Here We Go Again - Grains

- Where does your dog get their taurine from? Taurine is vital for heart, brain and eye function along with many other body systems. Dr. Judy discusses how that taurine comes from feeding meat protein. It can also be chemically converted by the body from grains by dogs but not cats. However, Dr. Judy warns that if a pet owner feeds dry kibble that lists protein from peas and legumes rather than or more than meat we can expect taurine levels to be low in that food. Even though we can feed our dogs grains, Dr. Judy points out that dogs have zero requirements for grains in their diets. Dr. Judy also warns against using pet foods that are high in starches such as potatoes. Even some of the "gently cooked dog food" companies are resorting to this. In the long run, dogs will suffer from this kind of diet as well. Meat based diets are what we should be feeding our pets. (Recorded 8/09/2021)

The makes so much sense, you are so good. I don’t know what I’d do without you Dr. Becker and Dr. Robb. thanks for all you do.
Thank you for so much insight. 😍
I love all your videos Dr. Judy, esp all the delicious kitchen recipe videos!! I also love your guest appearance with Dr. Becker & Rodney last weekend!
Why can't you live in my town? Wonderful video, just found site and definitely subbed. Ty for your information
Also, my homemade food is cheaper than expensive kibble, my 4 year old dog has not only bulked up,,he's acting like a puppy again, now he NEVER gets tired.
💫 🙏 🐕
My dogs lean ground beef, carrots, eggs, roasted eggshells, cucumber, fish oil, beef liver, blueberry, And SOMETIMES a little quinoa and my dogs blood work and energy are much better
No problems, definitely the legumes, my dog would gag and vomit ALL kibble brands,
We tried ALL of them,
Based on one of your videos I started feeding my 5 month old Aussie Harvey’s. Right now she’s on Paradigm wondering if Canine health would be better, or worse based on the grains. Would love your thoughts. Thanks!
my nuggets are on Answers and raw Goat milk and fish stock
my Vet thinks i am killing my Dogs
he believes i should be on a "trusted " kibble with Grain .
In a former video Dr Judy said brown rice and sweet potato was OK. My dog has kidney issues (according to standard blood test results). So I added some brown rice and sweet potato to her latest batch of raw diet meat and eggs. Now I'm unsure about it. I sure do not want to feed my dog badly!!! Now what??? 😐
Dear Dr Judy. How much Quercetin my 10 lbs dog should take?? Do you recommend any specific brand ?
I have my dog on Orijen with some fresh veggies at the moment, but hoping to find good info on raw diets.
Hi Lemaire I work for Dr. Morgan. Here are a few things I can recommend - you can look into premades like Allprovide, smallbatch, primal, vital essentials while you learn to make your own raw. Dr. Morgan has a recipe book too Yin and Yang. Tons of recipes and a chapter that shows you how to balance the food. Dr. Harvey’s has base mixes you can purchase and all you need to do is add meat, oil and warm water. Hope this helps.
And sincope. I feed them the honest kitchen dry food.. but sometimes they don't want it.. can you recommend what kind of food can give to them ..i bought you book yin yan, but i don't know what to do..
Hi, i have 3 senior shihtzus with early kidney disease, heart disease, pancreatitis
Hi Dr Judy, my dog is on chicken, eggs and veggies. I add a cup of orijen to ensure balanced nutrition. I emailed champion pet food re taurine levels and they say it's
.22%. is this enough?
In dogs, taurine is considered one of the non-essential amino acids, so, according to the nutritional standards set out by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), there is no established requirement for the amount of taurine in dog food. Your dog is getting taurine from the chicken you feed. You are halfway to making your own dog food. Why not ditch the kibble and just make a balanced meal at home? You can add supplements as needed. drjudymorgan.com/blogs/recipes/how-to-make-homemade-puploaf?_pos=1&_sid=6b59b68c2&_ss=r
