In this video I show you the differences in crows foot designs and why the old style Snap On Tools crows foot is king and why you need to be looking for a set before they are all gone forever! Hopefully this video will help someone out and show them a tip they can use. Be on the lookout for these and if you see them be sure to snatch them up because they are getting harder to find.

a crow foot is something you need when you need it, and having the extra options to put a drive end through the back or in the normal position is amazing and I wish companies still did it
Torque adapters, crows feet, and angled wrenches are all I use on CAT equipment.
Old guy at my shop had a set of these old crows feet. He recently retired and were all sorely missing those things. Perfect for making a short wrench to fit in those cramped wing tanks on our planes.
I just saw this video and I can’t believe how many of these old school snap on crows foot I got. I have 8 different sizes. I bought these and other tools, maybe 25 yrs ago back in the late 90s from an aviation mechanic that needed money after been let go from his job. I never sold any of my tools even thou. I closed down my shop in 2004. I’m so glad I still have these around. Good video on the secrets to old school tools. P.S. I will keep mine till the end of time.
I have the Snap-On flare nut crow's foot set and use it enough where I can easily declare that they're one of my more important tools. I do agree with you, Clay, in that those old style crow's foot can be a huge time saver due to the multiple attachment points.
Yeah buddy
I never knew the the purpose or use of a crowfoot but i was taking a fuel pump off a hino diesel and a 19mm crowfoot was the absolutely only thing to do it with a 3 inch extension
Hope u guys stay afloat with the big storms that have been rolling through
Just stay safe. The tools sell themselves. 👍
Thanks for the tip, never had an older set, I will keep my eyes open for some to buy.
Worth the money
Listen to the man snap on! I need some!
Thanks for making the video’s enjoy watching them. Also the ones with the tool trucks
Thank you for watching
These videos are awesome man. Alot of great information 👍
Love it buddy, keep up these awesome videos!😀
Thank you
I really liked Snap-On tools back when they had the script lettering as they were made differently to me, the newer block lettered wrenches are way too thin and hurt my hands so I won't use them. I really think when they changed everything they cheapened the line and raised the price on everything. They seemed to change when they made all those products and distribution as it seemed more about the bottom line less about quality and making the best period.
I agree my old style SAE wrenches are better than the new ones for the reason you described. Everything is being made cheaper and sold for more now days.
Another good place to find them is a tool forum called Garage Journal. They have a classified section which you private message the seller and membership on there is free.Never been burned yet buying from a member on there yet.
I have old school short length mac with pointy open. I like it better than the curved
Clay I think the new tekton made in the usa are like the old snap on where you can put the extension either way
Last week I had to use a crow’s foot wrench on a short extension with my MG325 to break an evaporator line nut loose under the dash in order to get the expansion valve out. Doing it by hand would’ve only twisted the line and possibly broken it and there was no room under there for a regular open end or flare nut wrench. Crow’s foot saved my ass on that one.
Nice
Right on time clay just got off work
Awesome. I'm looking to pickup a quality set with an extra feature, like these. I used to work as a bicycle mechanic in the 80's and your setup reminds me of the Super-thin cup and cone wrenches (Park Tool) for adjusting bearing preload on hubs. Still have em in my box after 40 years.
When you need a crows foot, you need it. Otherwise I try to avoid using them.
You can use a breaker bar for extra reach with the hole on the end on the old style. Let’s say to do final tightening of something in transmission area maybe.
Some old style are better wish they bring them back like they did with hard handle screwdrivers
Prices just went up $100 on eBay.
They have been steady increasing from what i have seen
Awesome vid
My snap on crows 30 years old use them every day of the week
Great feature that you pointed out and one that SO never should have eliminated from their CW. I have personally never seen that kind of wrench myself. I always look for tools that offer more options for attachment or tools that help get me to inaccessible fastener locations. Great video.
I use the exact set up when I need to detach hydraulic cooling lines on Oliver and White tractors. The tapered frame rails are really tight. I been thinking about a set of the tribus ratcheting wrenches
I have a lot of dust collectors that my buddy's give me for having but when they need to use them they are right there can I borrow it. I mean sometimes you to be creative but if you have the right tool for the job it make it so nice. Keep em coming Clay. 🔧🔧🔧🔧
Very true
Have flare nut style standard and metric. Great to have. Also 4 way angle heads. Metric and standard. Lifesavers.
I've seen Komatsu & Cat mechs use those big crows feet quite a few times on hydraulic lines. Myself at home in shop, not so much. Lol
Notification gang 🔥
I have an old standard set from Snap-On and my metric set is Harbor Freight.
How is d harbour freight one?
I’ve never seen the old type, they do look useful! I bought mine in about 1997, initially for working on JCB backhoes, so looks like the new type have been around for a while.
Yeah they are old. If you can find a set snatch em up you will find this trick useful
@@KoonTrucking Are the old style Cr-Mo?
@@KoonTrucking Yeah, the number of times I’ve used just the crowsfoot to run something down when a 3” extension on the end would have helped!
Now when you go to get a warranty on them you will get the new one
Yep
Just seen your vid (a year after you've post) ... TEKTON makes their crowsfoot sockets in Michigan they're marked U.S.A. ... I picked up a set 3/8" drive , so far I'm proud of em . Still seems like Snap-on and Wright are final word on flarenut sockets thou .
I have the newer design, and would definitely like to find a set of the old design.
They are worth way more than the new ones !
Hell now snap will just make a version with one on the bottom and another version with one on the side lol gotta make $300 twice they got that figured out lol
Not exactly the same but Blue Point makes a torque adapter that ratchets and you can put an extension in the end
I have an oddball set of CW that while a bit thick and clunky offer a rarely seen feature. The CW are ratcheting flares are reversed by flipping the wrench over. The brand is TAC i think. It has been some time since i have looked at them. The set is a bit older and i think dates back to the 1950's. I think that because i found ads in Popular Mechanics magazine for them. I was given them over 40 years ago and they have been in my toolbox ever since, but i have never once needed them.
Hello again Clay
Thank you for another Great Video. That's good to know. I will be on the lookout for them. Tell me where did get the Crows Foot Socket holder? Again thank you
I picked it up off the snap on truck.
@@KoonTrucking Thank you kindly
Did you ever find 100th anniversary snap on ratchets you want.
My dealer has a couple of different ones.
Columbus Ohio area.
FIRST!!!!
Haha 😂
👍
Hey clay I took a break from UA-cam for a while I wanted to know is Wild Bill in Wylie still work there haven't seen them on any of your latest videos in the past five months
No they don’t
Are the Snap on Flank Drive Extra are they any good. I thought buying metric and standard size.
I don’t know honestly never tested them. The FDX sockets I wasn’t that impressed with
Crows feet are that tool you have to force yourself to try a situation to use them in. I had a set and never needed them.
All depends what you're working on. On equipment I've used them often
Yea, if you work on a lot of hydraulic stuff they're pretty necessary.
Its mostly for hydraulic stuff. I've only used my set once to change a hydro boost, but that one time I used it, I realized there was absolutely no other tools that would be able to be used. You will almost never need them, but when you do, there is no other replacement
3👍👍
snap-on part number FZ1 pretty much renders this whole concern moot. look it up
Only if you have the room for the offset. Many times there isn’t room that’s why you need the crows foot to start with
That’s pretty slick, I think I can find a use for that
I use the snap on extension connectors all the time, mostly in pairs. They certainly come in handy. Hamilton should show them off in a video, not many people seem to know about them. I have the FZ2 3/8 and TZ2 1/4 sets.
Are those crow's feet wrenches rated for an impact?
Definitely, i use mine that way all the time. That's the only way to use them.
You will get inner square wear but that’s normal.
Old school is normally better..Everything is redesigned to saved them money.
