Well, I was waiting for it, it happened- you went from someone who really didn't care for Taylor to someone, today, sitting there mesmerized, with a smile on your face. It happened, and it makes me happy.
That’s the thing about Taylor, no matter how large the crowd she sings in front of, she has the phenomenal gift of making it feel like she’s singing just for you…
I love these intimate versions, too. This one feels very sensual, like she's letting us in on a little secret about how she couldn't escape the pull of this person. That smirk on her face says so much.
Taylor's smile is delightfully infectious. I always find myself smiling with & at her, sometimes with tears running down my face, that magical blend of heartbreak & happiness. She's awesome🌸🙂
Agree with this. Carolina is in my top 2 Taylor songs (the first being Ivy, obviously). It's hauntingly beautiful and unlike most of her catalogue. Safe & Sound is gorgeous as well, one of my favorites - and it still pains me that the Civil Wars broke up. :(
For me, this version compared to the full production is the biggest glow up of the grammy museum performances (next would be out of the woods). To me, it sounds chagrined, resigned, a little amused, a little bitter, slightly broken but not bowed, if that makes any sense. Like, "yes that was exactly what I wanted from you, well done you! and also, silly me thinking you perfectly executing my heartfelt, sincere script would actually change anything". By contrast, the studio version, to me, sounds like something you might hear at a wedding anniversary: "the course of true love never did run smooth! All's well that ends well!" I don't imagine you'd want to do yet another reaction to the same song, but maybe you'd still enjoy listening to it at the Eras. That version sounds like she's literally just having a lovely time with the crowd, especially with her referencing the sydney fan chant, and implicitly the 1989 tour, right before. I actually love that one a lot! But, just like with all her happy, brash, poptimistic sounding songs, part of why it hits for me, why it's so nice to see her have fun, is because of my parasocial empathy for sad Taylor. And that's why this particular performance heightened my appreciation of the song itself, no matter how she sings it. ua-cam.com/video/leviWITG55A/v-deo.html
Just saw that she also sang it as part of a mashup with Clean, which is of course about struggling to walk away for good, instead of "relapsing". So I guess it's not that much of a stretch to say the song does (also) describe something that ultimately didn't work out. Maybe at some point, he "got the girl" (maybe even in the sense of, he fooled her), but no matter the allure, she now knows that's not her happy ending. ua-cam.com/video/5uyAcPe1EC8/v-deo.html
Her ability to deliver her lyrics exactly as she had in mind when writing them is amazing. She hits every note in a way that it’s delivered in a specific manor. Her voice has a unique sound sometimes that’s gorgeous- like the timbre or something of her voice is very special.
I find these scaled back performances are some of my favorite settings. It’s simple and it shines. I understand that concert venues and record production have their own dynamics for a reason. I suppose I’m just at the point in life that I personally appreciate the minimalism. Lovely reaction.
The songs that highlight her voice and lyrics together are my absolute favorite ones. I like the bigger songs, too, but this sound really adds to her talent and appeal. Just a true beauty. 🥰❤️
I'm hoping this means you'll be open to watching some of her other intimate acoustic performances on the Eras tour. Some of the greats are: How It Ends, My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys, Peter, Evermore, and from the Live in Paris digital release that just dropped, FALSE GOD. It's so dreamy.
I noticed that your eye twinkles now as you react to her, with a twinkle that wasn’t there before, when you began this journey. The admiration is inevitable for anyone who takes the time to dive deep, but I was wondering when it will happen/will be noticeable for you, and I’d say I’d mark this video as the moment when it did. 🤍 Makes me happy, I must say! ❤ keep em coming, Izzy!
Hi Izzy, I absolutely love her intimate acoustic performances- it’s like she draws you straight into the moment in time and the feelings she experiences in that scene in her own mind. She’s just so brilliant at painting a specific detail (pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks)! I really would love your reaction to her live performance of Tolerate It from the Eras Tour. Also, her live performance of New Year’s Day from reputation on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon it was very emotional for Jimmy as his mom had just died and he specifically related to the lyrics because they referenced something he and his mother shared. The emotion and vulnerability in the song is so powerful imo. Would love to get your take. No pressure though lol. Also would love your reaction to Last Kiss from Speak Now (preferably Taylor’s Version). Such vivid, vivid imagery and raw emotion - have a fabulous day, Izzy!
The tour performances are for folks who already know the songs on the album -- she makes them colorful, dramatic, extravagant, and very very busy. In an interview years ago, she said she imagines the tour performance while she is still writing the song; which probably affects her choices in production for the album and how they re imagine it for the tours. This sort of thing isn't just more intimate; it is more conversational. Her fans love these performances. You might like some of the more poppy Red tunes (or dislike them less?), if you look at the Acoustic set she did for the album release; a couple dozen fans in her mother's house in Nashville, and just her guitar. . . . . Speaking of her guitar, is that thing she has here a J 180? She used to play Grand Symphony Taylor guitars, but she's switched to Gibsons since Red . . . .
I’ve never listened to this version cause honestly I don’t like that song, so I’m curious too! Let’s go watch the video 😅❤ So niiiice this version ❤ today I’m asking so much of you haha, but if you like this you should react to “riptide” the Taylor cover of that song. It’s my favorite EVER. I know you’ll love it.

We all have a favorite Taylor Version and her acoustic performances are it for me, she is just hypnotic

You should react to Carolina and Safe and Sound and Bigger than the whole sky
Agreed safe and sound in particular is such a beautiful song. ❤

Love to hear your thoughts on The Lakes and the song Evermore. You’ll surely love themmmm. Both underrated but both beautifully written.❤❤❤
Looking forward to checking those out, Stephanie!
You can’t get a better version of this or even match it . Her voice is beautiful.

@@IzzyIzenstain I love to hear that
Her voice was just beautiful. I've enjoyed the Grammy Museum reactions.
Thanks, Patricia!

@ would be lovely, thank you sir! I’ll be leaving you a comment on Patreon soon re: your 1989 reaction 😊
Great reaction! My first time seeing this performance. I love this song anyway but this is a really good version. Her voice is awesome here!
Thanks!
As always, loved your reaction ❤❤❤
Thanks, Suzanne! Love to ya!
You too! I enjoy hearing your thoughts on these artists with you being an artist yourself! 🥰🫶
Hoping you post your reaction to the interview portion of this set. She gives all kinds of insight into her writing and production process.
I'll post some of it at some point.
Love your insight!
Thanks, Lolli!

I think what you’re describing, for me at least, is her emoting this innocent belief in a fairytale love, but in an endearing, not annoying, way.
Yeah

I'm not sure what the guitar is. Both great makes though.
❤
Studio versions are way more produced and poppy you should know!
they're designed to be elevated into arena anthems . . . .
I’ve never listened to this version cause honestly I don’t like that song, so I’m curious too! Let’s go watch the video 😅❤

I don’t enjoy the tour version of this song bc SO much is happening. The light up dress, the dancing umbrellas - it’s almost too much bubble gum.
Yeah, I think I share those reasons, Becky.
If people you come across say that Taylor can't sing. We always show them these Grammy museum performances. 1st class vocals.
