I LOVE Broccoli mum to much! I'm 63 and have been WFPB for 13 years. I'm just so impressed with Ami's approach to this lifestyle and the way she is teaching her kids! I love her videos . . . and PB with J!!
I’m so shocked that I have never come across Broccoli mum before this!!! I’ve been vegan, WFPB as much as I can for 3 and a half years , but I am a total foodie and I need a large volume of food as well! So thanks for this interview. Hopefully this will help me with my own struggles in maintaining my weight. ❤
I’ve watched pretty much every one of Ami’s videos and I am constantly amazed by her creativity in the kitchen. She’s currently working on a WFPB Indian cookbook and I can’t wait!
Gutted I missed this, I was in bed. You and Brocolli mum are basically the main plant based/Vegan channels I watch right now. Nice recipes that anyone can follow, and not focusing too much on the depressing aspects of Veganism. It's a breath of fresh air.
I'm also a volume eater for sure. People are blown away at how much I can put away in one sitting without being over-weight. The benefits of eating low calorie density :)
Of all the things I have done as a mom, I think the thing I am most proud of is that I taught my kids to cook and they have a lot of fun doing it! Cooking together was (and still is) a great way to spend quality time with them.
I don't know how I missed this video earlier! You and Ami are my faves. You're both real! I've really been inspired by Ami's creativity in the kitchen. I never would have thought an apple pie packed with chickpeas would be so good.
I’ve been plant based for over five years and have recently started following you both this past summer, due to seeing you on Chef AJ’s show! You share great, yet simple recipe ideas and I’ve been inspired by you both! Thanks for this interview and for all of the hard work you both put in! Keep up the great work on your respective channels! 😊

Follow up…Hi Jeremy and Ami! I just made a thick chocolate shake/ice cream out of “Ami” ingredients! Chickpeas, sweet potato, frozen banana, cacao powder, rolled oats, almond milk, 1 date, 1 T flaxseed. It just tastes like chocolate soft serve. Can't taste the chickpeas or sweet potato. High protein, high fiber, loaded with nutrients. Next time I'll try it without flaxseed for smoother texture. I did put a little crunchy dry cereal on top . I am so full and satisfied after this breakfast. Warning, possible TMI…half hour after eating, I was a blessed with a trip to the ladies room which for me was fabulous bc I am one of those people you discussed who don’t “go” despite my high fiber vegan intake. My GI says I have a sluggish system 🤷♀️. Well, thanks Ami! I will try different varieties such as adding cauliflower to the shake. So excited to discover this type of shake. Will try it on my grandkids who have a limited diet due to their preferences. ❤❤
What a great interview!! I made the banana cauliflower miso cocoa powder shake for the family and we were blown away by how tasty this was. What an easy way to sneak in veg! This is the first time watching Broccoli Mum and I thank you for this excellent interview. ❤
Many, many years ago, my husband was cooking when I got home. I asked him what he was making. He said, "mustgo". I asked him what that was. He said anything that was in the fridge that "mustgo". So that is what we call a meal anytime the fridge needs to see new meals and fresh veg in it.
Love the volume eater concept because that's exactly myself and my husband. We don't like dieting so since we stopped animal products, ultra processed foods, salt, oil and sugar we eat so much more. Hey Amy - honestly I think a glass of wine from time to time is entirely fine - especially compared to other things. It's really your own journey - there's no hard and cast rules.
I blend cooked soya beans (batch cooked) with soya milk, dates, and spices that Dr. Greger recommends, and pour over cooked quinoa and amaranth (batch cooked). Heat up in the microwave and add blueberries and mango etc on top. Lovely.
Do you make your own soya milk? If so, what machine do you recommend? I made some yesterday with my Vitamix (soaked the beans overnight & skinned them first). It was good, but a little pasty as I don't like to throw away the pulp.

I get so many great ideas from you, because variety (and treats) are so important! 💕 As for the "protein" question, I think it's linked to menopause--I did watch several videos (and one mentioned the 30 to 40g for each meal) where the stress is put on protein for weight loss and esp. muscle recovery in menopausal women. Which I can attest is a struggle...
Thanks for this interview. I've never heard it called "volume eating" before. I don't love the name because this is what most of us should be doing. Our diets don't include many calories (meat is calorie dense). I joined a weight lose/maintenance program during COVID that taught me we have GOT to eat 8-12 oz of vegetables at every meal along with protein. It seems like a lot but there are so few calories in plant strong diets! We need lots of vegetables for the calories and the fiber. That's what helps us feel full. They also recommend 1 tablespoon of fat with each meal so all our food gets optimized as we digest it. I use seeds or nut butters.
You've got a great handle on this and mentality. I agree that there's a society shame about eating large portions - but if you can ignore that they just enjoy it :) Sounds like you are already!
You both inspire me. I lost 100-lbs eating this way but gained it back since becoming a truck driver for 3 years now. I'm going to start recording my journey soon.
Volume addiction is an aspect of food addiction. It often (not always) stems from childhood trauma. Related to the vagus nerve among other things. Lots and lots to unpack about this topic once you go down the rabbit hole.
Great episode. Mary's Test Kitchen (Canadian youtbuber) has done a whole series with every bean possible. Amazing series. Many say to be "tofu" you need to press it but whatever works for each person. Love these interviews and not sure if the "live" are the same but watching later.....holy commercials/ads.
Hey Danny - thanks for Mary's suggestion - because I don't get the view end I'm not sure about the commericals - I know it's different for EVERY user - some people get commercials than others based on YT's algorithms. So sorry if they sent you too many. If it helps though it does help us creators make our content :) So thanks for helping!!!
Hello from Uruguay 😁 people laugh at me on my face when I tell that I eat this way. My country and my culture is very proud of be meat eaters. My mum use to worry almost to cry when I switch to vegetarian diet 20yrs ago, so... But if you put behind people's opinion is easy to do even on a toxic enviroment like that. I don't have sweet cravings, but struggle with pasta, breads, etc. Snacking raw carrots helps me with that, and of course 'mate' wich is like hot tea. Great interviewer and guest! Thank you 😊😊
Fun that 2 vegan UA-cam channels i recently discovered are collaborating! 💯 agree with ami when she says "most people are probably volume eaters." I am always the one eating the most but it's low calorie density and I'm the leanest (and happiest) in the room. 😅
I missed the live but watched later last night. Love the concept of volume eating and need to dig deeper into that. Jeremy, what was the channel for the power yoga you mentioned, couldn’t quiet get that.
Btw I forgot to mention ……here is an excellent lentil tofu recipe from @simnettnutrition soooo easy, my kids prefer that over regular tofu ua-cam.com/video/yIBCSf0e_6k/v-deo.htmlsi=lLziH8scXyziwTsQ
Great talk! You should do more with Broccoli Mum on specific topics😊 My daughter whom is 9 yrs old and primarily plant based for 5 years has a really hard time seeing raw chicken or beef if I’m watching a non vegan channel and it pops on the screen. It makes her very uncomfortable. It gives me perspective and eye opening.
Oh wow! Well luckily she won't see this on our channel! What's her name and where are you watching from - would love to give her a shout-out! Would LOVE to do a regular chat with Ami - you should tell her that idea too :)
PS i think ppl need to do meal prep videos for `1-2 days. So now i made salad, and i made lentils, with onion, chilli, parsley, capsicum etc.. i also made stock from wilting spring onion celery and carrot tops..Ive prepped a salad with the same but also carrot and spinach, cherry tomatoes.
I raised my kids vegetarian and later went vegan, so they never were vegan, but they grew up eating that way. As they got older, they definitely tried meat, but seem to prefer vegetarian and vegan foods. They still eat cheese though. All you can do is set them up for success, but they will make their own decisions. I am just glad I taught them to cook healthy meals.
Pb can you send me your link to your homemade instant pot overnight plane yogurt? I couldn't find it. Thank you! and really enjoyed your video with Broccli Mum.
I think most humans are volume eaters because natural Whole Foods are so calorie dilute, you had to be a volume eater to survive. It has to do with strength receptors in your stomach. Some people are more sensitive to calorie density, but they are the odd balls not the norm.
@pbwithjeremy I am new to plant based, and I find the avacado has the kind of decadent creaminess that I miss in ice cream. This started out as my daughters' first solid food and yanno, if they leave half the baby food, we eat it, so I liked the flavor combo, then on a cooking show, I saw a guy make avacado banana ice cream, and they won. 😆 I decided to try the vegan plant-based version. I suppose maybe vanilla or almond extract could be added for more sweetness, but I feel like the bananas do that already. Thank you for your channel, It is helping me on my journey to better health. 😁
So glad the channel is helpful - and thanks for the tip on the avocado - I just bought a huge bag at the market this morning so I might try this out :) What's the ratio of Banana to Avocado? I would imagine 2:1 or 3:1 ? @@michelletulumello661
@@pbwithjeremy 2:1 for those little 60 cent avacados I use that you get at Aldi's. Maybe 3 to 1 for the bigger ones? I was thinking if you freeze it too long and you have excess bananas, it might get too hard. If you try it, can you let me know what you thought, and anything you might choose to do to improve the recipe? Theres a coconut non dairy topping (also at aldis) with 20 calories per serving you can put on top of it if you like whipped cream on your ice cream. (I dont use it because my LDL cholesterol is 335). I'm a competant amateur cook but new to cooking plant based. I am motivated because I am working on surviving until my teenagers make it to adulthood and I want to leave them a decent planet as well.
I think if you move to more of a WFPB diet you'll live longer than just them getting into adulthood! I will try to give this a shot at some point in the near future!
I just finished listening to the whole interview. Check out simnett nutrition for how to make bean tofu. He recently posted a black bean tofu but also has a red lentil and chickpea vid. Enjoy!
I like to watch Broccoli MUM but I just started watching her and I'm confused because I can't find her recipes on her website does she post them or do I just watch her videos and try to figure out measurements?????
Yeah, the gym. I just put my head phones in and listen to an Audio Book like the China Study 😂😂😂. I feel like telling everyone about the plant based diet.
I want to be vegan, plant based but am scared to give up meat. I don't want to make myself sick or worse. I was told we need meat. I don't need to lose weight I'm a 55 year old female, 5 foot and 107 pounds. I do however need to build muscle. I feel weaker. Any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You don't need meat - you need nutrients - and you can get them in abundance from whole food plant-based sources. I think the general challenge is people think it will be hard - and it's an adjustment - but it's not hard, I don't think. It just takes some adjustment. I've got loads of recipes on here and Ami does on her channel to. Building muscle has less to do with what you eat (make sure you include protein though) and more to do with exercise. So get yourself some dumbbells and/or resistance bands and look for some videos on UA-cam! :) Let me know if there's anything else I can help with!
You'd have to ask her - but I personally 3-4 L of water a day - that's my main liquid I drink, but I'll also have a black coffee in the morning, and then an herbal tea in the afternoon and sometimes later at night - usually just with water but sometimes with a little lemon. And at night I'll have a glass of my homemade kombucha. That's basically all that I drink on a normal day.
@@pbwithjeremy Thank you for your reply.. From reading your reply, I can see I have a Big problem with drinking water. This is probably why I can’t stay eating this way longer than 2-3weeks. How Are you drinking 3-4 Liters? My question might sound stupid but I’m trying. What do you suggest for a Water Drinker beginner ? ThankYou. Also, does water type matter? Spring, Sink, distilled etc?
What's your problem with drinking water? I think for women it's recommended 2L a day - men it's 2.8: or something. To put that in perspective it's just 8 cups. Have one when you wake up and before you go to bed and then one with each mean and you're already over halfway there!
@@pbwithjeremy The problem I have with drinking water is, Im thinking that eating PlantBased, I’m already hydrated. Liquid is the last thing I think about but I see this could be my personal problem for not staying on PlantBased eating. However I will make a conscious effort to add water.😂 ThankYou.
@@vikkiyates1934 Yeah - you gotta drink water :) hahaha. Plants absolutely have lots of hydration BUT not enough to satisfy your daily requirements. Is it the kind of office where you can talk to whoever is in charge of that and mention that you'd like to see healthier snack options available. I think it's fair to tell the that those sort of foods are triggering for you - it's no different than someone who can't handle strong scents in an office. You don't have to stop people from eating whatever they want to eat but I think it's fair to request that they aren't left out in the open. If that fails - or if you're not comfortable doing that - then it's about practicing will power. Have some healthy snacks available for yourself and just tell yourself that if you don't want those things then you're not actually hungry. Get yourself a selection of teas that you like :)
We actually got sent one to do a review of it and I sent it back I hated it so much. I think for the right person it's the right device, but for people who like to freestyle their cooking it felt a bit like 'painting-by-numbers'. I likely didn't give it a fair shake. Glad you enjoy it!

You both inspire me. I lost 100-lbs eating this way but gained it back since becoming a truck driver for 3 years now. I'm going to start recording my journey soon.
Wow! What a story you've got there - please do - we need more people like you telling your story! You've got this!
@@pbwithjeremy thanks for the encouragement!
My pleasure! We're all in this together!
There used to be a guy who was a truck driver that had a UA-cam Channel but he went off the air. That could be another challenge for you Jeremy
Volume addiction is an aspect of food addiction. It often (not always) stems from childhood trauma. Related to the vagus nerve among other things. Lots and lots to unpack about this topic once you go down the rabbit hole.
I don't think the two things are mutually exclusive. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, you know?
Thank you 😊😊
Thank you for sharing this Paula! Sorry to hear that you had a challenging start to this path, but glad you rose above it despite that environment!
Fun that 2 vegan UA-cam channels i recently discovered are collaborating! 💯 agree with ami when she says "most people are probably volume eaters." I am always the one eating the most but it's low calorie density and I'm the leanest (and happiest) in the room. 😅
So true!
She was fantastic!
Agreed!
I agree! I can't wait to find her and start watching her videos also
My two favorite healthy foodies! ❤❤❤
I missed the live but watched later last night. Love the concept of volume eating and need to dig deeper into that. Jeremy, what was the channel
for the power yoga you mentioned, couldn’t quiet get that.
Btw I forgot to mention ……here is an excellent lentil tofu recipe from @simnettnutrition soooo easy, my kids prefer that over regular tofu

I changed my diet a month ago. Cold turkey. Lost 5kg. My body is still healing from years of neglect.
Congrats - you got this!!!
Same! Give them the foundation and hope they do their best with it. Sounds like you're doing great with them!
Fingers crossed for you getting a vitamix....
Love Ami.
Love her!!
Pb can you send me your link to your homemade instant pot overnight plane yogurt? I couldn't find it. Thank you! and really enjoyed your video with Broccli Mum.
This one? ua-cam.com/video/epLp7VnBsJs/v-deo.html
I think most humans are volume eaters because natural Whole Foods are so calorie dilute, you had to be a volume eater to survive. It has to do with strength receptors in your stomach. Some people are more sensitive to calorie density, but they are the odd balls not the norm.
I like making avacado banana icecream. 2 bananas, 1 avacado. Blender. You can freeze the bananas before you start or freeze it all after.
Does the avocado give it a "flavor"? You find? Or does the banana do the heavy lifting there?
Loved the interview. What was the last name of the yoga guy you mentioned? Shawn something. Thanks
Here's the link to his channel: www.youtube.com/@SeanVigueFitness

Enjoy!
I just finished listening to the whole interview. Check out simnett nutrition for how to make bean tofu. He recently posted a black bean tofu but also has a red lentil and chickpea vid. Enjoy!
Thanks!!!
I like to watch Broccoli MUM but I just started watching her and I'm confused because I can't find her recipes on her website does she post them or do I just watch her videos and try to figure out measurements?????
I know she sells ebooks on her website - so perhaps that's the way...? You can ask her in the comments to her videos!
I am subscribed to both of you also!

Awesome! Thank you!
Same I love watching both their videos. 😊
Yeah, the gym. I just put my head phones in and listen to an Audio Book like the China Study 😂😂😂.
I feel like telling everyone about the plant based diet.
What is the model number of your vitamix? Thank you.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help with!
Don't forget smoked paprika!
Hi from San Antonio
Hi Jimmy!
I bought a refurbished Vitamix but it died the 1st day. I sent it back and spent the extra money on a brand new one. 😮
Oh no. I’ve never had a problem with refurbished. But glad you found your own solution. Vitamix is so good with returns and exchanges too.
Hey Jeremy you mentioned someone you follow for power yoga can you tell me who?
This guy!!!!! -------> www.youtube.com/@SeanVigueFitness
I just asked you that but now I've got it thank you! I also just made your sliceable gradable cheese and I'm waiting for it to set up
Hi, Does Broccoli Mom say anything about drinking water? PBJ, how about you. Do you drink lots of water on Plant Based Eating?
If you get this app it has lots of great tracking for nutrition, including water - maybe itll help: apps.apple.com/us/app/dr-gregers-daily-dozen/id1060700802
Totally age. I guess I imagine that I am out in the middle of no where and all I have to eat is Fruit, Veg, Bean, etc.
Loveeeee her ❤❤
Isn't she great?!
What about if you work in an office where there is a constant stream of junk food EVERYWHERE?
Being a volume eater of organic vegetables would bankrupt me 😅
True. Better to eat it non-organic than not eat it at all.
If had got a thermomix, million times better than a vitamix. Not only does it blend well but can chop and cook also.
We actually got sent one to do a review of it and I sent it back I hated it so much. I think for the right person it's the right device, but for people who like to freestyle their cooking it felt a bit like 'painting-by-numbers'. I likely didn't give it a fair shake. Glad you enjoy it!
@@pbwithjeremy you didn’t. I use mine multiple times a day and have thrown away all my other appliances such as scales, food processor and blender.

Stop talking about cheese as im raw til 4 lol........i dont beleive in raw, but raw til 4 i think is working for most ppl.
