In the Caribbean we call it "green fig". It is boiled chopped up and eaten with salfish. The saltfish is prepared with tomatoes, onions, garlic, sweet peppers and fresh green seasoning. Delicious!!!
I have fixed potatoes exactly like this but, never thought of green bananas. I knew people in other parts of the world cook green bananas and plantains but, didn't know how to do that. Here in Texas we have them available in the stores. I am going to make this dish. Thank you for showing everyone this recipe. ❤
Thanks for the recipes. I am going to try this today. I am used to making green fig pies or green fid salad. Lovely recipe. First time coming across ur channel. Have a beautiful Sunday to u and ur family and to everyone stay safe in this time of pandemic.
@@nellyrobi u are most welcome. It came out delicious. Trying my best to stay safe, I am doing well. Thankful for the simple things in life. U stay safe and keep good as well
@@nellyrobi I ate this mashed green bananas this morning with salted cod fish brule jhol. I'll give you both recipes. We also serve this with curried fish and it's very tasty! Mashed Green banana: Boil about 10 green bananas until well done and peel. Put a pot on medium heat with about 2 tablespoons of oil, when oil is hot add some chopped fresh pimento peppers, fresh hot peppers, crushed garlic, and chopped onions, stir and saute, then add the boiled bananas, blackpepper and salt to taste; mashed bananas with a potato masher or the back of a pot spoon until smooth. End. Saltfish Brule Jhol: Boil the Salted Cod fish with water covering it for a few minutes to take out some of the salt, drain water and set aside. Using a big bowl put all these together: chop some tomatoes (discard the seeds), yellow onions, pimiento peppers, hot peppers, a piece of red and a piece of green bell peppers, green onions or chives and crush some garlic, then add some salt (not too much, the cod fish already has salt), blackpepper, a couple teaspoons of lemon or lime juice and a few tablespoons of olive oil; using your fingers, mix everything well and press a little firmly to crush just a little but not too much (it brings everything together nicely), taste and adjust the salt. Enjoy! 😊 Nelly, I'm hoping that you'll give these a try and let me know if you like them, thank you. In the Caribbean we have learned to make many things from our friends who had African Ancestors but after a while we experimented and have added a few more ingredients. We make these regularly because we love them so much! We make many African dishes that you all make in Africa but slightly different. Btw, I'm not in the Caribbean any longer but I still make our food. I love my country, family and friend's so I visit sometimes. If you'd like to give me your whatsapp number I can send you my food pictures also with recipes; I think that you'll love them! 😊
