Excellent post, Dave. Really informative as always. There are a few resources around, mainly written explanations with static pictures, but they can be difficult to follow. There really is no substitute for a detailed demonstration by an expert. Thanks, and keep up the amazing work!
There is a young UA-camr who is mostly into Tarantulas. After watching you work for some time, I can barely tolerate watching him, and he used to be my favorite. But now all I can concentrate on are the things he does that you’ve warned against- especially wet substrate. He never mentions the humidity that each T needs based on their home environment. The abdomens on his Ts are HUGE! Coming from this novice, they look grossly over fed. He had a T die recently and to me, her abdomen looked as if it had burst! Forgive me if I was out of line, but I’ve recommended he take a wander to your channel for habitat ideas when he would ask his audience a question that I was sure you could answer. I do hope he reaches out to you, or at least watches you. He had an entire sac of nymphs die out, a few at a time. The way he houses them makes me cringe. I don’t know his name, it isn’t listed and he doesn’t mention it. The only hint I can give you about who to watch for comments from, is that he has two channels that are one after the other alphabetically. I wish I could do something to encourage him to learn more from actual established T hobbyists.
I want to thank you, I used to be massively afraid of spiders. But because of you, I'm almost comfortable around them, no longer kill any, just re-home them outside. The happy chuckles of your camera woman showed me they aren't scary, just misunderstood, she was obviously not afraid. So, thank you for making my life so much better, you both are awesome!! 🕸🕷🕸🤗
I've got to say a big thank you for your channel Dave. Your constant mantra, "Be calm and love your spiders," helped me get over my fears of spiders. Just rehoused my C Versicolor and it ran down my arm. Two years ago I'd have thrown up and possibly passed out. Not now. After practicing calm and gentleness with my Ts I'm definitely growing as a keeper. Kudos!
That is amazing that spider is still sleeping. 😂😂😂😂 Very informative video and nice to see how its done. Thank you very much and have a great day, cheers!!
Love from sweden! Don't own a spider, never had. But its somthing about your Chanel thats makes everything interesting and love your videos! Keep doing what you do dave! U the best
I think this was the first useful guide to spider sexing on juhutuub. 🙄 With you, spider keeping will become even more popular than cat keeping. 😏 Always a pleasure to watch you. 👍🥰
I have always been so so scared of any type of spider... but I love watching you and your little guys and gals! Don't know if I'd ever get one..still super interesting and cool!
Most spiders are really really harmless. I keep tarantulas and still wouldn't want to have brown recluse spiders in my home (if living wild and not in an enclosure). A good amount of respect isn't wrong when dealing with potentially potent venom. Otherwise they just want to be left alone like you and me :P
Camera Lady, you rock! And Mr Dave, thank you for a lesson that actually made sense. Trying to sort out what's what from print and stills was useless for me . Your demonstrations were absolutely clear.
Thanks loads Dave and camera lady! You say you're old age your eyes are failing, yet your hands are steady as a rock! Always makes me envious watching your surgeon hand open an egg sack! Big fan of the Beasty Room, thanks for all the videos!
Wow, thank you for a very interesting video! Ive seen people manhandling the spider itself to check, and it seemed so intrusive and rough on the spider 😕
I love your videos due largely to wonderful narration and beautiful camera work. We've got to learn about the other important bits, like where's the bum and the eyes please one day. Thank you
Very interesting to see the difference between male and female. Well im off for my surgery in the morning so I might miss the next video but im sure I will catch up Love your videos guys 👍😊
Very very interesting Dave.. luckily camera lady is there to tell you what to do.. Us guys sometimes get a bit rambunctious and need to be corralled a bit eh? You guys are terrific..at 70 I still over to learn new things and over the last year you have taught me so much about spiders.. Knowledge is the greatest adventure.. thank you Dave and camera lady.. I wish I knew her name it just doesn't feel right to call her camera lady.. But thanks, carry on and be safe!
Great video ,im impressed that spider grow new lungs too very educational .Once again great camera work camera lady 😀 and good job on the microscope Imogen Dave 👍x
That's probably the BEST sexing tutorial I've ever seen. I have always been able to sex with molts but it's getting tougher with my age and eyesight. I had no idea I could buy a digital microscope ! That's a game changer.thanks Dave, I really appreciate your videos.
I'm not into keeping spiders, but your videos have become very enjoyable. I very much appreciate the scientific approach you take in your presentation. Keep up the good work!
As I have said many times before,... spiders are not my favourite... but under Dave's gentle guidance, I have never been more fascinated by a spiders undercarriage in my life!!!!
Thanks guys for taking the "proper time" to talk about and show what to do, what to look for, and giving helpful tips. This episode felt like a real teaching video. Great work!
You and the Lady did an outstanding job with the microfilming while having to teach us about this fascinating topic. I am very pleased to have come by your fantastic channel.
New sub here…that was fascinating, Dave!! I always wondered, anatomy-wise, beyond abdomen shape or leg length, what distinguished females from males in their anatomy, and this was an incredible close-up of that!! Spiders have always scared the be-Jesus out of me, but I am really trying to learn more about them so they don’t seem so fearsome to me. You are a wonderful teacher. Much respect.
That's a very cool microscope Dave and those spiders 🕷 molt are beautiful also those spiders were beautiful and yet still beautiful even if there not that molt anymore.
So interesting Dave and lovely Mrs C.L. So please correct me if I have misunderstood, you have to check every molt as they grow for sexing them? Every single molt? That's a whole lot of work there in it self, Esp. as the males of some species are not always available and rare🤔. So much to think about and understand......thank you, again, so very interesting.😘💐🌻
Finally someone, who was able to tell me how I sex my spiders, without leaving questions behind, great as always. One question is there though, the fact that also the female parts of Tarantulas are different among the species, makes me wonder if the emboli and the spermithicae work like lock and key, one more security step to prevent different species from pairing maybe?
thats why i call you the PROFF, the educational videos that you both make are second to none. amazing time that you both spend are most welcome buy the many across the world. amazing from you both, many thanks and take care guys. BRILLIANT.
AMAZING! THANK YOU! I have tried finding out that info on the internet and was unsuccessful. I've searched for hours, with no avail. Im a retired nurse and l love anatomy and microscopes. 💙 Dont ever stop what you do, you and your wife are truly amazing 💙💚💙💚
Something a friend showed me is get some lens cleaner and spritz the molt a couple times and let it set in a bowl min or 2 later the molt is soft so u can move it all about seems to work quite well
Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for doing this kind of video. The physiology of spiders is fascinating. Like most people you can read a book to gather information on the spiders but, nothing beats watching someone explain exactly what to look for and how to go about finding it. Along with the preparation involved to be able to get to where you need to be looking in the first place. Your calm approach and layman’s term for the ignorant non spider keeping person like me. Along with the correct named parts of the different spiders, for those who keep spiders and wish to start a breading program is refreshing to watch and learn from. Many thanks to you both again.
Great tutorial video Dave. Though feel I should point out that both male and females have epigastric furrows - the opening slit. The tell tale flap on the inside of the females is the uterus externus. 😉
Absolutely fantastic video Dave, and extremely useful very enjoyable and informative for novice and experienced keepers alike 👍, super job again Dave by yourself and camera 📷 lady.
I agree wholeheartedly! I was so impressed with how incredibly noninvasive the proceedure was! You don't even need to have the animal on the same realm of existence so long as it shed here at some point, let alone poke it and prod it while it has no clue what you are doing or why. SO cool! And you're absolutely 100% correct about camera lady. Her camera work is top notch! I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if she someday got picked up by a nature documentary.
Where do I get books on learning about this ? Your terminology is to a tee and want to know more about tarantulas also big fan of yours from the US located in Milford Ohio ! Also shout out to the camera lady!
I love that I learn so much from each and every video you post!! I appreciate you taking the time and explaining everything in detail.. I can’t get enough of your show!! Thank you for the amazing work you do with these beautiful creatures 😊
Very interesting to see the difference between female and male spiders 🕷👍. I have never seen that before David but the difference is quite obvious when you can spot it so big thank yous to you and our Sweet Camera Lady for letting us see that! It's always nice to learn some new things even if I have no plan to breed tarantulas! Big warm hugs to you both from Trollet 🐱🐾❤🤗 and me 👱♀️.
Wow! Another great educational video! That was very informative and I learned a lot from that so thank you! Your videos really are incredibly helpful and so easy to understand. Amazing! Was good to hear camera lady too, no need to be shy at all 🥰 🖤🕷️

@13:21 I have found that if it looks as you would say a bit of a mess, lightly pouring the water/soap mixture over the specimen spreads it open itself somewhat and makes it less sticky like especially when it is thinner and harder to maneuver just a thought.. Great Video as always 🤗🤗🕷🕷🕸🕸🕷🕷
Man, I really wish it was this easy on the animal to sex them. The spider never even has a clue that you know, let alone have be poked and proded. I'm just really impressed that this is so noninvasive! Super cool, thank you so much for sharing! ♡♡
Finally catching up on your videos 😁. This is so much easier nowadays. When I first started...had to have an actual microscope for accurate identification... especially of juvies or slings. Great stuff again Dave and thank you 😁👍

Molt sexing is more accurate as well. It's always 100%, if you know what you're doing and have a microscope that's good enough.
Outstanding, thank you Dave and Camera lady
Trapezoid, female. Narrow tower and a dot, male, pretty easy?
Probably the most informative and clear video I have seen regarding molt sexing.
This really helped, so thank you Dave and camera lady!
