    I asked for more Daron, I got more Daron!
    I suspect that Daron Malakian struggles with crippling stage fright, and that getting into the zone with the guitar is his way of feeling comfortable in front of a lot of people. I feel similarly, in a way. I grew up in an authoritarian household where I didn't get along with the parents very well despite trying, so when I grew up and got away from that, I came to really enjoy embracing that libertarian side of myself. I love it when rock and metal heads unleash the beast on stage, and what always drew me to Daron was the way he looks proudest of himself when he's getting the most outside of normal expectations. Or something like that. It's tough to explain, but he's special to me in so many ways.

    Hi Otu, I could watch you all day playing SOAD riffs. You are the only one on YT I found who is able to recreate the good old SOAD sound. Even themselves weren't able to recreate it with their last album, and that makes me sad. SOAD were an institution back in the NuMetal era and I miss all these sounds... Thanks for bringing us back the good vibes! \m/

    Dudeeee so true! for many years i've watched Wes Borland videos and there was something that only him can get, that feeeling and tone its in his hands. For example everytime i heard Counterfeit alot of ppl can play it but then Wes plays and its that good feeling. Amazing video keep the fantastic work man!

    • @dannyhood8857
      @dannyhood8857 15 днів тому

      Yes. If your hands are uncomfortable playing you will sound awkward uncomfortable. But it doesn't matter who's playing, if their sound is shit running through the amplifier, it'll sound like shit recording. Today I don't know, maybe their are producers who know how to change it. The worst thing we did recording guitar tone was keeping 'volume low' on our marshalls half stack.. Wrong, Play the way you would live with band bass n drums. On 50 watts marshall was cranked halfway on #5. Through 100 watt s head was on #3. T?Volume on 3 through a hundred watt marshal head is LOUD! Prehistoric screaming, squalid habitat. F*'*ed up! Snarling black marble

    You make a good point that I've often reminded people. You can try all you like to sound like that person, but you'll never be exactly the same because you don't have his or her fingers. You've tapped into that individuality though and found the magic sauce for replicating Daron's sound.

    glad to see that your and my own process for recreating said tones is more or less the same, it all comes down on using your lateral sound holes that happen to be on your face, as simple as that. with experience anyone could be more or less learn by heart what gear to use to achieve their final result, reverse engineering the whole thing. great one, otu

    the guitar sound of toxicity & STA is is really complex. From what i 've read it's a mix of 2 -3 amps blended together per channel. played though a wide array of guitars.
    The Myz/Hyp sound is more straight forward. 2 guitars (62 SG + early SG special) through the same amp (modded SLP) for distortion!

    If I recall correctly, the first album was a couple of JCM 800 heads and Marshall cabs and a dual rectifier blended in. I feel like toxicity was dual rectifier and a mesa cab

  • @guitarlair
    @guitarlair 3 місяці тому

    That's why I hate using plugins and simulators for guitar, they lack the real thing, you need to EQ the shit out of it to get smth useable...
    Daron's tone in Toxicity and Steal this Album is clearly a Dual Rectifier, I noticed that the first time I played that amp... but his tone is completely different on the Mesmerize and Hipnotize albums, and then I found out he used a Marshall Superlead and it all made sense because his tone had less gain and it was sharper...but funny thing is I love both his tones, because like you said, it's him, it's on his fingers.

    Несмотря на интересный и неповторимый стиль игры у Дарона, играет то он плохо. У него много косяков, да даже в строй струны попасть ему сложно. Возможно эти шероховатости и некая новичковость и делает его игру столь интересной для обычных слушателей. Автору уважуха за перепевки!

    Hey, your video really also make me think about the SOAD guitar tone. I‘m also a toxicity influenced guy (also in my guitar riffing). I totally understand your point that the playing technique of Daron is causing a specific tone, which the most guitarists can‘t copy. Last year on a concert i discovered a Band you should check out. This female guitarist is Not copying SOAD but sounds very similar (and is singing at the same time). ua-cam.com/video/bnHsnIZktIc/v-deo.html what do you think?
