  • Day 6 of my Tahoe Rim Trail thru-hike: Saying goodbye to the Pacific Crest Trail
Film date: Thursday, August 6, 2020
It was a chillier than normal morning and it felt really good. The scenery today was stunning and we were able to cover more ground. We finally broke off from the PCT and it left me feeling excited to experience a new trail.

I recently finished watching your PCT Playlist and I loved it so much. I was sad that it came to an end, but inspires me to complete it one day. Did you ever do a final review on your pack and tent?

You should also do the parts of the JMT that you missed Starburst. From Red's Meadow to Yosemite Valley. Or you could hike down to Hetch Hetchy reservoir, the Little Yosemite Valley. That is what it looked like before it was dammed for San Francisco's water supply.

Love how you document your backpacking adventures. I did my first backpacking trip in the Sierra a few weeks ago and felt the same way. It was basically heaven! I was mindblown at the beauty around every bend in the trail. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Would you ever do the PCT linking the PNT with the CDT? It sounds like an incredible hike, I believe it would take 9-10 months, I don't believe its been done. However, Andrew Skurka did do the Great Western Loop. Plotting potential hikes in lockdown in Ireland. 😄😄

It's too bad you couldn't have campfires and find some juniper to put on the fire, because you could of taken some smoke baths. The smoke from the juniper helps kill bacteria.

The good thing about that crossing on 89 is that you can hear a vehicle coming well before you can see it, so you generally have plenty of time to cross the highway without any problems. It's very cool seeing video of places I've hiked.

Imagine being able to use your feet as an air freshener in your sleeping bag! These days I'm not sure which would drive me nuts on a long distance hike first - the absence of soap or of fresh veggies daily! It's strange what age does to you. Thank you for another lovely video.

Regarding the rashes you both experienced. It looked like on some parts of the trail there was a plant called cow parsnip crowding the trail. This plant will cause a skin rash and is made worse by sun exposure due to phototoxicity. It's not as bad as it's cousins giant hogweed or wild parsnip, but still problematic. A local botanist or park staff may be able to verify (or not). Once you know what it looks like you know to avoid it.
Great scenery! It's wonderful to see you two enjoying the outdoors and having fun along the way despite the challenges. Thanks for sharing.

Another funny fun video . . . My feet quit smelling when I started wearing Darn Tough socks (not a sponsor ;o) Maybe it's the wool they are made from. Polyester is not good. DT socks always smell clean even when they are crusty with dirt . . .
I get a rash like that as well but its 90% of the time only on my calves. This year I got some on my calves hiking the sierras. I never get it in the winter. Turns out that it's what they call "Golfer's Rash" which is a type of *vasculitis*. If you look it up they always show horrible pictures of the worst cases. . . Mine looks just like yours.

@@JenniferMabus When I'm home and get it , it goes away in about 36 hrs but can last for a week on trail. It never bothers me. I use to worry about it but not any more. The first time I got it 25 years ago I thought it was poison oak. Doctor have me cortisone but that did not work. I tested it on one leg but got it the same on both legs anyway. It comes and goes in the summer for 20 years but almost always just at the beginning of summer. It's an *autoimmune* issue
