I said it before, and I'll say it again: Judge it by primes and peaks, and Jones is better than Hopkins. Judge it by longevity and there's no comparison. Hopkins was twice the oldest man in history to win a significant title. Consistent, consecutive defenses of his belt, and all this after having a lung collapsed by a knife, several years in Graterford Penitentiary, the death of his brother, and losing his debut match. Better than Floyd or Toney, too. The only fighter of that era in the same legendary category is maybe Pacquiao.
@Chosen O1E Floyd played the game better than any boxer, in terms of his business acumen. He (by his own admission) never even unified a single division. He's great, and probably one of the three best of all-time in terms of the "hit and don't get hit sweet science" (after Pernell) but he's not "TBE." That's just part of his marketing brand. Even he doesn't really believe it. If you believe it, then that means his marketing worked, because you bought what he was selling. B-Hop had twenty consecutive defenses in a row, in one of the original eight glamour divisions. That's five less than Joe Louis. He was beating world champions when he was 45. Floyd in his early forties was fighting MMA fighters and a kickboxer (with a clause that the kickboxer couldn't even use his feet).
@Chosen O1E Floyd looked not great against Pacquiao, he was the only man stunned in that ring and the one who got hit the hardest, iirc. So I don't think it's fair to hold him above Pacquiao. James toney might be better, idk.
