Blackmagic design released a new desktop based Hyperdeck Shuttle HD for video playback and recording. In this video I'll recap some of the important points and things to think about if you're going to buy.

I purchased this as a better means to a teleprompter for my personal studio. I don’t need the recording feature because of my Atem pro ISO. I thought I might also use it as a hyper deck when a prompter is not needed to streamline the production process. I did pick it up on BH for a good deal. It was 50%off so I thought it was a score.
We don't know for sure, but it's likely that you can update your .rtf Teleprompter software over FTP like you can with video files
This is good to know! I'm sure you'll be one of the first ones to be playing with that Doug! I will say though does it make sense to be using FTP if it's geared toward the "lower end" ATEM Mini crowd?
@@zephanmoses FTP wouldn't be the preferred way; just an alternate way to easily update the files remotely. We'll find out once we get our hands on one.
I would have bought it if for sports if it supported instant replay out of the box.
Unfortunately the hyperdecks don't do that. It would be a nice feature though!
i wish it was a cheap controller for rackmount hyperdecks :)
I never used it myself yet but I think PlayoutBee suits my needs.
Reading through the manual, it has this note "Press the ‘play’ button to start playback. During playback, the play button will illuminate and the ‘disk’ or ‘SD’ media slot indicator will illuminate green."
So from the sounds of it, yes you can play files from the USB drive.
Yea as I dug deeper into the Blackmagic page it looks like there is playback either from the SSD or from SD Cards.

I think I know who that other UA-camr is! I really respect his work and thoughts too. But I’m pulling from my experience of doing probably 100 livestreams in the last year alone. I just don’t see the value on this product. Figured I’d be honest!
Can you play commercials from SSD or the SD CARD? That’s why we bought it but can’t seem to find the videos on the SD card.
You can play any video so long as you encode the video file properly. You may want to take a look at my hyperdeck tutorial video for that. The trick is making sure all files on the sd card are the same codec, format, framerate, etc. I usually use apple pro res LT
I would like it to come with another Resolve license! But perhaps this is another reason to see it in person and ask questions about it at NAB...

Live replay is the only thing that interests me about this.
Yep and without one in hand I'm afraid I can't say how that will operate but it doesn't seem like it's the sort of instant reply we'd be wanting.
Concerning the teleprompter workflow you explain, I wonder if the Hyperdeck Shuttle HD also supports FTP, like a lot of other BMD devices. If that is the case, then the workflow should be very easy. Update your RTF text file on any device you like and push the updated RTF file over through FTP.
It does support FTP but for the consumer market this is heading to I don’t think it will be simple enough. I use a software on the Mac App Store called “Teleprompter” and it’s so simple to click into and edit the file instantly and keep playing it right in the middle of filming.
Interesting product... but for now, I play videos using the YoloBox Pro or Ecamm. The recording capability looks great!

TC 2:12: That's the point. If it does not (!) playback all formats.... it is useless.... Sorry to say that.
I just need a way to easily play recorded video and add lower thirds. Something the ATEM pro just sucks at. But $500 to play videos? There are cheaper work arounds.

Yes great video.I am having a problem connecting the Hyperdeck Shuttle to my Atem Extreme. It says "Failed Connection" The Atem IP is DHCR and the IP for the Hyperdeck is Static. Would that make a difference or it is something else. Please Help !
Use a static IP for both
love your honesty Zephan --------- some of these bm products just dont cut it and other guys try to sell a product not good for our industry... I still await a product from this company that dont require another 5 other products to get it to work....... Instant replay is part of sports black magic should know that, --- we still at 20 stills in the media pool --- why... not wanting to rant on ur post but great stuff and yes your "OPINION MATTERS" -- CMON BLACK MAGIC GIVE US THE NEW ATEM WITH FEAUTURES WE ASK FOR...

Its small and has multi functions and a player recorder im in ...whats the price of a player / recorder telly prompter ? maybe the cost of a smart phone, but the other thing is the software ....im in the ecosystem.

I get that. But I use an app called teleprompter where I can see the text in real time on my computer and just click in and edit it live. I wouldn’t even have to push a new file via ftp. Also expecting people using a consumer level switcher (who this is definitely geared toward) to use FTP is not as simple as it seems. I feel like they could’ve made it a lot more user friendly at $500.
If not this, what would you recommend for instant replay to pair with an atem mini instead?

I agree! I'm right there with you since that's what most of my files I receive from clients are.
No sdi, no real jump in features or innovation and too expensive for what it is. For 199$/€ it would be a thing. A version without recording but a small oled panel and for 99€\$ as a ip based hyperdeck Controller would also be a thing. But this as it is: i see no point 🙈🤷🏻♂️
