Hi Dan, been following the channel since the “rattle can” t5 build. As one of your more mature subscribers who has a vast experience in welding/ fabrication and paint and bodywork I can say only this……your confidence and ability has grown ten fold over the years, and you’re always learning. I like the transparency of your channel too. Everyone will have an opinion mate but just do what you do, no excuses, no apologies, there’s plenty of so called “experts” who will comment negatively, but it’s your channel fundamentally so do what you like bud👍🏻
Don’t criticise yourself too much pal, some epic effort going in for a 5k build, most would of just waxoyled over the rust in the first place! Looking forward to some more van content 👌🏻

People will always tell you, they have a mate that can weld so tidy, I say show me? Your welding is sound. As long as you have penetration etc, it will last for ever. Love that shop.

Polished metal like a delorean with those would look mint
I would highly recommend making a jig to aid in replacing steering arms on the coil overs

I think you are making great progress on the build Dan, you don't need to apologise for your fabrication or welding skills mate as there is nothing wrong with them as they are solid now all they need is a bit of dressing up and they will be fine, looking forward to the next one👏🙏👍

Been following since the start of the Mk1 golf just wondered if your getting anymore stickers in? Loved the workshop build watched it from start to finish
Nice, but let's talk about what wonderful shade of grey you're going to painting it in later? A really dark flat gunmetal grey with maybe some glossy black parts. Just to mix things up along with a colourmatched golden thin stripe somewhere to tie the wheels colour together with the car and have it looking a bit more unique?
Good work as usual Dan, One thing is there any risk of damage to the Van having it so close when you are grinding and welding ect, even more so that you have the top up and open? last thing you want is a bit of molten metal burning the top or landing on one of the windows,
If I building it i reckon id choose bright blue metallic from the mk2 golf, chrome mk1 bumpers and a few other chrome bits, beige/tan interior, period correct roof bars/rack, single headlight, and as for engine id say keeping it fairly standard would be cool maybe a g40 swap or the mk2f gt engine or if you want one off you could try fit the 800 or 900cc engine from the mk1 polo and put the g40 supercharger on it if that would even work and definitely with those wheels, cant wait to see how it turns out!!

I like the look of Corrado/Vento front lights and grill... that'd look cool if it can be adapted....or the early Golf quad square lights...never been done on a Polo I bet.

Just a question, I'm wondering if your coating the new metal work, sills etc. In etch primer or anything, i mightve missed it in the video but i haven't heard you mention it, just seems a shame if you aren't for a little bit of future proofing, unless your gonna spray some primer in later. Keep dreaming mate 😉👍🏻

Loving the new build dan 👍. One question.....who are you referring to when you say "we". I thought you were doing these projects solo.
You might not have put many hours in this week but it doesn't show. Metal fab is a slow tediousprocess, considering you are doing all of it by hand you've done amazing and it's coming along quickly.

I think you would have saved yourself quite a bit of time by using Mk1 Golf rear arches on the rear. I have used them on my 2F Squareback
Yeah they would have saved time although they would cost a lot to buy. Being a budget build I took the decision to got the more difficult but cheaper route to save money.
As for Ml1 Golf suspension, have you looked at John Ludwick’s YT channel?
I wouldn’t say the wheels were reps, they are poor quality, but not reps 😂
