That front end looks killer. It’ll be interesting to see how it holds up. And never mind the people telling you to get a haircut, it gives a wildman Sasquatch look.
for the vehicle speed sensor: possible to have a disk machined that could go between the rear driveline and the output flange of the transfer case, then mount a speed sensor to the back of the transfer case. have the disk machined with "teeth" on the outer edge that the sensor could pick up on and give you a vehicle speed sensor signal.
Happy to see someone hates silver vehicles as much as me. A bad green paint job is so much better than a silver truck. Leave the silver/stainless steel look for the kitchen appliances! Great truck! Good job!
This seems like a great project to finish up on your UA-cam channel to bump that subscriber count 👍 (although I do realize you have a crazy schedule, and am impressed that you even have time to do these updates 😳) Thanks for all the hardwork and entertainment you've provided all these years Fred 👍I think I'm still hoarding all those old magazines somewhere 🤔 the kind with 4x4's I mean...
Good to hear you are back. Yes! The RCLT HD so nice, that 11K cost though. Yikes! I am still looking into it though, it's probably one of the best kits out there including the MarRac. For your speed sensor issue contact Currie they have a weld on housing end that they use on their Currie Axle housing for Toyota's that support the Toyota Speed sensors. I had to get rid of the Toyota 8" also, I ended up with Currie F9 w/ 3 link LT. The Fab shop that worked on my rig kept my FJC for 3 eff'n years, I just got it back not to long ago. "Shaffers offroad" from Alameda, Ca do not go there if anyone is thinking of upgrades from CA bay area.
Hands down one of the best 4Runner builds out there ... simple and to the point .. now I can’t decide if I should rework my ifs or go axle swap on my sequoia..does anyone have some wheeling footage of this rig somewhere..
It would be cool to see updates of this rig as you slowly complete the loose ends on this (sheet metal work, tennis ball in rear etc). I would also love seeing a snow wheeling DED episode with this!
$50/yr is a all price to pay to watch you and Roadkill anytime. Keep up the good work, love the show. I do think it is about time for a spin off show. Wheeling USA, where you take Tubesock and hit each state maybe.
Looking forward to the next episode of DED! Glad to have these UA-cam videos now that the DED Extras seem to have been phased out. Would be awesome to have this kit available for the older pickups and runners.
You still have the front speed sensors. If you could somehow use them for both the front and rear I think that would solve your computer issues. It's a magnetic sensor so not as easy as a simple hall effect sensor like a jeep. I thought about SAS'ing my 2nd gen Tundra, but the speed sensors are a hurdle I havent figured out a solution to yet. It wont even shift into 4wd if they arent working.
Please, please, please bring this Runner and Clampy to Texas for next year's Texas Toyota Jamboree!!!!! Would be awesome content for DED and your UA-cam channel.
Thank you so much for doing this build! You’ve inspired me to do the same thing. I have a question though. I’m buying a V8 tomorrow and it’s AWD. Once you do the crawl box….Do you have selectable 2WD/4WD?
You need to bring your show to You Tube so everyone can watch for free as well as you get free creativity for your show! You guys have what folks want to see here on The Tube!!!!
For the speed sensor, i think you're best bet is to tie in the rear speed sensors with the front and that'll trick it. The computer is constantly monitoring all 4 corners for ABS, VSC, ATRAC.
Cool build, cut out a reluctor wheel the same tooth count as OE and either make a driveline spacer or weld it on the output yolk and hang the factory speed sensor off a bracket to get the rear driveline speed. Think like people have to do with the 8.8/Sterling stuff.
Can you do something to my 2nd gen,LOL. Make it like the ultimate daily, upgrading everything to the max just before you have to sacrifice on comfort. I love how you over engineer/overkill on some things so you know it just wont break on you. Just like how you did with clampy. I wish there was parts for the 2nd gen 4runners to strengthen the front IFS and not widen your track to keep it clean and sleeper like. Youre the shit Fred! Dave too! So talented. P.S. I know this is old but Happy ho ho and merry new year you guys! Have a good '2022
Fred have you guys noticed any issues with the 200 series rack? Im running RCV's, 5.29s and Arb airlockers with 37's on my 2nd gen crewmax tundra but i've noticed that the powersteering system is definatly lacking for larger tires once aired down on the trails.
On the show you said you were running mismatched gears front to back, are you planning on upgrading the front diff to something else? Did you guys notice it straining or doing anything funky? The reason I ask is I have a buddy that was running 4.30s in the back and either 4.38 or 4.10 gears in the front (cant remember now as it's been so long) of his thrasher of a Mazda and broke driveline parts like there was no tomorrow. It was surprising as I figured it would be close enough that it shouldn't matter but he was taking out driveline parts constantly. He beat on it but not hard enough that you would think that it was parts failing from abuse or stupidity.
I remember that series, they ended up replacing the front diff with a dynatrac or something, didn't they! I remember it was about the same time they started offering the dynatrac front diff for Chevy ifs.
Fred, just wanna say these make me smile. Your energy is great.
Holy crap, a 4Runner without a sunroof............. Thats a diamond in the rough
That front end looks killer. It’ll be interesting to see how it holds up. And never mind the people telling you to get a haircut, it gives a wildman Sasquatch look.
That’s it, can’t take it anymore, I’m caving in and subscribing
Really liked the extra tech of this format
I like the 4th gen runner's when built, cant wait to see more!

Wow. That is awesome. Looking forward to checking out those 2 episodes and hopefully more. Pond Scum sounds amazing. Thanks for Sharing.

Love to see you on YT, I’ve always wanted longer DED episodes, this is a great compromise! Keep the content coming 👍
loved todays dirt... can't wait for next week...

Those body lines really look great with the mah-hooosive fender cuts and tires. Nice build.

Stoked you got you're own channel
🤣 guess I have five years to catch up on
Watched both episodes last night, they were fantastic! :)
Fred, I been watching you on motor trend for a long time now. It was a treat to join your channel.👍🏾😁
Tennis ball axle caps ? Love it ! 👍😂
Hands down one of the best 4Runner builds out there ... simple and to the point .. now I can’t decide if I should rework my ifs or go axle swap on my sequoia..does anyone have some wheeling footage of this rig somewhere..
On motor trend on demand
Love this format for DED. More build and more wheeling!
good to see your subscribers are going up quickly
Fred to hell with corporate TV, commercials clouding the content. and def f motor trend. I'd rather watch you right here for almost free.
Super rad Fred. I love it.
These videos and rigs are badass. Without sponsors it’s hard to build something to this spec for the average guy.
Jonny Mac Style
It's got Green Balls!!
Go PA Fred!!
Blowing dirt all up inside!!
Go Fred
Custom Texture Paint!!

Or just get it for one month every December 25th for Christmas and binge watch it. $5/year…….
Man that’s a cool little goofy rig, thanks for the walk around!
Nice Sasquatch hat. Thing is legit, miles of clearance under that front diff. Stoked to see how she holds up.
Loved the episode on MTOD, Fred! The extra tech stuff and showcasing the build is great. All for the occasional 2-parter.
Great job Fred! Truck turned out so rad.
Wish I could still watch d.e.d I miss it
Looking forward to the next episode of DED! Glad to have these UA-cam videos now that the DED Extras seem to have been phased out. Would be awesome to have this kit available for the older pickups and runners.
cant wait to see it on the trail!
Cool rig. The speed sensor is usually in the transfer case. Only speed sensor in the rear ate for ABS. 👍😁
Love the tennis balls! If it works!👌
Amazing build.
That runner is bad ass
You still have the front speed sensors. If you could somehow use them for both the front and rear I think that would solve your computer issues. Can’t wait to see the trouble the two of you get into with pond scum 👍🏻👊🏻. Looks like such a fun rig
Thanks Fred!
great summary
The green paint on that thing is beau-hideous, lol, cool build 👍
Great episode and build! Love the tech info, how to videos would be awesome also
That’s pretty RAD
Freddie . Good build.
Love the 2 part format
Check with Diablo Sport with help on the speed sensor/check engine light problem.
Please, please, please bring this Runner and Clampy to Texas for next year's Texas Toyota Jamboree!!!!! Would be awesome content for DED and your UA-cam channel.
Fred put down the hole saw lol. This one's light enough haha. Pre 4 runner.
BTW I think Dave Chapelle gave you a thumbs down lol.
It's almost like I'm watching everyday extras again
A roof rack would be nice for storing the spare tire, freeing up the interior.
A roof rack...to store forties??? That suck getting the spare down and then throwing the flat back up there after lol
Love it ! Thanks for the info!
That expensive 9inch with some tennis 🎾 holding the axles in 🤣
Thank you so much for doing this build! You’ve inspired me to do the same thing. I have a question though. I’m buying a V8 tomorrow and it’s AWD. Once you do the crawl box….Do you have selectable 2WD/4WD?

The A-Team 4Runner.
I can remember a similar video with a younger Fred from back in 2005...
For the speed sensor, i think you're best bet is to tie in the rear speed sensors with the front and that'll trick it. The computer is constantly monitoring all 4 corners for ABS, VSC, ATRAC.
Have you seen someone actually do this with success?
Hey fred, i would use lexan to close off the fender well's, great videos keep em coming.
You know he is super involved in the build, when can just rattle off the top of his head all the specs of who did what, and where.
Hey you're getting good at smashing Toyota tail lights! The long term Landcruiser build that got flopped at Gorman.
Beautiful SUV
Love the more in depth ded episodes
The plastic cladding never stays on mine when I send it
Love it man!! who would do better to torcher an IFS than you an Dave 😁

I think the wheel speed sensors are magnetic

Lovin this
Man that is bad ass!!
I wonder if spider Trax makes a front diff to match the spider 9 and I also want to know if I can get it In any lug pattern at nearly any length
Beef up that rig . Nice I want one
Reminded me to watch DED.
Come out to the Coal Mine Cruiser Classic next summer...
Try pickup ring on yoke they make them for drag cars
Why you ditch the rear Toyota axle/differential?
On the show you said you were running mismatched gears front to back, are you planning on upgrading the front diff to something else? Did you guys notice it straining or doing anything funky? I like this build. Ditch those plastics and let the custom paint fly my guy! We are all sick of plastic and vinyl wraps 👍🏻
Nice 4runner I have a 95 would like to find a another one and make it a v8 mud bogger, truck puller, a sand racer and dragster.
I like to see something with nissan frontier and what you can do with it
I really like the truck, how much you recon it will cost to duplicate the build?
yes! more Toyotas!
Super dope
🤣 I was wondering why I’m looking frm the wheel well and seeing out the window
You going to put a roll cage in there ?
The IFS is cool, but it just seems like it would have been easier, cheaper, and stronger, to just do a solid axle swap.
Just register it in a free state and don’t worry about smog testing!
Whats the axle spine on the front diff?
I would like videos on the wilds
20k plus parts and labor!! What's holding it together you say. A couple tennis balls lol
I want to see this build so bad! But I can't, because I'm in good old convict infested Australia 😂 but seriously, is there a way I can watch this?
Wait, you were in Cashmere?
Love this thing! 7.5 or 8.0 front diff in it?
8" on all the "big body" trucks that replaced the mini trucks.
What color is that? I really like it.
Solid axle swap when?
That thing took tons of modifications to make it work. Wow
flashbacks of the big red ifs chevy that y'all tried to make wheelable
I remember that series, they ended up replacing the front diff with a dynatrac or something, didn't they! I remember it was about the same time they started offering the dynatrac front diff for Chevy ifs.
❤️👌❤️Nuff Said
