XU10 is great has the most emulators and games for the console generations the only downside to this handheld is that it is very offline there’s no blue tooth and wifi or updates but for $60-80 you can’t go wrong with this I have it no issues all works from 1980-2000
Great review, Dweeb! xu10 seems way more appealing optically than the r36s although spec wise comparable. One downside imo is the xy ab "xbox" layout of the buttons. Most other emulation devices use the yx ba "snes" layout. Here you have to press the "a" button when nintendo games actually want you press "b". only fixable by voiding the warranty...
Yeah I'll stick with Anbernic. This device isn't for me. I'm very much looking forward to the release of the RG35XX H. It basically solves my issue that I originally had with the 35XX and that I just don't like vertical handhelds.
Anbernic have been making good horizontal devices for years. RG350, RG350M, RG280M, RG351P, RG353M & RG405M to name the more popular ones. I don't need another 3.5" screen handheld but if I did I would probably get the RG353M over the new RG35XXH.
@@adamkane7513 I would get the 353M too but it's just a bit too expensive for me really. The 35XX H is basically just a slightly less powerful plastic version of the 353M.
Tech dweeb I've got a question, I have emulators that are disappearing out of my game collection, it doesn't give me the option to select it anymore like the PlayStation and the PSP has gone away! It started out with 38 now it's 36? Do you know how to get those back or will I have to do that stock option? Love you videos by the way
I have NINE different "famiclones" and six emulation handhelds from this year alone, the most expensive one being the RG35XX that got me started on buying them. I just really, really enjoy fondling these little devices and feeling which one has the best buttons, form factor, etc. They're like more expensive fidget cubes for gamers! I am curious about the latest GB300, which is a GC## series "famiclone" that can only play NES roms/rom hacks. It looks like somebody scanned the Gameboy Pocket and then 3D printed a bulky brick shell casing around it. And those shoulder buttons on it just look so bizarre... I have to touch it.
GB300 has the same chip and OS as SF2000 with 7 emulators, with PC-Engine instead of MAME. So not just NES, not to be confused with 500 in 1 handhelds alike. Still too new to see someone's first-hand experience though.
That d-pad tho does look like it's 500% higher than it should be, looks chonkier than the original PS1 d-pad. Especially at @5:55. that looks massive. For me, when a device has both an analog stick and a d-pad, I want something more flat and precise like the d-pad on the original phat Nintendo DS or the d-pad on the credit-card-thin K10 handheld. To have a thick and tall d-pad that tries to emulate analog input when a literal analog stick exists millimetres away is useless to me.
Happy New Year TD🥳 Nice review as always. But I'll pass on this one. I still struggle to find THE perfect vertical handheld. The RG353V is pretty close to what I am looking for BUT Anbernics community politics are holding me back to get it. What do you suggest? Maybe wait for 2024?
Have a great new year's eve TD, looking forward to more content from you in 2024! And hopefully more coupons from you when I have unspent disposable funds again
Just got mine today. It won’t power on, not gonna lie, it sucks. This just happened last week when I bought a Bluetooth controller and the dpad just didn’t respond when pushing right. It just wasn’t worth dealing with sending it back so I said screw it and I’ll just keep it as an extra controller for multiplayer games that use analogue. Now I have this brick of a handheld that I bought from temu that was shipped to me from over seas. Guess I’ll just use this as a door stop and never buy a budget overseas gaming device again. I’m not a wealthy person, that’s why I bought budget devices, as they say you get what you pay for. Don’t buy it folks! It’s not worth the risk! I should have saved and put this toward the Retroid Pocket 2S.
Definitely go for the 2s if you want high end performance and don't mind that it's not as pocket friendly. Go for the r36s if you want to prioritize a customizable system with community firmware, go for the xu10 if you want to prioritize quality build and controls. No wrong answer!
The ONE thing I always want to know about these devices (ok actually 2 things) are: If you can play Video/Movies (Kodi?) and can you run a full Linux OS?
1. Depends on the OS (on this one, no, not until we get a proper build of a different OS like ArkOS). 2. Nope, you're stuck with the firmwares that are developed, and they are not full linux desktop OS's.
Easy to do to the Amber thingy? 🤣 I had no clue what he was talking about. I just am a casual non tech guy who just wants a nice retro handheld. But I like Dreamcast so won't change anything
I find that I can't play Nintendo DS, Pokemon Platinum on this given the dual screen needs and cursor required. This system doesn't work here with that game. Otherwise, I really do like this device.
Nice video but I had some doubts, can you change the core of emulators on the standard system that comes on XU10? and if you install the Amberelec can you change the cores too? Does the Samsung Evo 256GB SD card works on the XU10 device?
Hey TechDweeb, I have changed the overclock settings before seeing your video... i am stupid.. searched for a way out of the reboot loop. can you tell me how to refresh the sd card with the correct image? the links for the image on coar doesnt work :( Thank you!
Can you delete or replace the startup movie, or is it ROM? If it isn't ROM, but necessary to boot for whatever scripting reason, could a file with the same filename be put in place of it?
You can easily remove it by doing the Amberelec mod that I showed. The video should be replaceable, not easily but possible in theory. The whole system is on the SD card, no ROM on the device.
Yes, but it's a bit janky right now. It uses the RG351v build, but you need to do a few fixes. I think eventually they'll release an Ark build specifically for this device.
