Good eye, Debbie. The indentations are sets for "gems," which would have been pasted in. Originally gilded, it must have been quite a posh accessory in it's day. One wonders about what color "stones" were used to adorn it.
The bead looks like glass from a chandelier. Congratulations on the award, well earned🍾! So lovely to find defendants of Alfred Wilkes. The broach looks like it had gems set into it.

My grandsons will earn a bit of pocket money whilst serving as eco evangelists. Win-win really! Stay safe everyone, and we’ll meet up again here, next week!😊 ❤️🦘🇦🇺
Maria cut her's and Paolo's images from the framed, employee photograph, and stared at them one last time. These six months they had worked together towards sobriety at Lockhart's Cocoa Room, having fled Lisbon for a new life in London. They had fought, made up, promised, struggled and fought again, until she could take it no more. He was hopelessly lost in drink. She scribbled down her tearful accusations, and then stuffed the picture into the small, purple bottle in which Paolo had long hidden his whisky. Wrapping it thick in tape as she sobbed, she flung the container far out into the Thames. "He shall never deceive me again", she thought, smashing still more plates and cups, "so long as their story became a permanent part of the grey mud. Now I am free ..." I guess it is a spell the message in the bottle. Maybe in portuguese: "Paulo Gomes Maria Gomes Separar Brigar Meter nojo Separar para Sempre Alberto Foster Camilo" Wich could mean: "Paulo Gomes Maria Gomes Tear apart Fight Bring disgust Tear apart Forever Alberto Foster Camilo"
No, not really. Nicola has respect for her finds, and they have been grounded between rocks and sand, salt and water for such a long time, some for centuries, that a kind hand rescuing them for us to see is one of the more gentle things I think they experience. And Nicola usually gives them a swish in water to get the sand off 🙂🧡
honestly, if they were realllllly old coins I wouldn't do that, but they are not that old and I am not that bothered about giving them a little rub!! x

Mary from Missouri USA
It is written in portuguese but probably by a brazilian, as "brigar" verb is not used in Portugal. It is a spell, a curse.
Congratulations Nicola, I love that picture of the cocoa rooms. I can only imagine what history that could tell. They don't build 'em like that anymore!

I guess it is a spell the message in the bottle. Maybe in portuguese:
"Paulo Gomes
Maria Gomes
Separar
Brigar
Meter nojo
Separar para Sempre
Alberto Foster Camilo"
Wich could mean:
"Paulo Gomes
Maria Gomes
Tear apart
Fight
Bring disgust
Tear apart Forever
Alberto Foster Camilo"
I guess the best is not to put in the river again... someone was wishing the brothers tears apart forever !!!! Better broke the spell
Yes! That's what it is written!
Thankyou for the translation Rosa - a very interesting message!
Thank you very much xx
Congratulations Nicole your award is well deserved. Hugs from Canada
Does it irritate anyone else when the finds are rubbed with a thumb? Over and over..... it makes me want to cry 😨👍
No, not really. Nicola has respect for her finds, and they have been grounded between rocks and sand, salt and water for such a long time, some for centuries, that a kind hand rescuing them for us to see is one of the more gentle things I think they experience. And Nicola usually gives them a swish in water to get the sand off 🙂🧡
@@ShortOrderCook Thank you! xx
honestly, if they were realllllly old coins I wouldn't do that, but they are not that old and I am not that bothered about giving them a little rub!! x
