly viable subclass.
Why is everyone trying to votekick me?
Honestly there could be a hoovy on your team feeding sandviches to the enemy team, but if there's a battle medic, they're the one getting votekicked.

Subclasses are arguably one of the main reasons why TF2 is so unique amongst other FPS games. The fact that you can make a 'black Scottish cyclops' become a fucking samurai with a steering wheel as a shield is incredibly unique and I'm glad someone finally brought it up.
Edit: HOLY CRAP MUM GET THE CAMERA I'M FAMOUS
It breathes new life to a class that might get stale for some or just ain't their thing.
And it also helps Valve stick to just their 9 classes and not add more classes which can get convoluted and confusing fast.
It's like an extra ingredient to a meal you're familiar with.

@@AnnonymousCommentor28 Exactly! This is one of the things that makes TF2 special compared to other class-based FPS games (cough-cough-VALORANT-cough-OVERWATCH). Valve doesn't constantly add classes. Instead, they make an existing character that the fanbase already loves gain a new characteristic that encourages more people to play it.

Just got this in my recommended and holy shit dude, great job. Editing is on point, track picks are based as fuck (the fact anyone even remembers White Light is crazy to me), and the clips are a rush of adrenaline. Not to mention the really nice analyses on the different subclasses. Honestly surprised you don't have more subscribers, man.
A cool subclass I found is the Roamer Pyro. You use the thermal thruster to get to vantage points and kill your oponents quickly with either the Backburner or the Dragon's Fury. You can use the Powerjack, for more horizontal mobility, or the Backscratcher, so you never ever need to call for medic, and just stay in enemy lines forever. Essentially like the Battle Engie, but more mobility and pyro. Cool video!
I find Pyro with the Dragon's Fury a subclass the same way Engie with Gunslinger is a Combat Engineer. Playing as "the Fyro" in a roamer style is one the most fun experiences I had for a while in the game, since regular Pyro can be quite limited on their performance when being going for aggression. I also find the Axtinguisher a decent choice as Roamer, it isn't consistent but you can deal hell damage if you time a good melee hit with a fire shot and a goomba stom on the enemy, it is dopamine inducing.
@@catke590 I mean, the axtinguisher is definitely a good choice, it's just sort of weird to me, because the dragon's fury already has all the combo shit built in, so I mainly have everything else as utility, or the schorch shot if I REALLY want to cause pain. It is understandable if you want a finisher melee with a speed boost though.
Detonator is probably better tbh.
@@vyor8837 Detonator may let you keep a damaging secondary, but you don't get as much distance or heights with it, and you take damage from the explosion. It can let you play like a roamer, but it's not as forgiving as the jetpack for the role.

On the topic of Subclasses, something I recently found out I tried doing as a kid was play a "Support Scout", where I ran Candy Cane, Mad Milk, and Scattergun (but Force-A-Nature would probably work better), and I assume my plan at the time was to leave health packs around with the Candy Cane and use Mad Milk on enemies so I can keep my team healed... as Scout. Instead of playing Medic, I tried turning Scout into Medic. I have no clue what I was thinking, if it worked for me, or if it's even a viable playstyle.
Basically a Fast Medic that can push enemies back with its shotgun
You pretty much figured out the MVM Scout playstyle without even knowing it.

i used to play "support scout" with a similar loadout (Fan-O-War to run in and mark the thiccest enemy for my team to finish him off faster, Mad Milk to heal my team, and The Shortstop to sprinkle some damage myself while not getting too close and push back enemies who get too close)
I like that you used Margret Tatcher as one of the heads, that's very fitting for Demo.

Still maintain hybrid options, with demo using grenade launcher and soldier using liberty-gunboats or jumper-shotgun

I think the only major subclass you missed is Huntsman sniper. I think the line between subclass and "slightly different playstyle" is pretty thin. I'd personally say it's a subclass if it fundamentally changes how your own team and the enemy interacts with you.
The Plog isn't a subclass despite being a different playstyle because to the enemy the fundamental rule of: "try not to get set on fire" stays the same. A Trolldier doesn't really change the fact that the enemy has to look out for bombing soldiers (Maybe employing sentry guns, snipers, or vigilant heavies to shoot them down when they try and get that sick med pick; But it does change how their own team perceives them, for example a normal soldier is a great person to Kritz, a trolldier is not.
That's my personal definition anyway, but I main medic so my entire view of every class basically boils down to how dangerous/useful they are.
To be honest, there are only four subclasses in TF2:
-Demoknight/Hybridknight
-Battle Engie
-Trolldier
-And the Huntsman Sniper.
This is the case if you base the idea of a subclass on some item or group of items that fundamentally rework the class' functionality. For example, any Demoman can become a Demoknight if they equip a shield of some kind. Trading high explosive damage output for the ability to move incredibly fast in short bursts fundamentally changes the way you play as that class. All of a sudden, you are taking more risks, getting closer to your opponents, and using your melee weapon much more frequently.
On the other hand, with other "subclasses" such as:
-Fat Scout
-Battle Medic
-Pybro
-and Gun Spy,
They don't rely off of weapons that work incredibly different to change the way they function at their core. Their effectiveness in combat has not moved to something else completely different without incurring the penalty of just being worse by not using one major part of their class' capability to operate successfully. A Fat Scout is just the Heavy using only his shotgun and fists to take down opponents and never using their minigun, Battle Medic is just using the Blutsauger/Overdose and Ubersaw for combat and never using the Medigun to assist their teammates, Pybro isn't using different weapons to completely change the way that Pyro functions at its core, and as a result is still the Pyro but equipped more for support over offensive play, and Gun Spy is just Spy using his revolver over his knife to get kills at-range.
Obviously, using different weapons for any class will make slight tweaks to how they are played at their best, but they aren't totally different from how they were originally. Weapons and items that create major overhauls of the class' innerworkings, such as altering movement speed, max health, and how to do damage in the first place create subclasses. Merely deciding that you are going to play as the class but not use one of the weapons/items that the game provides to make that class capable at working to their fullest is called a playstyle, not a subclass. Saying that you are not going to use the Scout's Scattergun but instead just use the pistol and bat to do damage leaves a major gap in the Scout's ability to do damage. By limiting yourself to not using a primary weapon/item of that class, and not filling it in with new bonuses, such as quadruple jump or higher bat damage/swing speed, you are leaving the Scout in a very vulnerable position. It isn't a subclass to play without the Scattergun because of this. It is just a different way to play the game with no direct benefit in sight.
Don't stop playing as Fat Scout, he's so fun to play against when I'm doing the same thing just don't use the fists of steel plz

Some of my best memories of playing TF2 as a kid were playing “sub classes”. The best feat I was ever able to achieve was when I was playing trollger on Hightower and my friend was playing medic on the other team. Somehow magically I was able to hit 3 frame perfect jumps in a row in order to bitch slap my friend and make him drop über. It was the best moment I was ever able to achieve and I have never been able to recreate it. He accused me of cheating and unfriended me. My skills have never been as sharp as they were then.

Its a really unique subclass so you wanna try it, then you realized how fun it is to chase people with a sword that's why you kept playing demoknight
Battle Engi:
Your'e sick of your team not giving a f*ck about you, or you're tired with turtling a nest but still wanna play engineer
Hoovy:
Idk, you're probably a chill guy who just wanna have fun
Pybro:
Either you're a good guy who helps engineer since they're being harrassed, or you're an engineer main who understands the pain of the other engineers
Trolldier:
You discovered how to rocket jump and can't get over the euphoria you feel from successful rocket jumps. Or you wanna troll and have a good time......and maybe harass new players who are confused how the f*ck can you fly and kill them with a shovel.
Battle Medic:
You wanna challenge yourself by giving the enemy a handicap, and probably piss off your teammates. Or maybe you just enjoy punishing enemies who think you're a free kill
Gun-spy:
You have a really good aim and can maximize the ambassador, or you saw elmaxo's gun spy vid
Battle Medic here (though it has been years since I've played TF2):
I just like the idea of having a machine gun, ok? The Medic's machine gun does deal damage right (I don't remember succeeding much using the Medic for combat)? He's the only class besides the Heavy with a machine gun.
@@Canaris4 I think there should be a class with an assault rifle.
Currently no classes can make proper use of sniper's flinching mechanic due to either slow firerates or low accuracy, whereas an assault rifle wouldn't have these problems.
To compensate for this it would have a damage output of about 120 damage per second at max rampup, which is 60 dps less than a stock shotgun.
Jarate Sniper:
You are a noob at headshots and refer body shooting while also coating them in jarate hoping your teamate deal extra damage, Extinguishing team mates with Sydney Sleeper or yeet Jarate at enemies and bush wacking them and becoming the low hp yet deadly melee sub class cause free Crits.
I'm an engineer main, but if there's TOO many of them already, I turn to Pyro for this exact reason.
If there's too many Pyros, I'll go Medic if we don't have one already.
I love playing as Medic, but I hate constantly healing, especially when it’s not fully needed.
Sadly fighting the enemy and not pocketing a heavy was heresy back when I would play all the time and I was harassed because of it, which made me stop playing for years.
Now I’m back and ready to kill the enemy just as ever as my Medic.

Ay finally, some recognition for the trolldier sub-class, as a trollider main that has dedicated over 1.2k hours solely on the sub-class, I can provide more information on the sub-class as well as a few bits and pieces of correction:
"Trolldier is a sub-class all about market gardening"
--For this part, at its core level, it is actually very true, the art of trolldier solely relies on your skill ability to perform a crit shovel attack on an unsuspecting (Or if skilled enough, suspecting) individuals. However, there are so many mechanics and different levels that must come into play before you dive in for a 'crit shovel kill'. Things such as health, enemy awarness to your attack, ammo count, and the ability to pull off the kill must be taken into account for the trolldier class.
"Not to say its easy, it's actually really f*cking hard, you first have to master rocket jumping which is complicated enough, and on top of that, you have to learn to land at an optimal position near your opponent and time the swing of the market gardener so it registers."
--Hahaha this point is 90% true, but truth be told, trolldier is fairly easy to learn to an extent, however, it is unbearably harder to master. Alot of mechanics I mentioned above is a great way to show your skillset as a trolldier, it is relatively learnable and easy to hit a market gardener, but what comes AFTER you land (or attempt to land the gardener) is the 'hard' part of trolldier, factors such as your health play into account since you only doing ONE ROCKET JUMP can bring your health from 200 to a measely 140-170 JUST from fall damage, combine that with your SECOND rocket jump to get away when you land or fail the kill brings it even lower to 70-120. thats light enough to be considered a scout/sniper/medic class and combining that with your slow speed and large hitbox means death if you're not mobile enough with rocket jumping (And even so if you miss the kill).
You will always find skilled trolldiers actively rocket jumping to and from health kits on maps, this is to ensure that their health is kept high so that survive any incoming fire or fall damage present once a garden or rocket jump is achieved.

--THISSSSSSSS, this quote alone summarise the whole of trolldiers ability to be countered. Alot of people have the misconception of varying playstyles/classes that can counter trolldier easily to an extent, but in reality, the players skill level is what mostly hinders the sub-classes effectiveness in a pub match (Besides mini-sentries those things can be snapped outta existence).
Most common misconceptions include classes such as scouts, snipers and even pyros. A few people starting out at trolldiers say that scouts are too agile and deal high damage at close range so once you rocket jump to them its a death sentence, pyros airblast you away once you get close to them and can pull an easy fire and flaregun combo, and that snipers can snipe you out of the air if their skill level is higher than average due to their ability to stay out of far range.
And for the most part, this is true, but as an experienced trolldier, these classes do not counter me at all during my game because of my skill level that was developed through experience, I'm able to rocket jump off walls at a speed of Mach 3 and pull off quick short-timed rocket jumps that push me forward while travelling only 6 inches off the ground to achieve a kill on these classe. Placement of rockets to know how far and fast you go is just as important as the ability to coordinate your timing of a market gardener.

@@peopleperson9336 In all honesty, the other playstyles I've tried such as the main classes dont really connect on the same level, reason being is that all 9 classes have some resemblance to other playstyles on different games to an extent e.g. overwatch/paladins etc.
Trolldier however, is completely unique and has its own skill-ceiling and playstyle to the point where no other game has actually come across adopting this method of class because of how insanely difficult this class is to master and requires alot of hours and dedication to become somewhat useful/playable.

Other Subclass I mostly use:
Fit Heavy: A Sniper subclass that mainly uses the SMG, sometimes the best pair is Cleaner's Carbine and the Bushwacka
Arson Scout: A Pyro that uses the shotgun or the Panic Attack, along with the Powerjack for increased mobility
I CANT BELIEVE THAT DEATH GRIPS WAS IS A RANDOM TF2 VID I WATCHED! THEY ARE SO UNDERRATED! (in the beggining where demoknight kills other mercenaries, get got by death grips plays, in the part where heavy kills a soldier in the intro, hustle bones plays)

What, no? As a Fat Scout hobbyist (I main Roamer Pyro), any shotgun can be used by a Fat Scout, the only requirements of being a Fat Scout are that of:
a) using Heavy
b) not using your primary and relying on shotguns
My favorite sub class is the engie knight. The sheer shock factor of an engineer actually trying to close distance makes everyone panic. Or they just ignore you and let you walk past them and beat their medic down while they focus on literally anything else.

speed and bleed scout is a super underrated subclass and depending on the users skill as scout, can be absolutely brutal to the other teams major players

@@beefkd Baby Face's Blaster + Flying Guillotine + Wrap Assassin. The way you're meant to play is you use the Guillotine and Wrap Assassin's secondary fire to constantly inflict bleed damage to counter the downside of the BFB that any damage will reduce your boost meter, where the bleed effects will constantly refill that meter. It's super fun actually as you zoom around the map at full speed throwing cutlery and christmas ornaments at people to run in, kill the med and zoom off.

I love how fat scout is more intense then actually mowing down and terrorizing enemies
My favourite subclass is the branching out of the demoknight subclass known as caber knight, it's actually pretty insane, it can one shot a fully overhealed heavy (at the right circumstances) and has massive blast radius which ALSO gets crit boosted from the charge which means it will most likely kill the medic as well; oh and killing somebody with an already exploded caber is also really satisfying, since you know you are at a disadvantage.
Caberknight is so funny. Am I gonna be pissed some random psycho from the other team somehow managed to charge through every single one of our defenses, get close to like three people, land the melee hit + crit, and kill everyone, including them? A little. But dude, it's still funnny as shit
Just wish the caber could be replaced from ammo packs tho, having to trod all the way back to spawn gets old quickly imo

Hoovy with the snowgloves can stunlock enemies into oblivion. I once stunlocked a demoman for like 5 minutes straight while his teammates ran by me.
The phlog can be useful on pybro, so long as there's two pybros. One to reflect, the other to focus on melting spies.
really should've swapped out hoovy for huntsman or dragons fury, as hoovy is more of just another way to play the game without objective, something any other class can do, and huntsman and dragon fury really change the way you play pyro and sniper

It's a shame that the other swords weren't mentioned as they give a lot of different roles for the demoknight like the tide turner and the arabian sword thing can just let you chain charges.
Aight, I got this variant of fat scout.
Taking the panic attack and fists of steel, you get in really close with the FoS damage resistance. Then you swap to shotgun, the panic attack for fast swap and more pellets, to take down enemies in a quick burst. For a primary, I would suggest the tomislav for its rev speed. Thus, the point-blank wall.
Take a demo coming for a melee when you have the fists out: swap to tomislav at mid range, or charge them with the panic attack to get 2 clean shots on them.
Some sniper harassing you? Fists of steel can be used to get to cover, while you get a health pack and flank the sniper.
Another heavy? Fists and circle strafe at point blank.
Pyro can airblast or burn you? Back off and play the tomislav.
Scout getting in close with a shotgun? Fists of steel will slow down his shotgun shots, and you can melee them.
Sentry? Fists of steel to escape, maybe peek a wall.
Soldier with rockets? Tank the Salvo with fists, then fire back while they reload, or escape.
Trolldier in the sky? Shotgun 'em or minigun to throw off the jump.

One semi-subclass I like is "cart-pushing demo/spy". Either pain train pill-knight or dead ringer spycicle l'etrange spy.
If you know when to use it (and not), it's surprisingly effective.
I present to you the lightmedic subclass. The playstyle is simple, you just throw madmilk and kill people to get small health packs
loadout:
-any scattergun
-madmilk
-candy cane
that subclass should be called dickhead
Subclasses and a slightly different way to play the game with extra weapons in general is what carries TF2 in terms of gameplay variety and replayability
Even with the large amount of videos related to Subclasses, I don't think they get nearly enough credit, which shows how important they are

I'm not good with any pyro melees so the homewrecker seems like a good choice to me
Had an idea for a pyro melee back when jungle inferno hit. "1200mm" trades 75% melee dmg for a 50 metal supply that can only be resupplied by the locker. Deploys up to all 50 in 1 swing. Can be used to increase build speed but not upgrade. Point behind it was to let the engi step away from his nest for a bit to help push the front line. Instead we just got slaps.

Hey elmaxo,here is a subclass I made for the scout called the "Atom Scout"
Weapon Loadout:Force of Nature,Bonl Atomic Punch and the Atomizer.
Basically,drink the bonk,run to the backlines with your bat out. Now most people use the bat for its triple jump but we're focused on that mini crit. Slap an enemy with it to do 40 damage. Then when they notice,pull out the Force of Nature and blast them doing 92 damage at the very least while sending them into your team. In total,it deals 132 damage at the very least or 155 damage at most which can barely 1 shot a medic but even if they tank it,you're blasting them to your team. If anyone tried it out,tell me if this is viable
I suggest soda popper/force-a-nature and Fan-o-war.The dps is higher

Objective: Use mad milk to cover enemies at the front line, stay with your team. Smack dangerous targets from behind with fan o war and let the team do the job. KILL ANYONE CLOSE TO THE MEDIC. Spy check with mad milk. Extinguish with mad milk. Let others use tele. Don't take health packs from medics.
Pros: team loves you
Cons: you will probably die often if not careful and won't get that many kills and more assists.

The funny thing is, there are other games with subclasses. Like Terraria as an amazing example, in it you have four main classes: Melee/Warrior, Mage, Ranger, and Summoner. But there are sub classes to these classes. Like Ranger there are two that I know of, Archer and Gunner. And with Melee there are a load of sub classes that I don’t really wanna spell out. I just think that’s kinda cool.
