Every time I hear this choral piece it sends shivers up my spine with the sublime music and words. One of my favourite Xmas pieces, sung superbly by VOCES8, thank you.
I don't think people understand what a bless is to have a group of people who provide such level and clear sound, just by 1 click. Much love to you all. Wish one day I have the chance be in one of your concerts.
I used to have my favorite rock bands. Now that they have all died off, and I gained more of an education and appreciation of music, I now turn to my go-to "band," voces8. It takes a lot of work, talent, and dedication to be this consistently high-quality...and soooo enjoyable. I have been through every possible genre from my childhood (1950's), classical, jazz, folk, rock, Grateful Dead, "world" music, big-bands & standards, country, blues, Bulgarian choirs, Frank Zappa, and anything else I had an eclectic taste for...and these days I'm lovin' me some choral, and the top of the heap, imo, is voces8, so many thanks. Blake, get a haircut.
NO!!!! BLAKE, DO NOT GET A HAIRCUT !!!! You are one of the most manly, masculine, competent, and talented a capella singers / musicians that God has put on this earth. Yes......even beautiful, for a man. SO KEEP THAT HAIR ! This rendition of Tavener's "The Lamb" is no less than reference standard, and worthy of diligent study for choirs wishing to sing this piece. Few people realize that singers of VOCES8 caliber are elitist athletes who must keep their physical bodies in shape, and who constantly work to increase their breathing capacity and breath control. This rendition of "The Lamb" is amazing, bringing tears to one's eyes. I have never before heard some of the phrases of this piece held for so long a time, with such precision of tone and shaping of sound from crescendo to diminuendo..........with complete control.
At 75 I find that I can slide from one musical form to another just as easily as I can go from one type of food to another. Tonight I started with Mississippi Fred McDowel and wound up here.
Thank you Voces8, for your magnificent performance of this piece with its complicated harmonic stucture - your sense of tuning, diction and interpretation, as ever, is beyond compare - such a joy to hear. Happy New Year.
I sang in a girl’s choir in high school and I thought we were somewhat good, but not anywhere near what VOCES8 is capable of. I revere this incredible group of the finest singers I ever heard. 🎶
this is my favourite choir song and you guys sang it beautifully yay :) I’m listening to this at 6am before the sun rises what a lovely way to start a day
We sung this piece back in around 2004 in the "Elizabethan Singers" in Zurich. We had some problems with the intonation in the inversion (mirror image), though. Beautifully sung here! :)
It’s amazing to hear all these years later. Also, I never actually ‘heard’ it as we were performing it, so it’s amazing to hear what it actually sounds like to the listening ear! Except I’m sure our attempt was vastly inferior to this beauty 🎶
Absolutely wonderful! Our amateur choir tried out this piece during rehearsal a couple of years ago, and the close discordance was well beyond our ability! Amazingly well done!!!
I knew this piece as the soundtrack to the opening scene of "The Great Beauty" but I had no idea of its source. Thank you for this hauntingly sublime performance of the work.
alle Tugenden, besonderen Fähigkeiten, die dieses Ensemble auszeichnen, kommen hier in hoher Vollendung zur Erscheinung Das außerordentlich hohe Niveau ist immer das gleiche. Kann man nur bewundern...
Thank you all for your beautiful voices. I saw Molly's dad, Timothy, years ago in the late 90s playing the organ for the Canterbury Cathedral Choir. I was a member of Atlanta, GA Cathedral off St Phillip and they all visited us. My grandmother and my father traveled from out of state to visit especially for the concert. Voces8 is indeed a perfect harmony of songs that has healed me through the deaths and separations of people who I will love in my life. I cannot thank you all enough. Blessings!
The structure reminds me of Funeral Ikos, where you have unison, then dissonance, then these meltingly beautiful chords. I have a hard time getting into Tavener's longer works, but this is unreal
The dissonances, that then resolve into consonances, are meant to convey the wonder, the awe and the mystery of the Incarnation--that (as Christians believe) Jesus came down from heaven and was born as a human being just to be with us humans. God with us.
@@mh605 I know all that, I still think it sounds just too eerie and like some evil spirits singing from the beyond... I just don't like that kind of dissonance, not even from the otherwise beloved Voces8
I have to agree. The color of this piece is unsettling. Perhaps, given the title, that's the point. Still, not a pleasant piece, to my ears. Well sung, here, no doubt. Just sitting uncomfortably on my hearing.
Utter vocal and choral perfection. The shifts between the dissonance and unison are mind blowingly good!
Such rich dissonances by Tavener, with such gentle placidity by Voces8...❤ The perfect combination to rouse all your emotions😊
Absolutely beautiful. This piece often brings me to tears with its transcendent beauty.
I’m so happy Voces8 has performed this incredible piece! I hope we get it in their upcoming album.
So, so moving. I just want to keep listening to it over and over - both for your voices and for its sublime message.
Every time I hear this choral piece it sends shivers up my spine with the sublime music and words.

This is wonderful and beautiful and perfect! Thank you so much for singing this!❤
Utterly sublime.
Words, music and your sublime voices, just so very beautiful; tears are flowing........
Magnificent performance of this beautiful piece! Thank you!
To be able to blend and tune this piece the way you did…holy cow. So moving. So beautify. Just waves of peace washing over my soul!

Heart-piercingly beautiful. Thank you.
Che stranissima armonia! Voi sempre eccezionali!!! 👏👏👏🙏🖖
What a beautiful read! I love Tavener; those passing dissonances are simply delicious. Thank you so much!
Such a heavenly sound and so nice to see the new soprano taking her place.
@@jaapvanlille4791 Ailsa Campbell is still sub here. New soprano Eleonora Poignant should start these days.

Nice 👍
🙏🧡
The blind cannot see your beautiful dresses and suits. They only hear your frequencies.
These harmonies are so incredibly beautiful ❤❤
Absolutely amazing!!! @Voces8 is some of you leading the breath ins etc.? I couldn´t spot one of you doing a tiny bit of "conducting" here :O
I don't know if the song, Funeral Canticle, from Tavener, would also be within their vocal range?
As it turns out, He made me too. Even me.
But how well pleased He must be by this!
❤❤❤
🙏🕯️
...to bardzo trudna Kompozycja. Jednak Mistrzowie się tym delektują. A my skromnie dajemy się porwać. Dziękuję. ❤🙏
Reverential and sophisticated at the same time.
Who is new soporano?

This is wonderful music, awesome performed, but i feel infinetly sad hearing this piece.
While i do appreciate this one i like the previous variation VOCES8 did better ua-cam.com/video/qTcxAr1oYx8/v-deo.htmlsi=IIdAEm-iQTJb0sEJ
Oh no this....🥹🥺😭
aw, I don't like that one.... the eerie melody sounds like some frequency out of the Poltergeist movies Oo

listen to a boy and a girl rendition, then listen to this rendition again. your perception will change.
NOT HARDLY !!
Wirklich sehr schön und voller Spannung. Gratulation zu dieser tiefgehenden Interpretation!!!
"Bad" for what, or who? Ever listened to JS Bach, Steve?
