Heisenberg - haha the ironic thing is our GameCube still works perfectly fine today, but we only got our Wii a few years or so after it and it got so old it can't properly read some games anymore (e.g. Super Smash Bros. When they inevitably do I really hope that they give us the option to enable higher resolution textures. IMO the N64 has the second or third worst looking graphics out of all of Nintendo's consoles (with the Virtual Boy being the worst and the NES being either second or 3rd depending on the game) because of how polygonal and low-res everything was.

if you hate the controllers you are missing the point. you are supposed to play on the floor and remember the days of large CRT tvs and the warm glow as you game for hours.
Personally, I think it's just Nintendo being Nintendo and cutting costs at the expense of the player. Saying that the controllers were made to replicate sitting on the floor next to TV like in the old days would be valid reason if the cords were just as long as the original. Problem is that the cords are noticably shorter and TVs these days are much bigger. I don't have a problem with the idea of "replicating the olden days." In fact I like it. It's why I have no problem with how switching games work: get up off the couch and switch the games. I just want a longer controller cord.
Great review! As a collector who already owns alot of these games on an actual SNES already, I don't feel like I need to get a classic edition. However, it is Definately worth the investment since buying original copies of these games will probably put you over $1000 margin. (Games like Earthbound alone, cost $300.) But I hope Nintendo can keep up!
To anyone having an issue with the controller wire length, my solution to that was a longer HDMI cable, and sitting the console itself closer to me, that way you don't have to get up and reset and burn your eyes out sitting close to your television, it's just way more convenient that way.
yes I never had a n64 I was lured over to sony at around about the same time and couldn't afford both so I have never really played any n64 games and would love the opportunity to own and play up to 15 games I've never touched before
3:28 Actually if you use a Wii Classic Controller, the home button on the controller acts as the reset button, which is why I prefer playing with that over the standard controllers that come shipped with it.
To be honest sitting on the floor to play the games brings you back to childhood, maybe i'm the only one here but when I was a kid I ALWAYS sat on the floor when playing on my Games Consoles and in fact I still do even with the wireless controller consoles, I can't help it I just feel so comfortable and in the zone on the floor. Probably why I have terrible posture too but oh well.
I work at Walmart so I was able to snag a mini SNES quite easily. Only 20 people lined up at my store to buy one and half of them were re sellers. As far as the NES Classic, it honestly was dumb luck that I even found one. My pharmacist told me there was one back there so I took my break and immediately ran back there to buy it. I eventually ended up buying an extender for the cord after unsuccessfully purchasing and returning a third party controller that didn't even work when I plugged it in. Thankfully, I don't need to buy a second controller seeing as the official NES Classic controllers are also nonexistent. They also make great set pieces for my bookshelf along with my amiibos when I'm not playing them.
Chaos89P DK is a Nintendo franchise. Rare never owned Donkey Kong, just made some games for Nintendo using the license. We won't see any actual Rare games on an N64 classic, but will see Donkey Kong 64 at least. Diddy Kong Racing is a no go due to Banjo and Conker. Goldeneye would also be impossible due to licensing.
You never know. We have Capcom, Konami and Square-Enix games in the NES/SNES classic. If there could me a deal with them there can also be a deal with Microsoft (plus, Minecraft is on Switch and 3DS, so its not unheard of)
The SNES/SFC controllers have a slight difference; the X/Y buttons on the North American controller are indented and with the SFC controller, they are domed just like the A/B buttons.
Orrenn I disagree, up to 150$ or more could mean that it only costs 10¢, where it costs a lot gives a price range of expensive. More vague would be, it has a cost.
Futuristic271 Touche. You got me there. Seriously though, he clearly meant 150 and up. He just used some extra unnecessary words that confused the meaning. Just a mistake is all.
Seriously? Stop complaining about the cord length. You need to have the systems at an arms reach in order to change games, create save states and rewind. The HDMI wires are extra long to accommodate having the system close to you. Other than that, keep up the good work TheJWittz!
Adam Sampson yup that's what I said. I have so many HDMI cords from other things that are long just not being used and long HDMI cords aren't even expensive
Adam Sampson while yes you do need to be close to the console to change it. It's also annoying that you have to sit super close to your TV if you don't have an extension cord
NES and SUPER NES were two wonderful video games, both for their incredible library of games and for the technical advances they brought in their respective eras. I remember that when the ATARI 2600 reigned, the games had very primitive and square graphics and most didn't even have a soundtrack. Those that had a plot, stage progression or well-defined ending were also rare. Then the NES came along and modernized all of this. For the first time, games had recognizable characters and settings, well-made theme music, different stages, a plot and a real ending. The games were no longer repetitive. Some more time and the SUPER NES appeared, which, together with GENESIS/MEGA DRIVE, brought even more advances, such as multiple background layers and which often still moved separately (so-called parallax), large sprites, very wide color palettes, stereo sound , in addition to, in the case of the SUPER NES: zoom, rotation and transparency effects. Oh, and of course, there are also more buttons on the controls, increasing the gameplay possibilities. For all this, 2D games were brought to a peak (although the excellence in 2D was NEO-GEO, but this was so expensive and inaccessible, that it was not something for mere mortals like us lol). NES and SUPER NES are two great video games and congratulations on the excellent review!!😊
Regarding going back to the home menu: If you own a Wii Classic Controller or CC Pro, you can use the home button on that to go back to the NES Classic or SNES Classic home menu. Unfortunately there's no way to do that w/ the included gamepad, but you can restart the game by holding L + R + Start + Select.
I would have made it a 30 game console by adding: Super Street Fighter II, Chrono Trigger, Sunset Riders, Kirby's Adventure 3, Final Fight 2, Mega Man 7, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Super Mario All-Stars, and Street Fighter Alpha 2.
Ok, more games could have been included, different games, but judge it for what it is rather than what it isn't. Each offers a near authentic experience for a fraction of the cost it would be to amass all the games included on each.
If you haven't purchased either and are looking to get one today, I'd suggest getting the SNES classic, over the NES classic (if you had to pick just one).
5:53 I *think* the reason this didn't include Chrono Trigger is because you can get it on the DS for a decent price. They likely didnt want to bite into their 2/3ds sales too much.. This is how i bought the game. Also, Nintendo announced they are going to re-release the NES classic next year, so hopefully people will get a chance to buy it for retail.
lyianx that game was for the original DS and it came out on the DS 9 years ago, it's probably not in print anymore (though you could get it used or "new" but unopened) and nobody is going to buy a 3DS just to play Chrono Trigger DS, they would just get it on Virtual console (provided they had a Wii or WiiU and maybe it will come to the Switch's virtual console in the future) or just emulate. People would probably buy a 3DS for Pokemon and then maybe grab Chrono Trigger DS since they would already have a 3DS at that point.
Might get some hate but I think people overhyped the nes classic, most of the games didn’t age well and the main reason the play it is to see how much games have advanced. SNES however, those games are fun and classic and have aged extremely well. It just feels like people went wild for the NES because it was the NES.
I tend to disagree. I think the NES titles, despite being in 8-bit, are still pretty functional in terms of gameplay and controls. They should've included Duck Hunt and Wild Gunman alongside a mini zapper with the NES Classic. But maybe, it's because I don't care about the graphics as much as the gameplay.
I meant a version of the NES classic and SNES classic that plays only JRPGs. While the Classics have their share of JRPGs, it would be nice if they included JRPGs that never got an English release before like Sweet Home on NES and Shin Megami Tensei on the SNES.
I know what you were saying, I was just being facetious. While sure, it would be nice to live in a world where that kind of thing can happen, you have to remember that Nintendo is taking a risk by re-releasing their older games to a modern audience, even if a good chunk of the people buying this are part of the older gaming generation. They can't afford to make their classic console have literally only one genre make an appearance, because the appeal for that is so niche it doesn't make sense from a business perspective. The only smart decision is to do what they did and have a wide variety of titles to choose from. Titles that, I hope I need not point out, Nintendo still actually has the rights to use.
Just buy them all from the Wii's Virtual Console. Aside from Japan-only releases (which require knowledge of Japanese to play, anyway), they've got every major JRPG release from the time on there, including ones from other systems like the Phantasy Star games, except you'll need a Wii U for "Earthbound" or "Earthbound Beginnings."
Compucles Just emulate the Japanese-only ones, many have probably been fan translated and Nintendo wasn't going to get any money from you for those games anyway as they aren't selling them here.
The 8bit Do SNES controller is essential for the NES Classic/SNES Classic. It's obviously wireless and let's you get to the main menu by hitting down+Select on the controller. Beats getting up and resetting every time.
These things are designed to be scarce. These are supposed to be rare drops that Nintendo wants die hard fans to have, so I don't mind it being hard to get your hands on. That's what their purpose is. Now the switch that's the true baby right there
If I had to pick a single Nintendo game I would have liked to have seen on the SNES Classic I actually have to go with Pilotwings. I've never played the original, and I think this would've been a nice place to put it. But I'll let it all slide due to StarFox 2 and finally letting Miyu and Fay become canon.
People don't get the reason for the short controllers. The console is meant to be close to you while playing. That way you don't have to get up and reset it while you're playing those 30 games. You can always use a longer HDMI cable if you need to.
I just want to say that as someone who never played Nintendo until GameCube I'm so happy that I was able to get a snes classic when my local Walmart got 4. It's really awesome that I can play the games that MADE the franchises what they are today. I was one of those gamers who was on board with GameCube and wii but decided to switch to PS4 when the Wii u came out. Nintendo is really stepping it up tho. Watch out.
for all of you people waiting for classics that play 3D games, (not counting SNES's star fox and other games of the sort) Its probably not going to happen because it would be pretty hard to program a bunch of original models, sounds, and games in general into one console. Not to mention the fact that it would cost a lot for Nintendo to create it. Although everyone thinks there could be an N64 classic, it's just not likely. Sorry if I crushed your dreams ):
I'm sorry, the NES and SNES classics are just something I can't support. Ignoring the pretty small game library, the NESC having just one controller, the incredibly short controllers, I can't support Nintendo's stupid 'artificial demand' plan of action. "Hmmm, you know what we should do instead of making enough of our console, probably allowing us to make more money?", "What?", "MAKE ONLY A FEW! Scalpers will find a way to get a ton of them, and then they will sell them for extra money that we will never see any of!" I'm just going to be a scumbag and stick to emulating. It's free, I don't have to wake up at 6am to get one, and I don't have to spend $200 if I don't wake up at 6am.
Serious question. I want to start a UA-cam channel and when I was researching equipment, for microphones, I saw that clip on mics are pretty much the standard, but I see that you use a shotgun style mic. Aside from the technical difficulties you had in this video, would you say that shotgun style is a good way to go for someone who's on a budget?
What frustrates me is that the Eject button isn’t the button that switches games, the reset button is. Despite the fact that Eject is what you would use to take one game out and put another in, and reset just turns the console on and off again. Why not use the reset for rewinding? Rewinding is annoying to do for a mistake that makes up a few seconds and takes about 10 seconds, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but if you are stuck on one jump it adds up. And rewinding with reset makes sense. This is the only thing that really bothers me, I sit close to my tv anyway so everything else is fine. I love these consoles.
There might be a problem with cable length. I'm fairly certain that the old controllers sent interrupts to the system when buttons were pressed while the new ones are likely polled at some set frequency--I think the default rate for mice is 125Hz, but a lot of people overclock that for faster response times. Only having data sent on button press means that, unless you're pressing a button 125 times per second, the frequency of signal changes in the wire will be much lower. Generally speaking, the higher the frequency, the more problematic cross-talk becomes and the faster the signal degrades. Since they didn't make the cables very long, and the original design was only meant to be used to connect devices between the hands, I doubt they put much thought into signal integrity. It might be fine to use an extender or two (daisy-chaining connectors can also hurt signal quality due to the interface impedance and parasitic capacitance), but if it isn't registering button presses or starts registering presses that weren't made, that's the issue.
.....But are they made of Nintendium? I just want to know if I can have a car drive over it with its wheels and still be able to play games with it afterwards.
I have a Wii classic controller and the SNES Classic Edition. The classic controller does work and the home button works. It would have been nice if Nintendo put a home button the SNES controller. Also, Nintendo has said they're going to bring the NES Classic back some time next year.
I never owned either the NES or SNES, so I was thrilled to pick up an SNES classic (didn't get lucky enough to get an NES classic). However, I did own an N64 and mine is still in working condition. I managed to pick up every game I've ever wanted for the system, so I don't see myself buying a N64 classic if they make one (unless they include unreleased games, like they did for the SNES classic).
Why is your tv like 20 ft away anyway? I dont see the cord length as a problem at all. They're not gonna throw in a 100ft cord just so you can play from your garage.
I just put my SNES mini on the floor because the cords/cables stretch far enough and I am about five feet away from my tv. This method works just fine for me. As long as there's no risk of anyone stepping on it, kicking it or tripping over it.
I'm rating them an 'out of stock' out of 10.

if you hate the controllers you are missing the point. you are supposed to play on the floor and remember the days of large CRT tvs and the warm glow as you game for hours.
I'm so so happy they kept the design as pin-point to the old controllers as possible.
Am I the only one satisfied with SNES Mini's controller cord length?
Personally, I think it's just Nintendo being Nintendo and cutting costs at the expense of the player. Saying that the controllers were made to replicate sitting on the floor next to TV like in the old days would be valid reason if the cords were just as long as the original. Problem is that the cords are noticably shorter and TVs these days are much bigger. I don't have a problem with the idea of "replicating the olden days." In fact I like it. It's why I have no problem with how switching games work: get up off the couch and switch the games. I just want a longer controller cord.
I want an N64 Classic so bad.
Azurai 🙄
The Lie Detector There's nothing wrong with wanting it to happen.
NES classic in stores stocked up now!!! Go get yours
What's up with the audio sync whenever you're on camera? Is it just my player or
Robodav yeah its a huge distraction
Ah, that makes sense
Robodav it's with mine too
hpdftba why tf do you make fun of mike he a good guy
hpdftba I wish he had a little fun with it and did some on-screen shenanigans while he was doing the voice over.
If it was REALLY authentic the SNES would be yellowed.
Well then that makes me feel old... even though I probably wasn't even born when my brother got his SNES......
Only if you're a smoker, and not properly cleaned the console occasionally like you should.
Yes, I got my original SNES out of the box and it was yellow...
Mines never turned yellow.
A huge thing that the SNES mini is missing. Put a Gameboy game slot in the game cart slot and have the Super Gameboy as a game.
Dragon Warrior HOLY SHN- but you have to own the games anyway
Great review! As a collector who already owns alot of these games on an actual SNES already, I don't feel like I need to get a classic edition. However, it is Definately worth the investment since buying original copies of these games will probably put you over $1000 margin. (Games like Earthbound alone, cost $300.) But I hope Nintendo can keep up!
You can go back to the game select screen by holding down and select! It’s so weird no one seems to realize this, please like so more people can see
I love my SNES Classic, it's such a wonderful little joyfilled box to put under the tv
nice job dude
To anyone having an issue with the controller wire length, my solution to that was a longer HDMI cable, and sitting the console itself closer to me, that way you don't have to get up and reset and burn your eyes out sitting close to your television, it's just way more convenient that way.
that moment when jwittz and tamshii hikora upload on the same day
“But even the idea of playing more for these consoles are a little ridiculous.”
*Nintendo Switch Online wants to know your location*
If only they had games that were originally Japanese only on the SNES. That way I could officially play FE4 and 5.
DragonRider1396 I approve.
DragonRider1396 And Shin Megami tensei 1, 2, and if..
Maybe look at the SFC (Super Famicom) library, see if they have some of the games you want.
Surey D I'll see if that's the case (though I'll need to learn Japanese)
There is indeed a Fire Emblem game (Mystery of the Emblem) on the Super Famicom version.
I just realized you have a million subscriber......bro....good job man. I remember the days before 100k
Anyone else not get either one? I don't even want the n64 mini to happen because scalpers.
GOT DA POKE They don't help the economy, idiot. Most scalpers are already rich, so the only winners are the people who are already fortunate.
I really want an N64 Classic. It’s one of my favorite consoles (sorry NES, SNES)
yes I never had a n64 I was lured over to sony at around about the same time and couldn't afford both
so I have never really played any n64 games and would love the opportunity to own and play up to 15 games I've never touched before
These don't interest me. If they do a Gameboy classic I'm in but I think the world will riot for them.
I have both and really want the N64 version.
3:28 Actually if you use a Wii Classic Controller, the home button on the controller acts as the reset button, which is why I prefer playing with that over the standard controllers that come shipped with it.
Love the Pokemon intro
Lol you're pretty late, he's had that intro for the past 4-5 years
Are ya new here? :D
NES and SNES on Nintendo Switch feels like an expanded version of these physical products.
2019- N64 Classic
2020 Gamecube Classic
2021 Wii Classic
2022 Wii U Classic
2023 Nintendo Switch Classic
Nintendo: Time for the portables
Nintendo Switch Classic only six years after the original? Not happening. The Switch might still be in stores.
3:22 actually if you own a Wii classic controller if you click the home button it will reset it
Tamashii hiroka and jwitzz posted video today, think im gonna cry
manuel jorge Me too friend, JonTron also uploaded today, wonder what's going on that they are all uploading today.
They should do another colab after years of growing up!
Sakachi XAnime - are you screwing with m-- oh wait okay brb gotta grab some popcorn
Last time I was this early these things were in stock
Oh wow Nintendo understocking who would have guessed
buster only full screen mode captions on boss rush their doing better this time though.
My local store had 6 units of the original NES, and 30 of the SNES. I got the NES through a friend and was 7th in line for the SNES
Sadly if we do ever get a N64 mini it will likely be void of any Rare games (so like half the n64's good games)
Considering DKC is on this, I kinda doubt it. It might have a couple.
If there could me a deal with them there can also be a deal with Microsoft (plus, Minecraft is on Switch and 3DS, so its not unheard of)
AndresLionheart yeah Microsoft has been open to working with Nintendo in the past, like offering to have banjo in smash
Nah, we had a ton of awesome N64 games not made by Rare
The SNES/SFC controllers have a slight difference; the X/Y buttons on the North American controller are indented and with the SFC controller, they are domed just like the A/B buttons.
Maybe a GB Classic...
I love that amiibo case. It makes them look extra classy out of the packaging.
7:40 "Up to $150 or more." You literally could not be more vague.
Oscar McCormack he tried his best
"They sell for a lot." That would be more vague.
Just got my snes classic for $80 at target. I wasn’t even looking for one and when I found one I freaked.
The in box HDMI cord is actually quite small.
Adam Sampson while yes you do need to be close to the console to change it. It's also annoying that you have to sit super close to your TV if you don't have an extension cord
It's not that hard to get up and hit one switch then sit back down. Are you playing the games for like less than 5 minutes each?
One of these are not like the other
One of these things..doesn't belong.
i don ged it
Green Mario ged
Green Mario sesame street
You mean the SNES? They exist in 2 versions.
If this keeps up, i hope we get the gamecube classic as well someday.
i wish snes classic had terranigma
Regarding going back to the home menu: If you own a Wii Classic Controller or CC Pro, you can use the home button on that to go back to the NES Classic or SNES Classic home menu. Unfortunately there's no way to do that w/ the included gamepad, but you can restart the game by holding L + R + Start + Select.
I wish these consoles had japanese games we didn't get a chance to play like the fire emblem games and the secret of mana 2
Adam Sao atleast Europe got some US/JP only games like Earthbound
Nintendo isn't going to spend all the money needed to localize them just for these mini consoles.
Wow! How did you capture it? What setup do you use to play them? Awesome colors, resolution, etc...
Pocky and Rocky?
Mystical Ninja?Chrono Trigger?
Mega Man X2?
Donkey Kong country 2
Come on Nintendo
I would have made it a 30 game console by adding: Super Street Fighter II, Chrono Trigger, Sunset Riders, Kirby's Adventure 3, Final Fight 2, Mega Man 7, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Super Mario All-Stars, and Street Fighter Alpha 2.
Ok, more games could have been included, different games, but judge it for what it is rather than what it isn't. Each offers a near authentic experience for a fraction of the cost it would be to amass all the games included on each.
I wanted to see Kirby's Dreamland 3.
In the words of my kindergarten teacher,
You get what you get and you don't get upset.
If you haven't purchased either and are looking to get one today, I'd suggest getting the SNES classic, over the NES classic (if you had to pick just one).
You know the short Wire is fixed if you just put a desk next to the couch and place the console there right next to you.
Just give me the GameCube mini pls
Ben Shaul long ways away pal
BellowSubZero Ik
Might get some hate but I think people overhyped the nes classic, most of the games didn’t age well and the main reason the play it is to see how much games have advanced. SNES however, those games are fun and classic and have aged extremely well. It just feels like people went wild for the NES because it was the NES.
I tend to disagree. I think the NES titles, despite being in 8-bit, are still pretty functional in terms of gameplay and controls. They should've included Duck Hunt and Wild Gunman alongside a mini zapper with the NES Classic. But maybe, it's because I don't care about the graphics as much as the gameplay.
If they sell a JRPG version of the NES classic and SNES classic with a decent library of games, then I'll buy it.
ZuperNEZ Last I checked, Final Fantasy, EarthBound, Secret of Mana, and Mario RPG are all JRPGs.
Now the switch that's the true baby right there
KHmaster523 Since Nintendo's a company whose main market is casual gamers, that'd be pretty counter-intuitive.
Shill.
GBA Classic plz
David Wu with mother 3
David Wu The GBA isn't that old though.
David Wu Game Boy Macro. there you go.
People don't get the reason for the short controllers. The console is meant to be close to you while playing. That way you don't have to get up and reset it while you're playing those 30 games. You can always use a longer HDMI cable if you need to.
It doesn't have CHRONO TRIGGER!?
WHAT THE HECK, NINTENDO!?
I forgot to subscribe and I've been watching your vids for over 2 years. Good video as always 👍
Their saving Tetris for Gameboy classic
I just want to say that as someone who never played Nintendo until GameCube I'm so happy that I was able to get a snes classic when my local Walmart got 4. It's really awesome that I can play the games that MADE the franchises what they are today. I was one of those gamers who was on board with GameCube and wii but decided to switch to PS4 when the Wii u came out. Nintendo is really stepping it up tho. Watch out.
Wake me up when we get a game cube mini
Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep
wake me up when we get a Dreamcast mini
You are still the best after all these years...
that outro.....
Dat audio sinc tho 0_0
BionicMan I thought it was just me
He literally said in the beginning that his microphone wasn't working.
Super Saiyan Devil I know, but I thought the sync issue was my Bluetooth.
for all of you people waiting for classics that play 3D games, (not counting SNES's star fox and other games of the sort) Its probably not going to happen because it would be pretty hard to program a bunch of original models, sounds, and games in general into one console. Not to mention the fact that it would cost a lot for Nintendo to create it. Although everyone thinks there could be an N64 classic, it's just not likely. Sorry if I crushed your dreams ):
20 years later:Nintendo switch *classic*
Did they censor Metroid? Because I did 100% completion and didn't get the zero suit ending. Did I do something wrong?
I'm sorry, the NES and SNES classics are just something I can't support. Ignoring the pretty small game library, the NESC having just one controller, the incredibly short controllers, I can't support Nintendo's stupid 'artificial demand' plan of action. "Hmmm, you know what we should do instead of making enough of our console, probably allowing us to make more money?", "What?", "MAKE ONLY A FEW! Scalpers will find a way to get a ton of them, and then they will sell them for extra money that we will never see any of!"
I'm just going to be a scumbag and stick to emulating. It's free, I don't have to wake up at 6am to get one, and I don't have to spend $200 if I don't wake up at 6am.
Yeah I might just go to emulation at this point. Nintendo has seriously disappointed me.
Or you could be a law abiding citizen and just buy the ones you want from the Wii or Wii U Virtual Consoles like I did.
Where did you get the 0:15 display case?
First, best UA-camr
Can I ask how you got your footage? I got one recently and I wanted to make some videos.
Can't you put the console on the floor, how long is the wire from the console to the tv?
I have a Wii classic controller and the SNES Classic Edition. The classic controller does work and the home button works. It would have been nice if Nintendo put a home button the SNES controller. Also, Nintendo has said they're going to bring the NES Classic back some time next year.
Hey Jwittz, I know this video is a bit old, so I don't except you to respond, but where'd you get the amiibo display case in the background at 8:42?
I never owned either the NES or SNES, so I was thrilled to pick up an SNES classic (didn't get lucky enough to get an NES classic). However, I did own an N64 and mine is still in working condition. I managed to pick up every game I've ever wanted for the system, so I don't see myself buying a N64 classic if they make one (unless they include unreleased games, like they did for the SNES classic).
Like to imagine in about 15 years from now middle aged jwittz with his wife and kid or kids playing snes classic in the living room
You can use the Wii classic controller’s home button in place of the reset
