That’s my neighborhood. Black bears are not a concern. I chase them out of my yard all the time. They check the doors handles on the cars almost every night. They are just giant destructive raccoons. A pain in the butt. Moms with cubs get a bit agitated, stand up and huff. We have mom bears walk through regularly, teaching the cubs to break into trashcans cars and homes. I like seeing them in open spaces where they belong. Good backcountry food practices are important, but I’m not at all concerned about safety with black bears after 17 years and 100+ encounters with them. You have an exponentially higher chance of being killed by a drunk driver on the way to the trailhead than ever having a black bear attack. They come in all sorts of colors as well, from reddish cinnamon to deep glossy black. Nice vid!

There’s a good amount of people who don’t filter ever. It’s more common than you think.

In Afrikaans (my language in South Africa) you would say: "Baie mooi!" Pronounced: "Buy a moi" and the "mooi" word pronounced as "Samui" as in the island "Ko Samui"

The Whimsical Woman, if you can find sole bear scat, sit it right out side her tent door.

I just love the fact you are/were back on the trail Jen recording your moments and thoughts, and us being virtually with you both. Love your opening sequence on this one btw... oh and that bear scare, that scared the crap out of me too watching it and your reaction, but you were calm as a cucumber, the pro wilderness hiker in you kicked-in in that moment... but damn That would have been something to remember, right!
I hope you got her back for that one, haha.
