The idea that people may not know SOAD makes me so sad.
Charles Randall same
Ikr when I was in highschool that's all kids listens to
but then some get to discover SOAD
Truly is a lonely day
@@ahnaftahmid872 bro there moms said listen to the clean one only but they still didnt
System of a Down was the reason why I started playing guitar and here I am 10 years later watching this video smiling ear to ear to see people appreciated this band as much as I do. Good job guys!
4 years later. Still waiting for that new album aren't we? 😭 at least we got a couple new songs
Some viewers might have never heard of SOAD? Makes me feel so old
Stewart Brand hahahha soad is the best band that ive ever eard
agreed
I'm 15 and I LOVE system I wish more people knew them nowadays
More evidence we NEED a new album!! Tho I did see one kid at a local high school with a stylized SOAD shirt but that might have just been a hot topic tee :/
I'm 14 and system of a down is all I listen to.
To me, Malankian's sound has always been very raw: an electric guitar and an amp. Period.
I love how instead of yelling wake up he yelled you wanted to
Lmao
:/
Im 69th like
@@nbsarkar6911 darn it
Still got the same vibe going
Daron used to perform with a Fender early on.
yeah i saw him use a strat way back in the day, i've also seen footage of him using a rhoads
He used an Ibanez Iceman too
On studio (especially in toxicity album) uses many guitars like a jackson flying v randy rhoads,a les paul and a headless guitar (im not sure what model)
Pd:sorry for my bad english
@@patricio97 Ibanez Axstar AX70
Also a headless, and a Les Paul, though I think that was only for recording Toxicity
I think this needs a revisit, their sound wasn’t tight enough, you gotta have the thickness while still being tight
Agreed. The sound is way off. Also AFAIK he wouldn't use P90 but either standard pick-ups in his SGs or SH-6 and 498T in his Icemen.
@@deinemudda4612 i thought it was way on
Really all it needs is a clean boost going into the rig to tighten it up, and get some more of the pick attack in there.
Uhm it says “Without busting the bank” 🤦🏻♂️
Don't compare à recorded guitar sound and a "dry" amp live sound. It doesn't make sense. Malakian use hybrid and valves amps and mix em to have a unique recorded guitar sound. The way I see these kind of vidéo is 'Are you in the ballpark " tone wise. And it's good. A great médium oriented guitar sound as Malakian uses
Bea is having so much fun it should be illegal
1700 bucks is busting the bank to me hahaha
JamSessionTV if you have a guitar and amp it isnt
JamSessionTV it's definitely not cheap, but for a lot of people who play for a living it's not exactly a huge amount either
They have a budget in mind when they start. On the same note you could get an Epi SG for a bit less and the smaller Egnater amp and get the same tone for easily under 1k..... But you can absolutely gig with the setup that they have selected.
Well yeah they isn't sound like for completely broke people, you could save for a few months and get this which is the point of the video
Seriously that's not budget at all lol
Get me some Origins Of Symmetry tones right now boys
YAAASSS MUUUUSSSSEEEEEE
+i am nothing much yaaaas
+i am nothing much stop
+henri best stop
+guitarfan149 nooooo
Please do SOAD BY busting the bank
they... its... nevermind, imma let you figure it out
Gibson SG, Mesa Boogie or Marshall amp, Strymon Dig, Boss DD, MXR Phase 90 and maybe a metalzone
and also a warwick or thunderbird bass
@@KeeperOfPoops why the metalzone?, the distortion of a mesa boogie is enough
I remember back in 2005 going over to a friends house (I think I was around 13 years old) and hearing SOAD for the first time. It was their latest album release at that point (MEZMERIZE) and B.Y.O.B was cranking out of the stereo. I remember just being blown away by it. The fast guitar riffs, the insane vocals and harmonies, catchy chorus, melodic bass, dynamic drums that never missed a beat. That album had it all. I've been a fan ever since. Wish SOAD was still making albums. I also enjoyed Scars on Broadway (Daron Band) and Serj solo albums.
FEED US LIES FROM THE TABLECLOTH
Shimmy is a totally underrated SOAD song
Definitely
sound like lamb of god! please!
yeah!
ya that would kick ass
+Zarg Mesa Boogie Marks are too expensive :P
Ti Hammlet
that's exactly why I want them to do it, to see what they come up that can sound as close as possible to it on a budget :)
Thankfuly used Mark IVs are rather cheap and sound perfect for this kind of sound. But if it has to be new I'd be curious too.
This is really awesome!! I've always loved SOAD for Darren's riffs especially and their synergy with the rest of the instruments. Thanks for the demo.
It’s actually heartwarming to see how much fun and joy playing their old school time favorite band’s songs/riffs brought them
Matt! How can you say you're making a video about the best guitarist in the world, when the best guitarist is right next to you?! :DDD
Haha, my bad!
lol
Sounds like Billy talent would be a great video
+1
+1000 thatd be sweet
+mattjjb Hell yes. I'd guess a Classic Vibe Tele, a Phase 90, and a small Fender combo.
+LamarKafka definitely , he used a blonde tele called 'crispy chicken' for all of their records I'm sure , amazing sparky guitar tone would love to see a sounds like
+LamarKafka a fuzz for some riffs, like the devil in a midnight mass
+1 for the Egnater Tweaker series shoutout! I've had the 15 watt Tweaker head since January and have been LOVING it!
My process is bust the bank and not even sound like who I’m trying to sound like.
I would like a "Sounds like Rabea Massad". Try and replicate your own sound on the cheap.
I believe they already did a "Sounds like Dorje" on Rob's channel.
+ElijahCBK That was years ago already though. An updated one would be nice
That's very true, I didn't think about that. I would actually really like to see that now, haha.
A "Sounds like Toska" would be sick as well!
Nice :D Now I want to see a Sounds like Maximum The Hormone!
They're a killer band!
Soad is my favorite band, Daron malakian i love you.
Nailed it! This is easily my favorite show on the web. Great job guys.
Sound like early Korn pls
Hell yeah!
Nanogon Ibanez universe guitars
GunsnRosesfan2012 It's slightly busting the bank
Yes
that is a good idea my friend
Do Sounds Like:
Metallica (do this one with Chappers)
Green Day (it's a must!!!)
Buckethead
Steve Vai
Avenged Sevenfold
Yngwie Malmsteen
Eddie Van Halen
GREEN DAY
Green day is one of the simplest tones to achieve. les paul and ssh strat. and the occasional use of a vibrato pedal
+Ameen Singh buckethead is a must XD
Magikarp Gyarados It's an amazing tone, simple one, but don't think it's easy to achieve. It's damn hard to decide just how distorted it is. The amp setting is very specific.
+Ameen Singh it takes a while to get it correct but it's fairly simple. what I did was keep the mids at roughly 12 o'clock 11 or 1 are also close. bass between 8 and 9 o'clock and treble between 12 and 2. I had the master volume at full and the gain at roughly 12 o'clock. the guitars I've tried this with are an epiphone les paul special II and a squier affinity ssh stratocaster. and my amp is a Marshall MG10CF. I managed to get it on dirt cheap gear. it took about an hour and a half to get it totally correct but I got damn close
I'm pretty sure he always used SGs in the studio and the Ibanez Iceman was part of a marketing/endorsement deal.
Les Pauls as well. You can see him playing one in the Toxicity album pictures.
He played icemans for the self titled album (System of a down) , and (toxicity). Then for (mezmerize) and (Hypnotize) he uses a Gibson sg.
Here he play on Fender with humbuckers )
ua-cam.com/video/5b3imdhboB4/v-deo.html
@@kaidencoleman5947 He used a Strat on the Self Titled album. He had a lot of guitars that most people don't know about. Most bands don't use their studio guitars live.
@@featheryfemme yeah I remember he played the strats too. Agreed he played a bunch of guitars.
That was really great! Who would have known, that it is such a simple task to get the sound right. SOAD!!! One of my favorites!
This tone is epic. You guys have it spot on and I'm using this for my gigs when we play those really riffy bands. Thank you guys!!!
Sounds like Alex Lifeson or Ritchie Blackmore please!
+ADRIAN INC. The hard part about Alex's tone is that it changed so much over the years. He went from playing a straight up Gibson/Marshall rig in the 70's to playing a strat with tons of chorus and delay in the 80's, and even went other places from there.
yes, some Blackmore neoclassical would be good
+ADRIAN INC. YES
Blackmore !!
Blackmore hell yeah, it'll probably just be 70s tribute strat and a marshall though
Great work fellas (as always). Really liking the simple set up - much to my liking - and think it sounds epic. Just goes to show that sometimes less is definitely more!
Would love sound like system by breaking the bank, and try focussing more on Steal This Album and Toxicity. I'm sure he used a Tube Screamer with the iceman and a Marshall
And here i sit in 2020 playing iceman into tubescreamer in dropped A#, the influence was strong xD
Hands down to this day my favorite two albums
wow, that was a nice trip to memory lane. Made me dust of my old S.O.A.D. albums :)
Sounds like Korn please, sure the riffs are mostly easy but getting the effects sounds under budget could be a fun challenge
+Tiny Star I can tell you already the guitar would be the Ibanez RG-7421
I think that you nailed the tone. And I loved the "you wanted to" from Rabea
thank you so much for this
love this tone
sounds like MEGADETH
+jet black
I dont think they can handle Dave's riffs
+Roger Schooneveld Hell, even Dave nowadays can't handle some of his own riffs live!
Can't blame him though, 33 years of gigging, injuries and heavy drug history can do that to you.
+Roger Schooneveld lmao, are you for real? i guess you haven't seen bea play on his band.
YES
+jet black
A guitar with a JB (e.g. Chapman CAP-10)
OD e.g. Boss SD1, tubescreamer
JCM800-style amp (e.g. Egnater Tweaker)
EQ (e.g. Boss GE-7, MXR 6 Band or MXR 10 band EQ)
fuck around with settings
Congrats you have the Megadeth tone.
Megadeth's tone isn't particularly unique in my opinion - it's the songwriting that makes it special.
Sounds like Prince? E.g - Why you wanna treat me so bad
That was excellent. I love SOAD so finding this video was quite a treat
I watched the end of this video a good ten times. Thank you for this whole series. Well done, boys.
sound like Killswitch engage! :-)
YES!!
Hell yeah
Yess

Guitar with emg/fishman -> maxon od808 -> laney ironheart

I love this series. You guys are great!
That guitar is just beautiful! It's exactly what I'd be looking for when it comes to design.
Would love to see you guys do Metallica.
sounds like Smashing Pumpkins?
Please!
Hell yeah.
+2007 Mikey Way YESSS
Absolutely yes!!
mhm
Great job guys! I'm a big system fan. I appreciate this one!
Nice work guys! I’m new to the guitar scene and I’ve been trying to find this exact sound. Thanks!
Sounds like Agent Fresco! Lovely t-shirt Matt!
Haha, hi guys! Fingers crossed, big fan here! :-)
thanks guys...now I will only be listening to System for the next 2 months ;)
These videos are great ! I would love to see like, a Sounds like Clapton ! Keep them coming guys!
great job guys, loved the little outtakes at the end lol.
Sounds great, as I've come to expect by now. :D
Any chance you can add to your to-emulate list:
Nuno Bettencourt / Extreme (Warheads, He-Man Woman Hater, etc)
Kim Thayil / Soundgarden (Spoonman, Jesus Chrirst Pose, etc)
Daita / Siam Shade (Triptych, 1/3 No..., Solomon's Seal, etc)
sound like K-ON!
Yes!!
Cool to know that I'm not the only one who's suggested this, that series has some awesome riffs and I'm sure that the rigs would be pretty affordable (Epiphone Les Paul Standard Heritage Cherry Sunburst/Marshall DSL40, Fender Jazz Bass 3-Colour Sunburst/Fender Rumble 100)
@@andrewpappas9311 left handed fender jazz bass if they go for a one to one
@@drummerman6488 True, yeah
This video got me to by a tweaker amp and I absolutely love it. Thanks guys
You guys do an amazing job on these videos. Please keep them coming.
sound like dinosaur Jr sound like my bloody valentine
both of those would be great
Dinosaur Jr. For sure
+guitarfan149 MBV would be impossible ahah!
Sound like Muse!

Thoroughly enjoying this series, guys, keep 'em coming!
(My requests: Meshuggah, Porcupine Tree, Opeth.)
I'd really like to see some bass stuff!
Sound like kevin shields. Now that would be a video I'd love to watch...
YESSSS
That would be crazy
just get a jazzmaster, a tube amp, fuzz pedal, and lots of delay/reverb.
Smashed it! I think a lot of it was to do with your technique also!
hey guys last week i requested SOAD and im really you guys did. thanks. I've always been
drawn to the SG. now i really want one
6:35 it sounds like everything except suite pee
no it sounds like suite pee too
Well he kinda buffed it... but i do recognize the riff
Its by the settings, and this idiots used like 8 of treble and 5 of mids and bass, its supposed to be like 5 of treble and bass and 7-8 on mids LOL
Sounds like periphery!!
Ehhh, thats going to be very difficult considerring how many different tones they have in the AX FX
That tone is so Perfect!!!!
"Feel good guitar demonstrations" 😀🤘🏻 great work guys, system is truly about simplicity when it comes to the guitar tone.
I fucking love System Of A Down.
So, is the Egnater Tweaker the new DSL?
Hahahah not quite!
+Rabea Massaad sounds a whole lot better imho, and it's for more versatile.
+james souleyrette yup
Really nailed the tone in this one, great job guys
They have their sound fairly spot on the amp sound amazing
Do sound like synyster gates and zacky vengeance..
RatHead Master Thats an amazing idea
Rat Head I love Syn and Zachy!
I feel honoured to watch this so early, i'd like to thank......the world
I watched through the video just to hear you play. awesome. SOAD!!
Huge System/Daron fan, I was going to be really picky but I reckon you guys really nailed this one, thank you!
Sounds like The Edge! That would be very interesting.
+Brandon Yancar To stay under budget they might have to resort to a multi-effects unit like the Tech21 Fly Rig 5 (hopefully Andertons carries that one)...
Sounds like Black Stone Cherry would be amazing!
You guys need to show the settings on the amp. Thanks for all your vids. Another great job.
Aerials was the first song I learned to play from start to finish on guitar. At one point (before Mesmerize and Hypnotize) I could play all of their songs all the way through. VERY FUN songs for learners to get acquainted with the guitar.
Do Biffy Clyro in the run up to the release of their new album
Sound Like Korn maybe?
Bea, you never fail to amaze me with your sonic versatility. Is there anything you can't play? Aerials is one of my favorite SOAD songs.
Amazing series guys! Greetings from Mexico
please do a volbeat episode. that would be killer
Deathklok
+Darius Rimeika Dethklok
Dave.
yes!
That moment when you read Deathkok accidentally
According to a clip from adult swim, Svygard's setup is a kraken amp, and I assume you then could use the Brendan Small sig epiphone explorer ("the thunderhorse")
That sounds great in general!
Excellent job! very accurate tone shaping. Please do a sounds like Disturbed!
Deftones The Cult Weezer and Porcupine Tree also Alice In Chains please? Thanks. Good to see you guys had fun with this one, especially you Rabea.
